Phrom Philly.com, an article about the Braves still having a 'swagger.' Money quote:
"I think a characteristic of our team is confidence," said Matt Diaz, who had two of Atlanta's eight hits. "We don't really have a strut on the field but we definitely have a swagger in the locker room, and we're not losing confidence at all. We know we go in the division and control our fate. That's the beauty of being the team that the other team's chasing, whether it's one game or 10 games."
Actually Matt, it's a half game, but whatever, swagger away ... just don't swagger away the lead. Oh wait, too late. Technically I guess it's almost too late.
While the players "are not losing confidence at all," I'm guessing the fans might be losing confidence ... still time to vote in this week's poll.

Cue Brandon Jones joke in 3, 2,...
Mr. Sanchez - September 7, 2010
Q: How many Brandon Jones does it take to screw in a light bulb?
A: Three Brandon Jones. One Brandon Jones to look at an empty socket in Atlanta, one Brandon Jones to look at an empty socket in Pittsburgh, and one Brandon Jones to sit in a dark, lonely room in Detriot.
Poor Brandon. I’m a Brandon too, so I don’t feel too sorry for him. Everytime one leaves the Peach State I grow more powerful.

The last 6 games of the season are at home.....
….which is absolutely huge at this point.
As long as we don’t face the trio of Carpenter, Wainwright, and Garcia once we return home…….I think we’ll be fine. Actually, what are the probables for that series?
Undocorkscrew - September 7, 2010
Wainwright, Carpenter, Westbrook, Lohse
in that order

All 4 are righties....
…..and we’re playing in Atlanta, so I like our chances there. Plus, it seems like the Braves handle elite pitchers quite well.

Good point
Braves probably wouldn’t want to face Jaime Garcia.

I'm nervous but that's just me with sports
I hope the Braves improve and stay on top but the Phillies are a tough team. Going to be close either way. I’m happy that we are good enough late in the year to have a chance to make the playoffs. I’d be ever happier if the Braves win the NL East!

I don’t want the wild card, I want the division

stupid rosters expanding.........lol. what? just me?
And since hiring a new hitting coach isn’t an option, hopefully TP lays out a game plan similar to this….. “When you come up to hit, if there are people on base, pretend like they aren’t even there.”

Kind of like the old...
“Imagine them in their underwear” trick for public speaking.

So what's he supposed to say?
“Oh no, the phillies are better than us, we better be scared!” ???
Everybody loves their confidence, the team chemistry, etc, when they are up in the standings, but then turns into a bunch of spineless whiners when the lead gets down to half a game, and I guess they expect the team to be spineless whiners as well.
For the person who said they are “overconfident”, what do you want? I’ll take overconfidence over scared any day of the week.

That’s real sad coming from a baseball player. Who cares if you swagger in the locker room? I’m glad he’s confident, but that was a poor choice of words.

I’m not sure if I want the team to have “swagger” or to have their tail between their legs after having just gotten their asses handed to them by Bobby Cox and Chipper Jones. Somebody needs to get their attention and wake up their bats. Win a game or two when the Phillies lose, then talk about swagger.
bighop - September 7, 2010
There isn't a member of this team who doesn't want to win....
It’s Bobby, Wags, and could be Chippers last year. They haven’t made the postseason since 2005. They’ve been in first place this year since May 30th. If they miss out, they miss out. It won’t be due to lack of effort, I can assure you that.
They’ve exceeded every one of my expectations for this year and look to have a great team going forward. They just need to close it out.
Undocorkscrew - September 7, 2010
Agreed.
Truly none of us expected them to hold the lead this long. I see no reason why they shouldn’t continue to stay in contention.

MattE gave the quote...
…in the Braves Live post-game show. I was a one-game lead at that time.
