So much for aspiring for the sweep. With yesterday's embarrassing loss to the worst team in baseball, and the (fortunate) split in Philadelphia, the Atlanta Braves are clinging to a paltry 0.5 game lead in the NL East's first place position.
The good news is that if there was ever anyone up to the task to stop the losing, it's Tim Hudson. Nine times this year, Huddy's has taken the hill after a Braves loss, and the team has gone 7-2 in those scenarios. Furthermore, Huddy's pretty much had his way with the Pirates throughout his career, with 251 Buc-hitters stepping to the plate and hitting a woeful .214/.283/.326 and drawing only 14 unintentional walks against him. It gets even better in Pittsburgh, with Huddy's numbers jumping to a .186/.248/.232 clip of dominance in their house.
What I'd really like to see today is some sort of ridiculous hot streak beginning for the Braves, much like last year, but instead of it being Javier Vazquez, I'd really love to see Tim Hudson pitch some (real) complete games, starting tonight. No Braves pitcher this year has thrown a (real, 9.0IP) complete game this year. It would be great to see Huddy stop that trend tonight, of all times.
This is also the second day in a row that our opposing pitcher's profile picture is shown wearing the hat of another team, as for some people were shown Brian Burres wearing a Toronto Blue Jays hat yesterday.

Hopefully Braves will figure out Pirates pitches tonight and we will get a lot of runs, although i prefer score 5 runs tonight and 5 tomorrow instead 15 tonight and 2 tomorrow.
Really, i´m not afraid tonight because of the RHP, but tomorrow it`s a LHP

If that’s not a typo screw what Huddy does tonight Hundley is comeback player of the year.

What do you guys think about this? is Heyward’s rookie year actually better than Hank’s?

OK, so I missed the weekend's games to be with my family.
However, on the days where I have posted a picture of my new puppy, we have won (all three of them – who cares about small sample size? Not I.).
Therefore, here is a picture of my young Frankie. She will bring us the WINZ.

Maybe
I just don’t know anymore. I doubt there is more production to be gotten out of that spot, regardless of which of the three we slot in.
Still, with Lee’s slump as bad as it is, what harm would there be in starting Freeman for a few days? If he doesn’t catch on, sit him.

Sir Veza - September 7, 2010
My 1st post
WTF is wrong with the Braves lately, Pirates pitching is looking like the 90’s version of the Braves and we are hitting like pitchers. All during a tight division race.
Andeezy - September 7, 2010
I think they are all tired
and they don’t get a day of rest until the 16th.
HEYJUDE - September 7, 2010
How about trying to shake things up and try to bring back some May magic? Move Prado back to leadoff, and play Troy and Hinske more. I’ll even take McLouth over Ankiel if I have to.
ryantex - September 7, 2010 via mobile
McLouth was no part of that May magic.
Other than that, sure, why not. It can’t be worse than what we’re doing now.
SS451 - September 7, 2010
He started it in late April

BeatTehMets - September 7, 2010
not really
we lost 9 straight after that game
leedawg - September 7, 2010
But it was magic.
Heyward trucking it around the bases shakes the camera in center field. Epic.
BeatTehMets - September 7, 2010
mclouth hasnt been strking out every single ab atleast...unlike ankiel...god we must have the most inadequate center fielders in the league
SouthernPanther - September 7, 2010
McLouth can’t do magic. If he has an RBI we have 99.9% less chance of winning that game. If he has more than 1—we automatically lose.
Joseph_C - September 7, 2010
Hinske has been awful since June
bpk228480 - September 7, 2010

FitzFan - September 7, 2010
You are unacceptable.

Nonsense.
The Pirates’ pitching is terrible. It just doesn’t matter right now. A pitching machine could shut us out.
SS451 - September 7, 2010
No he’s not. John McDonald is a terrible pitcher. He was 0-3 with a 7.71 ERA in his last 3 starts before shit one. The Braves couldn’t hit a beach ball right now.

Rally Joke
A man walked into a doctor’s office and asked the doctor to inspect his leg. The man said, “Here, put your ear to my knee.”
The doctor put his ear to the man’s knee and heard very faintly, “Come on, can I have five bucks, just five bucks?”
The doctor stepped back in horror, and the man said, “I know, but it gets worse. Put your ear to my shin.” The doctor put his ear to the man’s shin and heard very faintly, “Come on, can I have ten bucks, just ten bucks?”
Once again, the doctor stood up, perplexed. The man then said, “If that surprises you, put your ear to my ankle.” The doctor put his ear to the man’s ankle and heard faintly, “Come on, can I have twenty bucks, just twenty bucks?”
The doctor stood up and said, "Well, I can I make just one conclusion.
Your leg is broke in three places."

EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 7, 2010
Wow that was some wicked thunder.
Cayla - September 7, 2010
After this game, the Braves will be the Wild Card leaders.
That means it’s time to start scoreboard watching the Giants. And the F’N Rockies again.
AnEternalEnigma - September 7, 2010
It’ll only be half a game behind. We haven’t lost the division—we’ve just fallen behind.
Joseph_C - September 7, 2010
A change in perspective. A while ago, the team kept saying “we control our destiny” being the team they are chasing. Can’t wait to hear what they say now.
rubbles88 - September 7, 2010

i mean…they have been watching what we do while they were within reach as well

EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 7, 2010
Oh God, seriously ? A rain delay ? Just call the freaking game.
BravesFan2010 - September 7, 2010
The Gods are angry with the Braves and wish to prolong their suffering.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 7, 2010
I really think that loud clap of thunder was a sign from God.
BravesFan2010 - September 7, 2010
Actually, it was Heyward sneezing.
Joseph_C - September 7, 2010
There has to be a 40-minute minimum before calling the game can be discussed.
AnEternalEnigma - September 7, 2010

I think it’s gotta be Conrad.

forgotten_glory - September 7, 2010
Really a rain delay?
Man that would happen… Look like a short one?
SuperNewb - September 7, 2010 via mobile
Radar looks like a lot more rain headed towards Pittsburgh.
BravesFan2010 - September 7, 2010
Hopefully they can squeeze in our comeback in the 9th and quick bottom of the inning.
jack dein - September 7, 2010
well that sucks
SuperNewb - September 7, 2010 via mobile
I don't get it...
If the Braves lose… and the Phillies win… let me do the math…
We’ll be A HALF GAME back, right?
And everybody is acting like we’re about to lose the entire season? Some of you people need some serious happy pills.
SuperNewb - September 7, 2010 via mobile
I honestly don't care if we win the division or not. The only thing that matters to me is winning the WS.
BravesFan2010 - September 7, 2010
cant speak for the others
but i need some serious braves offense
15ks - September 7, 2010
Yeah, seriously. But it’s just that losing on the road with zero offense is so damn depressing!!
TonyAlmeyda - September 7, 2010
Just pray that the Braves get home field advantage in the 1st round and don't have to play the Reds.
BravesFan2010 - September 7, 2010
braves trending downwards
phillies trending upwards
Bob Mackie - September 7, 2010
It doesn’t look good when you lose 5 out of 6, and 2 of the 5 losses have been to a team projected to lose 108 games.
AnEternalEnigma - September 7, 2010
Exactly what I’m thinking. The Phillies play FLA and the Mets on the road. The Braves go home—where they are awesome. Offense does suck this game…Losing to the Pirates is depressing—nonetheless the season isn’t over—despite what it may seem like others think.
Joseph_C - September 7, 2010
Joseph, I think you'll agree that it's an absolute MUST that we get home field throughout the playoffs. We are just horrible on the road.
BravesFan2010 - September 7, 2010
Point taken. I’m optimistic enough to think the Braves can turn it around fast—but even my optimism is starting to fade.
Joseph_C - September 7, 2010
nice job ump...
force Dunn to pitch through a downpour then let the Pirates closer wait for nice weather to come in and get 4 more outs… nice…
Sean Lavery - September 7, 2010
oops
make that 3..
Sean Lavery - September 7, 2010
I seldom leave before a game ends, but unfortunately I can't wait out this rain delay.....
I must retire to bed, so I can get up at 5am for the hell-commute to work.
*Everyone else: Will the Braves to score 6+ runs in the 9th. Brooks Conrad needs another grand slam.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 7, 2010
We ain’t at home—-so no comeback.

Typical road game.
Joseph_C - September 7, 2010
but we cant scored even 1 run?
joshant - September 7, 2010
Had the bases loaded 1 out back in the 6th

BravesFan2010 - September 7, 2010
or 5-1
Joseph_C - September 7, 2010
Last Year in September...
“The Braves went on a 16-3 tear to make a magical run to the NL Wild Card before just coming up short.
But it didn’t start immediately.
That run was immediately preceded by a 3-game sweep by the lowly Reds, who were next to last in the NL Central when they swept the Braves.
Could a 3-game sweep by the Pirates cause a reprise of something similar to the 16-3 run?"
AnEternalEnigma - September 7, 2010
I hope a run happens—but doesn’t fall short.
Joseph_C - September 7, 2010
Also, the Braves went 2-6 to begin September 2009.
AnEternalEnigma - September 7, 2010
awesome…yeah if we play like we did at the end of last year the phillies better watch out
forgotten_glory - September 7, 2010
Umm, the Braves finished the year last year 0-6 so if we finish like we did last year we have no chance to make the playoffs.
BravesFan2010 - September 7, 2010
that was after we were eliminated
SuperNewb - September 7, 2010 via mobile
Well, even after we were eliminated we still had something to play for. We still had a shot to win 90 games.
BravesFan2010 - September 7, 2010
wooo
90 games…
does that matter if u dont make the playoffs? in all honesty?
forgotten_glory - September 7, 2010

well at least the sweep by the nats was

Can Gondee do the Threads?
I remember awhile ago a post analyzing the winning % of all the TC writers and I remember the Braves had the biggest success rate when Gondee did the thread.
So my request even though it would be a ton of work is Gondee do the threads for our remaining games. I’ll take all the luck we can get!

kauf67 - September 7, 2010
can someone tell me why we are losing?
RISP failed
Huddy sucks
?
joshant - September 7, 2010
Not Huddy at all…RISP fail, LOB etc. etc. Huddy gave up some, but he wouldn’t be losing if not for the offensive outage.
Joseph_C - September 7, 2010
but who is the most suckiest?
joshant - September 7, 2010
and what he did to earn that mention?
joshant - September 7, 2010
Derrek and the DP was the suckiest play.
Joseph_C - September 7, 2010
oh it sounds like glaus
joshant - September 7, 2010
Yeah it was a huge (negative) play
momentum wise. If he gets a hit there, I think we win the game.
Cayla - September 7, 2010
the offense has to score 5 runs in first 7 innings or its their fault?
if that’s the case you must not blame lowe for more than 2 of his losses this year
15ks - September 7, 2010
My bad. I thought Hudson only gave up 2 of those runs. So—yes He “sucked” , but he manages to look better while sucking than the offense.
Joseph_C - September 7, 2010
this is unbelievable that we are losing a series agains the worst team of MLB
and the fact that we had used our 2 “best pitchers” make it hurts more

SuperNewb - September 7, 2010
If the fish win then I believe this is our year haa
MikeTrain - September 7, 2010
Phillies fans are ecstatic once they found out we lost
deewill23 - September 7, 2010
it only took them till the 8th inning to figure out what ATL meant on the scoreboard. lolz silly phaillies phans.
jdeuel3868 - September 7, 2010
This I doubt
SuperNewb - September 7, 2010
and you wouldn’t be ecstatic if we lost?
Bilzo - September 7, 2010

SuperNewb - September 7, 2010
Wow, Ryan Madson is staying in to pitch the 9th….
AnEternalEnigma - September 7, 2010
well yea
they know they have to win..why put lidge in?
forgotten_glory - September 7, 2010
Good night everyone
Hopefully falling into second place will get us going and we’ll go on a tear. We went from last to first, we can definitely go from 0.5 back to first. Until tomorrow.
Cayla - September 7, 2010
Uggla Ks. 1 out.
AnEternalEnigma - September 7, 2010
and predicting a 1 2 3 inning for fish now.
MikeTrain - September 7, 2010
Stanton has homered in 3 straight games I think
VivaLosBravos - September 7, 2010
Sanchez flies out on the 1st pitch.
2 outs.
AnEternalEnigma - September 7, 2010
This Pisses Me Off!
But the over all attitude of people on here is just sickening!
UpstateNyBravesFan - September 7, 2010
guess people aren't allowed to lament..
MikeTrain - September 7, 2010
Lament? Why don't we try to support?
UpstateNyBravesFan - September 7, 2010
Do you expect people to be upbeat and positive when the team loses 5 of 6, and 2 against a 100+ loss team?
AnEternalEnigma - September 7, 2010
+1000000000
Hektor DiPaula - September 7, 2010
Did anyone expect this team to even be here?
UpstateNyBravesFan - September 7, 2010
Way to go Gaby!
I heart you!
SuperNewb - September 7, 2010
Mike Stanton is the last hope. He’s been a homer machine in this park.
AnEternalEnigma - September 7, 2010
who's not?
VivaLosBravos - September 7, 2010
Wait...
Me
SuperNewb - September 7, 2010
melky
forgotten_glory - September 7, 2010
Me
SuperNewb - September 7, 2010
can we have a confidence poll tomorrow...????
Hektor DiPaula - September 7, 2010
me = 5
dank7 - September 7, 2010
lol
sub 50 I bet.
VivaLosBravos - September 7, 2010
Man if you'd told me at the beginning of the season we could be where we are now at this point...
I’d take it in a second.
SuperNewb - September 7, 2010
very true
jdeuel3868 - September 7, 2010
walked the tyin run
VivaLosBravos - September 7, 2010
Mike Stanton walks on 4 pitches.
Wes Helms up to pinch hit.
AnEternalEnigma - September 7, 2010
who is the pitching matchup for the braves tomorrow?
joshant - September 7, 2010
DLowe vs A Pitcher From The Pirates
SuperNewb - September 7, 2010
lol
jdeuel3868 - September 7, 2010
and who is that pitcher?
i think it´s a lefty
joshant - September 7, 2010
indeed he is...
but a lefty we have had a lot of luck against in the past
forgotten_glory - September 7, 2010
Luck means nothing
Joseph_C - September 7, 2010
lowe vs. duke
forgotten_glory - September 7, 2010
ugh! Duke is LHP
I´m not confident about that game
joshant - September 7, 2010
ohh shit
Kobe:The Legend - September 7, 2010
it doesnt matter....
dLowe vs a bat boy that will throw a 2 hit shutout…..
Hektor DiPaula - September 7, 2010
Derek Lowe vs. Zach Duke.
Lowe is 9-0 in his career against the Pirates, and the Braves have historically destroyed Duke.
We’ll see what happens.
AnEternalEnigma - September 7, 2010
he´s a lefty...
and remember historically what happens with the lefty’s…..
Hektor DiPaula - September 7, 2010
historically is not today
hopefully, im wrong
joshant - September 7, 2010
Phillies are leading the division
Maybe will take the division back tomorrow!
deewill23 - September 7, 2010
maybe lowe pulls his hand out of his ass and uses it to pitch a good game first...
im skeptical of all this rest he’s been on.
jdeuel3868 - September 7, 2010
.5 back
Come back… get them tomorrow, end the night .5 up
GO BRAVES!
SuperNewb - September 7, 2010
it was good knowing you NL East
Kobe:The Legend - September 7, 2010
...Wait, we're going to another division?
I CHOOSE THE NL WEST!!!
Where I’m pretty sure we’d still be in first!
SuperNewb - September 7, 2010
THIS!
jdeuel3868 - September 7, 2010
For crying out loud, THERE’S 24 GAMES LEFT!!!
TonyAlmeyda - September 7, 2010
Amen, Amen, and Amen!!
Joseph_C - September 7, 2010
Actually 23, but still…13 of those games are at home, and six more with the Phillies.
We got this.
TonyAlmeyda - September 7, 2010
I hope and pray that this lineup bursts into action. Even if it takes Bobby being ejected from every game.
Joseph_C - September 7, 2010
This better wake up the Braves. If it don’t, nothing will.
Joseph_C - September 7, 2010
its official....!!!!!!!!
Hektor DiPaula - September 7, 2010
alright all
let’s hope the braves go out there and brutalize duke tomorrow…little help from the fish would be nice as well!
forgotten_glory - September 7, 2010
Everybody take a step back from your TV
And make sure ESPN doesn’t jizz all over you.
SuperNewb - September 7, 2010
lol
couldn’t say it any better myself
forgotten_glory - September 7, 2010
and now, we have to hear ESPN and all of their guys talking trash
that they know that Phillies will win the division, rable rable
joshant - September 7, 2010
i won't turn espn on...
i will just watch MLBN
forgotten_glory - September 7, 2010
Troy Glaus is so angry and he will go 6-6 with 6 homers in his next start at 1B. He doesn’t like being in second place.
Joseph_C - September 7, 2010
It’ll be more fun letting ESPN enjoy the .5 lead for one ENTIRE night, and then watch the Braves rout the Bucs tomorrow.
Joseph_C - September 7, 2010
It would help if the Marlins routed the Phillies as well.
TonyAlmeyda - September 7, 2010
It better happen.
Joseph_C - September 7, 2010
Remember when we had a 6 game lead? I liked that. I’m going to go puke now.
BullManUGA - September 7, 2010
What the f!!!!
