The Atlanta Braves fan confidence went up for the third straight week... and why shouldn't it? The Braves have won nine straight and rocketed to a 3-game lead in the NL East. It's a very different view from the top of the division -- some place the Braves have not been this late in a season for some time.
On May 10th, the fan confidence rating was at a season low of 49%. The Braves were in last place, and four games under .500. They played good ball for the next week and the fan confidence rose to 68%, but Atlanta was still in last place in the NL East, and two games under .500.
Fast forward to last week, when the Braves had finally climbed over .500 and were in the middle of the division standings; the fan confidence rose to 73%. Nine straight wins later and we find ourselves in an old familiar place leading the NL East, with a fan confidence of 82%, the highest it's been since the start of the season.
Enjoy this while it lasts... hopefully it will last, and last...

This just in
Apparently winning makes fans happy.
Fonce - June 4, 2010
I have been an 8 since the offseason and still remain the same
I love this team! Even when we were going through our struggles it was frustrating as heck but I knew it could last all season.
Jay212033 - June 4, 2010
I’ve been a pretty steady 8. I went to 7 during the losing streak, though. Thinking about doing 9 if the team keeps this up.
Joseph_C - June 4, 2010
I also went from an 8 to a 7 during the losing streak, but I’m back to an 8. No fan fickleness from me.
Now if only Bobby would bench McLouth. Is Diaz ready yet?
Sparhawk - June 4, 2010
Wow
I did the same. Consistent 8 but a 7 during the streak. I like you guys.
And no, Diaz won’t be read until probably the all-star break the last I heard.
Jacob Peterson - June 4, 2010
fark on a stick! I need a steady dose of Diaz. I’ve never seen a batter that makes me curse 1 second and then scream with joy the next.
Sparhawk - June 4, 2010
Same.
I’ve been an 8 all season except for the losing streak (7) and the current winning streak (9).
Smoltz's Beard - June 4, 2010
I cannot testify to the consistency of my voting, since this is the first vote I’ve cast.
Fonce - June 4, 2010
My vote is none of your damn business and i’ll thank you to stay out of my personal affairs.
10-4 - June 4, 2010
Although you have no voting record….(according to your profile)
Joseph_C - June 4, 2010
He has sock puppets.
Scores of them.
soup du jour - June 4, 2010
I vote, the problem is that my large amount of comments i make pushes my voting for the last period off the record. But thank you for snooping.
10-4 - June 4, 2010
My bad. Maybe I should mind my own business… :)
Joseph_C - June 4, 2010
We all know you’re one of the people who constantly votes 1, what I don’t know is why you continue to try and hide it.
Smoltz's Beard - June 4, 2010
Wait, I thought it meant this team is number 1, have i been doing it wrong this whole time? How embarrassing.
10-4 - June 4, 2010
Until we get Pujols or Damon...
I’ma keep voting 1 goshdarnit. I might relent and bump it to a 2 if we sign that Jermaine Dye dude or bring back that comedian in the TV booth.
Mr. Sanchez - June 4, 2010
Heyward is the new Pujols, so you should be voting at least a 2.
Sparhawk - June 4, 2010
Nah, he's that right handed slugging 1B we need behind Heyward...
So until Wren trades Glaus and Freeman (and only those two) for Pujols, I’m keeping it at a 1. Do it Wren, or suffer my wrath!

Mr. Sanchez - June 4, 2010
I bet you voted for Pat Buchanan too.
BullManUGA - June 4, 2010
The ballot was confusing
Mr. Sanchez - June 4, 2010
+1
Futurama references…….always a good decision.
UMDBHIK - June 4, 2010
Futurama is coming back!! woo hoo! Do the Bender!
Sparhawk - June 4, 2010
Eh, I'm not that excited...
more a wait and see approach to see how good it is. It’s been a while since the first go-round, and second comings aren’t always better. The movies thing didn’t really get my anticipation up, and the Simpsons have been crap imo for a decade or more.
Mr. Sanchez - June 4, 2010

hmmm.....I must have missed this poll.
Don’t see it anywhere.
lol, Oh well, Go Braves!!!
Chief Noc-A-Homa - June 4, 2010
I love this team. Right down to the 25th guy on the roster
MBL1 - June 4, 2010 via mobile
I do not love Cristhian Martinez or Jesse Chavez. Their uselessness was pretty apparent last night when the lefty Venters was brought in to finish off the right-handed Martin. What’s the point of having an extra pair of right-handers in the bullpen if they aren’t going to be used in more than just blowout situations. I agree you probably need to keep one of them, but not both.
KLB - June 4, 2010
I love Chavez just fine
Don’t love Martinez at all though.
Jacob Peterson - June 4, 2010
that
Chief Noc-A-Homa - June 4, 2010
Venters has been very effective against RHP so I didn’t hate the move. But I agree with your statement about blowout situations…frustrating as hell.
Smoltz's Beard - June 4, 2010
This has to be be the all the band wagon fans here. The Braves have a horrible organization and it is the only team owner by a corporation in the League. They constantly bring in recovering injury players cheap or over the heal veterans cheap. They got bailed out by drafting Hayward and Hanson. I have not forgot the last 5 years of trimming payroll and allowing studs to walk away from Atlanta but offering contracts far below what the player is actually going to get so that they look like they are trying when in fact they are only trying to cut payroll so the executives can divide the profit and laugh at the fans of Atlanta for accepting this garbage. The 4 week roll has been great but Atlanta needs a real owner who wants to win first. Cox has to go and he will thank god this year and I will miss him dearly but he is not as sharp as he once was. Finally if you gave this organization over a 5 you are not very bright or a very avid fan. We have traded away great players for less than nothing and let Texierra walk away, and much much more so pray that Hayward is sent from God and that his energy can ignite the veterans and cause the younger players to hustle more and play winning baseball more because if your not doing that when Hayward is on the field then you are looking like a complete fool because Hayward is hands down the best baseball player at 20 that this league has ever seen and he will win triple crowns and championships but watch closely because they Braves should offer a ten year deal right now for 100 million but they will penny pinch and pay him what his contract says for 3 or 4 years and at the last second they will try to compete with the Yankees and Red Sox for his services in free agency but will loose miserably. The Braves have to sign him now to a decade long contract and start paying him rather than risk being cheap and waiting. Massive Braves fan but also not fooled by the smoke and mirror corporation that owns the Braves right now.
BullManUGA - June 4, 2010
*Heyward
lol
Chief Noc-A-Homa - June 4, 2010

UMDBHIK - June 4, 2010
LOL
I love that epic 153 word sentance near the end.
bbxxj - June 4, 2010
*sentence
bbxxj - June 4, 2010
I saw that long sentence-paragraph and just skipped it. My eyes think it’s really ugly to look at.
Sparhawk - June 4, 2010
OGT needs to make a comeback, right now
fphjr01 - June 4, 2010
you really should have blockquoted this, because people are gonna think these are your actual thoughts.

Oh I know.

bpk228480 - June 4, 2010
this hayward fellow
sounds pretty good
lingsched - June 4, 2010
You are welcome to your opinion, and I hope I am welcome to mine. I don’t feel like a fool for voting 8, because the Braves are in the race for the best record in the NL and our Minor League system is ranked as top 6 in baseball. If that is a sub-5 vote, I can’t imagine the scale you use.
bighop - June 4, 2010
TROLL
what the hell is wrong with you rabble rabble rabble….ban this guy rabble
bpk228480 - June 4, 2010
It does have one interesting point...
10 yr/$100m for Heyward right now? Good deal or bad deal?
Mr. Sanchez - June 4, 2010
After next year, good deal….after this year, bad deal…..just my opinion.
bighop - June 4, 2010
I can agree with that
Mr. Sanchez - June 4, 2010
It would make 12 yrs for $101M overall, and probably keep him here for his career. That’s my thinking.
bighop - June 4, 2010
Although...
if he finishes this year and then produces next year like he has so far, it’d probably take more like $120-150m as opposed to just $100m. You gotta think that after arb, he could get $20-30m+ per on the open market so he’d be selling himself way short on the back end.
Mr. Sanchez - June 4, 2010
Absolutely
He only signs a 10 yr deal with Atlanta if this is where he really wants to be. If he wants more, he can get it, no doubt. I think a 5 or 6 yr deal is more likely if he wants to go FA.
bighop - June 4, 2010
Anything to keep Heyward is a good deal. Even if he had to play every position at once, he could still do it because….he is Heyward.
Joseph_C - June 4, 2010
What's the all-time high for fan confidence?
Go Braves
Thomas Hunt Morgan - June 4, 2010
This year, 82%. Before this season IDK (Wasn’t on TC) But probably right after the World Series in ’95?
Joseph_C - June 4, 2010

Sparhawk - June 4, 2010
THE BRAVES SUCK FRANK WREN IS A YANKEES FAN..WHY ELSE WOULD HE TRADE JAVY VAZQUEZ TO THEM FOR MELKY?!? WHO? CAUSE WE SHOULD’VE TRADED KK BECAUSE HE DOESNT WIN GAMES AND WENT 7-12 LAST YEAR. HE OBVIOUSLY DOESNT WANT TO WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP BECAUSE HE NEVER SPENDS MONEY EITHER LIKE HE GOT TROY GLAUS AS A BRIDGE PLAYER TO GET TO FREEMAN!!! WHY FRANK WREN?! WE SHOULDA TRADED EVERYONE FOR ADRIAN GONZALEZ CAUSE HES A GOOD HITTER. MAYBE WE SHOULDA TRADED KK AND THEN A SPARE PART LIKE JORDAN SCHAFER BECAUSE HE SUCKED LAST YEAR.
FIRE FRANK WREN
Scott Coleman - June 4, 2010
Melky is a contender for MVP
but other than that I completely agree
bpk228480 - June 4, 2010
best bunter in the league, baby.
Scott Coleman - June 4, 2010
Don't forget...
MELKY CHOP.
It amazes me, every time.

cthabeerman - June 4, 2010
FRANK WREN SHOULD CHOKE ON A HOTDOG!!!!!!!!!
MBL1 - June 4, 2010
a big New York one, cause, you know, he’s a Yankees fan.
Scott Coleman - June 4, 2010
Now let me get this straight.
Are you saying Frank Wren is a Yankees fan?
Fonce - June 4, 2010
WHY ELSE WOULD HE TRADE JAVY TO THE YANKEES FOR MELKY?!?
Scott Coleman - June 4, 2010
Javy cost $11.5M and Melky was less than $4M, Wren is a cost-cutting bastard, that’s what I think, a cost-cutting bastard.
bighop - June 4, 2010
Seriously.
He should’ve just paid Javy’s salary from his own pocket.
Jacob Peterson - June 4, 2010
Seriously
I hope you realize I wasn’t serious
bighop - June 4, 2010
Surely you can't be serious...

Pot paging kettle.

anyone notice how the fan confidence graph looks like a W?
it’s like it’s trying to tell us something, man
atl192485 - June 4, 2010
pointy boobs are good?
10-4 - June 4, 2010
This bears repeating. Boobs are just good.
Sparhawk - June 4, 2010
Suitcase full of cash?
Buried under the big “W”
bighop - June 4, 2010
To me, it looks like a “W” as in… WINNERS
NCChopper - June 4, 2010
George W. Bush is running TC?
UMDBHIK - June 4, 2010
It is a W! For win!
ZOMG! ALERT THE MEDIA
MBL1 - June 4, 2010
somewhat OT
Accuscore gives us only a 22% chance of winning the division despite having the biggest division lead in baseball. what gives?
15ks - June 4, 2010
Best guess….they don’t expect the Phillies to slump the rest of the season
bighop - June 4, 2010
because we are playing in by far the best division in baseball
washinton is the worst team in the division and theyre still right at .500 with Strasburg coming up in a few days. And the phillies will not keep playing the way they are the whole season, so this division is still by far the most competetive and most unpredictable in baseball. Cant wait for Spetember, its gonna be one hell of a race!
CoxXx - June 4, 2010
ummm…. NL you mean.
AL East gets hyped endlessly, but that doesn’t mean it’s overrated. Rays and Yankees are better than ANY team in the NL, and the Red Sox are really good too (just think when their pitching regresses back to where it should be). Toronto is playing really well, and Baltimore wouldn’t have that record if they didn’t have to play the BIG 3 every other day.
Seriously, Atlanta and Philly are good… but there’s no way the Marlins, Nats, and Mets are anywhere near the talent level of the AL East.
NL East is probably pretty close to the NL West for the best division in the NL.
Overall:
AL E > (AL W, NL E, NL W) > AL C > NL C
kbertling353 - June 4, 2010
NL East > NL West
Chief Noc-A-Homa - June 4, 2010
How in the hell does the AL W rank anywhere in the same league as the NL E or NL W??
-C
cthabeerman - June 4, 2010
That was the only one I didn’t know where to put. Oakland and Texas are good, the Angels always seem to win despite their roster construction and Seattle isn’t near as bad as they’ve been playing. You’re probably right, though. Let’s put them under NL E and NL W.
kbertling353 - June 4, 2010
who gives a shit?
at this point, im used to everyone doubting us. i love it.
Scott Coleman - June 4, 2010
Accuscore hates Amurrica.
UMDBHIK - June 4, 2010

NCChopper - June 4, 2010

MBL1 - June 4, 2010
By the way, happy National Donut Day, everyone!
MBL1 - June 4, 2010
Having nothing to do with baseball, I still must celebrate.
The world is a special place because of people like you! Thanks for the excuse to eat more donuts!

Does anyone know if it is “donut” or “doughnut”?
Joseph_C - June 4, 2010
Doughnut is the original word and Donut is an accepted variant.
At least that’s what the Dictionary said. ;-)
