Gwinnett 3, Scranton-Wilkes Barre 2
Tim Gustafson had his best start of the season, since his previous best apperance, where he threw 6 shutout innings on May 14th, was a relief appearance. Mike Dunn continues to impress, collecting his 3rd save and getting both of his outs on strikeouts. Jordan Schafer is 6 for his last 17 with a double and 3 stolen bases in his last 4 games.
Mississippi 3, Montgomery 6
It's possible that the Braves made a mistake by releasing Antoan Richardson out of Spring Training. In 7 games with Mississippi, he's hitting .385 with a .818 OPS. Of course, he could just be hot right now. Donell Linares is hot right now, with 5 hits in his lat 16 at bats, including a pair of doubles and a triple. In 8 games with Myrtle Beach Juan Abreu had a 8.22 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP in 15.1 innings. In 10 games with Mississippi, covering 11.2 innings, he has a 0.77 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. That's as drastic a difference as you're going to find.
Myrtle Beach 1, Salem 2
Randall Delgado picks up the loss, despite only allowing 1 earned run. He did allow more baserunners than he had in any of his previous 7 starts, but there's nothing wrong with 6.2 innings, 1 earned run, and 8 strikeouts. Mike Jones collected a pair of hits off his previous team, but the Pelicans didn't get on base much otherwise.
Rome 5, Augusta 3
Things have been going good for Rome lately, and tonight they got good pitching and good hitting. Cory Rasmus continues to pitch well, giving up just 1 earned run in 6 innings, a big improvement over the 4 he gave up in his last start. And David Hale picked up his first win of the season, pitching the last 3 innings of the game. He's made 4 relief appearances this season, and all but one of them have been very good. Kyle Rose collects a few hits, but gets caught stealing yet again. His lack of extra base power has become an issue as well, as his slugging percentage hangs at a lowly .310.
DSL Braves 5, DSL Angels 0
18 year old Jesus Saldeno only allowed 2 baserunners in 5 innings, and though the Braves only got 5 hits in the game, 3 Angels errors helped them secure the win. Fellow 18 year old Ronald Luna, who is a shortstop by trade but DHed in this game, had an RBI single and a walk.

The only thing better than seeing a great line from Randall is that you know your going to get to see Teheran’s line the next day!!!

I’ll try to post some of the shots and video’s from the Gwinnett game last night. It was delayed 30 minutes due to a thunderstorm that rolled through at 6 PM and drenched the field. Schafer had a great game and even stole a base and was really wreaking havoc at the top of the order. Matt Young made a sensational game saving diving catch on the warning track in either the 7th or 8th to save the game for the G-Braves. I don’t think I recorded it at all since it was on the other side of the field, but it was spectacular.
Oh, and Dunn hit 100 MPH on the radar gun last night for the save and routinely hit 96-98 with his FB.

WTF
Why isn’t Dunn up already? Who will they send down when they bring him and Resop up? I imagine martinez will be sent down for Resop, so would Dunn be a September call up? I just think he has been too dominant too leave him down that long

Are we trying to set a record on how many days in a row we can bitch about dunn being in the minors

To me...
he seems destined to be down until September unless EOF or Venters get hurt or begin to really struggle. But who knows what happens with our pitching depth.
It is great to see Schafer getting back on track. A hot week, and people can shut up about how poorly he’s done in AAA when his numbers get closer to normal.
Other thoughts—
Richardson may have been a mistake, but at least we had the chance to correct it by bringing him back if so. And Abreu may have been hurt, cause that discrepency between high A and AA just doesn’t seem right. Lastly, I wonder how much longer Thompson and Sullivan are in their rotation. Neither is doing very well, both could be better in the bullpen, and it’s not like we don’t have people possibly ready to take their place with Delgado and Teheran, or even letting Juan Abreu or Lee Hyde start, letting Reynoso try starting again, or hopefully Kyle Cofield comes back and bumps one of them out of a spot.
Also, on…
The one that wasn’t very good wasn’t a true relief appearance either and was more like a start considering it was the first pitch of the day completing a rain-shortened game from the night before.

Good point on the Hale game. Forgot about that. So yeah, he needs to relieve. I think the thing with Abreu is that he really is that wild and unpredictable. I doubt he was hurt, if anything I think he might have been depressed about being in High A again.

Any idea what's wrong with Cofield or when he might return?...
Sullivan or Thompson can’t both be starters for much longer. They’re both doing pretty poorly, and both, similar to Hale, could be more suited to relief work.
Mr. Sanchez - June 6, 2010
No clue on Cofield. You know how it is, you pretty much have to ask guys directly to find anything out.
