Everyone seems to be in a chatty mood tonight, so because there's no Atlanta Braves game we'll throw up the ol' minor league open thread. The Gwinnett Braves game will be televised on CSS if you're a Comcast customer. Feel free to also discuss any other sporting news of the night, as if there's anything else going on that we're not all sick and tired of. Here's a great post that points out the absurdity of it all, and should be way up there in the search page rankings.

Teheran was a late scratch for this start against Winston-Salem since he’ll be tossing in the Futures Game on Sunday. The Braves didn’t want Teheran to throw tonight, then fly to Anaheim and pitch again on two day’s rest. He’ll be back after the break.
fattums182 - July 8, 2010
dang
i was hoping to watch him tonight… still havent seen him pitch live yet

this is hilarious
telemakhos - July 8, 2010
Lots of interesting pitchers tonight
Redmond, Diamond, Rasmus all throwing tonight. Diamond, I’ve came to the conlusion is simply hittable. He’s given up an insane amount of hits in his MiLB career. I like Rasmus, a lot, probably more than most. He’s got a ton of potential, in my opinion. One of our more under-rated prospects.
BenDuronio - July 8, 2010
LeBron throwing for the LeBron LeBron’s tonight at LeBron. Looks like a good LeBroning match-up.
Bronn - July 8, 2010
Rasmus used to have a ton of potential. I haven’t heard a real ruling on him since all the injuries, but word was that his velocity was down from the injuries.
telemakhos - July 8, 2010
Jordan Schafer
I just saw Schafer get thrown out trying to steal second. His comeback has been pretty depressing so far. I hope he gets his timing back at some point.
JimH - July 8, 2010
I feel his wrist is still giving him problems.
I noticed him shaking his wrist after throwing a ball into third from the outfield, minutes ago.
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
yeah, i saw that too
Bravely going forward - July 8, 2010
Redmond
getting hit hard tonight, 8 hits, 4 walks and 6 runs in 4 innings.
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
did you see that throw logan just made? wow, the throwing arm’s certainly looking strong;
Bravely going forward - July 8, 2010
Great throw
but they showed him shaking his wrist, that was concerning.
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
Looks like we need to hope McLouth recovers...
or Melky can at least become his high avg, decent D self from the Yankees.
Mr. Sanchez - July 8, 2010
Yes,
It’s looking that way for sure.
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
He really did set himself back by attempting to play throw a broken wrist last year. It still makes me wince to imagine holding a bat and making contact with a bum wrist. His career is going to take some time to recover-he’s got to get strength back in that joint and he’s got to work out the bad habits.
Sometimes, when you get used to pain when you do something, your muscle memory guards against that pain. It’s like if you sprain an ankle playing basketball (been there). Even when the ankle recovers, you’re still favoring it a little bit and you come down heavier on the opposite ankle. It takes effort to come back from those things.
I hope Jordan can overcome it.
Bronn - July 8, 2010
I am honestly suprised to see him playing.
He said in ST it was still hurting and he was no where near ready to come back.
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
*suprised
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
Fail
I give up! lol
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
FF looks nice
Mr. Sanchez - July 8, 2010
I agree
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
I wish I had CSS
Oh well. After a couple of rough games for Freeman, looks like he’s back on track a bit.
Bronn - July 8, 2010
I love being able to watch them on CSS
They were also on MLBN yesterday.
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
do you mean for the rest of this year, or in terms of logan’s long-term value?
Bravely going forward - July 8, 2010
I mean as far as playing CF next year...
and possibly his long term value if it’s not healing properly.
Mr. Sanchez - July 8, 2010
Oh, and I'm glad Jordan no longer does Braves games.
Mr. Sanchez - July 8, 2010
he’s no chip, lol
Bravely going forward - July 8, 2010
Gotta agree!
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
LeBron
Jeez, now Jordan is talking about him. I’m heard enough for a lifetime about him.
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
Well, I know what I'm doing at 9:00
[watching the paintball Community]
Mr. Sanchez - July 8, 2010
"The Decision" airs at 9 pm
I’m purposely not watching it. I’m actually curious about where he’ll go, but I’m content to just read about it later. Or tomorrow, even. It doesn’t affect me immediately enough to need to know instantly.
To spite LeBron, I plan on watching a Burn Notice rerun while DVRing something completely different while LeBron is on TV. I have at least two things I care about more than watching this side-show.
Bronn - July 8, 2010
Haha
I’ve got the Phils and Reds going also. Votto hit a HR for the Reds only run, but then made an error at first allowing the Phils to score a run.
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
Mississippi scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first
Mississippi is depressing because we don’t have any true prospects on that team. When they do well, it’s like “eh, good for them.”
Bronn - July 8, 2010
Salcedo is 2-2 with a double
and just like that, the average is up to .250.
Bronn - July 8, 2010
sweet.
Bravely going forward - July 8, 2010
Now 3-3 with a double and a triple, 3 RBI, and up to .280
Mr. Sanchez - July 8, 2010
It was S-W-E-E-T !!!! Rome rocked it tonight.
rbravesfan - July 8, 2010
Anyone find the box score for the DSL game?
It keeps coming up as a broken link whenever I try to view it. I’m at least marginally interested in who pitched that game. We’ve got a couple of 16-17 year olds on that roster who are really interesting.
Bronn - July 8, 2010
Yeah, I got it...
thoughts overall, agree on Mississippi doing well, with no one of real note as a prospect. Nice game by Spruill back in Myrtle, and maybe Joe Leonard can go ahead to Rome.
But DSL notable…
It went 14, lost 5-4.
Gerardo Reyes went 2-3.
Hector Garcia went 2-6, 3 runs, with a HR.
Eduardo Castilla started, 6 innings, 7 hits, 3 runs, 0 bb, 4 k
Enrique Medina came in for 4 scoreless innings, no hits, no k, 1 bb
Mr. Sanchez - July 8, 2010
Oh, and GCL played two...
William Beckwith had a big day at the plate, and both he and Edison Sanchez had HR.
Mr. Sanchez - July 8, 2010
Thurston doubles
for his second hit tonight. I was impressed by his play in ST, and was hoping he would get the call over Hicks, nothing against Hicks, just sayin’.
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
Martinez
has looked good coming in from the BP.
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
Pinch hitter for Schafer
That was interesting the speculation over why they pinch hit for Schafer. It makes me wonder what is going to happen why McClouth goes to Gwinnett. They keep bringing in these base stealing outfielders. Josh Anderson was signed and now Taveras.
JimH - July 8, 2010
I hating to hear them talking about Schafer not hustling in a recent game. That is literally the least he can do right now.
JimH - July 8, 2010
And Carlos Perez was pulled early
hope not for a bad reason.
Mr. Sanchez - July 8, 2010
Schafer
was shaking his wrist in the outfield after making a strong throw in. It looked as if it was hurting him, then he came out of the game. I don’t see him making it up to ATL this season.
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
Taveras
was So much fun to watch run and steal bases in the game this week on MLBN. I know he has his downfalls, but his speed is So exciting to see.
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
So apparently
Ryan Madson just threw a wild pitch that was so wild it allowed a man to score from second?
Bronn - July 8, 2010
Rome is breaking out the bats
10-4, now, apparently in the top of the 7th. Notables:
Salcedo: 3-3, 2B, 3B, 2R, 3 RBI, .280.
Cunningham: 2-4, R, RBI
Kreke: 2-4, 2 2Bs, R, RBI.
Bronn - July 8, 2010
Phils take the lead 3-2 in the 8th
on a Rollins sac fly, now Dictorino batting with 2 out.
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
LeBron joins the Heat.
This has been your “I’m sick of hearing about this!” moment of the day
MBL1 - July 8, 2010 via mobile
Le who?
you mean the evil French twin of TC user Bronn?
atl192485 - July 8, 2010
He's actually my evil twin
My taller, darker skinned, better looking, more athletic, more skilled, richer, evil twin. But hey, at least I went to college.
Bronn - July 8, 2010
btw
you and lebron’s long-lost father is looking for you guys
atl192485 - July 8, 2010
Go Reds
9th, runners on 1st and 2nd, 0 outs!!
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
hope the reds can finally come through
they have two opportunities with runner on 3rd and 1 out, and couldn’t score both times
atl192485 - July 8, 2010
just when i type that
double play :(
atl192485 - July 8, 2010
Bruce hits into DP
Cairo up with 2 outs.
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
Tie game!
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
Reds staying alive here in the 9th!
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
Is Matt Young the shortest player in the minor or major leagues?
Sure looks to be.
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
He’s no Rafael Belliard.
Bronn - July 8, 2010
Who’s no David Eckstein
GoBravesNY - July 8, 2010
I don’t know if he’s gritty and grimy and heart-filled enough to be David Eckstein.
Bronn - July 8, 2010
Does anyone know if he is related to the Matt Young
that pitched for this teams Mariners/RedSox/Dodgers/Athletics/Indians 1983-1993?
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
*these
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
I really doubt it
but I can’t say with any certainty. There’s almost no way he’s that Matt Young’s son since he was born in Texas, but the elder Matt Young came up as a member of the Seattle organization.
Bronn - July 8, 2010
Also,
I noticed the former Matt Young was a big/tall dude, this young one would have to have a very short/ petite Mom, if indeed this is his Dad:)
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
anybody watching reds-phils?
noone can get a bunt down. no fundamentals at all.
atl192485 - July 8, 2010
Me
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
Me too
SuperNewb - July 8, 2010
This game is damn nigh unwatchable.
DogDaysofSummer - July 8, 2010
ANYBODY HOOOOME?!?!??!
SuperNewb - July 8, 2010
Reds lost :(
HEYJUDE - July 8, 2010
Werth
Dropped a high volume f bomb on a dad in the crowd for catching a foul ball that he was reaching into the stands for. With the fan’s kid (10 yo, give or take a year or two) right there beside him.
I normally ignore most anything that comes out of Millar’s yap but he lit him up pretty strongly on MLB Net.
