From AOL's FanHouse:
A major league source told FanHouse Tuesday that the Cubs had reached out to [Fredi Gonzalez], the deposed Florida Marlins manager, with an offer of a job interview.
Gonzalez, the source said, told the Cubs thanks, but no thanks.
That certainly adds fuel to the already hot rumor that Gonzalez is the clear front-runner for the Atlanta Braves managerial job once Bobby Cox retires at the end of the season. The Braves won't say anything about their managerial search or even their thinking until after the season, out of respect for Cox. That's the right move by Atlanta, but that won't stop everyone from speculating about who it could be. This certainly seems to indicate that either Fredi may already be in the Atlanta camp, or that may be the only job he would consider at this point.

Jair Jurrjens just hung another slider.

Or it could be the cubs are truly an F'in mess, and nobody wants to coach them.

This.

+1
I pity the poor bastard that takes the Cubs job…

bench players
Why don’t Bobby Cox Let Diory Hernandez and Freddie Freeman Go In and Try Hit This pitcher and give some of these guys That can’t hit this guy rest? maybe they might hit his pitching.
jayball - September 14, 2010
I literally understood none of this. Someone care to translate?
UMDBHIK - September 14, 2010
Let the
Bench guys play against a guy who throws a 62ph frizbee and see if they can make solid contact. I would have rather had freeman up there swinging than see Lee strike out looking twice

Are we all of the consensus that Fredi is the right choice?
Just curious if anyone thinks otherwise.
Doghnut - September 14, 2010
Severely don't think he should be the choice

stupid spelling mistake
Mr. Sanchez - September 14, 2010
No
We need someone with a far more aggressive attitude and a far more open mind than Cox. My choices would be Pendleton or Eddie in that order. I’ll be okay with Fredi, but he’s not the savior too many people seem to think he’ll be.
Sam Jethroe - September 14, 2010
Wait, where’s the evidence that Pendleton and Eddie are more aggressive and open mided than Cox or Gonzalez?
cbwilk - September 15, 2010
For Pendleton
1991. What he did that year as a player is exactly what this team could use from a manager.
Pretty much anybody is going to be more open to ideas that originated after 1959 than Cox.
Sam Jethroe - September 15, 2010
I still don’t really see how there’s any proof that Pendleton would be different from Bobby.
cbwilk - September 15, 2010
Do you really think
He’d be stupid/stubborn/senile enough to run this same dumbass lineup that Cox had gone to for pretty much the last month? The one with Prado out of the spot where he excelled all year and Heyward in a position where he can’t usually drive in more than one run?
I guess it’s possible. He may have already been infected with Coxian lethargy but I seriously doubt it.
Sam Jethroe - September 15, 2010
I suspect that Pendleton would find his own unique ways to screw things up rather than repeat Cox’s mistakes. But in the end we still wouldn’t be really happy with Pendleton as manager.
Zontar - September 15, 2010
I don't understand how Pendleton is the guy
I mean, I haven’t even seen anything that tells me he is good at his current job…I haven’t necessarily seen anything bad either but either way I’m not sure he is justified to get a promotion.
Doghnut - September 15, 2010
This.
cbwilk - September 15, 2010
I think otherwise.
I’ll take Dave Brundage for $1000, Alex.
Otherwise, I’d like to see Chino Cadahia. Or Glenn Hubbard. Or..and I know I’m gonna catch flak for this: Bobby Valentine. ::ducks::
Chopaholic - September 15, 2010
Valentine's first day here
Will come the day after my last. I am not alone in that opinion. The very possibility, remote though it is, is one reason that I’m prepared to accept Fredi, even though I’m not that high on him.
Sam Jethroe - September 15, 2010
Fredi Fredi
He’s our man
If he can’t do it
Ogre can!
UMDBHIK - September 14, 2010
Neeerrrrrrds!
Chopaholic - September 15, 2010
I’d be fine with Fredi Gonzalez or Eddie Perez. I just hope Terry Pendelton gets so angry at not getting the job that he quits as hitting coach.
jeg - September 14, 2010
I kind of think he would.
cbwilk - September 15, 2010
Maybe Pendleton could go manage the Cubs.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 15, 2010
At least you know Fredi is willing to let guys run
Which works well with all the speed we’ve been drafting lately.
king of games - September 15, 2010
Fredi did a pretty good job managing the Marlins…I mean they did finish ahead of the Braves last year with arguably less talent. Also, it seemed part of the reason he was fired by the Marlins was for staying true to himself and not being who they wanted him to be which is always a good thing.

Fredi is A Lock as manager 4 the Braves in 2011...
