Gwinnett 8, Buffalo 7
Todd Redmond had a great start, but the bullpen blew the win for him, with Scott Proctor and Craig Kimbrel, who walked 4 in 0.2 innings, allowing 5 runs in the 9th. But Jordan Schafer sealed the victory for the G-Braves, driving in Joe Thurston on a double in the top of the 10th. Nate McLouth made his 4th rehab appearance and he's gone 5-17 with a homer and 2 steals in those games.
Mississippi 4, Huntsville 5
In his last start, Brandon Beachy struck out a career high 11, but he topped that tonight, fanning 13 Huntsville batters. His numbers for the year are fantastic, with a 1.18 ERA, a 0.99 WHIP, 12.2 K/9, and 4.6 K/BB in 68.2 innings, and he's been even better as a starter, with a 0.90 ERA, a 0.73 WHIP, 13.2 K/9 and 7.3 K/BB in 30 innings. And he even added an RBI double tonight. Jesus Sucre made 2 errors tonight, but he did continue his hotting hitting, extending his hitting streak to 7 games, going 12-37 in that span.
Myrtle Beach 6, Lynchburg 0
Matt Crim had given up 14 earned runs in his last 2 starts, but tonight he shutout the Hillcats over seven frames. He's been inconsistent this year but when he's on he's as talented as any pitcher in they organization. Braeden Schlehuber made his debut with the Pelicans tonight, collecting a single in 3 at bats. He was the Braves' 4th round selection in 08 and was said to be an offense first catcher, but in 703 Minor League plate appearances prior to tonight he's hit just .218 with a woeful .588 OPS. After his hot stretch to start his Myrtle Beach career, Myke Jones hit a roadbump, going hitless in 6 straight games, but in his last 2 he's gonge 4-8 with a double and a homer.
Rome 9, Hagerstown 6
The 3 2010 draftees on the team, Phil Gosselin, Todd Cunningham, and Joe Leonard, combined to go 9-15 with a double, 3 triples, a home run, 6 RBI, and a stolen base. Leonard had an amazing debut for the team, missing the cycle by a single while driving in 5. Brett DeVall has been doing magic all year, because he's been gving up a ton of hits without ever really giving up a ton of runs. For the year his WHIP is 1.54 and he's giving up 11.6 hits per 9. Those numbers are way too high, but you have to keep in mind that he's just 20 years old and still recovering from off season surgery. Next year should be a much better indication of what he's capable of.
Danville 4, Elizabethton 0
Willie Kempf picks up his first win for Danville, dominating the E-Twins for 7 innings. In 24 innings this year for the GCL Braves and D-Braves the 21 year old, who was Atlanta's 27th round pick this year, has a 0.75 ERA and a 0.63 WHIP. Ryan Delgado was selected in the 32nd round this year and the 22 year old has settled in at the Danville DH, hitting .366 with a 1.107 OPS, 3 homers and 10 RBI in 41 at bats.
GCL Braves 2, GCL Tigers 1
David Rohm is trying to hit his way out of Florida. During his current 5 game hitting streak the 20 year old, who was Atlanta's 9th round pick this year, has gone 9-20 with 2 doubles, a triple, a homer, and 10 RBI. Fernando de los Santos is having a great year as the team's second baseman, hitting .340 with a .851 OPS in 50 at bats. It's a major improvement for the 20 year old, who hit .229 with a .612 OPS in 105 at bats with the team last season.
DSL Braves 7, DSL Dodgers 2
First baseman Aris Alcantra is a masher. In his last 10 the 20 year old is hitting .357 with a 1.066 OPS, 4 doubles, 3 triples, and 12 RBI. Rightfielder Felix Marte added a double and 3 RBI today, and the 19 year old has gone 6 for his last 14 with 2 doubles and a homer. Hector Garcia was one of the Braves' big international signings in the summer of 08, but the 6'2", 170 pound 18 year old switch hitter played poorly in the DSL last season, managing just a .165 average and a .446 OPS. He hasn't exactly wowed this year, but he's been much more consistent, with a .283 average and a .707 OPS.

This is Brandon Beachy's world...
Jason Heyward is just living in it.
J-Turn14 - July 16, 2010
And Beachy wasn't on the TC Midseason Top 30 why?
Zeus12888 - July 16, 2010
I think
They(CB, yondaime and Gondee) came up with the list before Beachy became a full-time starter.
Jay212033 - July 16, 2010
that is one of the problem with those lists...
within a month, if not less, kids will play up or down and make the list look bad.
Mr. Sanchez - July 16, 2010
Jordan Schafer
I really hope this gets him going. Having a GW like that could really boost his confidence.
ZC1 - July 16, 2010
we can only hope
Zeus12888 - July 16, 2010
Is Schafer playing right field and Nate's in Center?
vooodooo - July 16, 2010
Yes.
cbwilk - July 16, 2010

tomahawkchop3 - July 16, 2010
someone likes the peach state
VivaLosBravos - July 16, 2010
At first I thought you meant World of Warcraft. Which is kinda sad since I don’t even play.
At work we use WOW for week over week.
I have no idea what you are using it for. WOW means too many different things!!
/This day needs to hurry up. Yesterday felt like Friday so it feels like I’m working on a Saturday. It really sucks today.
Sparhawk - July 16, 2010
lol i meant WOW as in OMG! or holly crap what a debut! lol
tomahawkchop3 - July 16, 2010
question
how many players are on minor league rosters? is it 25 like major leagues,i counted less than 25 active players on the rosters in rome mb miss and gwinett and over 30 in danville and gcl
tomahawkchop3 - July 16, 2010
the lower levels have more because they are filled with draftees and international signings. The other generally have 25 on them but it shifts a lot and sometimes they will carry less.
yondaime4 - July 16, 2010
Hahahaha
I love my life.
Scott Coleman - July 16, 2010
LOL
For how long though? I can remember back in April when many of ya’ll were ready to commit suicide lol!
Jay212033 - July 16, 2010
Life is pretty good, and I get spoiled with daily minor league recaps.
Sparhawk - July 16, 2010
Freeman is legit, and I reeeaalllyy hope Schafer is turning things around. I want him in CF for 2011
ATLandUNC - July 16, 2010

Braves24 - July 16, 2010
So, Brandon Beachy is a poor man’s Strasburg now…what is this dude’s story??
bwellnjonesco - July 16, 2010
Well Allow me to ellaborate....
Beachy was a non drafted free agent out of a small, NAIA college in Indiana. He played both ways there but said pitching came easier to him even though he was terrible as a pitcher in his final season there. Braves scout Gene Kerns saw him pitch a game in the Valley League one summer after the draft. Kerns asked the coach to pitch beachy the next day and when he saw him again he immediately called Roy Clark and told him they had to sign the guy.
Beachy has three above average pitches: a fastball that sits 92-93 but can get up as high as 96, a slider and curve. He says he developed the curve as more of a joke than anything but it actually developed into a weapon and I would guess that is what has gotten him looked at as a starter this year.
All of this comes thanks to an article BA did on Beachy this past week.
yondaime4 - July 16, 2010
With 13Ks, that curve must be freaking hilarious.
bwellnjonesco - July 16, 2010
If you read the artcile on MiLB about his game
He says most of his Ks were on the curve…it must be fiiiiiiiilthy
Zeus12888 - July 16, 2010
Filthy hilarious!
Sparhawk - July 16, 2010
Get work done Joe Leonard.
yondaime4 - July 16, 2010
I figured you’d be happy. That was a pretty stellar game.
cbwilk - July 16, 2010
Just one game but it is good to see someone hitting.for power
yondaime4 - July 16, 2010 via mobile
And with Leonard, possibly proving he can work Rome...
it’d be great if he can have a year like Milligan did last year and end up in Myrtle. I wouldn’t expect him to start at 3B next year anytime, but it sure would be nice if he forced that issue on the field.
Mr. Sanchez - July 16, 2010
So, Brandon Beachy saw 19 batters
And struck out 13 of them.
Bronn - July 16, 2010
If you weren't so busy decorating your mom's basement
You would have noticed that he did not get the W, therefore he is a loser.
buzzdeadwax - July 16, 2010
hahaha
kbertling353 - July 16, 2010
that’s chalk full of win right there.
Sparhawk - July 16, 2010
If you're not first
you’re last.
VivaLosBravos - July 16, 2010
Where did this guy come from?...
Geez lousie, talk about the rich getting richer. Add this guy to the rest of the arms we have starting and relieving on the farm, goodness gracious sakes alive.
Mr. Sanchez - July 16, 2010
Glad McLouth is playing well.
If the Braves could get him back, and be starts playing more like his pre 2010 self… This team is scary!! Made a bet with a mets fan I work with. (yes, we hire the handicapped) That no team in the east will finish within 10 games of the braves. What should I spend the $50 on?
Frozen Fan - July 16, 2010
I saw Clevlen in the dugout last night in Atlanta. That must be one hell of an ankle sprain.
10-4 - July 16, 2010
Poor guy. It will be healed in September. Just in time for roster expansions
yondaime4 - July 16, 2010 via mobile
I guess AAA doesn't need him...
although I’d certainly rather him be getting the at bats in Gwinnett instead of Josh Anderson or Wily Tavares.
Mr. Sanchez - July 16, 2010
He and Resop must go to the same doctor.
10-4 - July 16, 2010
Curious on Resop...
anyone know how his deal is structured? Meaning that out clause, if he comes back, he can surely rehab. But would we have the option of sending him to Gwinnett full time without having to expose him to other teams since he was on the 25 man roster by that specified date?
Mr. Sanchez - July 16, 2010
Atleast he gets to chill in ATL’s dugout…
bwellnjonesco - July 16, 2010
yes
I would sprain my ankle for that opp.
