In the anals of history people are going to be talking about three things: the discovery of fire, invention of the submarine, and the Flint Michigan Mega Bowl
Yeah, but facing them with them having gone 0-9 is a recipe for a BRAVES DISASTER if I’ve ever seen one. Call me psychic, but that’s a Braves loss waiting to happen. We can’t pull that kind of shit off.
If MLB starts being like the NFL or NBA, where having a .500 record is “good enough” to get you to the postseason, I probably won’t be interested in watching it.
He’s said multiple times that he wants to preach aggressiveness and hasn’t adjusted that attitude the entire season despite the results it’s obviously generating?
Even if he hadn’t done so it would be his job to try to correct it… but it’s worse than that, because he’s still in love with it.
Nah, dunno if I even know what commercial you are talking about. I absolutely loved Oxford Comma and a song or two from their first album, but I just started listening to the second album and the 1st top to bottom, and they are just incredible. They have like 15 incredibly high quality songs in two albums.
The pitch that Gomes hit was a good pitch. The pitch that Desmond hit on the first pitch of the game looked pretty solid too. I think he’s not getting as generous a strikezone as he’d like.
The worst pitch he’s made so far was the line-drive that Wilson just caught.
I liked that play where he ran seemingly two miles to get to a ball that was otherwise going up the middle. That was awesome. So were the player reactions.
I don’t know if Bourn is afflicted by the same lack of pitch recognition which has been a problem for Gonzalez, Prado, McCann, and occasionally Freeman this season.
I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS…. I JUST LOVE THIS….
Definitely last among play-off teams, and with weakened pitching it seems reasonable to be concerned about a generally punch-less offense. I wouldn’t call it the worse ever, but with the talent on this club we are really underachieving, not to mention how many missed opportunities we’ve had.
Eh, apparently I don’t think of the reply system as as much of a linear thing as others do. Just a comment on the topic, not necessarily targeted at you.
you cannot expect the Cubs and Astros to clinch the WC for you. YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE TO IMPACT THIS YOURSELF. AND THAT MEANS SCORING WHEN THE BASES ARE LOADED WITH NO OUT. Sorry for the allcaps, but I don’t think they could hear me all the way from Minnesota without them.
I don’t quit watching a game just because we fail to score in the second inning. I’ll turn the game off if we get down by 4 runs and can’t hit shit, maybe.
I am thinking about getting a player signed ball off of Ebay for my birthday. I don’t want anything that would be crazy priced, but I don’t want Greg Norton either. Any suggestions?
because there’s a ton of fake stuff there. I just checked some of the sellers that I’ve saved and it doesn’t look like any of them are selling at the moment. Just make sure you read the feedbacks before you bid.
I bet the Joe Morgan part reads something like this: “What you want to do when you’re the batter, is to not get three strikes before the pitcher gets three strikes on you. You see, if you get three strikes you’re out. If you hit the ball before you get three strikes, you might not be out. If you might not be out, that’s better than being out. In baseball, you want to not make outs. You see, if you make three outs in an inning, the inning is over. If the inning is over, you can’t score anymore runs. And the team that scores more runs wins the game. You want to score more runs than the other team, so you can be the team that wins the game.”
It’s the split that matters though, because that’s what we got him for.
And his .302/.343/.357/.700 for the year vs LHP I’ll take in a second over other options.
I didn’t say he was destroying him… I just think it’s ridiculous to say he’s “not cutting it” when there’s little or no statistical evidence we have a better option.
Closer to his career lefty numbers than his overall year is though, so SSS corresponds to data gathered in a large sample size, giving it some legitimacy.
Just hate the childishness of all the people shouting "THAT'S IT, GAME OVER, I'M LEAVING, WE SUCK."
And then hanging around and not leaving. It’s like a 5 year old shouting that he’s going to hold his breath until he dies, and THEN you’ll all be sorry!
I don’t deal with 5 year olds any more than I have to.
If I’m Fredi, I’m just telling Chipper, “Look, it’s really good for the team right now, and I like the way you’re hitting there. I think it improves the line-up,” and i don’t think Chipper would argue too much about whether he’s sufficiently helping the team.
“When I saw that broken bat hit and the dribbler, I knew my fat ass needed to Harley it’s way out and do some cap tippin’ and pitcher switchin’. 86 pitches is too many for a starter when you have a bullpen you can abuse instead.”
With the way we’re playing, I’m assuming the Phils would want to play us over the Cards (2nd round). I think we have a better team than the cards, we’re just in a huge slump.
I don’t think they’re thinking about it that way at all. I think they want to rest Hamels… not sure they care that much who they play in the NLCS (if they get there).
is this crappy sucking and whatever so called “playoff team” fault… when a team in the middle of pennant race can´t manufacture a single run… that team doesn’t deserve to win…..
Because we are playing terrible. I need to vent on a terrible team. I, personally, do not agree that they will compete in the next three years. But I am a casual fan.
I think Ross is onto something with the bunts. If the entire team just went up to the plate and bunted for a base hit, it would probably result in more runs than whatever it is they’re trying to do now.
Last year it seemed that somebody would come to the plate with fire in his bat and he would not be denied. You could watch Ross or Heyward come up and you knew a double was coming to knock in a couple of runs. Prado and Infante would come up and you could just tell that they were going to spank it into the outfield. It was like an Angels in the Outfield effect, but it is completely gone now. I dunno if that was just succeeding more or some sort of intensity that translated into results, but whatever it is it is gone in 2011.
Yea, but there was a feeling that they were following a script, and in a lot of ways it was a beneficial one for the Braves. That is “even-keeled” in its own way, but there was still fire and intensity, that is absolutely gone this year. I think Fredi’s managing style has a whole lot to do with it.
I absolutely am. But I think the intensity difference is very much a factor. This team seems sedated more often than not, that was not really a problem in 2010, and now that combined with approach have been a couple of our worst problems.
Fredi is absolutely pathological about this sort of thing. I think he truly, honestly believes that the good relievers can only be used when the Braves aren’t trailing.
When there are men on that sac flies/weak grounders/etc. will get in, you all swing at the first pitch because lolBraves. But now when you need to score 3 runs with 3 outs, you stare at crap all day?
Another positive, the young pitchers have pitched well for us down the stretch. Too bad this lineup is so limited in the ways it can score runs. Again, I blame Larry Parrish.
Phils have had a massive losing streak and will come into ATL trying to build momentum for the playoffs. This means we’ll see good pitching. We can’t even hit little league pitching right now. Such a good season to come down to a 1 game lead with 3 to play. It’s going to take us winning 2 games to avoid the 1 game playoff, and I really would like to sit Huddy on Wednesday so he could go Saturday.
Question: What do you get when there are 2 Braves on base with no one out?
Answer: Heartbreak
Well 1 game lead with 3 vs Phils while the redbirds play the horrible Astros at a hitters park. Recipe for success for one of the best offenses in the Cards
I imagine that most of the fan base is as tight as we are, but the fans in the ATL need to step up the next 3 nights. The team needs…SOMETHING…to light a fire under them. Being at home needing to beat the Phils SHOULD bring out the best in everybody. Guess we’ll see. What a terrible sports weekend…
Our freefall started when for the first time this season, we got swept by the Phillies. Maybe, just a wishful MAYBE, we can return the favor and sweep the Phillies to right the ship in time. Well, I’m only hopeful but not optimistic with the odds.
Just Win
that is all.

And I’m happy to see Ross getting the start.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
Batting Prado 2nd is so fucking stupid. If we lose again, that's probably why.
He delivers lower in the order. What about this does Fredi not understand?
Like it matters…. Fredi has no clue what to do with guys on base, anyway.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 25, 2011
At least he remembers Ross is alive.

Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 25, 2011
true
but MacCann wasn’t going to play all the rest of the games. giving him off today makes more sense than against the phillies.

UMDBHIK - September 25, 2011
Why would I be talking about any sport other than baseball? Only baseball matters.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
“any team that ever played in Boston” connotes more than just baseball.
And no, baseball isn’t the only sport that matters.
UMDBHIK - September 25, 2011
Lies.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
I pieced it together...
But I don’t think it was as obvious as you think it was :D
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
Didn’t the Bruins win the Stanley Cup?

Bizarros - September 25, 2011
Maybe, how did you find out about them?
GumpBrave - September 25, 2011
Honda commercial
Bizarros - September 25, 2011
Nah, dunno if I even know what commercial you are talking about. I absolutely loved Oxford Comma and a song or two from their first album, but I just started listening to the second album and the 1st top to bottom, and they are just incredible. They have like 15 incredibly high quality songs in two albums.
GumpBrave - September 25, 2011
i heard Holiday in the Commercial.. and loved that song… and i searched for them and that´s how i met them… they’re good….

Bronn - September 25, 2011
Even the pitch he got Ramos on was in the zone and up… He’s really not pitching very well. See if he settles down.
Fatvirus - September 25, 2011
I really don't think he's pitching poorly
The pitch that Gomes hit was a good pitch. The pitch that Desmond hit on the first pitch of the game looked pretty solid too. I think he’s not getting as generous a strikezone as he’d like.
The worst pitch he’s made so far was the line-drive that Wilson just caught.

Alright Jack....
With Jack Wilson playing defense like this he’s essentially Alex Gonzalez except I like him instead of really not liking him.
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
I liked that play where he ran seemingly two miles to get to a ball that was otherwise going up the middle. That was awesome. So were the player reactions.

Fatvirus - September 25, 2011
Well, besides the Sea Bass was hot thing.
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
I don't know about that.
Gonzalez was on fire for the week prior to getting injured.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
Yeah, definitely tongue in cheek guys.
Fatvirus - September 25, 2011
Now can a pitcher actually successfully sac bunt?
ATLtruth - September 25, 2011
so
does Wilson now have more walks then Gonzo in September? lol
Erihury - September 25, 2011
Minor has little to no chance to get this down
wpf3211 - September 25, 2011
FWIW, I believe Detwiler struggles in the stretch, so make him pay.
Ivan the Great - September 25, 2011
Now, close your eyes...
Bronn - September 25, 2011
That was actually the best kind of walk....
…the kind where you make the opposing pitcher throw 9+ pitches.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
the 4 pitch walk is also a very good thing
If only because it indicates that the pitcher is struggling.
Bronn - September 25, 2011
Except when it's the 2011 Braves...
The next batter will still go up and swing at the first pitch.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
Whoa Minor... were you going to swing?
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
I'd take a walk by Minor
Bronn - September 25, 2011

Erihury - September 25, 2011
BOURN DON’T SWING!
SuperHeyward - September 25, 2011
You mean, don't swing at something unless it is OBVIOUSLY a strike
Bronn - September 25, 2011
but for the Braves
an obvious strike can be anywhere in the dirt in the other batters box ANYWHERE
Erihury - September 25, 2011
Perhaps
I don’t know if Bourn is afflicted by the same lack of pitch recognition which has been a problem for Gonzalez, Prado, McCann, and occasionally Freeman this season.
Bronn - September 25, 2011
wow so yeah Bourn make him throw strikes.
ATLtruth - September 25, 2011
1) Bourn, don’t swing until you get two strikes
2) Braves, don’t pull a Braves
Ivan the Great - September 25, 2011
If it's right down the middle, I want Bourn to swing.
Bronn - September 25, 2011
Thing is, Detwiler’s mechanics clearly make it look like he can’t pitch in the stretch.
Ivan the Great - September 25, 2011
Don't feel obliged to swing now, Bourn.

Bronn - September 25, 2011

Ivan the Great - September 25, 2011

No sense of perspective
Overreaction-palooza. Ready to kick their computers the first time a page doesn’t load.
Bronn - September 25, 2011
Definitely last among play-off teams, and with weakened pitching it seems reasonable to be concerned about a generally punch-less offense. I wouldn’t call it the worse ever, but with the talent on this club we are really underachieving, not to mention how many missed opportunities we’ve had.
GumpBrave - September 25, 2011
I agree with everything you said...
But I don’t understand at all why it was said as a reply to what I said…
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
Eh, apparently I don’t think of the reply system as as much of a linear thing as others do. Just a comment on the topic, not necessarily targeted at you.
GumpBrave - September 25, 2011
Ah, okay! Makes sense then.
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
Holy lord, please grant our fans and hitters patience.

Patience is probably too much to ask for. I’d settle for a sac fly.
redwards95 - September 25, 2011
Playoff ready, you guys
Taylor Masters - September 25, 2011
it starts with
bourn not knowing whether to swing at the fastball or not with a 3-1 count
then prado tentatively swinging because he’s had bad luck and doesn’t want to hit into DP
then chipper…oh my.
walknbalk - September 25, 2011
2 pitches for Chipper

Nats score at least one this inning
nuftjedi - September 25, 2011
Braves
you cannot expect the Cubs and Astros to clinch the WC for you.
UMDBHIK - September 25, 2011
I dont’ think any of them expect the Cubs and the Astros to clinch for them.
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
at least the Nats failed with RISP also
TonyAlmeyda - September 25, 2011
I seriously doubt the Nats would’ve failed with bases loaded and 0 outs.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
29 other teams wouldn't have failed

"Refusing to leave the batter's box after strike 3"
by Larry Parrish
foreword by Terry Pendleton and Joe Morgan
UMDBHIK - September 25, 2011
I bet the Joe Morgan part reads something like this: “What you want to do when you’re the batter, is to not get three strikes before the pitcher gets three strikes on you. You see, if you get three strikes you’re out. If you hit the ball before you get three strikes, you might not be out. If you might not be out, that’s better than being out. In baseball, you want to not make outs. You see, if you make three outs in an inning, the inning is over. If the inning is over, you can’t score anymore runs. And the team that scores more runs wins the game. You want to score more runs than the other team, so you can be the team that wins the game.”
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
matt diaz isnt cutting it

SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
SSS
Bronn - September 25, 2011
I mean, of course I realize that...
But if you’re going to make a statement like “matt diaz isnt cutting it” you’re BASING THAT on the SSS… or you’re just being stupid.
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
SSS here=single sample size, it is absurd to assess value from from one scenario in a game like baseball
GumpBrave - September 25, 2011
You didn't really just try to tell someone with 10,000+ comments on TC what SSS stands for....
Did you?
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
No I didn’t. I was saying that this isn’t even small sample size, it is a single sample size. Meaning he is basing it on 1. It’s all up there.
GumpBrave - September 25, 2011
Ah, sorry
As long as we both think he’s being absurd… I’m fine :D
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
Someone else might just be looking at his season numbers
Where he’s had no power and is hitting for a poor average.
Bronn - September 25, 2011
It’s the split that matters though, because that’s what we got him for.
And his .302/.343/.357/.700 for the year vs LHP I’ll take in a second over other options.
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
I mean
It’s a .311 wOBA versus lefties. It’s not like he’s destroying them.
Bronn - September 25, 2011
I didn’t say he was destroying him… I just think it’s ridiculous to say he’s “not cutting it” when there’s little or no statistical evidence we have a better option.
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
Closer to his career lefty numbers than his overall year is though, so SSS corresponds to data gathered in a large sample size, giving it some legitimacy.
GumpBrave - September 25, 2011
what is his wOBA with the Braves?
ATLtruth - September 25, 2011
.319
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011

ATLtruth - September 25, 2011

Heyward wOBA 2011: .261
So significantly better.
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011

UMDBHIK - September 25, 2011
He's not inspiring a lot of faith, lately.

that was really good contact by Bourn. He probably isn’t going to hit a ball deep enough.
ATLtruth - September 25, 2011
Maybe tell The Braves there are two outs when there is one? Seem to always fly out with 2 outs with RISP.
cashew - September 25, 2011
im going to have a mental break down soon
unreel20 - September 25, 2011
Prado will GIDP here....
Yes, I know there are already 2 outs.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
ROTFL
nuftjedi - September 25, 2011
Prado is killing us.
ATLtruth - September 25, 2011
Muahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
I LOVE SEQUELS…..
Bizarros - September 25, 2011
Sequels are always inferior to the original, though. In the original, there were THREE runners on base and 0 outs. Do you see?
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
Gomes once again forgot how many outs there were, lol
Bronn - September 25, 2011
JESUS CHRIST I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH MORE WE CAN TAKE
wpf3211 - September 25, 2011
I love how the other team doesn't even need to know how many outs there are in the inning to keep us from scoring.
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
To be fair, neither did Prado several times earlier this year
Shocked - September 25, 2011
I’m getting really tired of this.
Ivan the Great - September 25, 2011
Cubs w/ 2nd and 3rd and 1 out.... maybe they can do something.
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
You mean teams can actually score in that situation?
biggjoe404 - September 25, 2011
Such a mistake moving Prado back to the 2 hole.
ATLtruth - September 25, 2011
Chipper basically begged out of it when he was there, and hitting pretty well, iirc
biggjoe404 - September 25, 2011
Chipper's an adult
If I’m Fredi, I’m just telling Chipper, “Look, it’s really good for the team right now, and I like the way you’re hitting there. I think it improves the line-up,” and i don’t think Chipper would argue too much about whether he’s sufficiently helping the team.
Bronn - September 25, 2011
I agree
biggjoe404 - September 25, 2011
Even Gomez thought we should have scored a run.
GumpBrave - September 25, 2011
Can we just keep cycling Ross-Wilson-Minor over and over please?
UMDBHIK - September 25, 2011
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
…………awwwwww :(
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
Can someone tell me how we became the worst team in the majors
crsosa - September 25, 2011
Early in the season, when we had Hudson/JJ/Hanson/Beachy having great outings every time on the hill, we only needed 3 runs to win a game.
Now we need a few more and we can’t score that much because our offensive approach is terrible.
Ivan the Great - September 25, 2011
Bingo
wpf3211 - September 25, 2011
The weird thing is...
At the beginning of the season you would have thought this was going to be a better-than-league-average offense.
And then they just started swinging at EVERYTHING
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
The offense was weirdly better with Uggla/Heyward having uber-slumps than it is now.
Ivan the Great - September 25, 2011
“Jason is drawing too many walks not hitting enough homeruns”
Larry Parrish
Erihury - September 25, 2011
Larry Parrish: The only walking I want to see is a home run trot.
GumpBrave - September 25, 2011

nod nod

YOU CAN DO THAT IN BASEBALL!?
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
I see Werth still has that Philly Broken Bat Bloop Single (TM)
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
How come we can’t get broken-bat hits with runners on? Or line drive homers?
Ivan the Great - September 25, 2011
Love the cheap hits
wpf3211 - September 25, 2011
a that bloop falls, bases loaded no out 0 runs
philadelphia will break out of their slump starting tomorrow…. Marmol will blow another late lead….yeah… life is beautiful…..
Bizarros - September 25, 2011

I’m not sure about that happening starting tomorrow Phils already scored 7 today.

ebraves - September 25, 2011
On the plus side, the Braves don’t technically have to win any more games to win the Wild Card as long as St. Louis loses another 3.
redwards95 - September 25, 2011
Cards aren’t losing another 3.
ATLtruth - September 25, 2011

wpf3211 - September 25, 2011

unreel20 - September 25, 2011

crimsonqueen9 - September 25, 2011
Question:
Who has been the better player this year: Martin Prado or Jason Heyward?
Scott Coleman - September 25, 2011
Heyward
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
thats a sad sad question
unreel20 - September 25, 2011
Trick Question, the correct answer is the baseball.
GumpBrave - September 25, 2011

Bizarros - September 25, 2011
Heyward
Ivan the Great - September 25, 2011
Heyward easily if you value getting on base and not making outs more.

biggjoe404 - September 25, 2011

unreel20 - September 25, 2011

EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
hes been great lately
unreel20 - September 25, 2011
Nah
Don’t go overboard, now.
Bronn - September 25, 2011
I’m not. Prado and Gonzalez have both been terrible offensively. Gonzalez is stellar defensively.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
Prado has been bad on offense
Gonzalez has been a blight. And Gonzalez has been very solid, not superb, on defense.
Bronn - September 25, 2011
Wasn’t he leading the majors in DRS at SS?
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
UZR has him at league average
I’m splitting the difference. I don’t think he’s been the best, but I think he’s been better than average.
Bronn - September 25, 2011
Isn’t UZR basically worthless for single season/in-season comparisons?
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
No more worthless than DRS
They use the same methodology.
Bronn - September 25, 2011
I’ve read otherwise, but I don’t really care enough to argue it. I firmly believe that Gonzalez is a top 5 defensive SS in the game.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
prado has been bad on defense aswell though
unreel20 - September 25, 2011
Gonzalez is about the same distance away from Prado as Prado is from Heyward for wOBA

Minor getting pulled because he allowed a broken-bat single and a dribbler that was hit too weakly for a double play is bullcrap.
Ivan the Great - September 25, 2011

Not to mention the Cardinals are losing. You would think they would have some extra motivation to win this game whether that score holds or not
wpf3211 - September 25, 2011

ATLtruth - September 25, 2011

AmgineRmEht - September 25, 2011
foul bunt
uhm, awesome.
Bronn - September 25, 2011
We have no chance
wpf3211 - September 25, 2011
What the hell?
Taylor Masters - September 25, 2011
How are you so stupid as to try to bunt a 100 mph fastball with two strikes?
Ivan the Great - September 25, 2011
101 again
Bronn - September 25, 2011
We're counting on Jack Wilson to hit a 2-run HR here....
…what’s that? Oh…. :(
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
Who IS this guy?!
nypeach83 - September 25, 2011
Well fuck....

Steal second, then third. I’m dead serious. This is f’ing ridiculous
biggjoe404 - September 25, 2011
Sounds like a plan….

JR Lacey - September 25, 2011
Domination. We are gonna have to sweep the Phillies to avoid a 1 game playoff
wpf3211 - September 25, 2011
might have to do it to reach a playoff
ATLtruth - September 25, 2011
more bunts!
I think Ross is onto something with the bunts. If the entire team just went up to the plate and bunted for a base hit, it would probably result in more runs than whatever it is they’re trying to do now.
redwards95 - September 25, 2011
Buh Bye Bravos....
im really sorry… but this team has killed any glimmer of Hope i had in them….. such a waste…
Bizarros - September 25, 2011
Henry Rodriguez usually has terrible location
But wow, he was pinpoint in that inning.
AmgineRmEht - September 25, 2011
I wonder if the team feels the same way we do
that a 1 run deficit is just insurmountable.
Classic17 - September 25, 2011
probably Fredi can’t relax them at all
ATLtruth - September 25, 2011
Don't worry. The Astros

JR Lacey - September 25, 2011
BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
Wait the Bills are beating the Pats?
wpf3211 - September 25, 2011

Ivan the Great - September 25, 2011

wpf3211 - September 25, 2011
Maybe they ARE for real.
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011

biggjoe404 - September 25, 2011
No kidding. It was 21-0 Pats.
wpf3211 - September 25, 2011
Really, another collapse
Fortune favors the brave(s) - September 25, 2011
Last year it seemed that somebody would come to the plate with fire in his bat and he would not be denied. You could watch Ross or Heyward come up and you knew a double was coming to knock in a couple of runs. Prado and Infante would come up and you could just tell that they were going to spank it into the outfield. It was like an Angels in the Outfield effect, but it is completely gone now. I dunno if that was just succeeding more or some sort of intensity that translated into results, but whatever it is it is gone in 2011.
GumpBrave - September 25, 2011
Or Melky or Nate would come in and GIDP. That happened too.
UMDBHIK - September 25, 2011
Am I the only one mad that Melky is having a hell of a year?
biggjoe404 - September 25, 2011
Yea, but there was a feeling that they were following a script, and in a lot of ways it was a beneficial one for the Braves. That is “even-keeled” in its own way, but there was still fire and intensity, that is absolutely gone this year. I think Fredi’s managing style has a whole lot to do with it.
GumpBrave - September 25, 2011
I think you’re over-romanticizing last year a bit.
UMDBHIK - September 25, 2011
I absolutely am. But I think the intensity difference is very much a factor. This team seems sedated more often than not, that was not really a problem in 2010, and now that combined with approach have been a couple of our worst problems.
GumpBrave - September 25, 2011
Are we seriously leaving Martinez out there at this point?
Bronn - September 25, 2011
So Fredi is really quick to yank Minor, because zomg baserunners
But he’s okay leaving C-Mart in there in a 1-0 game for his 3rd inning.
Ivan the Great - September 25, 2011
Jim saying Fredi handling it like he would if it were game 7 of the World Series. So there’s that.
UMDBHIK - September 25, 2011
lol
Erihury - September 25, 2011
I’m staying positive. I’ve watched around 120 games this year. I’m not giving up before it is officially over; I have too much time invested :-)
cashew - September 25, 2011
Concurred.
nypeach83 - September 25, 2011
I’ve watched probably 150 games this year, and I’m not giving up, but this is killing me.
Ivan the Great - September 25, 2011
I’ve traveled a lot, so if game day counts, I’m at 150, too!
cashew - September 25, 2011
Yup.
You gotta think going home with everything on the line, the team might actually show up.
JR Lacey - September 25, 2011
I can't give up until we've given up the lead
at least.
Classic17 - September 25, 2011

SuperNewb - September 25, 2011

cashew - September 25, 2011

Ivan the Great - September 25, 2011
No... but we were tied for the DIVISION on September 11
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
The Braves didn’t have a 7.5-game lead with 18 left last year.
AmgineRmEht - September 25, 2011
It has become clear that Fredi does not have the Cox.
GumpBrave - September 25, 2011

We’re all being punished.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
Oh fuck you Morse
GumpBrave - September 25, 2011
Fredi, can you at least look visibly upset that you made a bad decision leaving C-Mart in? Would that be too much to ask?
Ivan the Great - September 25, 2011
I think the blank look it definitely upset.
You can’t really get angry at him for not visibly punching something can you?
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
I don’t really equate blank with upset. That’s my issue with it. I’m not asking him to beat a cooler, but at least throw his hands up or something.
Ivan the Great - September 25, 2011
I didn’t scream when that happened.
I sat here and stared at my screen.
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
I did too, but that’s not what I would do if I were there. Or if it were my decision that led to it.
Ivan the Great - September 25, 2011
It is infuriating that he is so emotionless.

There. I said it

The way they’re batting around???
They have…. nine hits……..
SuperNewb - September 25, 2011
And that's why I didn't want Martinez to stay out there
Not using our best bullpen pitchers in a 1 run game = ????
Bronn - September 25, 2011
Good thing is, I now feel fine turning the channel now
In time for the Falcons’ game to start.
Bronn - September 25, 2011
Fredi is absolutely pathological about this sort of thing. I think he truly, honestly believes that the good relievers can only be used when the Braves aren’t trailing.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
Well, you know
It’s something we can point to when he’s fired after the season. But of course, he won’t be.

Ridiculous play.
nypeach83 - September 25, 2011
Zimmerman makes a highlight reel play.....it was inevitable.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011

Bills about to beat the Pats
wpf3211 - September 25, 2011
I can't imagine it's possible
to get any more angry or frustrated with this team. I’m sure they’ll find a way to prove me wrin though, the way they’ve been playing. Pathetic.
Aaron Meier - September 25, 2011 via mobile
Here’s hoping the next three days they just.. break out and play awesome baseball.
nypeach83 - September 25, 2011
*wrong
Aaron Meier - September 25, 2011 via mobile
I got tickets for tomorrow night. I hope they hit better tomorrow.
JimH - September 25, 2011
The Jack Wilson Jinx continues...
BravesFanScout - September 25, 2011
Poor guy...
He played for the Pirates and the Mariners, and he probably thought he was finally going to get a shot with a winning team.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
A positive to take away from this
If the Braves miss the playoffs those of us who have bought playoff tix will get our money back!
BravesFanScout - September 25, 2011
You should get double your money back as compensation for the heart-breaking disappointment.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 25, 2011
Another positive, the young pitchers have pitched well for us down the stretch. Too bad this lineup is so limited in the ways it can score runs. Again, I blame Larry Parrish.
JimH - September 25, 2011
A Haiku:
One up with three left
the hopes and dreams of this year

nuftjedi - September 25, 2011
such a great feeling knowing we'll have to sweep the phils
nuftjedi - September 25, 2011
Is that assuming the cardinals are going to sweep?
Taylor Masters - September 25, 2011
I'm not going to put it past them
nuftjedi - September 25, 2011
They are going to sweep. I'm not even confident we can win 2/3
I’m sorry but I think we’ve blown this
wpf3211 - September 25, 2011
Consecutive series losses to the Mets, Marlins, and Nats
Yeahhh
wpf3211 - September 25, 2011
The freefall started when for the first time this season, we got swept by the Phillies.
rubbles88 - September 25, 2011
Panic Button Engaged
Phils have had a massive losing streak and will come into ATL trying to build momentum for the playoffs. This means we’ll see good pitching. We can’t even hit little league pitching right now. Such a good season to come down to a 1 game lead with 3 to play. It’s going to take us winning 2 games to avoid the 1 game playoff, and I really would like to sit Huddy on Wednesday so he could go Saturday.
Question: What do you get when there are 2 Braves on base with no one out?
Answer: Heartbreak
rxadam - September 25, 2011
Top of the 9th coming up in St. Louis
CHC 2, STL 3
Cubs have Byrd, Soto, and the pitcher’s spot due up in the 9th.
Jason Motte coming in for the 9th. This is his 11th appearance in 17 games.
AmgineRmEht - September 25, 2011
Thunderdome Thread?
Fucking do it..
Kobe:The Legend - September 25, 2011
Fun fact if the Cards hold on
That will make them 4-2 in their last 6 games. In each of those 4…they trailed going into the bottom of the 7th.
VolnVA - September 25, 2011
Clutch team is clutch

I guess this is what happens
When we make fun of the 2007 Mets!!
Kobe:The Legend - September 25, 2011
Well 1 game lead with 3 vs Phils while the redbirds play the horrible Astros at a hitters park. Recipe for success for one of the best offenses in the Cards
PhuckthePhillies - September 25, 2011
Johnson strikes out. Ballgame

If I had just 1 shot to kill someone, depending on Fredi’s quote, I would use it on him.
Kobe:The Legend - September 25, 2011
Thunderdome. Please.
AmgineRmEht - September 25, 2011
Astros are currently losing 16-1. Maybe they will be a little fired up tomorrow
Probably not though
wpf3211 - September 25, 2011
Maybe being at home will light a fire?
I imagine that most of the fan base is as tight as we are, but the fans in the ATL need to step up the next 3 nights. The team needs…SOMETHING…to light a fire under them. Being at home needing to beat the Phils SHOULD bring out the best in everybody. Guess we’ll see. What a terrible sports weekend…
VolnVA - September 25, 2011
There will be probably 20k, like a regular weekend game
Taylor Masters - September 25, 2011
Tickets for the final game are nearly sold out
But many tickets remain for Monday and Tuesday
AmgineRmEht - September 25, 2011
Maybe, just a wishful maybe...
Our freefall started when for the first time this season, we got swept by the Phillies. Maybe, just a wishful MAYBE, we can return the favor and sweep the Phillies to right the ship in time. Well, I’m only hopeful but not optimistic with the odds.
