There weren't a lot of wins spread around the Braves' organization as Gwinnett wnt 3-4 (7.5 GB), Mississippi was a very poor 1-6 (8.5 GB), Myrtle Beach also went 3-4 (19 GB), Rome was 2-5 (10.5 GB), and the DSL Braves were the only winners, going 3-1 (0.5 GB).
Who's Hot?
Honorable Mentions: Mike Dunn, Cory Gearrin, Tim Gustafson, Todd Redmond, Chris Resop, Joe Thurston, Jordan Schafer, Gwinnett; Juan Abreu, Antoan Richardson, Mississippi; Yeliar Castro, Benino Pruneda, Luis Avilan, Randall Delgado, Brett Oberholtzer, Matt Kennelly, Mike Jones, Myrtle Beach; David Hale, Brett DeVall, Cory Rasmus, Arodys Vizcaino, Andrew Wilson, Jace Whitmer, Cory Harrilchak, Rome; Aris Alcantra, Abraham Espinosa, DSL
Who's Cold?
Dishonorable Mentions: JoJo Reyes, Clint Sammons, Barbaro Canizares, Brandon Hicks, Gwinnett; Mike Broadway, Erik Cordier, Tommy Palica, Richard Sullivan, Jacob Thompson, Mauro Gomez, Randy Gress, Willie Cabrera, Mike Daniel, Mississippi, Paul Clemens, Chad Rodgers, Travis Jones, Calvin Culver, Cole Miles, Myrtle Beach; Robinson Lopez, Christian Bethancourt, Chris Curley, Matt Weaver, Jake Hanson, Rome
Stock Up - Luis Avilan - The 20 year old lefty was originally signed out of Venezuela in 2005. He's always put up good numbers, but after a 2.61 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 20.2 innings (15 games) for Rome, he's put up 8.2 no-hit innings in 5 games for Myrtle Beach, allowing just 4 walks. Solid lefties are always in high demand and a guy who can knock them down like Avilan will always be highly sought after.
Stock Down - Matt Weaver - After hitting .265 with a .644 OPS with the GCL and Danville in his debut season last year, the 20 year old Weaver is down to just. 235 with a .591 OPS this season. He's also moved off of shortstop, spending most of his games at second base. He doesn't get on enough, with a .292 OBP in 93 career games, and he doesn't hit with much authority, compiling just a .322 slugging percentage in that time. He was a 9th round draft pick just last season, so there's plenty of reason to believe he's talented, but he's going to have to start putting things together to gain some traction in the organization.

I still think Minor should move up to AAA sometime this summer. He is showing his maturity and that he could be ready for the Bigs sometime in 2011. I still say he is our best option right now for an emergency starter, if needed, until JJ comes back.

I think you are probably right
that Minor should and will be moved up to AAA soonish. Not sure if he’d be the best “emergency” starter though. I’d be hesitant to bring him up unless he has a long-term spot. For “emergency,” I’d go with…. shudder Chris Resop..
extra shudder

Ortegano?
he’s done well since hitting AAA. And there’s off days that could delay the need.

Oh yeah, and there's this Redmond guy down there...
I heard he’s pitched pretty well lately.

What, no Teheran?
You dissapoint me.
MBL1 - June 7, 2010
what about teheran’s 14K performance for myrtle beach?
telemakhos - June 7, 2010
It wasn’t this week. He only had 1 start where he pitched 5 and gave up 2 earned runs. I think he struck out 10 but overall that wasn’t more impressive than the 5 guys I picked.

Brett Butts
I understand Brett has left the Mississippi team and gone to Orlando for treatment and to rehab his arm. Any more news on this? He was having a great year and I was hoping to see him in Gwinnett soon. He is from the metro Atlanta area (East Coweta HS) and I know a lot of people are pulling for him!

You already know more about what’s going on with him than I do. I didn’t even realize he was on the DL until I was writing this story up.

Mississsippi
I would say just about the whole Mississippi team. After watching them Sat and Sun, they couldn’t hit water if they fell out of a boat.
Guapo12 - June 7, 2010
Yes I would have to agree with that! To say that both the AA and AAA teams are struggling to score runs would be a understatement! Hopefully we will focus on drafting some position players that can hit and play the game!
