Braves Fans Can Go To Bat For Their Favorite Charity

Go_to_bat_2_mediumFrom time to time I get offers to give stuff away on Talking Chop, but rarely does that offer come with a good cause.

State Farm has teamed up with MLB to give people a chance to attend the 2010 World Series, while making a difference for their favorite charity by "going to bat" for them! In the past four weeks,State Farm has given away 8 tickets to the World Series to lucky winners and over $75,000 to charities like the American Heart Association, The Alzheimer’s Foundation, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

It’s easy to do - Fans just visit www.statefarm.com/gotobat, play the online Home Run Derby game for the charity they would like to "go to bat" for and once a week, for ten weeks, State Farm will select a winner and their charity. The winner’s charity will receive a weekly donation ($100 for every home run hit that week in MLB) and the winner themselves will receive a trip for two the 2010 World Series.

If you'd like to participate here at Talking Chop, then visit the link, sign up, pick a charity, and play the home run game. In the comments section of this post tell us what charity you supported, and then for the title of your comments post, guess what the Braves playoff odds will be tomorrow. Your guess must be to the fifth decimal (ex. 90.12345). The winner will be determined based on tomorrow's Baseball Prospectus playoff odds for the Braves, and the winner will receive a $50 gift card to the Sports Authority courtesy of State Farm.

Let's show them how Talking Chop can Go To Bat!

I think it is outstanding that an insurance company would do this. An insurance company! That’s normally only one step above lawyer, banker, and federal/state government worker as chosen professions, and only two steps above drug dealer and prostitute as chosen professions!

Way to go, State Farm! Maybe you really are “like a good neighbor.” I will definitely play, and if I win the WS tickets I will give them to the State Farm employee who thought of this (who is most likely not eligible to win, for obvious reasons).

You’d rather be an insurance agent than a banker?

Sure wish I could practice that home run hitting thing – I didn’t even make contact.

Dang, I thought for sure I was the only one. Not being a game player at all, I know I’m doing something terribly wrong.

Anyone with some pointers to share?

Ugh. I managed to hit one. Other than that, whiffed the whole time. But that’s why I don’t play video games – except for a good cause. :)

maybe try clicking earlier? I whiffed the first 4 times looking like an idiot, but got into a good rhythm. Right when you see the red circle thing, click.

It’s actually harder when you have fewer home runs tallied…ball comes in slower and it’s harder to time. I hit 25 today and got the full 10 entries.
