Very handy! Thanks for putting this up.

I AM DISAPPOINTED...

Where are the multi-faceted scenarios of trading away Jair Jurrjens and/or maybe Martin Prado for any combination of ML ready, prospects, and/or platoon players?

Where are the suggestions for the SS, LF, and (of course) the “Super Utility” positions on the team that everyone talks about? What field number represents the SU position anyway? 10?

Damnit Tony, why aren’t you begging for us to sign Reyes??

I THOUGHT THIS WAS A FANPOST!!!

Sorry, I’ll do better next time.

It might help to have a list of available free agents as well,

or just a quick link at the top to mlbtr’s list of free agents for comparison’s sake to know not only who’s signed, but who’s left available.

This link is very helpful too

http://mlb.sbnation.com/2011/11/9/2550482/2011-2012-mlb-free-agents-tracker-list

It lists all the free agents and you can sort according to various categories.

Due Diligence?
Braves GM Frank Wren and agent Adam Katz are now meeting in Milwaukee, tweets MLBTR’s Ben Nicholson-Smith. Katz represents Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes.

(He also has Hanley Ramirez, but HR isn’t a free agent). In any case, an interesting scoop from Ben.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was about Hanley.

I would be really hurt if it was.

Maybe he just wanted to see how Hanley felt about playing for Fredi again.

What ransom is expected for Cespedes?
Said to be wanting ~Aroldis Chapman's deal

which was 6 yrs, $30m.

Cespedes

has all the makings of a .280, 35 HR LF. That’s worth 5 million a year.

My questions on Cespedes (and no, I don’t think the Braves go after him in any scenario) are: 1. Is he really 26? 2. Is he ML-ready?

I sure would hate to be paying that kind of coin, only to find out that he’s still 2 years away – when he’ll be 28 or 29. I suppose it’s a reasonable risk to take if your organization has poor OF/CF prospects coming up, but aside from that, no.

If nothing else, I would hope his agent has him on an intense ‘Americanization’ cultural training regime just so that “life” isn’t a problem for him as he transitions over here.

(Yes, I realize he’s been watched in international baseball circles for 8 years now, so to that extent, his age certainty is probably a lot better than that of a Dominican player, for example)

His actual age isn’t much of an issue on this deal, IMO. Even if he’s a few years older than he says he is, you’re basically getting his prime seasons over the duration of the contract. It becomes an issue when this deal runs out and you start looking at his next deal.

Also, I think that if anyone in the Cuban Gov/baseball organization had any evidence that he’s older than he says he is, they’d be pretty quick to blow the whistle on him early to make him less desirable to MLB clubs.

excellent point – in fact, it wouldn’t be beyond expectation that the Cuban gov’t might even make up documents to try and discourage the progression of one of their defectors.

Second though, he’s most likely discussing Moylan.

I thought Moylan was with Arn Tellem

Same agency...

But I do believe you’re right.

-C

Wesserman group actually has a ton of intriguing players, but most of them are trade candidates rather than free agents. Brendan Ryan is a client, wonder what Jack Z would want for him.

Mark Kotsay signs with San Diego, so we get to post:

I'm gonna miss Kotsay when he retires.

Tigers sign Gerald Laird to one-year deal.

Dodgers sign Matt Kemp to an 8 year, $160 million dollar deal

Though I’d throw that in here, even though he wasn’t a free agent.

perfect

now trading Hanson, Teheran, Simmons, Salcedo, and Spruill would now be worth it since we would have him long term!

Being reported

that Joe Nathan signed by the Rangers for 2 years/$14 million. Does that mean Feliz is going the Ogando route this year?

Moving to the rotation.

That's what I mean

by going the Ogando route…

Braves decline to offer arbitration to Seabass

I admit being a bit surprised — given the market, I figure he’d decline anyway and Atlanta would get a draft pick comp. Even if he were to accept, the braves could simply trade him if they wanted to…. no real loss.

All I want for Christmas is Jose Reyes

If we can just get Reyes, Kemp, and Pujols....
we like our stars in atlanta under 100 million

we would never have a star like that

Since MLBTR...

can be a tad clunky to navigate at times, this is very helpful. bookmarks
