Talking Chop commenter SuperNewb talking about last night's win in the game recap:
The win also makes us 14-14 against the NL East
Important in a division in which everybody is playing everybody tough, right now:
vs East
Braves 14-14
Mets 18-18
Phillies 15-16
Marlins 17-16
Nats 15-15
Very nice observation, and an amazing look at what has to be the toughest division in baseball (at least they play each other like they're the toughest).
To add to this, I really like that the Nationals are getting better and are no longer the door mats of the NL East. This makes every game exciting, and it has really created new rivalries for the Braves with every team in division. Note that Atlanta has to play the rest of the division more than any other team in the division does.

Just got to checking TC and saw this comment… was wondering what you did… then I saw the post below it.
SuperNewb - July 7, 2010
Considering the 4-10 start inside the division, this is even more encouraging. Go Bravos!
CharlotteChop - July 7, 2010
Yeah...
I was reading these exact stats somewhere yesterday.
sddbaker - July 7, 2010
Here it is....
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/joe_lemire/07/06/nl.east/
Note that this guy still picks the Phillies to win the division, and gets in a dig at Omar being an “undeserving” All-Star.
sddbaker - July 7, 2010
What a douche

"Aces in training JA Happ and Jon Niese"
Hahahhahahahah!
Scott Coleman - July 7, 2010 via mobile
Even worse
“the Mets’ co-aces of Johan Santana and Mike Pelfrey”
If this writer thinks Mike Pelfrey is an “ace” he should find a new job.
buzzdeadwax - July 7, 2010
He also mentions how bad Melky and McLouth have been, but fails to recognize Eric Hinske has been a monster in the OF and how well Gregor Blanco has played in his two week stint while Heyward is injured.
Scott Coleman - July 7, 2010
yep

Fear the Nats.
No joke. Sometimes I dread facing them more than the Mets or Phils. They always seem to be a thorn in the Braves side.
adc62 - July 7, 2010
I fear the Nats in DC, but they’re not much on the road against us.
Scott Coleman - July 7, 2010
Nats aren’t much on the road against anyone right now. Still, .500 within the division would be major, major progress for the Nats and is a good secondary goal for us. Nats were 25-47 within the division, aka .347 ball, even worse than the .364 pace that got them to a whopping 59 wins.
souldrummer - July 7, 2010
yeah
without looking at numbers, it’s a franchise I remember the Braves struggling against for quite a while.
VivaLosBravos - July 7, 2010
I agree
It seems they always play well against us.
HEYJUDE - July 7, 2010
AL East toughest in bball
not even close
Nintendo vs Sega - July 7, 2010
So you fear the Orioles, do you?
gondeee - July 7, 2010
The Rays, Sox and even Blue Jays would all probably be in 1st place if they were in a different division. The Orioles suck, but that division is still the best.
Scott Coleman - July 7, 2010 via mobile
Wow…I shouldn’t post from my phone. The Rays and Sox would be in 1st in any other division and the Blue Jays would be in 2nd or 3rd. They’re a solid club, but in the wrong division. The orioles do suck though.
Scott Coleman - July 7, 2010 via mobile
You're not necessarily wrong
If the Jays play a few games against the Pirates instead of the Sox, Rays, or Yankees, they might have a better record.
buzzdeadwax - July 7, 2010
I have to agree
AL east is the best division in baseball. Not the most balanced from top to bottom, but 1-4, tough as hell
Frozen Fan - July 7, 2010
Seriously!
God knows Shawn Marcum is some kind of ace!
MichaelProcton - July 8, 2010
Other interesting tidbits
The braves play 74 games after the all-star break. 40 of those games are in the division. 24 of the 40 are against the Marlins and Nationals (12 each).
fphjr01 - July 7, 2010
Would rather have the Nationals playing bad.
taney71 - July 7, 2010
Nats could go either way after the break. Jordan Zimmermann, Ross Detwiler and the rest could shore up the back of their rotation and make them competitive. Selling Dunn and/or Capps could decimate them offensively and restore the bullpen adventures of last year. Braves showing that they can handle Strasburg makes them a feared divsional foe. I really do believe the Braves are going to win the division barring additional injuries or a major splash from the Mets.
souldrummer - July 7, 2010
AHHHHH I WIN!!!
SuperNewb - July 7, 2010
Melky Cabrera is 3rd on our team in hits
What?
Scott Coleman - July 7, 2010

SuperNewb - July 7, 2010
