Matt Young has been a pest for opposing pitchers all season.
Who's Hot?
- Matt Young - 8-19, 2B, 2 3B, 6 RBI, BB - Young has been a frequent member of the hot sheet, and this week he did his damage hitting lower in the Gwinnett order, with a .421 average and 1.134 OPS.
- Mike Minor - 1-0, 7 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 8 K - Minor just keeps stepping up his game, putting up his best start at AAA this week. He's experienced very little failure this year, with a 6-7 record, 3.49 ERA, and 1.15 WHIP between Mississippi and Gwinnett. With Gwinnett he has a 1.99 ERA and a 0.88 WHIP.
- Erik Cordier - 1-0, 7 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 4 BB, 10 K - Cordier has had his ups and downs this season, but his last start may have been his best, as he fanned 10 in 7 innings while only allowing 1 earned run. July was his best month, as he put up a 1.71 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP in 31.2 innings.
- Cory Harrilchak - 8-23, 4 2B, 3B, RBI, 3 BB - Harrilchak has been on fire since his re-promotion to Myrtle Beach, and he kept that up by hitting .348 with a 1.032 OPS this week. Since rejoining the team in late June, he's hit .313 with a .836 OPS in 144 at bats.
Honorable Mention: Nate McLouth, Brandon Hicks, Freddie Freeman, Barbaro Canizares, Scott Diamond, Craig Kimbrel, Steve Marek, Cristian Martinez, Gwinnett; Donell Linares, Benino Pruneda, Richard Sullivan, Jacob Thompson, Mississippi; Ty'Relle Harris, Yeliar Castro, Paul Clemens, Brett Oberholtzer, Gerry Rodriguez, Jordan Kreke, JJ Hoover, Zeke Spruill, Myrtle Beach; Phil Gosselin, Jace Whitmer, Tom Berryhill, Brett DeVall, David Hale, Robinson Lopez, Todd Cunningham, Rome; Ryan Weber, Danville
Who's Not?
- Matt Lipka - 2-20, RBI, 2 BB, 4 K, SB - He'd been hot most of July, but Lipka fell off in the last week, hitting just .100 with a horrendously low .281 OPS. If you take out this last week, he hit .405 with a .971 OPS for the month.
- Tyler Pastornicky - 2-19, 3 BB, 3 K, SB - After getting off to a hot start with his new team, Pastornicky hit a cold stretch this week, hitting just .105 with a lowly .332 OPS. He's still only 20 years old, so even if he falters at AA this year, he'll still be young for the level next year.
- Julio Teheran and Randall Delgado - 0-2, 8.2 IP, 9 ER, 12 H, 8 BB, 9 K - The Braves' top pitching prospects threw up duds this week, Teheran in his first AA start, Delgado in his second. neither made it through 5 innings, with Teheran walking 6 in his 4 innings.
- Edward Salcedo - 4-20, 2B, 2 BB, 3 K, SB - It's been a tough transition to playing in the states for Salcedo, as he's hit just .218 with a .634 OPS in 25 games for Rome, striking out in 28% of his at bats. He hit a low this week, with a .200 average and a .522 OPS.
Dishonorable Mention: Jose Ortegano, Todd Redmond, Gwinnett; Yasser Gomez, Jordan Schaffer, Jesus Sucre, Jaye Chapman, Kyle Cofield, Mississippi; Luis Sumoza, Cole Miles, Braeden Schlehuber, Myke Jones, Myrtle Beach; Jake Hanson, Todd Cunningham, Joe Leonard, Wilton Estevez, Romer; David Rohm, Jason Mowry, Andrelton Simmons, Danville
HAhaHAha Nate McLouth lol

Do I need to make a "Haters ♥ Me" picture
for Mike Minor. All the haters, and he keeps on performing at the highest levels in the minors.
Scott Coleman - August 2, 2010
Minor has haters?
MBL1 - August 2, 2010
He’s had haters since Day 1.
Scouts bashing the Braves for making the “safe pick” because Minor had a very low ceiling, but a good chance to make it to the Majors.
Scouts saying he could only be a low-end #3 or high-#4 in the Bigs.
He didn’t throw hard enough or locate well enough to be a dominate starter.
He’s now one of the best left-handed pitching prospects in baseball.
Scott Coleman - August 2, 2010
GO MINOR!
Honestly, I’ve never seen anyone criticize him on here. He’s a very good prospect and I expect to see him in Atlanta by next year.
MBL1 - August 2, 2010
It was mainly scouts. Some people on here were upset that the Braves didn’t go for a risk-reward guy at 8, but yeah, most people were OK with it on TC.
Scott Coleman - August 2, 2010
Not true...
most were pissed we didn’ take Matzek or another high upside high school pitcher. Some were OK with it, some liked it, but there was a very vocal contingent that said the pick sucked.
Mr. Sanchez - August 2, 2010
Ah, I guess so. I don’t really remember.
Scott Coleman - August 2, 2010
to be fair, if you had said Minor would add a couple ticks of velocity as well as ditching either the slider or curveball (i can never remember which) which would in turn improve the effectiveness of his other pitches back during draft day, he would’ve easily been a consensus top 10 talent. Mike Minor has turned himself into a great prospect to have but this is not the exact same guy we took out of vanderbilt
McCann's the Man - August 2, 2010
I wasn’t one of his haters…until I tried to talk to him back in June…
cbwilk - August 2, 2010
Again with the vague accusations. I really don’t care to hear the story but either get on with it or stop referring to it with no details. It’s getting kinda old. If you’ve already shared and I missed it, sorry.
ajones2522 - August 2, 2010
No. I will continue my vague “accusations”.
cbwilk - August 2, 2010
Fantastic. Things like this are exactly why athletes have good reason not to trust people like you who come up to them after games. Minor deserves better than this and so do Braves fans who get their info from this site.
ajones2522 - August 2, 2010
You have no idea what you’re talking about.
cbwilk - August 2, 2010
You’re right, I have no idea why you continue to want to bash Mike Minor over an event you obviously aren’t going to share with us. I just think it’s pointless at best that you keep bringing it up. What are we gaining? I guess I should have taken everyone else’s approach and ignored it.
ajones2522 - August 2, 2010
The extent of my “bashing” is saying I’m not a fan anymore. Yeah, I’m really hard on the guy. So hard that I put him number 2 on this list and talked up his performance this year.
cbwilk - August 2, 2010
We get it. You don’t like him. Why do you feel the need to bring it up anytime his name is mentioned though? You aren’t even giving us any new information. It’s just getting old.
ajones2522 - August 2, 2010
Whatever man. I don’t owe you anything. If I feel like posting it, then I will. Sorry if that bothers you. But not really.
cbwilk - August 2, 2010
I guess I have to say it one more time. I don’t give a crap about your story. Just stop referring to it like it actually means something. Vague rumors like this are what give blogs bad reputations. I’m guessing it’s nothing significant enough to form an actual opinion on or you probably would have already posted it already.
ajones2522 - August 2, 2010
Guess away chief. For something you don’t care about you’re giving it an awful lot of your time.
cbwilk - August 3, 2010
I'll ask a different question
Okay, we understand your experience with Minor was less than optimal. Is it something that we should be concerned with – i.e., do you think his attitude could hinder his ability to be a good fit in a MLB clubhouse? I’ll hang up and listen to your answer…
buzzdeadwax - August 2, 2010
Yes. From what I’ve seen and heard, his teammates don’t like him.
cbwilk - August 2, 2010
That should change in Atlanta.
Scott Coleman - August 3, 2010
Putting two and two together on it...
seemslike Minor was among those who ignored a fellow human trying to speak with them from the stands. I’ve read your thoughts on that sort of dealing a few times now, is there more to it than that? Not asking for specifics mind you, just if my math is adding in the right direction.
Mr. Sanchez - August 2, 2010
To be honest
I did not like the Minor pick because of what I saw from him at Vandy. His mechanics were jacked up, his velocity was 88-90 and he was a FB pitcher. But now Minor has tweaked his mechanics, added 3-4 mph on his FB, he’s getting more ground balls and he’s pounding the strike zone again as well. So this Mike Minor and the Mike Minor we drafted are different players lol!
Jay212033 - August 2, 2010
This
buzzdeadwax - August 2, 2010
I’m convinced that he gets better as he goes up because the D is better.
Pavy848 - August 2, 2010
Can Jace Whitmer do the same thing to the Carolina League that Tyler Flowers did?
bwellnjonesco - August 2, 2010
I kind of doubt it. He’s not really in the same class as Flow. He’s a big strong kid, but it just doesn’t seem like they’re willing to give him enough ABs to make any impact/improvements.
cbwilk - August 2, 2010
Great to see Matt Young at the top of your list...
I just hope he can get a chance at the major league level. With the decline of homeruns in baseball, players that can get on and score runs like Matt Young should be more and more valuable. I guess his defense must hold him back because his batting and baserunning stats look good.
JimH - August 2, 2010
I don’t post here often, but i just wanted to say thanks, and how much I loveee these minor league reports and recaps and what-not, i’ve never followed the minors before untill i found TC, and now i read religiously and cant get enough. Just wanted to say keep up the good work CBwilk, yondamie, and all involved, its very appreciated!
P.S. – we dont need to “honorobly mention” Nate McLouth …. maybe in a few weeks if he somehow figures things out
PhillyBrave - August 2, 2010
me too...
first thing i read every morning…ML report first, NYT next…
gotta get your priorities straight…thanks to all who produce them.
blazon - August 2, 2010
I agree
The minor league coverage is awesome. Thanks to all that contribute to making it happen.
JimH - August 2, 2010
Teheran and Delgado had tough first starts in AA, but they will turn it around.
Braves24 - August 2, 2010
I completely agree. Delgado fanning 6 in 4 innings was a great sign.
cbwilk - August 2, 2010
And for what it’s worth I completely agree with both of you. Both just need a little adjustment time, and it won’t take long.
rbravesfan - August 2, 2010
hey??!!
Did I somehow miss Brandon Beachy?? I know they piggybacked him with a couple of major league rehab starters in his last outing(s), and he makes his first start in AAA tonight at Gwinnett but he keeps falling under everyone’s radar. He’s pretty impressive.
rbravesfan - August 2, 2010
If he’s starting tonight then he’ll probably get 2 this week and have a good chance to be on the Who’s Hot side next Monday.
