Kaleb Cowart, Delino Deshiels (not junior), or Edward Salcedo in the first round. I’ve heard good things about that Salcedo kid. He’d be a helluva draft pick.
i like it how when someone does something awesome we attribute to that person terrible illnesses and questionable character traits. right now venters is a silly fuck on his death bed.
If you want to stay somewhere, you must play at a certain level. And you have to be willing to make sacrifices. Tony Gwynn made sacrifices. Cal Ripken made sacrifices. I’m not sure Derek Jeter made sacrifices given the ungodly deep pockets [the Yankees] have.
I would, if I felt they could find a competant replacement
Chip is lightyears better than Fred Hickman, as sad as that is. He’s much better than Jordan, and better than Gant too. Those are the other guys who’ve called games for Atlanta.
Wagner shuts them down.
Then the braves score in the bottom of the 12th. Could we get 2 runs in? Sure, maybe chavez gives up a run or two… but then… it would be tied again…. But the point is… wags would have given us a chance to win. The “closer” role is so stupid.
What is the difference between Wags in the 11th or wags in the 12th?
Actually….I’d disagree, in this game especially…..and here’s why.
The Dodgers had a head start on us in burning out their bullpen. So, if we’d just gone through our relievers in order of best to worst, we could’ve outlasted them. We’d get down to their worst reliever, who is the only one left, with his arm already tired, and he’d give up several runs.
And you know this how? We didn’t score any runs. In order to win we had to score at least one more run. We did not do that. As long as we did not score the game wasn’t going to end so you don’t use your closer until you’re trying to end the game.
It’s a fairly safe bet that you’re going to score some runs once you get down to a scrub pitcher (see: Chavez, Jesse), and especially if he can’t throw the ball harder than 70mph anymore because he’s already gone a couple innings.
This isn’t about Chavez being in there. Obviously he shouldn’t have been in the game. He’s terrible. It’s about the people that wonder why Wagner wasn’t in there.
Sorry, I’m just pissed at Chavez for throwing a guy with no hits, coming off the bench, ahead in the count and throw him something off speed with you can throw 95.
Losses like this happen. It just stings more because Chavez gave it up. I mean would we be mad at Wagner if he gave the game? (Definitely, but he’d never do something like that.)
sure, he’s not the greatest, and he gave up the game-winning hit, but if our defense doesn’t perform like shit, and if we hit better (especially with key opportunities and RISP and NOT FLAILING AT BALLS TO END A RALLY) then chavez wouldn’t have been used.
Yes it was a team loss, a lot of strikeouts and failed RISP chances. But the team held on to a string of hope, till Chavez cut it with his giant machete. (i.e. menacingly bad pitching)
problem is he does it repetitively. He just cannot get hitters out. He never has been able too and there is no reason why he is on this team over a Stephen Marek or Mike Dunn or Craig KImbrel
you’re right. but why does bobby bring him in? if omar gets the runner in from 3rd with <2 outs, or any other scenario that scores the go-ahead run, chavez wouldn’t need to come in
1) Braves sucked in RISP today.
2) Braves sucked in defense today.
3) Braves did decent
4) Chavez blew the game
5) If we had scored one more run, we wouldn’t have lost.
(I don’t think the Braves have lost a game in which they scored 5+ runs.)
I wasn’t mad when Heyward struck out to end the game a day or two ago. But we all have reason to be mad that Chavez even poked his head out of the dugout. I feel bad for the man, but I don’t know why he pitches.
Chavez as a kid: Chavez now. WALKS KILL! Join the CIA, or stop walking people.

Dear Dr. Pepper, calling Michael Strahan a “football legend” is a stretch.
BullManUGA - June 6, 2010
fuck yourself chavez
bpk228480 - June 6, 2010
Jesse Chavez = complete crap
SouthernPanther - June 6, 2010
THIS IS WHY WE DON’T PUT IN CHAVEZ WHEN WE HAVE WAGNER AVAILABLE.
HURR DURR IM SAVING WAGNER FOR TEH SAVEZ
kbertling353 - June 6, 2010
and we have kimbrel available too
kbertling353 - June 6, 2010
Chavez is So good. Some Peeps don't know shit! :(
HEYJUDE - June 6, 2010
chavez is so bad
JasonHeywardisGod - June 6, 2010
I can't even begin to describe my anger at this moment.
TheLetter2 - June 6, 2010
Let's see - speed up the batter's bat - BEYOND STUPID
NCChopper - June 6, 2010
If it wasn't official before, it is now....
Chavez is Manny Acosta 2.0…..must be some rule about every team having an Acosta.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - June 6, 2010
why isn't he in the minors
JasonHeywardisGod - June 6, 2010
THIS
SouthernPanther - June 6, 2010
Not another one
Lennox - June 6, 2010
+1
Smoltz's Beard - June 6, 2010
Also, if you didn’t think Chavez would lose this game, you’re either senile or an idiot.
BullManUGA - June 6, 2010
all our outfielders have shit arms as well
not that that would have mattered
bpk228480 - June 6, 2010
Why couldn't bobby just put in Billy Wagner?
i mean wtf. seriously. That was such a dumb move. it was beyond dumb.
Braves Biceps - June 6, 2010
You don’t put in your close while tied in extras on the road.
BullManUGA - June 6, 2010
just because it’s the unwritten rule doesn’t mean it’s right
Smoltz's Beard - June 6, 2010
and we still had Kimbrel….
EricGreggWasPaidOff - June 6, 2010
It's not an unwritten rule
It’s just common sense. Wagner is not going two innings. So if we hold them, then we take the lead, who goes in? Jesse Chavez probably.
The Goche - June 6, 2010
what if....
Braves Biceps - June 6, 2010
Your closer is your best bullpen pitcher. You don’t waste your best bullpen pitcher when the game is tied and is in no sight of ending.
BullManUGA - June 6, 2010
Actually….I’d disagree, in this game especially…..and here’s why.
The Dodgers had a head start on us in burning out their bullpen. So, if we’d just gone through our relievers in order of best to worst, we could’ve outlasted them. We’d get down to their worst reliever, who is the only one left, with his arm already tired, and he’d give up several runs.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - June 6, 2010
And you know this how? We didn’t score any runs. In order to win we had to score at least one more run. We did not do that. As long as we did not score the game wasn’t going to end so you don’t use your closer until you’re trying to end the game.
BullManUGA - June 6, 2010
It’s a fairly safe bet that you’re going to score some runs once you get down to a scrub pitcher (see: Chavez, Jesse), and especially if he can’t throw the ball harder than 70mph anymore because he’s already gone a couple innings.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - June 6, 2010
Once again, I agree, Chavez should not have been in the game. However, Wagner should not have been in there either. We had other options.
BullManUGA - June 6, 2010
The game is as good as ended if Chavez is pitching.
Joseph_C - June 6, 2010
This isn’t about Chavez being in there. Obviously he shouldn’t have been in the game. He’s terrible. It’s about the people that wonder why Wagner wasn’t in there.
BullManUGA - June 6, 2010
My bad. Who else (other than Chavez or Wagner) could’ve gone in? Kimbrel?
Joseph_C - June 6, 2010
I think he was still in the pen, yeah.
BullManUGA - June 6, 2010
You shouldn’t put in Chavez, Period.
Joseph_C - June 6, 2010
DFA chavez
fucking please
JasonHeywardisGod - June 6, 2010
FUCK YOU AND YOUR FAMILY CHAVEZ
GoBravesNY - June 6, 2010
A tough loss.
Resop please.
fandave - June 6, 2010
In his entire life, was Chavez ever any good at pitching?
Joseph_C - June 6, 2010
damn dodgers
Jtpdolphins2009 - June 6, 2010
Well...
at least Philly lost…
Tonley - June 6, 2010
I much rather have Dunn or Resop instead
bravesforever16 - June 6, 2010
Walks KILL in late innings - always.
Well, when WE give them they do. We’ve had several today and failed to take advantage.
NCChopper - June 6, 2010
I wake up every morning loving the Soriano-Chavez deal.
RufRider - June 6, 2010
what has chavez done this year that gives bobby any confidence in him at all?
SouthernPanther - June 6, 2010
a 7.33 ERA perhaps?nothing at all.Joseph_C - June 6, 2010
Alright, later guys
GoBravesNY - June 6, 2010
Chavez sucked, but if our batters wouldn’t swing at so many balls we might have had Wagner in already going for the save.
sleezer1788 - June 6, 2010
And if the defense hadn’t failed horribly, the game might not have even gone to extra innings….
EricGreggWasPaidOff - June 6, 2010
Exactly…plenty of blame to go around in this one.
sleezer1788 - June 6, 2010
Well I mean, a split isn’t terrible… but the two games we lost were very winnable. We’ve got the DBacks next, right?
BigG1392 - June 6, 2010
A split isn’t terrible, but this loss was.
Joseph_C - June 6, 2010
carpengui - June 6, 2010
the thing that sucks
is this was another game of RISP FAIL
SouthernPanther - June 6, 2010
And failing to keep runs from scoring directly after we scored.
BullManUGA - June 6, 2010
Ugh, i dont even want to talk to anybody. dumb
Gage23 - June 6, 2010
+ 1
HEYJUDE - June 6, 2010
+3 billion
Joseph_C - June 6, 2010
kudos to the offense for shutting down early tonight as well
I guess a split is what we were going to be content with sigh
bpk228480 - June 6, 2010
Well, 2-2 split is better than losing the series.
Onto AZ and kick some ass!
NCChopper - June 6, 2010
Like that’s hard.
Joseph_C - June 6, 2010
Let’s SWEEP the failbacks!
BigG1392 - June 6, 2010
I'm going to punch Marc Roberge in the crotch.
TheLetter2 - June 6, 2010
Chavez to the minors
saipol - June 6, 2010
Resop
Saw the guy pitch the other day. much better than chavez
RufRider - June 6, 2010
THIS TOWN, THIS CITY, THIS CROWD
bpk228480 - June 6, 2010
lol
BigG1392 - June 6, 2010
Still not sure why we even think Kimbrel will be the closer of the future
if he can’t ever get into the game when it matters
fphjr01 - June 6, 2010
I’d take almost anybody over Chavez..
Joseph_C - June 6, 2010
Because Bobby Cox won’t be managing the bullpen next season?
EricGreggWasPaidOff - June 6, 2010
Give up the game winner to a guy with 6 hits all year.
NCChopper - June 6, 2010
Did we really need that salt rubbed into the wound?
Really? :(
EricGreggWasPaidOff - June 6, 2010
more like a gash.
Joseph_C - June 6, 2010
Sorry, I’m just pissed at Chavez for throwing a guy with no hits, coming off the bench, ahead in the count and throw him something off speed with you can throw 95.
NCChopper - June 6, 2010
Apparently, you’re also so pissed off that you can’t even type coherently….it’s ok, I understand.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - June 6, 2010
That was necessary for you I guess.
Have a good rest of your Sunday.
NCChopper - June 6, 2010
Ummm…..I was commiserating?
EricGreggWasPaidOff - June 6, 2010
Show me a Braves fan who isn’t and I’ll……..disagree with him.
Joseph_C - June 6, 2010
Jesse WicKolb was pitching for us. What do you expect?
BullManUGA - June 6, 2010
*Jesse AcWicKolb
EricGreggWasPaidOff - June 6, 2010
i don’t understand why Dunn is in AAA and Chavez is up here?
jdmarine - June 6, 2010
I'm off to feed the hubby - at least I can make HIM happy.
.

See every one in AZ for .. l the sweep!
NCChopper - June 6, 2010
F’n A Cotton! F’n A! How sweep it will be!
jdmarine - June 6, 2010
Good evening!
HEYJUDE - June 6, 2010
And to you! Sorry I couldn’t join the fun earlier! Was shopping for clothes and getting haircuts for my lil’ ones!
jdmarine - June 6, 2010
Sweet
We missed you!
HEYJUDE - June 6, 2010
Chavez
pitched like crap in ST, should not have even made the team. Then Bobby puts him in this tie game. :(
HEYJUDE - June 6, 2010
Man I love this team! That one really stings though!
jdmarine - June 6, 2010
+1
HEYJUDE - June 6, 2010
He’s the pitching Nate McLouth.
BullManUGA - June 6, 2010
Hmmm…..I’m not sure if that’s more of an insult to Chavez or McLouth….
EricGreggWasPaidOff - June 6, 2010
Probably McLouth. He’s won a game this year.
BullManUGA - June 6, 2010
McLouth tries. I’m not sure about Chavez.
Joseph_C - June 6, 2010
Losses like this happen. It just stings more because Chavez gave it up. I mean would we be mad at Wagner if he gave the game? (Definitely, but he’d never do something like that.)
Joseph_C - June 6, 2010
No
because Wags has proved he is a competent pitcher!
HEYJUDE - June 6, 2010
i don't understand the chavez-bashing
sure, he’s not the greatest, and he gave up the game-winning hit, but if our defense doesn’t perform like shit, and if we hit better (especially with key opportunities and RISP and NOT FLAILING AT BALLS TO END A RALLY) then chavez wouldn’t have been used.
it was a team loss today.
atl192485 - June 6, 2010
Yes it was a team loss, a lot of strikeouts and failed RISP chances. But the team held on to a string of hope, till Chavez cut it with his giant machete. (i.e. menacingly bad pitching)
Joseph_C - June 6, 2010
problem is he does it repetitively. He just cannot get hitters out. He never has been able too and there is no reason why he is on this team over a Stephen Marek or Mike Dunn or Craig KImbrel
jaypatel - June 6, 2010
you know
you’re right. but why does bobby bring him in? if omar gets the runner in from 3rd with <2 outs, or any other scenario that scores the go-ahead run, chavez wouldn’t need to come in
atl192485 - June 6, 2010
Because everyone but him contributed SOMETHING today.
BullManUGA - June 6, 2010
sure
but some detracted from their contributions.
atl192485 - June 6, 2010
Donkey shit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!jfnjfn;jfnw;o jh;oijdwokgijnudwrifogk3ijnrfgjio0gkibjundwjitkg0obkji wy0kfnokonr2fkorejngfjgrikbjnfwjrfobdkfjrokfjirofeirjgfrekjrfrwik FML FML FML FML FML
WHY JESSE CHAVEZ!! Why did he take out Venters, did someone pitch hit?
atlbraveschamps - June 6, 2010
Venters wasn’t going to go 3 innings….but Kimbrel could’ve come in.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - June 6, 2010
I think everyone realizes that
1) Braves sucked in RISP today.
2) Braves sucked in defense today.
3) Braves did decent
4) Chavez blew the game
5) If we had scored one more run, we wouldn’t have lost.
(I don’t think the Braves have lost a game in which they scored 5+ runs.)
Joseph_C - June 6, 2010
Duh, I forgot they did use a pitch hitter but why FUCKIN CHAVEZ!!!!!!! Get Resop or Dunn up here now. He might be as bad as Jo Blow Reyes
atlbraveschamps - June 6, 2010
ummm
pinch?
kreese555 - June 6, 2010
I wasn’t mad when Heyward struck out to end the game a day or two ago. But we all have reason to be mad that Chavez even poked his head out of the dugout. I feel bad for the man, but I don’t know why he pitches.
Chavez as a kid: Chavez now. WALKS KILL! Join the CIA, or stop walking people.
Joseph_C - June 6, 2010
Yes that isn’t home plate, or a pitcher, but still reminded me of Chavez. Sorry. :p
Joseph_C - June 6, 2010
At least Javy won today.
Joseph_C - June 6, 2010
Who is worse- Kolb, Chavez, Acosta, Wickman?
atlbraveschamps - June 6, 2010
reitsma
MacsGlasses - June 6, 2010
Kolb by infinity furlongs.
BullManUGA - June 6, 2010
Um, JoJo Reyes!?!
MBL1 - June 6, 2010 via mobile
Hi
When Saito comes back, send Chavez down to Myrtle Beach and keep Kimbrel!
Losing hurts :(
