Toledo 2, Gwinnett 1
The Braves had quite a pitcher's duel on their hands in this one with Scott Diamond pitching around trouble for most of the night. He left men in scoring position in 3 different innings and in the 6th he picked off two different runners off of first. Nate McLouth has hit 3 leadoff homers in the last week. If he had shown this kind of power with Atlanta he would have at least had some value. After his HR the Braves only had two more at bats during the game with runners in scoring position and, obviously, they didn't capitalize.
Mobile 4, Mississippi 1
Eric Cordier missed out on his bid to become a 10 game winner as he labored through 5 innings throwing 95 pitches (just 53 strikes) before exiting. Tyler Pastornicky busted out of his slump with a big game that saw him double his XBH total since joining Mississippi and pick up his first steal since July 26th. Too bad you can't steal first.
Myrtle Beach 12, Kinston 2
This game was a completion from yesterday's suspended action and the Pelicans' bats picked up right where they left off yesterday. Gerry Rodriguez just recently came back from his 50 game suspension but he is still 2nd on the team in HR behind Dan Nelson who has played in 27 more games than him. I've always liked him but he does have some pretty serious holes in his offensive game and the 50 game suspension isn't helping things either. He will need to do some serious work to get back into my good graces.
Myrtle Beach 0, Kinston 1 - 7 Innings
Apparently the Pelicans used all their offense up in the first game because there was none to be had here. That is a sad occurrence indeed since Paul Clemens was fan-freaking-tastic. We often say here that Clemens has a very good arm but he had failed to convert that talent into success. So far this year that hasn't been the case. He was solid in Rome and (according to his peripherals at least) he has been a little bit better in Myrtle Beach though just a bit unlucky. I don't know if it is the move to the bullpen full time or if something has clicked with him, but Clemens has put himself back on radar.
Savannah 4, Rome 7
Rome takes their second game from Savannah using the same philosophy as the major league club: get a bunch of men on and maybe someone will get home. Christian Bethancourt has 6 hits in his last 9 ABs and is starting to show himself to be a fairly streaky hitter. Joe Leonard continues to rack up the XBH (10 out of 21 hits in Rome) but refuses to take a walk. Chris Masters started this game well but ended up allowing 4 runs and has slowly spiraled down as the season has progressed.
Bluefield 1, Danville 4
Robert Pacheco wasn't as good as his last start but he was still good, and that was good enough. Barrett Kleinknecht and Joey Terdoslavich have had some ups and downs for Danville but both appear to be trending upwards. Kleinknecht has shown some pop, like Joe Leonard, but little aptitude for taking a walk, also like Joe Leonard. Terdoslavich has shown less power but more on base ability than BK. Both guys will be interesting cases to keep an eye on going forward. Elmer Reyes also keeps catching my eye.
GCL Phillies 1, GCL Braves 5
Matt Lipka had his first multi-hit game since July 24th. He has cooled a bit but I do love this kid. Cory Brownsten is probably a little old for the GCL but he is owning it like he should. Maybe we can catch lightening in a bottle with him.
DSL Tigers 6, DSL Braves 2
Amable Nin might be the best name in the minors right now.

Has Salcedo been playing?
I’d look, but I can never see the box scores on milb.com anymore. (weird, right?)
Scott Coleman - August 4, 2010
He just hasn’t been doing much.
cbwilk - August 4, 2010
which
is kind of disappointing. It’s not even just offensively its the amount of errors he’s been committing as well. I thought he was supposed to be really good defensively.
Guess he might have just either been over hyped or is taking a very long time to adjust
drumzalicious - August 4, 2010
Or, it could just be that he’s 18 and before June hadn’t played professional baseball.
cbwilk - August 4, 2010
Yeah, this might be the more likely choice here.
Scott Coleman - August 4, 2010
Jeez, give him a freakin’ chance. he’s got a grand total of less than 100 PA in A ball, in a totally foreign environment.

“Prospect = probability of advancement or success.”
The raw tools and want-to are there, they just need some cultivation and development which is pretty much the purpose of Low-A ball anyhow…..
Be patient.

Are you using internet explorer? I’ve had trouble with Chrome in the past not being able to see milb.com box scores. Sometimes they only pull up in explorer.

When will RSF be promoted? I know he had the hand injury that set him back but he is too old for the league.

The Braves seem pretty comfortable with Mike Jones manning first base for the Pelicans. They made a push to bring in some veterans so that team could make a playoff push and they’re 1 game out of it right now. Jones hasn’t exactly set the world on fire, but at least at the moment he’s playing better, with a .317 average and .846 OPS in his last 10 compared to .257 and .669 for RSF. It could happen, but it just doesn’t seem that likely that RSF will get a promotion.

ok thanks

Is McLouth trying to stay in AAA?
After watching McLouth at a game last week (where he hit his second leadoff homer), I’m convinced he’s unable to change anything about his game. He’s putting the same uppercut swing on everything. Home runs are great, but against AAA pitching, they don’t mean much. Fly outs and strikeouts seem to fill the rest of his at bats. That gives the Braves one expensive AAA centerfielder. (And shame on Talking Chop for putting him on the honorable mention list for last week!)

I was wondering that..
if he’s changed anything or is same old same old. Was hoping to see a lot of doubles and singles out of him, with a 300 or so avg and near 400 obp (i.e. good contact).

Went to the Mississippi Game
They really don’t have any top prospects that are in the everyday lineup. Cody Johnson played, but he didn’t impress me at all. He made contact once for a groundout, the rest were strikeouts as usual. The Pastornicky kid was pretty good, hit two solid doubles. His stolen base was third and the catcher didn’t even attempt a throw because he got such a good jump. He seemed to be a fan favorite, mainly because of his unique name. I hope he continues to develop, he definitely has some potential.

Chris Masters
“spiraling down” seems just a bit harsh. he may not be a prospect, but he’s been fairly solid: 3.51 ERA in 105 I with 94 H 39 BB 91 K
fandave - August 4, 2010
Harsh but accurate:
April: 23 IP, 1.17 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, 4.7 H/9, 3.1 BB/9
May: 34 IP, 1.59 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, 6.6 H/9, 1.6 BB/9
June: 11.1 IP, 5.56 ERA, 1.77 WHIP, 8.7 H/9, 7.1 BB/9
July: 31.1 IP, 6.03 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, 10.6 H/9, 4.3 BB/9
August 5.1 IP, 6.75 ERA, 1.88 WHIP, 15.2 H/9, 1.7 BB/9
It sucks to say, but as the summer has gone on he’s gotten terrible. These aren’t the numbers we should be seeing out of a 22 year old in Low A.
