Whatever happens tonight, i just wanted to say

that it’s been really fun chatting about the games with you all. the team has had its ups, its downs, its way downs, but we always love the braves no matter what. it was my first year on these game threads, but it defnitely wont be my last. The Braves’ future is bright, whether the future be tomorrow, saturday, or 2012.

With that said, we have our ace on the mound against the phillies bullpen and the astros have the red hot myers going against carpenter, who hasnt won at houston since 2005. let’s win this game and everything else will work out itself out.

Here’s what’s going to happen today:

1. Tim Hudson is going to be the ace that he is, we handle business and beat the phils.

2. Brett Myers shuts down the cards and the Astros win. He’s been pitching well lately and mentioned earlier how this is like game 7 of the World Series for him. Couldn’t be more pumped to hear that.

3.D’backs beat the Dodgers.

4. Pirates beat the brewers.

We then go on to sweep Arizona and see the sillies in the NLCS and remember how they thought these past couple days were funny as shit and proceed to kick their asses.

Diaz is 2-for-6 against Blanton while Heyward is 0-for-3.

Clearly Diaz is better for this spot.

I don’t know why, because I was fuming yesterday, but I shrugged it all off today, I just want them to play well, if this turns into yesterdays game… I’m gonna be destroyed

The debate that I want to hear tonight

would be why is Fredi using O’Ventbrel with a 6 run lead when we might have a game tomorrow.

Everyone in the bullpen needs to be ready to go multiple innings and Fredi needs to have the stones to pull Hudson if there is trouble early. Even Hudson can have a bad game or get unlucky. You only get one shot at this.

If there is a 6-run lead, then no, I don’t think you use the aces of the bullpen unless trouble develops. That’s a big enough lead that you can start to plan for the next game. 4-run lead, I’m fine with him being ultra-conservative.

Fredi has been good with the hook all season, for the most part. He definitely errors on the side of caution, which I’m fine with in a big game like this.

Although I have to say, even though it didn’t work out last year, I loved seeing Lowe want to be the hero in game 4 of the NLDS.

Of course, he's also enthusiastically used Scott Proctor in tie games

Which is part of why we’re even IN this damn mess.

It’s not about his 40 speed, he was definitely jogging at first. I agree with Bronn that he might be a little sore, but as I said above, there is no tomorrow. If that’s as fast as he goes then he shouldn’t be playing outfield, or at least not in the shift. Let Bourn’s speed be your safety net not Prado’s.

So who do you put in for the shift, smart guy??

He just said – Bourn

The obvious answer would be Constanza. But you don’t set it up like that. The point is that Bourn should have more ground to cover than Prado regardless of shift, and we saw exactly why.

That’s if you wanted to play pure defense, but I don’t recommend it. But like I said above, Bourn should have the responsibility of having more ground not Prado.

Howard crossed-up the defense. Prado was playing left-center.

Nah he earned his hit, but there should have at least been a play at the plate.

Bear in mind...

Pence had to run 270 feet and had a jump …Prado probably ran nearly 200. Pence is fast, Prado is not.

But that ball wasn’t too late. It was cut off a little after the run scored, so every foot matters, hence when I am talking about max effort and not max speed.

See if he had ran to the ball like he busted it up the line I think there is at least a close play.

Prado is no Jason Heyward in the field…or with the bat.

I believe it refers to the motion of the curveball as a clock. The 12 is on the top and the 6 is on the bottom, and the 12-6 curveball falls vertically while a standard curveball tends to have more horizontal motion and less vertical motion.

just that a curve ball generally breaks down, from 12 o’clock to 6 oclock, breaking balls break left to right or vice versa. thrown directly overhand the ball starts up and breaks str8 down, little movement to either side

I think the call to double steal with 2 on and 0 outs with the heart of the order coming up was the “bad” part of that play.

I generally assume they either have a green light or not, and it’s their own judgment.
