One significant move tonight is that Mycal Jones has been promoted from Rome to Myrtle Beach. There isn't word at the moment who will be replacing him in Rome, if anyone, but it could be the Braves signed one of their new INFs super fast or Edward Salcedo's visa has finally come through. I am really hoping for the latter, but we will probably hear some time tomorrow.
Gwinnett 9, Norfolk 10
Matt Young broke out of his mini slump with three hits but for once it was the pitching staff that couldn't back up the offense. Ortegano had his worst outing in AAA and h as now given up 10 runs in his last 10 innings with Gwinnett. Mitch Jones also continue to put together a solid season that is really only lacking walks. If the guy could just take a pitch or four occasionally I think he would actually be a worthwhile investment at the ML level.
Mississippi 6, West Tennessee 9
Mike Minor has really been up and down in his last 4 starts with him giving up 7 runs for the second time this month. His 2 strike outs are also a season low for him (I was hoping for him to be the first player to 100 K this season). Cody Johnson struck out 2 more times tonight and now has 82 in 176 ABs this year. That is like 1,000,000 in a 500 AB season.
Winston-Salem 0, Myrtle Beach 2
As good as Delgado and Teheran are JJ Hoover has been the hottest pitcher for the Pelicans over the last month. He has given up just 4 runs over his last 39 innings with just 6 walks and 22 hits in that span. Hoover reminds me a bit of a poor man's Tommy Hanson as he has a pronounced fly ball rate but works around it effectively. He has slightly better control than Tommy but slightly worse stuff with a hammer curveball and developing changeup.
Rome 1, Charleston 7
Brett DeVall pitched 5 innings and gave up 5 runs with 4 walks. Not really a good outing after a few good ones from DeVall. The offense didn't really help him either, except for the one guy who hasn't helped anyone this season, Braeden Schlehuber. Cory Harrilchak continues to get on base and steal bases which excites me a lot.
DSL Blue Jays 6, DSL Braves 3 - Game 1 - 7 Innings
Look a double header for the DSL teams!
DSL Braves 2, DSL Blue Jays 1 - Game 2 - 7 Innings
Alright there is a little more for me to get excited about in this game. Salcedo continues to be pretty consistent. He isn't flat out dominating, but he is playing solid defense, stealing bases and taking some walks. I'll take that from a guy that is just 18 and facing the first real competition of his life (I think). Hector Garcia will turn 18 in a week and half and he was pretty terrible last year but he already has about as many walks in 23 at bats as he did in 80 ABs last season. Felix Marte has been in the DSL for three seasons now but he appears to be getting better each year and he has flash a little power (no one has much in the DSL mind you). He is 19 but maybe another guy to keep an eye on. Espinosa just turned 17 a few days ago and he has been fantastic in his first two starts. I am the first guy to say that DSL stats don't mean a whole lot, but I am doing my best to pull guys out of the haystack for you guys, so keep an eye out.

Or
They could promote Linger to Rome, he’s a pretty good prospect in his own right but I’m with you Matt I hope it’s Salcedo. I don’t care about his numbers in the DSL I want to see what he can do against some “real” pitching.
Jay212033 - June 9, 2010
Linger is a second baseman. So unless they move Matt Weaver back to SS, that’s not much of an option.
cbwilk - June 9, 2010
Linger started out as a SS but the Braves moved him to 2B
From what I read on him he was an above average defensive SS. Now whether or not the Braves want to move him back there is another question.
Jay212033 - June 9, 2010
If the Braves thought he could play SS long term the wouldn’t move him off of there at suc a young age.
cbwilk - June 9, 2010
Any other possible SSs in extended spring?
Perhaps Fernando De Los Santos, or the SS from Tenerife, Alexjandro Sanchez Martinez.
Mr. Sanchez - June 9, 2010
Off the top of my head you’ve probably named them all. Really, this move is about rewarding Myke Jones more than creating a spot for someone else. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if they sent Ryan Barba back down to be Rome’s SS.

Jones
Oh and congrats to Mychal Jones he deserves this promotion.

Edison Sanchez
Anybody know where he is? Can’t remember seeing anything about him this year.
bighop - June 9, 2010
He should be in the GCL in a couple of weeks
Along with a couple other guys from the DSL as well as my sleeper pick Andy Otero.

Jay212033 - June 9, 2010
Boy I'm all off tonight
2 RBI
Jay212033 - June 9, 2010
and a caught stealing
yondaime4 - June 9, 2010
He didn’t start. Alex Romero started and was hit by a pitch in the back of his shoulder in the first inning and had to leave. Jordan had a nice single to plate 2 runs and was caught stealing, even though he was obviously safe.

Cody Johnson
is starting to worry me a bit.
Scott Coleman - June 9, 2010 via mobile
It might be sorry to say this
but he’s gonna be a mitch jones type guy until he adjust his hitting approach, he wont make it anywhere with his strikeout rates
JasonHeywardisGod - June 9, 2010
Haha, starting to?
soup du jour - June 9, 2010
If he makes adjustments....
he still has plenty of time to work on them.
Mr. Sanchez - June 9, 2010
We should all stop thinking that Cody will figure it out. That should jinx him and then he’ll actually figure it out and start making better contact.
More reverse psychology is needed.
Someone just tell Cody the story about a player named Failcoeur and hopefully that will motivate him.
Sparhawk - June 9, 2010
21 in AA. Very few guys succeed at 21 in AA. If he’s still not playing well in AA next year, then I’ll be worried.
cbwilk - June 9, 2010
I really want freeman
to get hot and get back to his ELITE prospect status :)
JasonHeywardisGod - June 9, 2010
The guy is 20 in AAA. And he’s having a decent year. To me, that’s still elite status. There are pitchers in the league that have been playing professionally since he was in elementary school.
cbwilk - June 9, 2010
Cut him
He’s a bum!
Bronn - June 9, 2010
Brett DeVall
Even though DeVall had a few more walks than usual he has bumped up his velo to 92-93. It will take him a little more time to to adjust to the extra movement he will get from that velo. Devall was not missing much and he said he was happy that velocity was coming back after having elbow surgery just 6 months ago
PANHANDLEDAD - June 9, 2010
Thanks for the update...
it’ll be good to get a better gauge on him next year as he continues to get healthy and move up the system.
