Tim Hudson and the Braves go for the series victory tonight over the Cardinals at 8:05 pm EST. Hudson has been tremendous this year and Kyle Loshe has most certainly not been. The Phillies have already won against the Mets so the Braves need a victory in order to remain tied for first place. The Braves are going with a fairly normal lineup and so are the Cardinals. Let's take it to them.

For Joe Morgan saying the Phllies are sluggerz: 4.

Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 12, 2010
Timmy turning in
The kind of performance he’s capable of, at this stage of the season on a national broadcast, could really burnish his Cy case. Obviously, that’s secondary to winning and we’ll all take a DLW from him, but it would be nice to see him eat these guys up in the bargain.
Sam Jethroe - September 12, 2010
Any other year, no question Tim would get Cy Young. This year, he is in an uphill battle. I think Doc will get it. Leading in the “categories” that the voters love.
romone_braves91 - September 12, 2010
And most Sabermetric categories, too.
At least last time I looked.
Sam Jethroe - September 12, 2010
I thought Roy and Wainwright were neck to neck
in almost all of those categories.
Jaymin Patel - September 12, 2010
Last I looked
It was Roy, Adam and Tim, in that order, pretty much down the line.
Sam Jethroe - September 12, 2010
Have a look
http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/NL/2010-pitching-leaders.shtml
Those last 6 categories are what I meant by Roy doing so well in the advanced metrics. He’s got a number of traditional ones nailed down, too, so I think his case is pretty solid.
I want Tim to get some votes and if Halladay falters a bit, I still think he could pull a ’92 Maddux and sneak in.
Sam Jethroe - September 12, 2010
I want Hinske in left today....
He hits Lohse pretty well(yes, small sample size) and got arguably the biggest hit yesterdy before Gonzo’s 3-run blast.
Undocorkscrew - September 12, 2010
Hinske
Slowly but surely lost his starting spot (against RHP) in LF.

If you would have told me a week ago that Nate would be in 6 spot
I would have thought everybody was injured. Bobby had no choice.
romone_braves91 - September 12, 2010
He's responded.
Go with the hot hand.
Sam Jethroe - September 12, 2010
I’m glad Nate is hot right now. Gives me hope for the CF position in the lineup.

Woo! Finally getting around to watching some Braves baseball this weekend. Opening up the football season kinda ate my time.

Anybody watching the Green Bay vs. Eagles game. Oh my goodness Packer are about to blow this game.
romone_braves91 - September 12, 2010

A lot, earlier. Not so bad now.
romone_braves91 - September 12, 2010
Hakeem Nicks baby!
saved my FF team cause Schaub and Andre Johnson sucked for me
Anyways LeSean McCoy(also on my squad) is nasty
KINGSLYTUT - September 12, 2010
freaking Kolb is killing two of my teams. And those teams are going against Arian Foster.
romone_braves91 - September 12, 2010

this guy also has Gore, Matthews…burrr

KINGSLYTUT - September 12, 2010
Mike Vick

KINGSLYTUT - September 12, 2010

KINGSLYTUT - September 12, 2010
I agree, I thought he was going to do it.
romone_braves91 - September 12, 2010
Yup. He did.
oVecKid - September 12, 2010
Timmy
can really make a strong push for CY winning this game in dominating fashion
KINGSLYTUT - September 12, 2010
Let's do this!
Do You Remember, circa 1995.
frozendesert - September 12, 2010
Nate
I still get nervous every time McClouth comes up to bat. Even if he returns to form, the trauma of watching him during the first half of the season remains.
Asher Burk - September 12, 2010
I think that he’s secretly wearing a Pirates-branded undershirt.
frozendesert - September 12, 2010
can’t be worst than AnKKKKKKiel.
romone_braves91 - September 12, 2010
That’s true. Ankiel is only a viable option as a late inning defensive replacement or pinch runner. One think I will say is that Nate better not hesitate to throw the ball in from the outfield when the game is close. I got so sick of seeing him just stand there while a runner stretched a double into a triple.
Asher Burk - September 12, 2010
Not only is this game huge in real life...
But me making to the championship in fantasy also depends on Kyle Lohse NOT getting a W tonight.
s.r.j - September 12, 2010
you lose...
KINGSLYTUT - September 12, 2010
Somebody
in your fantasy league is starting Kyle Lohse?
frozendesert - September 12, 2010
Yeah he is the desparate streamer type. Picked up 3 random starters today.
And it’s a 14 team league
s.r.j - September 12, 2010
welp. I want you to win.
oVecKid - September 12, 2010
haha...
Yeah, I don’t think that this was a smart decision.
frozendesert - September 12, 2010
well...
He has been unsuccessful with Chris Volstad and Nelson Figueroa so far today.
s.r.j - September 12, 2010
No way?
Nelson Figueroa didn’t win against Roy Oswalt? Boy, am I surprised…
frozendesert - September 12, 2010
He actually pitched against
Carlos Monasterios today but… did not get a win nonetheless.
s.r.j - September 12, 2010
i hate ppl like that...
i almost lost last year because of that…so bury this guy…i just made the championship today despite latos’ start…
forgotten_glory - September 12, 2010
yeah its so cheap...
He’s made like 15 roster moves this week. And yeah I have Latos also and luckily he didn’t ruin my week today.

rather than the last
CalBravesFan - September 12, 2010

World Series is gonna be Yankees/Phillies!!! They’re TEH BESTEST!!!
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 12, 2010
All the kewl kidz sez so!
It must be true.
Sam Jethroe - September 12, 2010
Oh, and the 2010 Phillies are better than the 1995 Braves, because Halladay/Oswalt/Hamels is comparable to Maddux/Glavine/Smoltz, but the Phillies have the advantage because of Utley/Howard/Ibanez. I vomited in my mouth when they said that.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 12, 2010
raul ibanez???????
.775 OPS raul ibanez???????
atl192485 - September 12, 2010
Don't ask me...
That’s what they said. I’m guessing it’s because Ibanez plays for the Phillies, so he’s TEH BESTEST!!!1
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 12, 2010
I love the way
That any three man staff that’s above .500 is suddenly the new Big Three.
Sam Jethroe - September 12, 2010
Hamels=Smoltz
as
Aspirin=Morphine
But then again, I’m pretty sure that’s what Phillie fans take instead of aspirin, anyway.
frozendesert - September 12, 2010
They’ll need the morphine to numb the pain of not making the postseason.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 12, 2010
;-)
NCChopper - September 12, 2010
Nope, they need the morphine to live with themselves after they made the decision to be lifelong Philly Fans (after 2008, of course). If they don’t make the postseason, buy stock on suicide booths in Philadelphia. Or the Eagles.
frozendesert - September 12, 2010
In '12 and '13...
When they’re immersed in the same soup that the NY Mutts currently are, most of these people will be quietly slipping all thier Phileez stuff into the nearest Glad bag and taking it to the corner.

GoBravesNY - September 12, 2010

GoBravesNY - September 12, 2010

NCChopper - September 12, 2010

If it does, I’m not sure I’ll be sticking around.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 12, 2010
Dear baseball analysts who just can’t seem to stop saying that the Braves are going to need a few more runs down the stretch:
http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/batting/year/2010/seasontype/2/league/nl
And we play at Turner. And they play at my high school field.
You are welcome,

Braves24 - September 12, 2010
I seriously think, if you give Tulowitski back about 30 of the games he missed
He’d be right there in the Triple Crown hunt. Of course, the Triple Crown uses stupid numbers, anyway. Tulowitski has 20 points on CarGo in terms of OBP.
Bronn - September 12, 2010
It doesn't matter... because he missed those 30 games
SuperNewb - September 12, 2010
Yet he's still right there in terms of overall value
Check it out. Higher WAR than CarGo, he’s less than half a win behind Pujols, and his wOBA is actually higher than Pujols’. And he’s a shortstop. He’s been huge for Colorado’s resurgence in that NL West race.

royhobbs - September 12, 2010
I agree, although maybe not on golf.
GoBravesNY - September 12, 2010
I disagree, on both counts.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 12, 2010
this
Braves24 - September 12, 2010
Why? A tennis ball is going nearly 20 mph faster than a baseball, and roughly the same size
GoBravesNY - September 12, 2010
racquet = bigger than bat
atl192485 - September 12, 2010
no
its that speed when it leaves racket, it slows rapidly and u mave a much bigger hitting surface
15ks - September 12, 2010
It’s also brightly colored, and you can hit it off of a bounce….which significantly slows it down. Plus, see below.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 12, 2010
*above
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 12, 2010
Further away, plus you’re playing it on a bounce, after it has slowed down. Plus, they have to serve into a certain area or it doesn’t count at all, plus they don’t grip and can’t put the same kinds of movement on tennis balls that they do on baseballs. Plus, Tennis racquets are broad and have nets in them.
Bronn - September 12, 2010
not so sure about tennis….
atl192485 - September 12, 2010
The endurance alone to play a five set match in tennis
Not to mention reflexes and skill necessary to actually be good
royhobbs - September 12, 2010
i agree with the endurance part
but i think the argument re: hitting a baseball is that it’s the hardest skill to master
atl192485 - September 12, 2010
100 mph serve has the same reaction time as a 90 MPH fastball
Obviously people can exceed these speeds. Tennis players have an advantage with a racket as opposed to a round bat, but baseball don’t have to cover 40+ feet on a serve.
CapnKevHa - September 12, 2010
Hmm, really?
Bronn - September 12, 2010
Well, hitting the respective balls with the respective tools is easier—the racket is bigger and the golf ball isn’t moving.
But hitting them to get the intended purpose—well, that’s up for debate.
/obvious post is obvious
Ivan the Great - September 12, 2010
Look at the averages for contact. Hitting a baseball, let alone a hit, is about fifty percent. Golf and tennis you hit it with more regularity. Baseball players can’t direct it as well as a golfer or tennis player.

Jaymin Patel - September 12, 2010
No.
Ivan the Great - September 12, 2010
NO!
EricGreggWasPaidOff - September 12, 2010
Obviously not
Pujols is a free agent next year.
Bronn - September 12, 2010
ya but
what if you got him extended for 8 more years at 25 mil
Jaymin Patel - September 12, 2010
you don't give up cost-controlled players that will be/already are stars
so you can pay the premium price for current stars- see the Phillies in 3 years
leedawg - September 12, 2010
What if the Braves had an infinite source of cash for player revenue?
Then it really wouldn’t matter who I’d trade for, since if I had any problems, I could just sign the top free agents the next offseason.
I refuse to pretend that contract and financial situations don’t exist. If i had one month of Pujols now versus one month of Heyward now, I’d obviously take Pujols since he’s by far a better hitter at the moment. But the cost efficiency of Heyward over the next five years plus the fact that Pujols should be in his decline phase make Heyward superior. At some point, though, Heyward will probably become very expensive as well.

Pujols is kind of the best hitter in the league . . . at least it isnt Carpenter hitting HRs
drumzalicious - September 12, 2010

Hektor DiPaula - September 12, 2010

BeatTehMets - September 12, 2010

I should probably watch this show sometime.
Bronn - September 12, 2010
yes, yes you should
GoBravesNY - September 12, 2010
Like most things, it got crappy eventually (most recent season).
But decent enough until then.
Ivan the Great - September 12, 2010
Good show, except for last season, but I think they’re going to turn it back around this year.
Lennox - September 12, 2010
good show
watch it
Braves24 - September 12, 2010
Neil Patrick Harris should do a guest spot on NCIS sometime, since those shows are on the same network. He’d be good for something there, I think.
Bronn - September 12, 2010
He’d be good anywhere
GoBravesNY - September 12, 2010
I’m done. Good luck for the rest of the night everybody.
BullManUGA - September 12, 2010
Huddy has been up in the zone all night.

SuperHeyward - September 12, 2010
its time to pull out Huddy
joshant - September 12, 2010
Moylan?
BeatTehMets - September 12, 2010
Tim Hudson has not been the same in his past 3 starts.
If he doesn’t turn it around our season will be going down.
Also, why are there so many damn Cardinal fans in Atlanta?
BravesFanScout - September 12, 2010
I don’t get all the fans either.
BeatTehMets - September 12, 2010

DCP916 - September 12, 2010

NCChopper - September 12, 2010

why do we pitch to Pujols and Ryan Howard?
It’s retatrded. If a team has ONE guy that kills us every time we should pitch AROUND them.
sigh
BravesFTW - September 12, 2010
My thoughts exactly.
