Gwinnett - Off
Mobile 0, Mississippi4
Richard Sullivan picked up the win in this game and he has really turned his season around since he moved to the bullpen in June. His ERA coming into the game as a reliever was 3.09 and he only improved upon that. Yasser Gomez picked up his first XBH in 28 ABs tonight. He has been solid at the plate so far with very little power (again just 25 ABs) but his plate discipline is well above average with a 7/1 BB/K ratio so far. Project that out over 500 ABs and that is 112 BB to 25 K. Very impressive even in a SSS.
Myrtle Beach 5, Kinston 1
Matt Crim pitched his best game of the year tonight, shutting down Kinston up to one out to go in the 9th. He struck out the first two batters in the 9th and then gave up a double and a walk and left the game in favor of Paulino. Paulino threw a wild pitch and then allowed a single that scored the only run of the game. Gerry Rodriguez did what he does best: hit the ball hard and then strike out. I really wish he could learn some plate discipline.
Savannah 3, Rome 5
Rome got their runs efficiently today with 7 total hits all of which came from different hitters. They also brought their walking shoes as 5 different guys took a free pass as well, including Joe Leonard who I constantly call for to take more walks. Carlos Perez allowed 3 runs only 1 of which was earned and he has already allowed 6 unearned runs in his first two Sally starts. David Hale also made a successful relief appearance going 4 scoreless innings.
Danville - Off
The Braves offense mustered just 2 hits in this contest though Matt Lipka and a couple of other regulars didn't play. Eduardo Castillo has been pretty solid between two levels of play this season though he isn't striking out very many batters (30K in 60 innings so far). He did hold Yankees super-prospect Gary Sanchez to just a single however so I guess that is a win.
DSL Blue Jays 6, DSL Braves 7
Aris Alcantara continues to be the best hitter on this team since Edward Salcedo left. He leads the team in doubles, walks, RBI, OBP and OPS. Felix Marte leads the team in SLG and HR and total XBH but he is striking out in about 33% of his ABs. Alcantara is my new Edison Sanchez (and Sanchez appears to be injured since he hasn't been in a game in almost a month).

If Joe Leonard can improve his patience
He could quickly become our top positional prospect (once Freeman graduates). The pre draft scouting reports I read for him all mentioned that he’s very good defensively at third base. We might even be able to fast-track him to the big leagues if we get just one more year out of Chipper Jones.

Of course
That’s a big conditional “if.” If Robinson Lopez could strike out more guys while walking fewer and giving up fewer runs, he’d be the best pitcher in our system.

although not much at baseball, Barney the purple dinosaur has an “if” song and it goes like this:
If all the raindrops were lemon drops and gumdrops
Oh what a rain that would be
Standing outside with my mouth open wide
Ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh

So, has Chipper reaffirmed...
or reneged on his earlier retirement talk? One more year really would help the team in finding a replacement since it’d give Leonard, among others, a little more time to develop.
Mr. Sanchez - August 5, 2010
He's not talking about next year at all
But I think he’s got another year in him.

Heyward4prez...just call up the Minor League sites on your search...
Gwinnett Braves…Mississippi Braves, Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Rome Braves, etc
The home page for each team has a stats selection to click & will list everyone.
Again, thank you guys for the minor league posts, it’s my favorite site everyday!
