For the rest of the season we'll keep a daily tally of the Atlanta Braves chances of making the postseason, along with daily commentary. Also consider this a daily open thread for general chatting.
| NL East | W | L | PCT | GB | STRK | Magic Num | Playoff Odds |
| Phillies | 85 | 61 | .582 | - | W3 | 15 | 92.8% |
| Braves | 83 | 63 | .568 | 2 | L1 | 19 | 77.4% |
Ugly. A downright ugly loss to a team that everyone knows we should beat. No excuse for that one, and I'm getting tired of doffing my cap to the opposing pitcher for having a good outing.
The Phillies won, but San Fran and Colorado lost, so we're forced to look behind us now instead of looking ahead.
Not to single anyone out too much, but Martin Prado has now left 10 men on base and is hit-less this series. That needs to change quickly.
The Braves turn to the rookie tonight, Mike Minor. They should be able to produce some offense against John Lannan. Just about everyone who has faced him has hit him well -- lots of .400 and .500 batting averages against him for Braves hitters.

Derrek Lee
Has cursed us.
He can’t hit squat.
Rally Killer.
We have GOT to stop the bleeding and put this Cub on the bench.
HalleyGator - September 15, 2010
Hopefully...
Glaus plays first tonight and shows Bobby something.
HalleyGator - September 15, 2010
Glaus would probably a downgrade, there. At least Lee can make contact.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 15, 2010
He’s playing first and batting 4th today…
michaelcooksey - September 15, 2010

Ding ding ding...

bq.Martin Prado has now left 10 men on base and is hit-less this series. That needs to change quickly.
Heyward shoud bat 3rd..!!!!! that simple….
Hektor DiPaula - September 15, 2010
Heyward shoud bat 3rd..!!!!! that simpleā¦.
Hektor DiPaula - September 15, 2010
I think Pardo just needs to step it up again and start coming through with big hits. I would love to see Heyward in the 3 spot too, but Prado left Heyward on base 4 times last night…If Heyward is batting 3 then Prado defn can’t leave him on, but he can’t hit with him on base either…
michaelcooksey - September 15, 2010
Genius.
Smoltz's Beard - September 15, 2010
I concur
Don Pardo must think that since he is old and not actually a baseball player that he can continue to kill rallies. Well, I disagree. Kick his old ass off the team.
buzzdeadwax - September 15, 2010
At least call Alan Coulter up.
Get thet hunger ginger boy into the lineup!
Sam Jethroe - September 15, 2010
I woke up with a feeling of purpose today...
Hopefully the team did the same…
LET’S DO IT!!!
SuperNewb - September 15, 2010
Our only hope at winning the division....
Keep pace with the Phils……
take them down ourselves…..because nobody else will.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 15, 2010
Not to single anyone else out – Jair is done.
CharlotteChop - September 15, 2010
FWIW
He admitted in a recent XM interview that he isn’t 100% right now… obviously this is showing. I didn’t get any further elaboration on what the problem is… whether it’s still the hamstring or something else, but the phrase “ever since [he] came back” from the prior injury was used.
carpengui - September 15, 2010
Definitely not surprising. I posted back in early season that it seemed like his shoulder injury probably related some how to the hamstring. The shoulder could be acting up again now. That seems more logical since he has lost velocity and is getting no action on his breaking stuff. Everything is fat. It definitely makes sense that he is not healthy, a guy of his caliber doesn’t just hit the tank like this w/o something being wrong. That’s why I think he’s “done”.
CharlotteChop - September 15, 2010
Yeah, I wish I could say that missing a start would revive him. Just dunno.
carpengui - September 15, 2010
I think the lack of run-support has messed with Jurrjens’ gameplan. When this happens, you deviate and get lit up.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 15, 2010
3 in the 1st off Wainwirght wasn’t good enough?
CharlotteChop - September 15, 2010
NOON GAME TIME START TODAY
…For anyone still caught unawares.
carpengui - September 15, 2010
genius, MLB. lower the attendance that much more.
sheer genius.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 15, 2010
This used to be occasionally routine as the “Businessman’s [-person’s] Special”. But (a) not so much lately; and (b) against the Nats?
carpengui - September 15, 2010
That was always just a marketing ploy.
The day game is because it is getaway day. That’s why. Even with an off-day tomorrow, when both teams are headed out of town after the game, they often play it in the afternoon.
cavebird - September 15, 2010
The Phillies have the day off Thursday, and their game isn’t until 7 tonite….
I see the whole “getaway” bullcrap, but then again, not really. It basically just means no Braves game until Friday.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 15, 2010
hey hey
its a night game for me!!! As opposed to a midnight game
traphicg - September 15, 2010
haha
awesome.
if they win, i’ll probably watch the replay
Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 15, 2010
What's really bad about this...
….is the Braves’ last “Business Fans’ Special,” I believe, was also against the Nats. I went to that game and it was awful: hot, humid, humiliating (Braves lost), horribly attended. Sigh…
Old Braves' Fan - September 15, 2010
This is becomming
Increasingly painful by the day… I feel like this whole team is tired and the whole “let’s do it for Bobby” just ain’t enough to keep ’em going…
HansonManCrush - September 15, 2010 via mobile
HIT JASON THIRD!!!!!!
It’s so obvious that he should be hitting third. Martin isn’t a 3 hole hitter. Martin is a guy that moves runners over and is a contact kinda guy. Jason drives the ball and teams are pitching around him right now to get to Martin

Kiss of Death
which (and I hope I’m wrong) means another shutout.
nuftjedi - September 15, 2010
Yep, 'cause the Braves' performance against Hernandez was a bad harbinger.
In his series preview mvhsbball even alluded to it with the comment, “John Lannan, a soft-tossing lefty (oh boy.).” So, let’s hope the Braves’ line-up fingured out overnight how to hit slow breaking stuff.
Old Braves' Fan - September 15, 2010
WTF
the highlight on the Braves official site was Ross entertains the dugout.
joshant - September 15, 2010
Except for Jason Heyward getting on base in each plate appearance,
Ross’ antics were about the only highlight from Tuesday night’s game, sadly.
Old Braves' Fan - September 15, 2010
Todays lineup
1. Infante
2. Heyward
3. Prado
4. Glaus
5. Diaz
6. Gonzalez
7. Cabrera
8. Ross
9. Minor
I don’t think Heyward is going to bat third this year, which is a shame. I defn think they should move Prado either back to leadoff and drop Infante to 2, or at leat flip flop Prado and Heyward. Then again, I think that’s the general sentiment around here…
michaelcooksey - September 15, 2010
Freeman would be looking really good in clean-up.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 15, 2010
Not yet.
Richard R - September 15, 2010
Bah.
It’s is better to have your high OBP hitters in the 1 and 2 spot because they can get on base. Doesn’t anyone remember what it was like when Chipper kept hitting singles and doubles with 2 out and nobody on all the time? If we moved Heyward back, he’d just be getting hits with no one on base and 2 outs. Prado will hit and hitting with runners in scoring position is really just a function of hitting. It isn’t a repeatable skill.
Perrinbar - September 15, 2010
Not to take a turn to negative town here……….I turn to my TC family for help! Someone say something right now to make me feel better! I don’t wanna be in the corner sulking during the nuptials!
jdmarine - September 15, 2010
You make absolutely adorable kids :-)
NCChopper - September 15, 2010
Lol! Wow! Well played ma’am! Well played! This is one of the best pics ever! We were walking to the beach a couple sundays ago. “say cheese!” the lil’ girl turns around and goes……..CHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!! haha!
jdmarine - September 15, 2010
Your kids are so lucky to have a Dad like you.
NCChopper - September 15, 2010
Braves are awesome in day games at home.
….and Jason has a .404 OBP.
carpengui - September 15, 2010
NICE!
jdmarine - September 15, 2010
Let's see, 11 innings of scoreless innings for us by Nats pitchers.
And we’re supposed to be an actual threat in the post season?
Last night, after 3 trips through the lineup got us nothing against Livan (again), I wish Bobby would have rested some of the starters and give some of the bench guys an at bat or two. Who knows, they have more in the tank right now and may have actually got a hit or two, or at least prevented a shutout.
I’m trying really hard to remain positive, but this team is playing like they need a nap. Granted, this has been a long stretch of games without a day off, but we’re not doing business against the teams we should.
The calendar is running out…I’m hoping the turnaround comes soon… very soon.
I won’t be home today to watch and will DVR the game. I’m hoping the Bravos find a way to leave for another road trip on a positive note.
This one will be tough.
NCChopper - September 15, 2010
At least the contenders don't throw soft-tossers

Do any of you guys know how long it takes to the park from Lake Altoona? I’m trying to decide now which game to go to as I have been saving for a trip for a couple months. One of my Marine Corps brothers lives up there and is gonna let me crash at his pad. He’s gotta work:( What section should I shoot for(price permitting) and how much travel time?
Aside, we do seem to be running on empty, I know we need the winzzz right now but I was hoping for a B lineup today.
jdmarine - September 15, 2010
I’m not giving up on this team yet, but this team is not where it needs to be right now.
A win today hopefully puts some pressure on the Phillies and gives the offense a hard, swift kick in the ass going into the Mets series this weekend.
Let’s take back what is rightfully OURS!!
TonyAlmeyda - September 15, 2010
Still plenty of time to get hot and for the Phills to cool off. Hopefully this is just a mini slump and we are about to bust out the heavy artillery.
Sparhawk - September 15, 2010
Prado
Infante
Heyward
would probably kick-start it. Otherwise, it may not get done in time.
