Thank you to all of our loyal readers and posters for continuing to check out the blog. Talking Chop set record-highs in unique visitors to the blog along with page views of the blog. The previous records were smashed. I hear there was a trade and some Braves player won MVP of the All-Star Game, but I'm guessing it was just Jeff Francoeur's birthday or something.
I don't know about you, but I can't wait for the 2nd half of the season to start. It should be a heck of a ride. And regardless of what happens with Yunel Escobar and Alex Gonzalez, we all need to remember one thing: The trade is done, and all we can do now is cheer our hearts out for Gonzo.
Thank you again.

Well, what did you expect when you run the best Braves blog out there???
Congrats!
justincredubil02 - July 15, 2010
and what was your reaction to the trade? My sleeping in until 12 and then working from 2-10 kept me away from the blog.
Scott Coleman - July 15, 2010
I don’t like it from a numbers perspective.
If it was made just for attitude, I completely understand it.
However, people like to say that Gonzalez is having a great year, blah, blah, blah. Well, he does have 17 HRs. Whoopeee. He also only has 23 more hits than Yunel this season in about 60 more PAs with fewer walks and about 4x more strikeouts. His batting average is only 20 points higher and his OBP is lower.
I hope people don’t expect too much out of him offensively.
justincredubil02 - July 15, 2010
Looking at the other Blue Jays players, I’m starting to think the reason so many of their guys strike out is the hitting coach and/or managerial philosophies. EVERYONE on that team struck out a ton. I’m not saying Gonzo coming to Atlanta will change his strikeouts, but I’m willing to bet they go down a substantial bit in the 2nd half.
After everything I’ve read the last hour (yeah, that’s all I’ve been doing.) I gotta think it was a move made to get Esco out of the clubhouse. Gonzalez is a veteran who’s supposed to be a great teammate and he should fit in perfectly with our other guys.

Go Colts
SuperNewb - July 15, 2010
I brought up the Hitting coach idea yesterday. With all the crazy that was going on here it got shot down pretty fast ha.
I don’t expect a major increase in walks or anything, but I do expect his “eye” to get better from either Pendelton, the rest of the team taking so many walks, or a combo of the 2. Either way, I expect him to not be anything spectacular and still hope we get an outfielder, but I do think with the exit of the ‘tude, the team might play even better. Here’s hoping!
Pavy848 - July 15, 2010
Oh yeah, the Blue Jays philosophy is basically grip it and rip it. :) That’s why a lot of people think that they will/and have falter, because they rely so much on the homerun ball.
dunnytwogloves - July 15, 2010
Also—Rogers Centre inflates HRs while The Ted deflates them, so there’s that.
Yakker - July 15, 2010
if it was made just for the hair I understand that…
wadlinger - July 15, 2010
Well lookey there! Something that Justin and I can completely 100% agree on! ;-)
NCChopper - July 15, 2010
Aww, come on. We agree a lot more often than you are giving yourself credit for!
:)
justincredubil02 - July 15, 2010
Nothing quite like getting a compliment, that’s actually a camouflaged bitch slap – from a dude.
I still love ya anyway Justin. ;-)
NCChopper - July 15, 2010
Hahaha. I am glad you picked up on that! :)

Chin Music - July 15, 2010 via mobile
Number?
What number will Alex Gonzalez wear being that he wore #11 for the Jays & obviously KK wears that for the bravos?
ClemsonBrave - July 15, 2010 via mobile

Wahoo!
SuperNewb - July 15, 2010
Awesome news!
From everything I’ve read, every Braves blog got it’s record high. Good to see us over here and everyone in the Braves blogosphere giving analysis and thoughts for fans to read and discuss.
BenDuronio - July 15, 2010
I love this site
but there has always been a lack of Muppets jokes. And I believe Frank Wren made this trade to help Talking Chop out with that.

GO GONZO!!!
McCann and McWill - July 15, 2010
probably too late for this, but....
isn’t Yunel represented by the same agent who screwed us this offseason?
scorby911 - July 15, 2010
That was last offseason - 2 years ago.
Good point though.
Pavy848 - July 15, 2010
I agree
Yunel and Furcal have the same agent.
HEYJUDE - July 15, 2010
Can anyone provide a link or image of Gonzo’s HRs/hits overlayed into Turner Field so we can get a general idea of what all his HRs and doubles could turn into here? Thanks in advance.
Pavy848 - July 15, 2010
I’m working on that right now…stand by
justincredubil02 - July 15, 2010
Ok, I don’t currently have the ability to do this.
justincredubil02 - July 15, 2010
“It’s me. I’m the bobblehead.” Love the Dwight pic man! I got two Dwight bobbleheads on my desk.
dunnytwogloves - July 15, 2010
That’s greatly appreciated.
Pavy848 - July 15, 2010
Long story short:
Gonzalez hit only 8 of his 17 homers in Toronto, but he does seem to have gotten lucky on a few of them overall. I’d guess he’d have more like 12-15 had he played in Atlanta… which would still be 12-15 more than Yunel hit, obviously.
He’s got good power for a shortstop, though we shouldn’t expect double digit homers for the rest of the season or anything. I just hope he can have a half-decent OBP somehow.
Jacob Peterson - July 15, 2010
dont expect to many DINGERZ maybe more RBIs
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/beware-the-jays-sluggers/
Erihury - July 15, 2010
Using the same article that Erihury referenced
All but one and possibly two of Gonzalez’s homers would have been gone in Turner Field.
BenDuronio - July 15, 2010
here's an overlay of gonzalez's homers onto turner field.
telemakhos - July 15, 2010
Thanks
HEYJUDE - July 15, 2010
Thank you.
That actually way better than I thought it’d look. Not too shabby. Shows most of his hrs were certifiable homers at least.
Pavy848 - July 15, 2010
This doesn’t show us the height though – I think he leads the league in “just over the walls”.
justincredubil02 - July 16, 2010
Which is NOT a measurement of simply height.
I forget how FG defined it, but it was also length.
MichaelProcton - July 17, 2010
That is awesome
Great stuff dude.
sag969 - July 15, 2010
Congrats
The news was enough to bring me back to this side of the blogosphere, where I haven’t been since the offseason—been busy with fantasy baseball, life, work, etc. (note the order)…
Good to see all the familiar posters again. Hope y’all are all doing well.
Yakker - July 15, 2010
And to you too!
justincredubil02 - July 15, 2010
Thanks—I think of you guys a bunch, whenever the Braves win, KJ goes yard, Frenchy does something stupid, or I see Chan Ho Park pitch.
Roy , can we get the Kung Fu Punch one more time, for Yunel?
Yakker - July 15, 2010
Welcome back
Hope you stay with us for the second half. I have a feeling it’s gonna be fun!
HEYJUDE - July 15, 2010
A big reason for this
I think is that yesterday on Google News (I checked at work around 1 pm), when you went to the sports section the trade was the #3 story. Guess what website was the headline? Talking Chop.
Should have taken a screenshot, but that probably explains the large number of unique visitors.
sag969 - July 15, 2010
SBN sites always end up high on teh Googlator.
It’s very handy for its writers.
MichaelProcton - July 15, 2010
Imagine the outburst on TC when the Braves clinch the Series. Better have a few extra servers on hand to handle the stampede.
UMDBHIK - July 15, 2010
You guys did this without me?
I’m calling Joey Greco.
Seriously, great job to all the authors, and everyone who contributes. Never a dull moment.
