The Braves have announced that third baseman Martin Prado will be out for the remainder of the season with a torn external oblique muscle. The original injury was thought to be a hip pointer, suffered on the a hard dive in the field Monday night. An MRI was done today to determine the extent of that injury and it revealed this other injury, likely suffered on the swing an inning later in which he had to leave the game.
The injuries late in the season are really adding up for the Braves. They started with Chipper Jones' well chronicled injury in Houston, then Kris Medlen succumbed to Tommy John surgery. Jair Jurrjens has missed the last several starts because of a knee injury, and may not pitch again this year. Let's not forget the degenerative knees which slowed Troy Glaus to the pinnacle of ineffectiveness.
The Braves will finish the season with two infield starters who began the year as the team's utility infielders.

I hate Prado's season (like Chipper's) end on something like this.
He’s been so key to our success this year, this will be a huge void.

Loved how the bench come through for us tonight. This team is EXCITED and we should be too.

Well, maybe next year.

Because I hate you, Trebeck - September 28, 2010
this sucks
It looked like he was in serious pain. I think he was the Braves MVP this year and I hope he returns healthy

MAAAAAAAARRRRRRTEEEEEEEEN
thanks man
Slee - September 28, 2010
Man this is the final nail in the coffin.
No way do we make the postseason without Martin Prado; any one no that if we make the post season would he be available for the first series. Man we are the walking wounded . Personally we should just put Glaus and he so called ailing knees at 3B and use him up and get what we are paying for with him instead of letting him ride the pine for the remainder of the year.
Sucks but I doubt we see the post season after this and if we do and Prado doesn’t return to the lineup in the first game of a series it is going to be another quick exit from the post season for the Bravos.
DAMMMMNNN IIIITTTTT !

Who pissed in your wheaties?
Also, you should learn to proofread. You only make yourself sound more ignorant than you may already be.

We won this game without him. What?
TonyAlmeyda - September 28, 2010
Um… no doubt a lineup without him is a downgrade, but that won’t singlehandedly run us out of this postseason. We only need a win or two more to get there, and once you’re in you have the advantage of short series which means anything can happen. If anyone gets hot in his absence it’s a moot point.

Prado
It’s not like he’s been playing that good lately. And seems to have rubbed off on everyone else; let the first pitch or two go by, even knowing they’re most likely strikes.
pamie jo - September 28, 2010
Wow. Just……….wow.
UMDBHIK - September 28, 2010
Prado is not to blame for anyone else's struggles.
He’s been playing hurt for a while. With your failed line of thinking maybe everyone else’s crappy play has rubbed off on Prado. If you can’t see how this hurts the Braves & shortens the bench, then it’s no use.
So many ignorant sounding fans have come out of the woodwork lately.
FitzFan - September 28, 2010
Indeed.

Well...
If the Braves do win anything this year with all these injuries… a big part of it will be because of Bobby Cox… and I can’t think of a better way for him to go out!
Richie Grogan - September 28, 2010
I'm guessing
“Rest of Season” in this case includes all of postseason as well?
sag969 - September 28, 2010
Yup
2 month rehab
TennKen - September 28, 2010
That’s 2 months UNTIL he can rehab, according to Bobby. So probably a four month downtime once you factor in the two months of rest. And that’s a best case scenario.
J-Freak - September 29, 2010
I’ll go cry in a corner now.
Sparhawk - September 29, 2010
This is almost as bad as the Chipper injury
Why man, why?
saipol - September 28, 2010
if not as bad or worse than chipper’s
saipol - September 28, 2010
Someone’s clearly pissed off the baseball gods, because their favor has left us. Everything felt like magic up through about a week after the all-star break, and then the downward spiral started. Lucky for us the remaining healthy guys are fighting like hell to send Bobby out a winner. We’re gonna need a spark if we get into the postseason though.
J-Freak - September 29, 2010
I better not hear
how the Phillies had to “overcome so many injuries” come playoff time.
ConradsComrades - September 28, 2010
to be fair...they have had a lot of injuries...
but so have we
SouthernPanther - September 28, 2010
yeah
during the regular season
ConradsComrades - September 28, 2010
all about timing....
The Phillies got hurt earlier in the year, and had time to bounce back. Give them credit for taking the division and their FO made some pretty nifty moves during the season. Despite what I think of a large portion of their fan base, that team is managed very well. Still, I want to kick their ass in the playoffs.
Shoert - September 28, 2010
They’ve been managed pretty well within this season, but overall Amaro has been mortgaging their future and they’re gonna hit a decline in the next year or two. Way too much money tied up in guys like Howard and they’ve sold off a ton of talent in the last year and a half to get guys like Lee and Oswalt.
J-Freak - September 29, 2010
Given that the Phillies have an extra $50 M or so to work with, I don’t think their FO deserves any kudos.
fandave - September 29, 2010
why not?...........
The Braves had deep pockets at one time and we still give JS a lot of credit. And they may hit a decline but it wont be in the next year or two. They have a lot of good players returning next year (everyone but Werth, right?) and their farm system might not be as good as ours right now, but it still doesnt seem bad.
Shoert - September 30, 2010
booo!!!
i miss pradster already… :(

Significant injury losses:
Grandpa
Krabs Medallion
Odarp
EOF
JJ
Lots of pitching in that list. I don’t include McLouth because let’s face it, he wasn’t providing anything positive at the time of his injury.

Saito too.

Prado
This stinks. I am agitated by the people who are choosing to voice their displeasure with Martin on a post about him being done for the season.
This guy started the All Star Game. He was an MVP candidate until his season became filled with thumb, groin, and oblique injuries. He is one of the hardest working and most humble players in the majors. The Braves would not be anywhere near the Wild Card lead without him.
Yes, he had been struggling, but who on this team hasn’t? He could have taken days off to heal his groin, but he chose to play injured to help the team. In fact, he hurt himself on a solid-defensive play.
I think the Braves will be fine without him. No, we won’t be as good, but we have to move on. Conrad needs to step up. Thus, I am upset for Prado. He now has to watch the playoff chase/run from the dugout after sacrificing his body for the team all season. Bummer.
Get well Prado!
Jman781 - September 29, 2010
This^^
dragonhawk26 - September 29, 2010
All Martin Prado did since March was bust his ass every day trying to help this ballclub win. This is a huge loss and I look forward to his return next spring.
UMDBHIK - September 29, 2010
sure,
WHY NOT?!?
southman - September 29, 2010
This will hurt, but lets not forget that it was just 2 years ago that Prado was third on the depth chart, at best behind Kelly Johnson and Infante. He stepped up, now someone else must. At this point in the season, any thing is possible with any team. How many times has the best team in the league not made it to the World Series. They just need to get hot.
