Julio Teheran, who pitched for the World team in the All-Star Futures Game, is the Braves top prospect.
Today we finish up the Braves 2010 mid-season top-30 prospects with the top-10. Once again this list was compiled by taking the three lists of gondeee, yondaime4, and cbwilk and averaging them together. The write-ups were contributed by all three bloggers, as we each try to write about the guys we know the best.
For top prospects 11 through 20 click here.

In the comments section list your top-30 Braves mid-season prospects. This weekend I'll take all the submissions and average them together, and then next week I'll present the Talking Chop Community Mid-Season Top-30 Prospects.
Note that stats for hitters include batting average / on-base percentage / slugging percentage, while stats for pitchers include ERA / WHIP / innings pitched.
1 Julio Teheran, RHP :: 2.13/1.02/88.2 between Rome and Myrtle Beach
Julio comes into the halfway point of the season as the Braves best prospect and arguably the best pitching prospect in the minors. Baseball America has him ranked as their sixth-best prospect in their mid-season list. Teheran features a mid-90s fastball, a plus changeup and average to plus curve that he combines with plus control and command. Still just 19 years old he could end the year in double-A and give the Braves something to think about in late 2011. As good as Tommy Hanson has been, Julio Teheran might be better... that's scary awesome!
2 Freddie Freeman, 1B :: .287/.347/.478 at Gwinnett
Freeman is far and away the best position prospect in the system, and has spent all of 2010 as the second youngest player in the International League (Jesus Montero being three months younger). Scouts spent all off-season doubting Freeman's ability to hit for power and while he may not have classic first base power he currently ranks in the top ten in the International League in doubles and has hit some absolutely monster shots this season. Freddie attacks the ball at the plate, and while he may never walk a ton, he also doesn't strike out much. He has an outside chance at a late season call-up, though the Braves may not want to start his Major League clock just yet. He should be given the chance to win the starting job in 2011, with potentially very little competition.
3 Randall Delgado, RHP :: 2.85/1.05/110.1 at Myrtle Beach
If prospects were judged solely by their win-loss record then Delgado, who's lost twice as many games as he's won in his career, would be a complete afterthought. Fortunately, that's not the way things are done and Delgado's immense talent continues to garner more and more attention. In fact, that unfavorable win-loss record may make Delgado more of a sleeper prospect than anyone in the system (even though he ranks third on this list). With three plus pitches -- a mid-90s fastball to go with a curve and a change-up -- the tall righty has all the tools you could want in a pitcher. His lean frame continues to fill out as he gets older, giving him more speed on his pitches and more leverage in his pitching motion. He's dominated for Myrtle Beach this year and only needs to continue to refine his game to find himself in Atlanta's rotation within a couple of years.

4 Arodys Vizcaino, RHP :: 2.71/1.06/83 between Rome and Myrtle Beach
As upset as many Braves fans were to see Javier Vazquez get traded away, Vizcaino has done everything in his power to make the trade look like a steal for Atlanta. A big, projectable righty with a fastball that sits in the mid-90s and a hammer curve that is a plus, plus pitch. He dominated for Rome before a mid-season promotion to Myrtle Beach. He's currently on the disabled list with an arm strain that will sideline him for at least six weeks, and after missing last August with a back strain there are some mild concerns about his durability. Still, his sturdy frame and solid mechanics indicate that he'll likely be a durable pitcher, and a very good one at that.
5 Mike Minor, LHP :: 3.70/1.21/99.2 between Mississippi and Gwinnett
The most ballyhooed Braves draft pick in recent memory, Mike Minor has done everything possible to preclude any doubt that the Braves knew what they were doing. At the time of the draft most prognosticators had the soft tossing lefty as a late first-round to early second-round pick, but the Braves selected him with the seventh overall pick to everyone's surprise and to the dismay of some. Since being drafted Minor has transformed himself from a soft tossing lefty with a ceiling of a number-three starter to a strikeout machine who could be a good number-two starter in the Majors. He did this by changing his delivery (from more upright to using his legs more) and scrapping a curveball (which he had fallen in love with his senior year at Vanderbilt) in favor of his change/slider combo from earlier in his college career. These two changes helped him boost his velocity from 89-91 to 92-93, even touching 96 on occasion. His fastball also regained its former life and his slider is crisper than it was during his senior year at Vanderbilt.
6 Christian Bethancourt, C :: .248/.280/.322 at Rome
In 2008 the Braves signed Bethancourt for $600,000 as one the top talents from the international market and so far he is justifying their investment. At 18 years old he came into 2010 as the second youngest player in the Sally League. His bat is still developing, as evidenced by his .600 OPS in the first half, but his body continues to mature and he projects to hit for some power as he grows. Whatever kind of bat Bethancourt develops will just be a bonus alongside his fantastic defensive tools. His arm grades out as plus-plus and he has a plus release which leads to some ludicrous sub-1.90 second pop times from home to second. While most of his game is still raw, the Braves believe he has the tools and intangibles to become a special player.
7 Edward Salcedo, SS :: .273/.389/.418 between DSL and Rome
When the Braves signed Salcedo in February it was considered the equivalent of signing a high first-round pick. With a body reminiscent of a young Hanley Ramirez, and the skills to match (minus the attitude problems), it's easy to see why the Braves signed him. He's a big strong kid with tons of room on his frame to add muscle. He has easy, natural motions both at the plate and in the field. After some visa issues left him stranded in his native Dominican Republic, he showed off his five tools for the Braves' DSL squad, and though he's struggled a bit since joining Rome, it can't be said enough: He's only 18 and it's his first professional season. The Braves may have found their long-term answer for both the middle of the diamond and the middle of the lineup.
8 Matt Lipka, SS :: .304/.368/.348 at GCL
Coming into the 2010 draft Lipka was considered one of the most athletic and toolsy middle infielders available. His best tool right now is his speed, running sub 6.4 times from the right side to first base. His short stroke sprays balls into the gap right now, and his athletic frame could lead to better than average power down the road. Matt's biggest question mark comes on the defensive side of the ball where most believe he will be average defensively at shortstop, but could profile as an above average center fielder with a strong arm. The Braves will be patient with Lipka and will allow him the necessary time to develop as both a hitter and a fielder.
9 Craig Kimbrel, RHP :: 0.82/0.94/33 at Gwinnett
The right-handed version of Billy Wagner, Kimbrel has already seen time in the Majors twice this season, and pitched well in limited work each time. With a devastating fastball that not only heads toward the plate in the high 90s, but goes there with an unbelievable amount of movement, he can dominate hitters. When he adds a changeup in the low 80s, thrown with nearly identical arm action, things just become unfair for opposing hitters. All Kimbrel needs to work on is his control, which is an unfortunate byproduct of the deadly movment on his fastball. He's close to being a full time Major Leaguer, and not far from being a top-flight closer. He should get his chance to prove his worth at the end of games in the Major Leagues sometime in the next year.
10 Robinson Lopez, RHP :: 3.72/1.22/77.1 at Rome
He's got great tools and great velocity, but he needs plenty of work. He's also reversed a trend from last year where he was more dominant out of the stretch than the windup. This year batters are hitting almost 70 points higher off of him from the stretch -- it's not a good thing to get worse when runners are on base. His fastball also needs to be located better and tends to be flat at times. Overall, though, he has a lot of projection and should at least be considered a Major League bullpen prospect, with an outside shot as a starter, though he is a bit undersized.

My top-30
1 Julio Teheran – No der, he’s the best.
2 Freddie Freeman – I had him below Randall and Arodys for a while, but I snapped out of it. What he’s doing at a young age in triple-A is sick.
3 Randall Delgado – He’s almost like bonus pitching.
4 Arodys Vizcaino – I’m worried about the nagging injuries, but I’m willing to overlook them for now.
5 Mike Minor – He might need to be higher on this list, perhaps third.
6 Edward Salcedo – Beginning a run of three very raw prospects, but all guys with tons of tools.
7 Matt Lipka – I’m very excited to see him play in a few weeks.
8 Christian Bethancourt – I’ve been impressed with him the few times I’ve seen him play.
9 Craig Kimbrel – The walks are the only thing keeping him from being a shut-down closer.
10 Robinson Lopez – I like him, and he’s got potential, he just needs innings to refine his stuff.
11 Mycal Jones – Great guy and a hard player, tremendous athlete. He works hard and he’s make progress, although slower than most people would like.
12 Brett Oberholtzer – He might be one of the more intriguing pitchers we have, though I probably would have put him after Hoover if I were making the list up now.
13 J.J. Hoover – The Hoover Line, nice and average, but nothing bad and not much to dislike with this guy.
14 Joe Leonard – Yeah, I probably over-ranked him based solely on his profile. We’ll see how I feel in a couple of weeks when I see him play.
15 Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg – I absolutely love this guy. I just think he’s a pure hitter with decent power potential. I just hope he doesn’t fall into the Casey Kotchman trap.
16 Michael Dunn – Huge fan of this guy too. He got a late start on the mound, so he’s still figuring out how good he is. He’s more of the embarrassment of riches from the left side of the Braves bullpen. After not having any good left-handed relievers for years, we’ve got tons of them now.
17 Caleb Brewer – I like the things I’ve heard about him, though I’d like to see him get challenged a bit more by the organization.
18 Zeke Spruill – I am just not as enamored as some folks are with Z.
19 Jose Ortegano – He’s falling down the list, but he’s a guy where something could click and he could dominate in the right situation.
20 Carlos Perez – I have a feeling that he’ll be in the top-10 by the end of the year. He’s the fastest mover in the system right now.
21 Paul Clemens – I’m somewhat unimpressed by how lanky this kid is, so I want to see a bit more muscle on him before he moves up the list.
22 Cory Harrilchak – Another fave, I just love his approach to the plate.
23 David Filak – Of all the pitchers we drafted this year I really like his profile the best. Yes, I like him enough to rank him this high already.
24 Cory Rasmus – I root for him more than anyone in the system. So many injury set backs.
25 Andy Otero – I want to see great things out of him. I’m not as high on him as most people, though.
26 Adam Milligan – I like this guy, I just fear he’s another Cody Johnson, only more injured.
27 Brett DeVall – More injury woes with DeVall. He needs to be challenged at AA before I’ll really know what we have in him.
28 Cody Johnson – His power alone gives me a fleeting glimmer of hope that he one day figures out he doesn’t have to try to crush every ball. All he has to do is make solid contact (heck, just contact) and he’ll hit homeruns just because he’s so strong.
29 David Hale – Still has a great fastball, it’s just a matter of finding a comfort zone and building confidence in his stuff. He’s another guy who may take a bit longer because he was a two-way player in college.
30 Tyler Stovall – I probably would have listed someone else here were I to re-do this list, but I still see some potential in Stovall, but he needs to get cranking. Injuries have hurt him too.
gondeee - July 14, 2010
I have
1. Teheran 2. Freeman 3. Minor 4. Delgado 5. Vizcaino 6. Kimbrel 7. Salcedo 8. Lopez 9. Lipka 10. Hoover 11. Bethancourt 12. Dunn 13. Spruill 14. Jones 15. Perez
I factor closeness to Majors a bit heavier than some but also ceiling’s hence Perez and Lopez higher. Hoover’s ceiling isn’t high but I like guys who do everything alright and are consistent.
BenDuronio - July 14, 2010
Chris Masters would also by my 16, but everyone has a bit of a different list after the first 6 or 7.
BenDuronio - July 14, 2010
I think everyone would have essentially the same names in their top 10-15...
it’s 15+ where it’s hard to really say who should be where. There are some good low ceiling, but highly likely to reach that ceiling types, and a few high ceiling but very unrefined guys. I screwed around last weekend to see who I’d want where, but that last bit was suspect and I left a lot of guys off I felt just as deserving as say my #20-25 slots.
Mr. Sanchez - July 14, 2010
Am I allowed to have a top 15...
and split the remaining points between 2 dozen or so?
Mr. Sanchez - July 14, 2010
No love for Beachy, Gondee?
Zeus12888 - July 14, 2010
would either of the two new guys crack this list?
Collins sounds like a similar prospect to Dunn (not exactly as a player, but both lefty releivers with good stuff and a great K rate), while the Pastronicky kid could be anywhere from a bizarro Myke Jones (speedy possible leadoff middle IF type, but while Jones is tools and upside, new kid is more polished without the raw tools) or a potential utility type ala Harrilchak.
Mr. Sanchez - July 14, 2010
Interesting...
… as I write this fresh from the AA All-Star game, it’s oddly noteworthy that none of the four Miss. Braves representatives cracked this list at all.
That said, given this was my first look at any of them; Beachy looked pretty darn good in his one inning of work.
carpengui - July 14, 2010
Beachy is great, one of my top-20.
BenDuronio - July 14, 2010
Been screwing with this damn list for 10 days, not really close to y'alls
1. J Teheran
2. F Freeman
3. R DelGado
4. E Salcedo
5. A Vizcaino
6. M Minor
7. C Kimbrel
8. B Beachy
9. JJ Hoover
10. M Lipka
11. J Leonard
12. C Bethancourt
13. My Jones
14. T Cunningham
15. C Masters
16. B Oberholtzer
17. E Sanchez
18. A Milligan
19. R Lopez
20. C Brewer
21. T Stovall
22. R Spanjer-Furstenburg
23. D Filak
24. C Rasmus
25. W Cabrera
26. M Dunn
27. C Gearrin
28. R Hefflinger
29 C Harrilchak
30. B DeVall
Just can’t pull the trigger on C Johnson and Z Spruill. I know they have some great tools, but I just can’t see a K machine and a guy who punches walls ahead of these 30.
bighop - July 14, 2010
A little bullish on Beachy?
parish - July 14, 2010
Yeah, I just keep reading the recaps and got a little carried away. Had never heard of him a month ago.
bighop - July 14, 2010
I'm not even sure that it's unwarranted
Beachy is legit. His K/BB ratio in ‘10 as a reliever is 49-14 and as a starter it’s 31-5. He’s going to be good, in my opinion. 160 K’s to 40 BB’s in 152.1 career innings. He’s missing more bats this year too, striking out 27.5% of batters swinging as a starter and 20.5% as a reliever. The MLB average is 11.5 for a starter and 14.5 as a reliever.
BenDuronio - July 14, 2010
But nobody else has him ranked at all! I can’t believe I left Ortegano off the list completely, my bad.
bighop - July 14, 2010
I've been high on his numbers all year
He’s going to force himself into consideration for a bullpen spot next season similar to Kimbrel this year, in my opinion. I think after looking deeper into the numbers, Beachy makes my top-15 as well, in front of Spruill.
BenDuronio - July 14, 2010
Cool, maybe 8th is too high, but I’m feeling better about having him there. Going thru the rosters I was blown away with his numbers. I have seen 1 AA game this year and a few AAA on TV, otherwise I go from recaps and studying rosters/fangraphs. Throw in my predjudice to give up too soon and you end up with a list like mine.
bighop - July 14, 2010
The Medlen comp is compelling
as is his production. Any idea why he was overlooked enough to be a free agent signing?
Mr. Sanchez - July 14, 2010
My list will be (accurately) criticized for the following:
1) Being Terrible
2) Ranking relievers too highly
3) containing Jesus Sucre
1. Julio Teheran
2. Freddie Freeman
3. Arodys Vizcaino
4. Randall Delgado
5. Mike Minor
6. Craig Kimbrel
7. Christian Bethancourt
8. Edward Salcedo
9. Matt Lipka
10. Zeke Spruill
11. JJ Hoover
12. Joe Leonard
13. Mycal Jones
14. Robinson Lopez
15. Willie Cabrera
16. Brett Oberholtzer
17.Jaye Chapman
18. Carlos Perez
19. Jose Ortegano
20. Brett Devall
21. Cory Harrilchak
22. Andy Otero
23. Todd Cunningham
24. David Hale
25. Tyrelle Harris
26. Lee Hyde

i like you
thats all
Swo12bv - July 15, 2010
I love the Sugar Jesus.
PWHjort - July 15, 2010
where is stephen marek?
the guy has a sub 1.10 ERA in AAA and he’s not even considered a prospect? because certainly any player worthy of being a major leaguer is in the top 30 of the organization
Jaymin Patel - July 14, 2010
age
VivaLosBravos - July 14, 2010
Agree, he might make it and stay in MLB for 5 years, but his age kept him off my list
bighop - July 14, 2010
Age and average stuff as a pitcher limited to relief.
cbwilk - July 14, 2010
Great this year...
not so much prior to it. In addition to the age mentioned, he’s come a long way this year vs last year where he was failing in AA.
Mr. Sanchez - July 14, 2010
I find it amazing ...
that a guy who’s gone 19-9, 3.44, 1.25 WHIP and 8.6 K/9 in slightly over a year worth of MLB is only the third best prospect over a couple of years. Ie Tommy Hanson is pretty damn good, and both Heyward and Teheran are on trajectories to be better. I didn’t believe the hype about Heyward until, oh, about the end of April.
blwfish - July 14, 2010
Jay's Top 30
1. Julio Teheran, 19, RHP – He’s been awesome this season and there’s no doubt that he’s our best prospect and one of the top prospects in all of baseball.
2. Randall Delgado, 20, RHP – Very underrated by most but is one of my favorite pitchers. Should be in AA already but the Braves know best but he’s been lights out this season as well.
3. Arodys Vizcaino, 19, RHP – The partial tear doesn’t scare me as much as everyone else but he does have other durability concerns as well. He pitched great this season and hopefully he’ll come back in a few weeks strong as ever.
4. Freddie Freeman, 20, 1B – For a 20 y.o. he’s been hitting the ball with authority against guys that are way older and have some ML experience. Plus he’s been playing great D over at 1st.
5. Mike Minor, 22, LHP – Boy I really didn’t like this pick when the Braves made it last season but Minor has made me eat my words so far. Hopefully he can keep it up and do it in the ML as well.
6. Edward Salcedo, 18, SS – I was surprised to hear that the Braves were even going after him but when they signed him I was super excited. Salcedo has plus tools across the board and he’s getting valuable experience in Low A ball. Sky is the limit with this kid, hopefully this kid turns out to be close to what Hanley Ramirez(minus the attitude) is.
7. Christian Bethancourt, 18, C – He’s been holding his own in Low A. Still needs improvement in several areas but the tools are there for him to be the top prospect in the organization in a year or two.
8. Craig Kimbrel, 21, RHP – I really didn’t want to include him since he had “some” ML experience but from what I saw in his limited time in the ML dude is going to be flat out dominant if he can stay anywhere close to the plate. Absolutely SICK STUFF!
9. Matt Lipka, 18, SS – Loved this pick! Although he hasn’t shown the power yet he’s still getting on base, stealing bases, hitting the ball the opposite way and playing good D. Doing great for his first professional experience.
10. Robinson Lopez, 19, RHP – For his first full season he’s been very good but he has to work on his defense(too many errors for a pitcher) and working from the stretch things that can be easily fixed.
11. Todd Cunningham, 21, OF/3B – Now this might be aggressive but I really like his bat and unlike most here if Cunningham could hit .300+ with 15-20 HR and steal 20-25 bases i’ll be happy with that in LF(where he’d grade as a plus defender).
12. J.J. Hoover, 22, RHP – I still really love this kid, he could be a solid #3 or a great # 4/5. If he remains with the Braves he’ll be a BP guy.
13. Carlos Perez, 18, LHP
14. Adam Milligan, 21, OF
15. Joe Leonard, 21, 3B
16. Mycal Jones, 22, SS
17. Zeke Spruill, 20, RHP
18. Brett Oberholtzer, 21, LHP
19. Brandon Beachy, 23, RHP
20. Andy Otero, 18, LHP
21. Willie Cabrera, 23, OF
22. Michael Dunn, 25, LHP
23. Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg, 22, 1B
24. Brett DeVall, 20, LHP
25. Cory Harrilchak, 22, OF
26. Kyle Rose, 21, OF
27. David Filak, 20, RHP
28. Edison Sanchez, 19, 3B/1B
29. David Rohm, 20, 3B/1B/OF
30. Chris Masters, 22, LHP

One month
Does anyone want to play ‘guess the lineup game?’ Three weeks from now we will be past the non-waiver trade deadline. Any of you guys that are prospect buffs want to chime in on a) what will the Braves lineup look like one month from today (assuming everyone is healthy) and b) which prospect (s) on this list are no longer with the organization.
I keep leaning toward the acquisiton of Cody Ross over Willingam or Hart, but who would the Braves give up?
CharlotteChop - July 14, 2010
MLBTradeRumors is reporting we traded Yunel and JoJo
To the Blue Jays. Oh Man.
bobthemonkey - July 14, 2010
ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS. OH MY GOD
Zeus12888 - July 14, 2010
Wow, we just got absolutely jobbed.
I really hope this doesn’t pan out.
Zeus12888 - July 14, 2010
Holy Shit for Alex Gonzalez.
CharlotteChop - July 14, 2010
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is horrible!!!!!!!!
Jay212033 - July 14, 2010
Terrible
We basically just gave away Escobar
CooperstownChipper - July 14, 2010 via mobile
Retract my statement
Those mL look very interesting and Gonzalez plays just as good D as Esco and will hit some HR at least this season so it’s not terrible overall. Esco just wore out his welcome.
Jay212033 - July 14, 2010
The minor leaguers aren’t all that interesting, at least not enough to make up for us straight up giving away one of the better shortstops in the NL
telemakhos - July 14, 2010
Look at the K numbers on that reliever we got.
Those are Craig Kimbrel like! 73 Ks in 43 IP!
J-Turn14 - July 14, 2010
Maybe Billy Wagner Jr.
He’s only 5’7"!!!!!
Jay212033 - July 14, 2010
that’s pretty short lol
MBL1 - July 14, 2010
And he’s really shorter than that.
cbwilk - July 14, 2010
have you seen this kid? What are your thoughts, cb?
VivaLosBravos - July 14, 2010
I saw him throw an inning in a Minor League intersquad game and I remember him pitching well. Honestly he didn’t make a huge impression in my mind, but that’s really more my fault because he wasn’t a huge prospect and I wasn’t giving him my full attention. I do remember he pitched well and I came away impressed that someone that small could do well on the mound.
cbwilk - July 14, 2010
looks like we bought high and sold low here
VivaLosBravos - July 14, 2010
Finally got rid of JoJo. I was hoping Esco would have a big 2nd half….and I love his defense but I guess the Braves gave up on him.
MBL1 - July 14, 2010
Lipka
I assume for Lipka, it means sub-4.6, not 6.4?
Clayticus - July 14, 2010
Even a 4.6 from home to first is nothing special
I’m thinking the 6.4 might be from home-to-second. Which is pretty quick from the right side.
SmokeyBones - July 14, 2010
sorry that is supposed to be the 60 yard dash I believe.
yondaime4 - July 14, 2010
I'm ammending my top 30 to add Tim Collins and Tyler Pastornicky. Here's a preview.
1. Collins
2. Teheran
3. Pastornicky…
More to come soon…
J-Turn14 - July 14, 2010
You’re really high on Teheran
VivaLosBravos - July 14, 2010
LOL
Seriously though the two minor leaguers look pretty solid that we got in return. Both are young and have good potential and are in the upper minors. A SS and a good LH relief pitcher I have a feeling there are more moves to come though.
Jay212033 - July 14, 2010
Good Trade
We just dumped two of the biggest head cases in the organization. This is addition by subtraction.
JimH - July 14, 2010
Bobby Cox
Chuck Dowdle was just saying on the radio that Bobby Cox had run out of patience with Escobar. He was saying that they had to get rid of him.
JimH - July 14, 2010
addition by subtraction that doesnt even make sense.
but we are getting OScar back today, so….addition by addition
Swo12bv - July 15, 2010
Cox ran out of patience?
Wow, that’s a statement. Bobby seems to have the patience of Job.

looking over these lists
makes me think we’ll probably be drafting quite a few Outfielders in the next draft. Of course Sabol could play in the OF if he signs.

Huntington31 - July 14, 2010
Would the new players acquired in the Yunel trade count for this because they were both in the top 20 of the Jays org.?
Huntington31 - July 14, 2010
Its interesting to see where people rank Vizcaino and Delgado.
I assume that most rank Arodys lower now because of injuries, correct? In my mind, he’s higher when healthy.
soup du jour - July 14, 2010
true but this is the second straight season he has missed time with injuries
yondaime4 - July 14, 2010
I will, yes...
because as yonda said, it’s not his first shortened season, when he’s only had 2 anyway. That it’s an elbow ligament makes it worse.
Mr. Sanchez - July 14, 2010
Even when healhty, I would have Delgado over Vizcaino
Braves24 - July 14, 2010
healthy
Braves24 - July 14, 2010
Id rank Delgado higher…one level closer, only one year older…and still producing greats results…also he has the stuff to make it warranted…the injuries dont help any, but I’ve always really like Delgado…Vizcaino I havent made up my mind about yet ( i like him int he top 10, even the top 5 maybe but im just not sure how much i like him i guess)

cbwilk - July 15, 2010
Finished my list
1. Julio Teheran – Didn’t have to spend much time thinking about this one.
2. Freddie Freeman – Love the tools, approach has made tremendous strides, he’s one of the youngest players in the IL and still getting it done. Went back/fourth on 2-3-4 quite a bit.
3. Edward Salcedo – Huge ceiling, future middle of the order hitter. So far away, but so impressive.
4. Randall Delgado – Top of the rotation starter written all over him.
5. Robinson Lopez – With Teheran’s promotion, Lopez might have the biggest arm in the Sally League.
6. Mike Minor – He’s going to turn out to be pretty damn good after all.
7. Arodys Vizcaino – Mechanics/injury worry me. Electric fastball and big league 50 curve right now, but he may have to settle for a relief role.
8. Craig Kimbrel – He’s not far away from being one of the better relievers in the game.
9. Christian Bethancourt – Legit 80 arm and a plus runner. Waiting for the bat skills to develop.
10. Matt Lipka – I love him. Another guy with an 80 tool, speed.
11. Mycal Jones – Like the bat, don’t think he’ll stick at SS.
12. Carlos Perez – Write this name down.
13. Andrelton Simmons – Huge fastball, clocked at 98 MPH.
14. David Filak – Another guy with electric stuff, fresh arm.
15. Todd Cunningham – No matter what, he’ll hit.
16. Michael Dunn – Big arm from the left side, sloppy command at times.
17. J.J. Hoover – Still don’t know if the stuff will play at the next level.
18. Joe Leonard – Like the bat/glove combo a lot. The Braves expect him to show more power, which would cause my ranking of him to increase.
19. Stephen Marek – With two absolutely filthy pitches it looks like Marek is going to pan out after all. Questionable track record.
20. Eduardo Castillo – Tons of projection, I see a potential ace.
21. Zeke Spruill – Plus sinker, secondary pitches need refinement, questionable make up.
22. Cory Harrilchak – More of a 4th OF that can play all 3 positions and a good on-base threat off the bench than a starter for me, still like him a lot.
23. Tim Collins – Good fastball/curveball combo, excellent results, very small frame.
24. Tyler Stovall – I just can’t quit him. Fastball/curveball combo is too good.
25. Tyler Pastornicky – Good athlete and runner, might hit enough to make it as a regular 2B or SS.
26. Robert Hefflinger – Major league bat speed. Like his chances of getting to the big leagues better than Milligan/Johnson, but probably as a power threat off the bench.
27. Ernesto Silva – More top of the rotation projection. Currently injured and a long ways away.
28. Adam Milligan – Contact and health issues have me seriously concerned.
29. Lee Hyde – Good velocity and a plus knuckle curve, might have late innings potential.
30. Cody Johnson – Cody, I love ya, but you’ve gotta quit striking out so much.
PWHjort - July 15, 2010
Just missed
Cory Rasmus, Luis Sumoza, Jesus Sucre, Joseph Terdoslavich, David Hale, Fernando De Los Santos, Benino Pruneda, Hector Garcia, Amable Nin, Abraham Espinosa, Caleb Brewer, and Meng Tsai.
PWHjort - July 15, 2010
Meng Tsai
Taiwanese i’m guessin. Any specifics on him? And just from looking at stats, I put Jesus Saldeno ahead of Espinosa. They’re both 17 and in the DSL, but Saldeno is missing more bats.
J-Turn14 - July 15, 2010
Saldeno and Espinosa are both 17 now...
but Saldeno is Oct 92, while Espinosa is June 93. It’s not a huge difference, but a bit.
Mr. Sanchez - July 15, 2010
Tsai
He’s a good defender with a quick stroke that the Braves think will produce both average and power. Looooong ways away.
I’ve never heard anything about Saldeno.
PWHjort - July 15, 2010
I assume that means you've got some knowledge of Espinosa.
Was he a six figure signing bonus guy?
J-Turn14 - July 15, 2010
I love that you listed a SS as having a 98 mph fastball. But yeah, I think he ends up pitching too.
cbwilk - July 15, 2010
Yeah
Wouldn’t rank him nearly as high if he weren’t going to pitch soon. Sounds like they’re doing the Casey Kelly thing w/ him.
I like him enough to rank him as a SS (mostly for his D), not close to 13 though.

Jacob Peterson - July 15, 2010
our system is so stocked with prospects it’s not even funny.
MBL1 - July 15, 2010 via mobile
Imagine this 2013 Lineup potentially
CF Jordan Schafer
3B Martin Prado
RF Jason Heyward
1B Freddie Freeman
C Brian McCann
SS Edward Salcedo
3B Matt Lipka
LF Todd Cunningham
Starters:
Tommy Hanson
Jair Jurrjens
Julio Teheran
Aroyds Vizcaino
Mike Minor
I know that isn’t solid or anything, but still, that would be an awesome lineup/starters
ZC1 - July 16, 2010
thats a good one but how about this
CF Matt Lipka
2B Martin Prado
RF Jason Heyward
1B Freedie Freeman
C Brian McCann
3B Joe Leonard
SS Edward Salcedo
LF Todd Cunningham
Im a big fan of Jordan Scafer but i dont know if he will be able to bounce back,i sure hope he does tho, Joe Leonard is ligit I Beleive,Im thinking that Cunningham will add muscle and develop some pop , I dont see Lipka sticking at SS although if he winds up above average at SS then maybe we have some trade bait with either him or Salcedo, but ya 2013 is a long ways off so who knows really, but sure is fun to think about
tomahawkchop3 - July 16, 2010
now that i think about it Salcedo may not stick at SS either i have seen many reports that ppl see him as a future 3B
