For the rest of the season we'll keep a daily tally of the Atlanta Braves chances of making the postseason, along with daily commentary. Also consider this a daily open thread for general chatting.
| NL East | W | L | PCT | GB | STRK | Magic Num | Playoff Odds |
| Phillies | 84 | 61 | .579 | - | W2 | 17 | 86.6% |
| Braves | 83 | 62 | .572 | 1 | W1 | 19 | 83.4% |
Raise your hand if you had Derek Lowe in the pool for "best start of the season." That start last night would certainly get some votes. Twelve strikeouts next to Lowe's name just looks weird.
The Phillies also won, so we don't gain a game. But someone finally beat Colorado last night to break their 10-game winning streak. They were really starting to scare me in the Wild Card hunt. Still are, actually. Here are your Wild Card standings:
It's a three-team race, and probably another race that will come down to the final series of the year. It would be nice for the Braves to get some separation here too.
Tonight's Nationals starter, Livan Hernandez, was tough against us the last time he faced us -- a month and four days ago. We ended up winning the game, but only on a walk-off single by Jay-Hey. I love the walk-offs, but let's get Livan early tonight and cruise like we did last night.

The stretch run is going to be fun...
And extremely stressful.
Jman781 - September 14, 2010
I see lots of people getting banned
BeatTehMets - September 14, 2010
ummm
can I vouch for that w/o actually getting banned?
I foresee a LOT of hair graying.
traphicg - September 14, 2010
At the minimum – pulling.
NCChopper - September 14, 2010
That’s why I just cut my short last week. Can’t pull it out now. Think ahead people!
Sparhawk - September 14, 2010
On the bright side...
If we come through, make the playoffs and win the WS, I foresee a lot of hair pulling of a different nature going on.

I see lots of people drinking heavily…and getting banned.
WienerDog - September 14, 2010
I will be following the advice of Bluto Blutarski and start drinking heavily. You guys should this advice; he’s pre-med, you know.
J-Freak - September 14, 2010 via mobile
insert “heed” between “should” and “this.”
J-Freak - September 14, 2010 via mobile
I thought it was pre-law…
Sam Jethroe - September 14, 2010
No, someone else is pre-law. Bluto was pre-med, which is why his advice on how to treat the human body (in this case, alcohol transfusion) was gospel.
J-Freak - September 14, 2010
I think Otter was pre-law, which is why they had him stand up and speak at their
shamhearing in front of the Dean, Marmalard and Niedermeyer.J-Freak - September 14, 2010
Yes, that's right.
Otter: Point of parliamentary procedure!
Hoover: Don’t screw around, they’re serious this time!
Otter: Take it easy, I’m pre-law.
Boon: I thought you were pre-med.
Otter: What’s the difference?
Babs took excellent notes at that hearing.
Sam Jethroe - September 14, 2010
i am actually heading down to ATL
for the last series, for the first time ever.
geez, i picked a good time to go to Turner Field.
dank7 - September 14, 2010

First time for me as well
bpk228480 - September 14, 2010
i have tix to the last game
I suggested a TC meeting point before the game. Who is down?
Sir Veza - September 14, 2010
actually
might be a good idea. I have tickets to the last game and will be tailgating, so I’ll be drunk and down for meeting strangers. :) I wanna meet the dude who made rainbowllamasaurus. or at least introduced him to us.
Xshare - September 14, 2010
yeah seriously
I have a 6ft tomahawk (no sexual reference) that people love to take pics with. It would make a great avatar for someone ;)
Sir Veza - September 14, 2010
you're both damn lucky
I was very much planning to do so, but something came up about 2 weeks ago that is keeping me from making it down there – yet again.
nuftjedi - September 14, 2010
as am i...
actually, meeting the whole fam there, woot! just got our tix for Saturday, and though they wont be joining me, Im planning on heading to the game Sunday and maybe Friday too… so excited!
knarf - September 14, 2010
yeah....
you’ll see the last series against the Phucks with only 10 people in threads….
Hektor DiPaula - September 14, 2010
everyone needs to get out to the games
if it’s close.
show monster support
dank7 - September 14, 2010
Group flight from Israel anyone?
I know about 3 other fellow Bravos fans around here that are also losing too much sleep as October nears….

Ryan Howard
As if we needed another reason to hate a once-amazing show, Entourage had a Ryan Howard cameo on sunday’s finale. What a doucher. He was even a douche in the show.
traphicg - September 14, 2010
Careful
What you say about Phillies players, otherwise those a-hole Philly fans a liable to flood the comment board and start attacking your personal character…
HansonManCrush - September 14, 2010 via mobile
i guess i could talk about Drew Brees, but he’s badass and his cameo was cool too
traphicg - September 14, 2010
Sorry
I don’t know that much about Drew Brees outside of his famous chant haha… But I hate the Phils as much as anyone, so say all you want I’ll back you up I’m just lookin out… I hate most of the guys on that squad, except Ryan Madson, he’s an alright dude
HansonManCrush - September 14, 2010 via mobile
that show is freaking gay, as is Howard, so I guess that works
Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 14, 2010
just because its “Sex in the City” for men doesnt make it gay….
traphicg - September 14, 2010
……it doesn’t?
Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 14, 2010
no homo
traphicg - September 14, 2010
Chase Utley
You run fast. I cant throw as well as you can but i think you’d be impressed by my speed. I think our relationship could be a real home run.
traphicg - September 14, 2010
Haha… Nice, great great show
HansonManCrush - September 14, 2010 via mobile
Cant believe i'm rooting for the Pads
but those damn September Rockies are frightening
traphicg - September 14, 2010
10 wins and I'd say we got the playoffs...
12 more wins, guarantees it and probably the division. But we need at least 10 more for the playoffs imo.
Mr. Sanchez - September 14, 2010
Definately doable
I’m not sure why, but i’m not afraid of the Phils… This team has handled them nicely this season
HansonManCrush - September 14, 2010 via mobile
Yep...
won’t be easy, but certainly doable.
2 more at home with Washington, then 3 at their place
3 at the Mets, and 3 at home with Florida, and then the 6 vs. Philly, 3 home and 3 away.
Mr. Sanchez - September 14, 2010
If we take 2 of 3 from the Phillies on the road...
I will friggin lose it.
SuperNewb - September 14, 2010
I. Want. Phillie.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 14, 2010
I have 100% confidence in our team
It has taken the Braves playing poor baseball and Philly playing great baseball for them to be up 1 game. They won’t be able to sustain such a pace and we aren’t going to play crap baseball with McClouth and Lowe playing well.
Sir Veza - September 14, 2010
Lets win tonight
and get me back to .500!
Scott Coleman - September 14, 2010 via mobile
Anti-jinx, anti-jinx, anti-jinx, anti-jinx...
Whew….that was close. You almost screwed the team over with that one.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 14, 2010
Crap...

My wife just got us tickets for Oct 2nd! woot!!! Being a CNN employee has a lot of perks.
Sparhawk - September 14, 2010
Oh, and let’s score at least 7 runs on Livan.
Sparhawk - September 14, 2010
did you get tix sitting together?
I couldn’t get 2 seats right next to each other for Oct 2 or 3
Sir Veza - September 14, 2010
Stubhub has tickets together, and the cheap seats aren’t that expensive.
Got dugout seats for Oct 2 and field seats for Oct 3. Will be flying up to Atlanta.
TC social at the outfield bar?
ryantex - September 14, 2010
damn
already bought my tix. I’ve got the left-center field for me and the next section to the left for my friend….oh well, I’m down for a TC meet-up
Sir Veza - September 14, 2010
Same here.
Sparhawk - September 14, 2010
I haven’t a clue yet. She has a friend at work that isn’t going so she’s giving her tickets to us. I’m guessing they are together, but won’t know till later this week when we get them. I’m stoked though!
Sparhawk - September 14, 2010
Note: FYI – if you didn’t already know – that game has been rescheduled from it’s original time.

NCChopper - September 14, 2010
Yeah I know!!
It was going to be a night game and I can’t go now because I have church :(
Sir Veza - September 14, 2010
God would understand… after all he’s playing anyway under the alias Jason Heyward
SuperHeyward - September 14, 2010
+1
BeatTehMets - September 14, 2010
The church I go to uploads their sermons online. I suppose for one week, I could watch online. Either that or attend a Wednesday service.
Sparhawk - September 14, 2010
Seventh Day?
sddbaker - September 14, 2010
yup
Sir Veza - September 14, 2010
I would guess you are familiar with Collegedale, TN ?
HEYJUDE - September 14, 2010
Collegedale, TN...
…I landed my plane there once! lol
Old Braves' Fan - September 14, 2010
never heard of it
Sir Veza - September 14, 2010
Southern Adventist University
is located here, and 90% of the population is Seventh Day Adventist. This beautiful little place is just outside of Chattanooga, Tn. This town shuts down on Saturday. I admire their dedication to their beliefs.
HEYJUDE - September 14, 2010
OHHHHH
HAhahahha don’t I feel like an ass. When we had the GC (General Conference) here in Atlanta back in the first week of June, SAC was there recruiting incoming freshmen.
What I don’t get is how Truett Cathy allows Chik-fil-A to shut down on Sunday. Jesus wouldn’t turn away a hungry soul yet everytime I want a #1 with a lemonade on Sunday I am denied.
Sir Veza - September 16, 2010
do you have stopping power….?
Hektor DiPaula - September 14, 2010
Of course
The disturbing part is the 9-game road trip. It doesn’t matter that 2/3’s of those games are against the Mets and Florida…
It’s time to prove we can win on the road.
WienerDog - September 14, 2010
Just win damnit!!!
I’m sick and tried of this crap. No more one game down, one game up sh-t. Win at least 10 in a row!!!
taney71 - September 14, 2010
Question:
For the last 6 series of the game, would you guys rather have Philadelphia’s schedule or ours? We’re playing the exact same teams for the same number of games, and we both have 9 at home and 9 away. The only real difference is that they have a 9-game homestand while we have a 9-game road trip. But, on the other hand, we get to finish off the season at home for 6 games.
I’d think I’d rather have the Braves’ schedule. I really think it’s going to come down to that final series and it’s just spectacular that it’s at home (against the best home team in baseball).
McGriff the Crime Dog - September 14, 2010
The biggest difference...
Is that they have to play the Braves six times. I think our Braves could beat the Braves, but I don’t think Philly will be able to do it.
-C
cthabeerman - September 14, 2010
I wish Lowe would have told Roger earlier in the season (and last year) that he needed help. What if he turns into the same guy that dominated in the stretch run for the Dodgers in 2008? Make it happen Lowe.
romone_braves91 - September 14, 2010
Sometimes...
I just get carried away and go on the Braves ticked site to see what’s available. I checked for tickets for Sunday, Oct. 3, against the Phillies – last game – and got crazy and ordered one in the Golden Moon level. I sort of hope it’s an important game, but sort of not, as in I hope we have it won by then.
Go Braves!!!!!
sddbaker - September 14, 2010
haha. That’s awesome
GoBravesNY - September 14, 2010
Impulse buying...
at its best!
Now I have to figure out the logistics.
sddbaker - September 14, 2010
Logisitics?
As in getting to Atlanta/Turner Field? A place to stay? Etc.? You can make it work. For the final regular season game of Bobby’s career? I have faith in you!
Old Braves' Fan - September 14, 2010
Oh, I'm not worried...
I only live about 4 hours away. I’ll just have to decide whether to come down and spend the night Saturday or drive down early Sunday.
sddbaker - September 14, 2010
and royhobbs said it was sold out.
10-4 - September 14, 2010
Stubhub has a lot of seats left
ryantex - September 14, 2010
Plus, sddbaker said she bought just one ticket.
A lot of times when an event is close to selling out you can find one ticket, but attempting to buy two or more together you’ll be told that it’s “not available.”
Old Braves' Fan - September 14, 2010
Yeah...
I couldn’t find any at all for Saturday, but for Sunday I did “best available” for 1 ticket and got the Club level seat. I actually then checked for cheaper tickets by choosing Upper Box, which I like, but there were none available. I didn’t try any other categories, because I like the idea of the club level in case of rain or if it’s hot, since it’s a day game.
sddbaker - September 14, 2010
i got outfield pavillion
Row 13 and Row 25 in adjacent sections in left-center
Sir Veza - September 14, 2010
Anyone
get NLDS tickets? I got home game 2. what happens if we dont make it?
Xshare - September 14, 2010
all your proceeds are belong to me
Sir Veza - September 14, 2010
I can't confirm this...
but I believe it goes into the “Extend Jason Heyward Thru 2025 Fund.”
Scott Coleman - September 14, 2010 via mobile
all the other clubs refund the money
i’m assuming the braves do that cuz i got tickets to the 1st home game
ATLBRVS_19 - September 14, 2010
The Braves keep the money
And use it to sign a centerfielder.
Sam Jethroe - September 14, 2010
hahhhahahhaha good one
we all know that isn’t going to happen when you can get an overrated, washed-up CF from the AL.
Sir Veza - September 14, 2010
Yeah...
I have some for that game also. They will refund if the game isn’t played.
I had tickets for Game 7 of the 1995 World Series at the Ted. Of course, we won in 6. I had to send back the actual tickets for the refund, which made me mad, because they were beautiful — big 4X6 cardboard collector’s items.
sddbaker - September 14, 2010
Oh yeah....
