Atlanta Braves Fan Confidence Poll

If it's Monday, then it's the Atlanta Braves fan confidence poll. As always, this poll and therefore your confidence level should encompasses several areas of the team. These areas include, but are not limited to, the team’s ownership, current management, talent, minor-league system, and general playing ability on the field. The poll will stay open for 48 hours, and then the results will be posted and graphed against the previous weeks.

That's a lot of 6 and 7 votes... uh oh

Like Love in an Elevator.

6

the pitching staff looks tired, Heyward should be batting 3rd, and the way colorado is playing… im not so sure anymore…

Rocktember usually turns into Rocktober.

5

In my opinion this Washington series is nearly a must-sweep affair. Anything less than 2 out of 3 would be fatal to our playoff hopes.

this

we lose this series and it’s hard seeing us making the playoffs without a Phili collapse

yeah but..

even with a Philly collapse where do we stand…? i mean right now any team could just throw in a couple of lefties and a mediocre pitcher with an ERA over 5 and they would beat us easily….

6

I agree with Hektor. We look tired, still can’t hit lefties and our away record is worse than finding chuck norris under your bed.

On a positive note though

I want to applaud Bobby for putting Nate back in the line up AND batting him 6th. If I were coach I might have tried him in the line up but never so high up. But it’s been a great fit. And if Nate had any luck… he’d have a ridiculous 7 game OPS right now.

It’s worked (so far.. small sample size!) but it’s still the wrong spot in the lineup for a guy with a .190 BA and .290 OBP. Nonetheless it’s great to have some production from an outfielder not named Jason.

I voted 7 like I have the previous few weeks of crap play by the Braves. Only now that makes me one of the more optimistic votes in the poll lol. The poll recap later this week should be interesting.

I almost want the team to miss the playoffs by a game or two at this point. That would spare me the pain of watching the Braves inevitably get swept by Cincinnati or SF/Col in the first round. Plus maybe that would convince Frank Wren to stop trying to put an offense together out of 4th outfielders and 2002 Angels rejects, trade Lowe and/or Kawakami, and sign some good outfielders to go with Heyward who can hit more than 6 HRs.

In fairness to FW,

he tried during the off season to get rid of Lowe and could not get any takers. Liberty Media is the reason we don’t have a big bat in the OF. The good players come at a cost that our limited budget cannot afford.

7

We are in a decent spot to make the playoffs.

6 games left vs the Phills and the NL West beating up on eachother.

Our pitching will determine if we get into the post season. They look tired, but if they can muster up some good outings we should be able to hang in there. We all know our offense isn’t going to win it for us, especially against lefties.

Down to a 6 from my usual 7. We haven’t played good baseball on a consistent basis since before the All-Star break. I believe we are a handful of games over .500 since then as well. The team can not seem to get the hitting and pitching to show up at the same games.

I read a Jayson Stark article last week that said the post season races are not going to be exciting since teams can fall back on the Wild Card and don’t have to take as many risks. I don’t know about you guys, but I am rather sure the Braves want to win the division more than anything.

No doubt about it. Any chance the Braves have of advancing in the playoffs requires them to have home field and therefore win the division (if not best record in the NL). They are pretty lousy on the road, and need the advantage of having the deciding game in a playoff series at Turner Field.

By my calculation...

There are twenty-three trolls who have taken the poll so far (1, 2, and 3 confidence level votes).

I vote seven. While I’m growing increasingly wary of the fatigue levels our pitching staff have been showing this month, coupled with an offense that has gone cold at all the wrong times …with the occasional 12-run orgasm thrown in just to liven things up.

I’m just being an optimist at this point. We’re only a game back in the division. As others have noted before me, it would seriously behoove the Braves to win the NL East and get themselves some home field advantage in the Divisional Series, at least. If we have to open the first round in some other teams’ ballpark, you’ll see my fan confidence slip dramatically.

I'm forever confused by the reasoning people give for their votes in the FCP.

Almost to a person the reasoning relates to the Atlanta team’s chances of making the post season, or the Atlanta team’s play the past few days. But if you look at the description, those reasons should only be a portion of what the poll is actually about. Yes, the Atlanta Braves’ play recently has been a bit disappointing to me, but my confidence in the overall organization isn’t based soley on that and certainly doesn’t waver that much because of it either. Once again, as it’s been for quite a while, my vote is an 8.

totally agree with you...

BUT…. you have to realize that.. we are in the middle of a pennant race and we are playing mediocre baseball when every potential playoff team is playing great, so i don’t think anyone here, when they cast their votes are thinking about our farm or front office… everyone is focused on this next couple of weeks…. that’s why the voting is so low….

I hope you don't think I'm unware that the team is in a push for the post season?

And, “every potential playoff team is playing great?” Like the Padres that recently lost ten games in a row, gave up their huge divisional lead and only just last night gained a 1/2 game lead over the idle Giants? Or the Yankees that just lost four in a row and their divisional lead? Yeah, they’re all playing “great.”

MLB is a 162 game season; a marathon. There are good times and bad times during the season for practically every team in every season the game has been played. To go without bad stretches, whether it’s at the beginning of the season or “down the stretch,” is unlikely.

All that aside, like I said at the beginning of this thread, the big league team’s performance is only a portion of what the poll is considering. If you choose to ignore the majority of what the poll is about, that’s your choice.

This...

is simply not understood by most people, or something.

I know, I know...

I probably should have kept my mouth shut like I have for weeks, but I didn’t.

First week since we took first place that I haven't voted 10

I voted 7. Because I’m not so confident in us making the playoffs anymore, everything else about our org (future and all that) looks great. But in September the chance to make the playoffs is the most important thing.

I'm a 9

This poll isn’t about whether we make the playoffs or not. It’s about how confident I am in the orginization. I feel high confidence in the managing etc. and the players are starting to do well. (Including McLouth!) So—I sit at a nine.

If this was a postseason confidence poll—I wouldn’t have voted nine. I would’ve voted 10.

I’m down from 8 to 7. Hudson’s getting lit up like a Christmas tree and he looks tired, and we can pretty much kiss the postseason goodbye with another typical performance against the Nationals.

braves lineup tonight

Braves lineup:

1. Autosingle 2B
2. AutoOBP RF
3. Odarp 3B
4. Heap C
5. 3FB = K 1B
6. Autorobbed CF
7. Sea Bass SS
8. AutoLefty Killer LF
9. The Winnar P

Love the nickname for McLouth!

Still at 8

One game out of the best record in the NL, McLouth looking like he still has some life, that could end up as $6.5M not wasted. Freeman is getting some time playing and a few at bats, Kimbrel, Proctor and Dunn looking like they can step in next year saving millions of bullpen dollars, Minor getting some great experience, Heyward looking like the player he was advertised to be, Gonzalez coming back next year at a reasonable rate, Prado and Infante rounding out the Venezuelan connection, Beachy headed to AFL, McCann and Ross locked in for a few more years behind the plate, what’s not to like? OK, the starting pitching has shown a few cracks in the armor, but every one of them has thrown a good game lately too. As I see it, we could fold and miss the playoffs completely, or we could go on a run and win the East then make it deep into the playoffs. I like this team, I like our chances now, and I like our positioning for the future.

I couldn't agree with this more!

Looking at the results so far and seeing people voting below 5 is just ridiculous! No they haven’t been lighting things up lately but I don’t see those votes as being realistic. Way to many people really don’t take an objective look at the team as a whole IMO. 9 this week and atleast 9 for the entire year! Go Braves!

But...but...but...

…the pitching staff isn’t winning every game, the players aren’t batting where they should be, there’s a chance the team may not make the post season, other teams are playing great, the team can’t hit certain pitchers, and, oh, the sky is falling.

/end sarcasm

I’m glad there’s still fans like you guys, bighop and UpstateNyBravesFan. Love the positive points you guys make, especially the fact that the Atlanta Braves are only one game out of the best record in the NL. One game!
