Gwinnett 1, Scranton-Wilkes Barre 2
Freddie Freeman played in his first game in a week and a half and collected a single and 3 walks. The only real knock on his season so far has been his surprising lack of walks, so it's nice to see him get back in the lineup and take some free bases. It took him 2 months, but Brandon Hicks has climbed over the Mendoza Line. Chris Resop continues to be effective, despite taking the loss.
Mississippi 2, West Tennessee 4
Donell Linares plated both Mississippi runs by driving in Antoan Richardson and himself with a home run. As much as I love Wes Timmons, I think it's worth moving Linares up to AAA to see what he can do. Realistically, he's 26 yeras old, he can either hit at the higher level and maybe help you in the Majors or he can't. Either way, it's worth finding out. After a few good starts, Scott Diamond has had a pair of bad ones, allowing 8 earned runs in his last 11.1 innings.
Myrtle Beach 4, Salem 6
Julio Teheran is human. Which is to say that he's not always amazing. If 2 earned runs in 5 innings is the worst things are going to get for him, then I think we'd all be very pleased.
Rome 5, Charleston 6
Another Braves affiliate loses to another Yankees affiliate as Chris Masters has maybe his worst start of the season. He uncharacteristically walked way too many, and even allowe more hits than he usually does. Myke Jones is on a 8 game hit streak that has seen him go 13-31, that's a .419 average, with 2 doubles, 3 homers, and 9 RBI in that span with a 1.212 OPS. Not only has he played well enough to dig himself out of a seemingly inescapable hole, but I think he's played well enough to earn a promotion to Myrtle Beach.
DSL Braves 1, DSL Rangers 2
So every Braves affiliate lost tonight. 19 year old Eduardo Castillo pitched well, allowing just 1 earned run, but his team didn't score any runs for him. I'm not sure if the game ended early because of rain, or if they just do whatever they want in the Dominican, but the game was completed after just 6 innings.

Chris Resop!
He got KKed today. Had the one run lead going into the seventh, and hung one pitch he shouldn’t have that landed just over the left field fence. So he leaves with the loss, despite only allowing 5 baserunners in nearly 7 innings. We’re getting really close to something happening with him, it’s clear.

hopefully, he’s brought up and makes some serious contributions to our march to the WS.
fandave - June 6, 2010
won;t be for at least a few days after a start
I can see him getting one more start, and then the decision is made. Be it a call up to replace Martinez or Chavez (or Kimbrel if he struggles again), or if we get a serious offer from another.
Mr. Sanchez - June 6, 2010
What's wrong with Teheran!?
/freakout.
Bronn - June 6, 2010
god.. it seems like resop pitches every other day amirite?

frozendesert - June 6, 2010
well said
fylr71 - June 6, 2010
The best thing about Teheran?
No walks. I’ll take that every day of the week, despite the abominable 2 runs on 6 hits.
Scott Coleman - June 6, 2010
He’s basically the next Mark Redman.
TradeAndruw - June 6, 2010
Demote him. He needs to work on some things....
flyers13 - June 6, 2010
Like How to Strike Out 14 guys on even less than 104 pitches.
flyers13 - June 6, 2010
The DSL Team played two games
They won the second one 6-5
Salcedo 2-3, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 1K
R. Briceno 5.0IP, 3H, 2R,0ER, 8K’s, 0.00 ERA

Hitting Streak, meet Jordan Schafer.
Let’s try to make this a habit, shall we?
Little Lady - June 6, 2010
how’s Linares defensively?
fandave - June 6, 2010
Merely adequate...he's got kind of a big ass and looked a little slow to me when I saw him last year at MB.
He’s not better than Conrad, Thurston, or even Wes. And he couldn’t play any other positions besides 3rd.
Can’t really see him contributing much beyond being in games so “Those Guys” can play….
Maybe in another org…but he’s worth more to us playing than he would be in a trade i bet, considering we don’t have much in the pipeline at 3rd.
Our solutions for any problem that might arise at 3rd are band aids for now…handled at the Major League Level by backups or Free Agents.
Eventually i hope Esco would move over for Salcedo in 2-3 years. And that Glaus could fill in maybe next year , etc….because honestly, I really hope Chip decides it’s time.
flyers13 - June 6, 2010
He could play 1st.
cbwilk - June 6, 2010
this weekend
caught both games this weekend and he looked pretty good defensively to me. His bat is good as well. He fought every at bat. one at bat he fouled off probably 7 pitches. He has the best bat on the whole Miss club. Their offense is down right anemic.

Jace Whitmer - anybody got a take on this kid?
He’s a 22 year old at Rome, playing 1B after previously being a C. From Powder Springs, GA, and attended Kennesaw State College. 17th round pick in ‘09 draft. 6’4", 225.
last year, basically, just got his feet wet and had very little production in 145 PA, mostly at Danville, but then also at Rome and (interestingly) a few game at the Beach.
so far this year, is raking with a .340 avg .903 ops and 7 xbh in 15 games. ridiculously small sample size of only 57 PA, but still …
maybe a sleeper prospect?
fandave - June 6, 2010
He’s enormous. That size listing doesn’t even seem big enough.
cbwilk - June 6, 2010
With the way he's playing I wonder what they do at 1B once RSF is healthy...
both are of the age where Myrtle might not be a bad idea.
Mr. Sanchez - June 6, 2010
like Hefflinger, Cody, Milligan and others, if big and and can stay in shape, be somewhat agile and capable of avg defense), I’m interested. oh, most importantly, gotta hit.
fandave - June 6, 2010
Can someone tell me what happened with.....
Zeke Spruill, Andy Otero, RSF and Tyler Stovall. It seems I havent heard anything about any of these guys this year. Are they all injured or what?
chopc - June 6, 2010
Spruil and RSF are injured...
Otero and Stovall in extended spring.
Mr. Sanchez - June 6, 2010
One problem
It’s not really spring anymore…at least, it doesn’t feel like it
MBL1 - June 6, 2010 via mobile
That’s why they called it Extended Spring Training. I’m sure these guys will pop up in a few weeks when Danville and the GCL start playing.
cbwilk - June 6, 2010
What’s been going on with Cody? Haven’t heard anything in a while. Is he hurt or just been playing that bad lately?
Mcannstheman - June 6, 2010 via mobile
Hasn’t been playing well. He wasn’t playing much last week, I think because he had a minor injury, but this week he’s just been going 0-fer.
cbwilk - June 6, 2010
Who is RSF?
jaypatel - June 6, 2010
Riann Spanjer-Furstenburg for short. A 1b who was the mbps of the appy league after a pretty dominant showing. He started in Rome.this season but broke his wrist in the first or second week and has been on the dl since
yondaime4 - June 6, 2010 via mobile
MVP*
yondaime4 - June 6, 2010 via mobile
thanks, doesn’t breaking a wrist for a pitcher mean he’s probably done?
jaypatel - June 6, 2010
Read again
yondaime4 - June 6, 2010 via mobile
RSF broke a bone in his hand and had surgery. He’s still rehabbing.
rbravesfan - June 6, 2010
why is Jordan Schafer not doing well? I thought he’d be hitting now that his injury is dealt with.
Our system is stocked with pitchers for the next 10 years. The question now becomes can we sacrifice our major league pitchers for the younguns? Meaning can we afford to not sign anyone else and go with the young boys and trim our pitching staff payroll from 45 million to around 12-14 with Hudson’s contract on the books for 4 more years. With Billy done this year, KK done next year and Lowe after that we can trim our payroll by 30 mil. Now I know we’ll have alot of arbitration eligible players like Escobar, Prado, Heyward, Freeman, Hanson, Kimbrel and JJ that will take up a significant portion of that extra 30 million but we’ll need more hitting and Liberty Media will need to help out somehow.
I know Chipper’s 13 mil will come off the book but we’ll need a replacement for him too and Salcedo may not cut it. Plus we’ll have to resign Glaus if he keeps this up for around 12 mil.
What I’m saying is we need to increase our payroll at the end of this year by 15 million.
jaypatel - June 6, 2010
Wagner will be coming off and the arb eligible guys will cost a few mil more than that. Maybe 3 to 5 MM in raises above Wags salary of 7.5….
Glaus will not command $12MM at his age with his injury history…i’d be surprised if he got more than 3 for $25MM which does constitute a raise for sure. Just not one that’s out of our range.
If Chipper comes off, that should take care of the excess arb fat and the Glaus raise….if he does not, things will be more interesting.
Hoping that Freeman is ready and Glaus can move back to 3rd for a year or two.
Liberty Media has stated that there is some money even now to spend, but we are apparently waiting for the “right” thing.
Hudson is only on for 3 more years after this one, he tore up his option and started his new deal this year.
Shafer’s wrist doesn’t have the requisite strength to drive the ball at this time. He is scuffling….I wouldn’t be counting on him for this year or next at this rate.
flyers13 - June 6, 2010
Hitting is all in the hands and wrists. Schafer had a broken hand that led to him hurting his wrist by trying to compensate.
cbwilk - June 6, 2010
last i heard
Schafers wrist wont be 100 percent until next year
drumzalicious - June 7, 2010
Good to see Freeman playing again and taking walks.
Braves24 - June 6, 2010
I got his autograph in spring training, and he’s so tall it scares me. :P
