Atlanta Braves Postseason Pace

For the rest of the season we'll keep a daily tally of the Atlanta Braves chances of making the post season, along with daily commentary. Also consider this a daily open thread for general chatting.

NL East W L PCT GB STRK Magic Num Playoff Odds
Phillies 81 60 .574 - W3 22 78.3%
Braves 80 61 .567 1 L1 23 78.9%

I guess last night was the night to get all the pitchers some work and get everyone into the game ... except J.C. Boscan. We've had two blowout games in a row, perfect opportunities to get Boscan in the game, but yet it's been Ross who spells McCann. Look, I'm not saying he's a good catcher or anything, but I at least root for the guy to get into a game. Otherwise why did we call him up?

Anyway, that's a small insignificant side story to the larger failure. If you just watched the first inning of last night's game, you might have thought that the Braves would be cruising to a victory, but then the wheels fell off for Jurrjens, and we got our buts kicked. I, like many of you, turned on some football. Sad to say.

It won't get much easier tonight when the Birds have Carpenter on the mound, and we have Mike Minor. We need Minor's best start today, not only to help us win, but to help us save the bullpen a bit.

I admit.

That once the game was 7-3…I stopped watching, as ESPN continually reminded me on the score update and scrolling scoreboard that we were getting killed…

What a promising start to such a horrendous game.

Watching our playoff odds plummet

Reminds me of that game in Colorado where we had a 98% chance of victory only to end up losing the game. Only a week or so ago, we had a 97% chance of making the playoffs…Oh how things change.

Sincerely,

Agitated in Atlanta

Playoffs!!?
“Playoffs?! Don’t talk about playoffs! Are you kidding me? Playoffs?! I’m just hoping we can win a game, another game!”
Did I hear the P-word?

f the colts

yankee scum

The team that scares me the most right now is

the Rockies! They’re are hot just like they always are in September. BUT hopefully the Rockies, Giants, and Padres will beat up on each other the next three weeks. We have got to S-word the Natinals next week.

So after a few games,

I’m not exactly sure if we’re meeting you in the WS anymore. Just beat the Twins for us if they make it there. Thanks.

To The Braves

I’m heading to tonights game.
Please make it worth the drive and skipping class.

I can't will us into the playoffs.

And I can’t will us into the world series.

But I can establish one thing: Derrek Lee’s name is spelled D-E-R-R-E-K L-E-E.

Thank you for the podium, you may have it back now.

.. Go Braves!

Anyone else watch Penn and Teller: Bullshit this summer?

“ATTENTION… CITIZENS! ATTENTION… CITIZENS!”

So it's not

D’Rick Leigh?

Why didn’t anyone speak up before?

Next you’ll probably tell me it’s not J-Sun Hayword.

September= 3-6 record = losing ground
I guess Bobby goes with this...

Infante 2
Heyward RF
Prado 3
Bmac C
Melkey LF
Gonzo SS
Freeman 1
Nate CF

I'll guess too.

Infante
Heyward
Prado
McCann
Lee
Melk Man
Hinske
Gonzo
Minor

DOB:

Braves lineup

Infante 2B
Heyward RF
Prado 3B
McCann C
Lee 1B
McLouth CF
Gonzalez SS
Cabrera LF
Minor LHP

i should hate this, its possible it goes 0fer after the 4 spot but im intrigued. ok nate, ur hitting 6th act like it

it looks like there“s a blank space between Lee and Gonzo
Of course

Because why would you change a lineup when the offense is doing so well?!

I mean, why would you want to try to return the offense to May, when we were scoring runs at will? Why would you want to put Prado back at the leadoff spot, where he also seemed to drive doubles to start the game, and where he was on fire?

I know Troy was STRUGGLING bigtime, but I wouldn’t mind seeing a new face in the lineup. Freeman is going to be great, but my expectations just aren’t that high for him this year. Expecting him to produce in a playoff run is a little to ask for him, but I’ll hope for the best. Here’s hoping I’m eating my words tonight.

I agree on Freeman

I have no doubt he’ll be great for us next year, but he’s not quite there yet. Love his D though.

We really needed Chipper
We really needed Meds
it looks like a white flag lineup
wild card?

Shouldn’t these posts include San Francisco, Colorado, and maybe San Diego in addition to Philadelphia? There’s more than one way to make the playoffs….

Nope, winning the division is our only option. The Phillies have won it long enough, time to restore order in the NL East.

Agreed

If the Braves win for Bobby, it won’t be because they snuck in the back door with some relatively new rule to help losers make it. Leave the Wild-Card to who needs it.
If the Braves want Bobby to go out in splendor—they won’t settle for anything but the division. If not, well, I won’t know what to say.

Rasmus in our OF next year please.

Give them anyone but Hanson, Teheran, and Viscaino and make it happen.

Dave O'brien Article: If Braves continue they won't see playoffs

http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-braves-blog/2010/09/10/if-braves-lackluster-play-continues-forget-playoffs/

That article was a waste of his time. Leave the “duh” stuff to bloggers and ranters.

Frank Wren

Why did he not go get a Quality Bat when He Had The Chance, mainly Because he did not want the Braves go to the Playoffs. Simple as that. Look at this team when they Face Left Handed Pitching,They Can’t hit.
