Braves Bash Brewers 11-6 Behind BMac

The Braves really needed to start hitting and they did exactly that on Sunday afternoon. After losing consecutive home games for the first time since April 21st and 22nd, Atlanta came up big with 11 runs and ensured themselves a victory.

Derek Lowe started for the Braves and was pretty good, but struggled in the 5th inning. He ended up going 5 and 1/3 innings and got his 10th win of the season. Manny Parra actually out-lasted Lowe, but gave up 10 runs on 10 hits. It's about time we started to hit left-handed pitching.

Rickie Weeks led off the game with a solo-HR to put the Brew Crew on the board first. Weeks also hit another solo-HR in the 6th inning.

The Braves came right back in the 2nd inning on an RBI-double from Matt Diaz to tie the game up. Melky Cabrera then chopped one a few feet away from home plate, but it was enough to score Diaz to 3rd.

With a 2-1 lead, the Braves broke it open in the 3rd. Omar Infante drove in Martin Prado to make it 3-1, and then Brian McCann came up with the big hit of the game. On an 0-2 pitch, BMac ripped a ball to the right field seats for a grand slam. The slam was the 6th of McCann's career.

Matty Diaz continued to destroy any and all left-handed inning in the 5th when he hit a solo-HR to left field, his 2nd in as many games. He's going to have a huge 2nd half folks. I can feel it.

After the Brewers got the score to 8-3 in the 6th, the Braves answered right back. Omar Infante singled up the middle to drive in a run and BMac walked to score a run as well. Matty Diaz came up big once again with an RBI-single to CF.

The Braves entered the final innings up 11-3 and gave up a few meaningless runs. Jesse Chavez was unable to end the game by himself which forced Bobby to bring in Billy Wagner in, but Wags had no trouble retiring Prince Fielder and Casey McGehee.

Braves win 11-6. A much needed win as we prepare for a big 3-game series against the NL's 2nd best team: the San Diego Padres.

MVP:

Brian "McVP" McCann - 2-for-4, Grand Slam, 5RBI,

LVP:

Manny Parra - 5.1IP, 10H, 10ER, 2BB, 2K,

The Mets are currently winning a close game in San Francisco and the Phillies play tonight, so we'll be able to follow both games knowing we've already taken care of business.

All-in-all, the Braves should've won the series, but the Brewers have a good offense that can score some runs. As long as we win 2 against the Padres, it should be seen as a successful home stand.

You forget to mention Yunel’s grand slam today.

…..He was due.

Interestingly enough,

that was the Brew Crew’s first GS this year. Interesting, considering that they lead the league in HRs…

I'm thoroughly confused by this statement.
My bad

that should say Blue Jays’!

Do the Blue Jays lead the AL in HRs?

I honestly have no idea about American League stuff.

You forgot

That this is the braves recap game thread. You might find better luck here: http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/

I want Hickman’s job. Dude should be living under an overpass, somewhere.

You would here 49 less “And, you know’s” per session.

Good Game,

Bad Series.

We still haven’t lost a Series at home since April.

and havent lost a series against NL team since may 9 (against Phillies)
We've

been pampered, I guess. It’s great when you’re absolutely disappointed when your team ‘only’ splits a series.

You said it. 8 )))
im agree with you. This series make me feel like the WSox series

but we have look the positive side nor the negative

True

But at least they ended it this way. I’d much rather have this than winning the first two games and losing the last two. At least now we have some momentum going against the Padres on Tuesday.

we hit the 1st GS against Parra on May 10. it was Prado GS.

After that this team start to hit. That was after we lost the series against Phillies (the last agaisnt NL team).
Now, we hit another GS against Parra again, maybe we will start to hit again.

The

Rise of the Glausosaur.

giants tied it up 3-3!

I love K-Rod.

me too

Ah…heading to the 10th.

these umps are horrible

lets hope this game goes 20+

Angel Hernandez

Had better step his game, umm…up. Phil Cuzzi is rapidly surpassing him as The Sorriest Dildo In Umpiredomâ„¢

That last play, by Sea Bass, was very very nice

in fact

you could say that it was a

slick finish

Escobar hit a Grand Slam today and went 3-4. Gonzalez 0-4, nice Frank Wren you suck.

/sarcasm. before you kill me

Yunel

I don’t think he was going to do it for us…just one of those guys who doesn’t respond to Bobby or who got into a groove of bad habits. I hope the change of uni for Yunel is just what he needs.

Too bad he couldn’t do that against any of the NL pitching for half a season. :-p

I wish him luck, I honestly do, but looking forward to when we don’t discuss him every day.

do you honestly think there will be a point where we dont discuss Yunel, especially if he does well (which he msot likely will, but that wasnt why we dealt him so it doesnt matter)

No...

just like Tex, Wainwright, etc. Some deals never die.

i didnt want to actually mention the names for fear of controversy and cities burning in rage…but ya

Maybe next year...

if Esco struggles in August and September, and Sea Bass makes some big plays in the playoffs on the way to a World Series. Maybe then it could be quietted, but otherwise, I’m seeing someone chime in pretty much anytime Yunel does something remotely decent.

Pretty awesome game

Also, Diaz and Infante could be contenders for MVP title.

Man,

it is SO nice to see the Hittin’ Fool hittin’ again. He’s a huge help to our team when he’s smacking lefties like he can. Now if we could just get some production out of CF…

I think the solution there

Could be Blanco. Also, I have hopes (I dno why), that once McLouth gets back he’s going to tear it up.

I don't think McLouth will tear it up when he gets back

But I have faith that he’ll go something like .250/.340/.430

Well

By tear it up, I mean do a hell of a lot better before he got destroyed by Heyward.

Nice win today.

Now we have to take care of business against the Padres. Hopefully our bats can carry over some of the momentum from this game and beat up on the tough Padre pitchers.

Phils lost, Mets won, so we’re back to 5.0 games up in the division (over NY, and 5.5 over PHI). This was an underwhelming series overall, but no damage was really done.

They both actually lost ground on us in this series, so not only was damage not done, progress was made.

Not to mention that the Mets should have acutally lost yesterday. Thanks Phil Cuzzi!

Dude was easily safe.

Fanhouse had a great picture of the play. The link is off to the side, i’m too lazy to link it here.

Diaz

is on FIRE lately. There’s your RH outfield bat, folks!

Tried telling people that for weeks

But do they listen?

i just noticed all the B’s, haha

That’s just a lot of alliteration after the fact. Good catch!

interesting fact

not only are prado and gonzo from venezuela, they happen to be from the same tiny venezuelan state. no wonder gonzo said he already knew him from back home.

just to put it in perspective, the only u.s. states smaller than aragua are rhode island and delaware.

Delaware.

Hi. I’m in Delaware.

That explains so much.

Wayne’s World man! Get with it!

that’s cool

In one of the games over the weekend, ...

I can’t recall which announcers, but they said Gonzalez lives about 10 minutes outside of Maracay (where Prado is from).

Good game

It was about time we hit some left handed pitching.

Really good to see Diaz coming back to what we know he can do. I just hope the FO doesn’t feel pressured to make a move for an RH hitter still. I still think we can do with a CF though.

Maybe this week coming let Nate play in the bigs and see how he does.

Ba-da-da-da-da I’m lovin’ it.

MVHS

Those guys at the Brewers blog are freakin’ idiots. BTW, which SBN blog is bigger than Talking Chop.

Yes, I’m aware.

And that would be the Mariners blog, believe it or not, but most of that has to do with their tie-ins to Fangraphs.

Also,

Just to clarify, Fielder get’s hit because he’s wider back to front more than most guys are left to right, and because he weighs the same amount as a juvenile blue whale.

Absolutely LOVELY win to split the series.

I’m glad to see Hart and Fielder leave the Ted. Enough of those two.
Lowe did good and even got a Hit!
Hopefully, that decisive win cleansed the pallet of the other 2 losses and we can be ready for the Padres on Tuesday.

This won’t be a gimme series, that’s for sure.
