A crazy day here at Talking Chop! In light of all the craziness we have had what may be the busiest day in the history of our wonderful little (BIG?) site. As I start writing this post we are about 150 visits from hitting 30,000 in one day which is about 10,000 more than any day in the past month (including the trade deadline). So I just wanted to thank everyone who visits Talking Chop for helping us grow and show support to the Braves!
Gwinnett - Off
Mississippi 7, Tennessee 6 - 10 Innings
The AA squad did their best road imitation of the big club tonight knocking in the winning run in extras. Julio Teheran fell off the wagon in this one by surrendering 5 walks for the second time in his stint with Mississippi. He had a few good games in a row but don't be surprised when he has some more growing pains. Jordan Schafer was 0-3 with a K in this one.
Myrtle Beach 4, Lynchburg 2
Paul Clemens continued his rise to respectable prospect with yet another solid outing for the Pelicans. He gave up 6 runs in his last outing but other than that he has allowed 2 runs or less in his last 10 appearances. One interesting development is he has been better as a starter this season. In 23 innings starting he has posted a 1.52 ERA vs 4.64 as a reliever. Scouts have said Clemens has one of the best arms in the organization and if he is truly harnessing that arm he could be another the long line of pitching for the Braves. Also, isn't that just a stereotypical line from Cody Johnson up there?
Rome 2, Charleston 0
At one point in this game the Braves pitchers set down 17 straight Riverdogs hitters. Willie Kempf and Steve Kent were flat out dominant with both guys striking out the side once. Kent has been filthy all season long with 42 K in 27.1 innings this season. He is allowing more runs as the season goes on but his peripherals are actually getting better with improved H/9, BB/9 and K/9 in each month (SSS warning).
Danville Braves - Off
GCL Braves
Rain washed out a double header with the Tigers today.
DSL Braves @ DSL Tigers

bwellnjonesco - August 19, 2010
wait a second
I thought Schafer was injured?
Braves24 - August 19, 2010
he took a few games off and supposedly the wrist still hurts but he is playing.
yondaime4 - August 19, 2010
Dumbass.

yea
Braves24 - August 19, 2010
If he's rebuilding strength...
and doesn’t have any further damage, why say that? If he’s damaged things further and isn’t resting, I’d agree, but we’ve had nothing to say he’s doing more damage to the wrist besides working out soreness or scare tissue and rebuilding strength.
Mr. Sanchez - August 19, 2010
ok thanks.
Braves24 - August 19, 2010
im feeling really bad with Hicks?
how many times he“ve been called up and days or weeks later he was back to AAA?
joshant - August 19, 2010
enough to earn the appellation "human yo-yo"

Has anyone ever checked Cody Johnson's vission?
I mean….can he even see the ball? Or is he just uppercutting when he hears the pitchers lead foot plant?
ATLandUNC - August 19, 2010
I certainly understand your wanting to find a solution to his problems, but I think it’s getting close to the time where everyone is going to have to admit that Johnson may have topped out already and he’ll never play professionally beyond AA ball.
Zontar - August 19, 2010
yes, this is very totally obvious. after all, he just had his 22nd birthday (yesterday, in fact) and so there is little chance at all that he will ever be able learn anything more about how to play baseball than he already knows.

Ryan Howard
Reached the ML at 25 so he has plenty time to still learn.
Jay212033 - August 19, 2010
This. When Ryan Howard was 21 he was playing short season, basically the equivalent of Danville, because he started the year in college. He didn’t play AA until he was 24.

Kent
I can remember when we signed him he was highly regarded but several injuries and TJ surgery has cut short his past 3 seasons but now he’s healthy and flat out dominant. Hopefully they’ll move him back in the rotation next season.

This

Carlos Perez
He hasn’t pitch in a while, hopefully the Braves are just limiting his innings and there isn’t any injury to worry about.
Jay212033 - August 19, 2010
reports say he went in for his cyborg enhancements. The integration time is usually 2-3 weeks.
yondaime4 - August 19, 2010
Just a question geez.
