Tim Hudson had a rough first inning and the Braves offense couldn't rebound, despite the Mets ace Johan Santana leaving after the fifth inning with a pectoral strain. The Mets opened up the scoring with a Carlos Beltran triple and a throwing error by Omar Infante, which landed in the Braves dugout causing Beltran to come around to score. The newly acquired Joaquin Arias reached on an infield single later in the inning which brought in Chris Carter.
Brian McCann hit his 20th homer in the bottom of the second but the rest of the Braves offense stayed dormant until the bottom of the eighth. Melky Cabrera singled, Jason Heyward walked, Bobby Parnell threw a wild pitch to advance both runners, and Martin Prado reached on a chopper to third, scoring Cabrera. McCann opened up the bottom of the ninth with a single but the following three Braves were retired, giving Hisanori Takashi his third save of the season.
David Wright hit a homer off of Hudson in the sixth, his 22nd of the season. Hudson ended with a line of 7 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K. He was solid but unspectacular, mostly due to his rough start to the game. Earlier in the day, Hudson earned the NL Pitcher of the Month award for August.
This was a good series overall, but the team unfortunately could not close out the sweep. You cannot win them all, and losing to a pitcher like Santana is never anything to be ashamed of.

……………..Thanks, Ernie.

because a guy sitting hundreds of feet from the field...
actually impacts play?
Mr. Sanchez - September 3, 2010
it's called "joking around" man
even Ernie said he jinxed em last nite
Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 3, 2010
Some people don't seem to get the joke...
and seriously believe in a jinx.
Mr. Sanchez - September 3, 2010
Bad night, too many errors, not enough offense. Still, 3 outta 4 ain’t bad.
bighop - September 2, 2010
This game wasn't fun
and I think it’s hard not to analyze each game, saying if we just could have gotten a hit here and not made an error there, we would have won. But unfortunately things are going to go wrong sometimes; otherwise we would win every game. But the important thing to me is that most of the time, late in games, we’re still in it and we usually put ourselves in position to tie or win. A lot of times we get the key hit, we just didn’t quite pull it off tonight.

I hope the clubhouse guy
Sneezed all over the Rockies postgame spread.
Sam Jethroe - September 2, 2010
This...
Stupid Rockies.
Jman781 - September 3, 2010
"Rallying Phillies show Braves how it's done"
Anyone else see this bullshit on the mlb.com front page? Utterly ridiculous. Shit just pisses me off.
MartinMcFly - September 3, 2010
Oh my god
that’s pathetic. How many last AB wins do we have? How many come from behind wins do we have?
Scott Coleman - September 3, 2010
you know somebody had that headline saved for a special occasion
Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 3, 2010
.....................
That’s all I have to say.

Fuck the Rockies.

We can't do much more than win 3 of 4
Sweeping a 4 game series is a rarity. Gotta count on teams like the Rockies to help us out a little and not just implode
ATLBRVS_19 - September 3, 2010
We’re going to have to do this thing all by ourselves. Besides Houston, not one team has done shit to help us out in the last month.
I guess we’ll just have to sweep Philly when we see them in three weeks.
Scott Coleman - September 3, 2010
Anybody else have a bad feeling
That if we win the division, “Bud” will just take a poll of ESPN employees and award the Division to whoever wins that?
Sam Jethroe - September 3, 2010
As a side note, the commenters on the ajc site are comically ignorant
ATLBRVS_19 - September 3, 2010
One other thing...
how much does Peachtree TV suck?
Not only are they a joke with their 6 different commercials, annoying dinosaur aka JJ, and horrible them song, but they overlay every stat that comes back to bite the Braves in the butt.
Literally 15 seconds after that did Beltran hit a triple and then score on the error.
He’s 3-for-5 with a HR since then.
Thank goodness we have FSN for the next week while we’re on the road. I’m so sick of Peachtree and Ernie Johnson and his dumb monotone. The new #1 priority for Atlanta in the off-season is locking up a decent station to broadcast our home games. It’s getting to the point where I’d rather watch the away team’s broadcast instead of ours, and that’s pretty sad.
Scott Coleman - September 3, 2010
I usually always watch the away team’s broadcast when we are playing at Turner Field. But that’s just because I can’t stand the standard def that Peachtree airs on.
dunnytwogloves - September 3, 2010
Peachtree has no strike zone cam.
Peachtree interviews nobody after the games.
It’s like someone said, “We’re going to do Braves games, but let’s do the absolute bare minimum, here.”
They aint got shit on Joe and Chip.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 3, 2010
Regarding the strike zone cam, that’s one thing that always kills me when watching a nationally televised Fox broadcast. They don’t have a strike zone cam, but all of the FoxSports station do. Is Tim McCarver just too old school to use one??
And yeah, I have the DirecTV Extra Innings package, and it’s definitely embarassing when you see the level of the Peachtree broadcasts compared to all the other networks.
dunnytwogloves - September 3, 2010
I'm forced to disagree
Nothing Chip-free can ever truly suck.
Sam Jethroe - September 3, 2010
I wonder...
If Pete Van Wieren has a son?
We hate Ernie’s boy and Skip’s boy… so we need to try Pete’s!
Anyone remember Milo Hamilton?
HalleyGator - September 3, 2010
I don't hate Chip
I just prefer not to have to listen to him.
I like Ernie. Some people hear bland, I hear controlled and professional. I never, ever want to have to put up with a Rich Waltz type homer-screamer.
Sam Jethroe - September 3, 2010
If there is one positive thing that came out of last night, it is that the Rockies lost (unfortunately, at the expense of the Philthies winning). I don’t know about you, but I don’t like the idea of the Rockies making a September surge, making the playoffs, and facing the Braves in a 3 of 5 series.
As for our division, it was a bad week for us. Granted, we won 5 of 7, but we really needed Philadelphia not to go 6 of 7. Before the week started, I felt like we needed to be 4 or 5 games up going on the road. A 2-game lead is not a great thing going on the road, but I’m just hoping we can take at least 4 of 6 on this series. A sweep of either Pitt or Fla would be huge on this trip.
ryantex - September 3, 2010
Well, it's time for someone to do it
Jason Heyward went 0-3 with a selfish base-clogging BB, and GIDP. Surely, that sample size is large enough to justify a hateful diatribe about how he needs to be benched, and sent back to extended spring training.
royhobbs - September 3, 2010
BENCHED!?
DFA HIM!!!!
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 3, 2010
So, who's taking this one?
Mr. Sanchez - September 3, 2010
Problem is
Someone has to mean it. Surely there are people who agreed with the last one who is willing to rant about it, otherwise, it’s forced, and likely ineffective.
royhobbs - September 3, 2010
I concur...
do you happen to have a regularly published letter of news to which I might subscribe?
