This thread is legendary. Ten years from now, when people are talking about the great Kawakami, you can say “Yeah, I was on talking chop when he got his first win of 2010.”
Very few things are asked of posters around here, but a lot of people feel GD is over the line. Think of others just a little bit and everything will be great. No need to offend or step on others toes, just leave that phrase off for others sake.
however I am a Christian too, however being that no one actually knows the true name of God, and that most of what we practice is from the Roman Catholics and a load of horseshit, I would say that arguing whether or not “goddamn” is more offensive than “mf’er” or even “sweatypants johnson” is based solely on what you allow to offend you, and not any better or worse.
Can’t stop anybody from offending anybody else, but if it is so easy to leave off the “N” word, it ought to be that easy to leave off “GD”. But if folks don’t want to put forth the effort to be decent to others, there’s not much can be done about it.
i just think if you start policing “GD” where does it end? I mean, I love that I can type “fuck” and no one cares…but shouldn’t they? Seems like a can of worms I don’t want opened. But if someone is genuinely offended by something, it shouldn’t be too hard to avoid that phrase, or at least try. And anyways, Wagner comes to damn AND save at the same time…
because I care; it’s not my favorite word to hear fifty thousand times a day. I realize it’s accepted here, though. That doesn’t mean everything should be…..
I care, and have commented to the fact. I hate that in order to be on my favorite teams most informative blog, I have to see that crude word typed over and over each night. Of course, if we are losing, it is used even more. Let’s have Fun but at the same time be respectful.
Yeah, but if we aren’t even going to be decent enough people to not refer to Catholicism as “horseshit,” do you really think we’re going to leave off “GD”?
I was trying not to. And I’m not going to go through all the corruption of the Roman Catholic church from it’s inception to now because I think it’s silly to do so. However I didn’t mean to piss anyone off, I was simply making a point as to the name of God and how it is not His true name, therefore I am not offended by it being used in “vain”.
I never meant to attack Catholics personally, I am a Christian. The horse shit I was referring to was that of the Church itself, the entity of the Roman Catholic Church. Not Catholics individually.
You used Wags four days in a row last week, then he got the whole White Sox series off and had an easy inning last night. He should be available unless there is an injury we don’t know about.
Ughh this is just not good. I don’t get lots of the decisions today. Why use Heyward as a pinch-runner if he might need a DL stint? Why insist on giving Wags the day off when he should be available? Not good. Maybe we don’t want KK to get a win.
Wasn’t his best of the year. I’ll go with the 6 innings, 0 ER, 8 K start he had in ’Zona. Maybe even the 6 IP, 0 ER, 5 K start against the Reds.
Heck, that start against Pittsburgh, where he only allowed 4 hits but gave up 2 runs, was a pretty damn good start too. He was unhittable until the 7th, and he just grooved one pitch to Jeff Clement that tied it up. He was really throwing well that game.
It was actually in the first week of the season. on April 8 against the Phillies. Braves had a 10-3 lead going into the seventh inning. Then EOF gave up a single, hit a batter, he exits. Moylan came on and walks a batter and allows two singles. Blaine Boyer (haha) comes in and walks two more! Lastly, Jorge Campillo (haha x2) came in and gave up a single and walk before getting the final two outs. Those four relievers gave up eight runs over five walks, a hit batter, and three singles.
Oh well, at least it didn’t end with a loss today.
He did and I did. This is Karma, coming around to even the score. The Tigers will get a bad call to go in their favor, sooner or later and Hohn will get crabs or something. It will all even out.
personally, on the slow mo replay, I thought strike 3 was on the black when it crossed the plate, but had very late tailing action such that where received by McCann, it looked well off the plate.
Excellent call by the ump.
Oh my god....that curtain call was awesome.
I love this team.

yea, for boesch definitely
but cabrera’s isn’t really out of line, and ordonez always has killed LHP
kbertling353 - June 26, 2010
I mean, even for Cabrera, it’s .150 better than his career splits, which is fairly big margin. For Ordonez, it’s .300, which is a HUGE difference.

Scott Coleman - June 26, 2010

That was McLouth/Heyward’s fault.

that insurance run we got turned out to be HUGE
kbertling353 - June 26, 2010
Think of it this way.
It doesn’t feel so dirty when you think about how the Phillies get to play three “away” games at home. That’s more crappy than any strike call.

sag969 - June 26, 2010
KK ONLY HAS ONE WIN HE STINKS
MBL1 - June 26, 2010 via mobile
The ironic thing is
This was probably his best start of the entire season, but he might be benched if Jurrjens comes back this week.
sag969 - June 26, 2010
Wasn’t his best of the year. I’ll go with the 6 innings, 0 ER, 8 K start he had in ’Zona. Maybe even the 6 IP, 0 ER, 5 K start against the Reds.
Heck, that start against Pittsburgh, where he only allowed 4 hits but gave up 2 runs, was a pretty damn good start too. He was unhittable until the 7th, and he just grooved one pitch to Jeff Clement that tied it up. He was really throwing well that game.
Bronn - June 26, 2010
Hrm
7 IP, 2 H, 1 ER (a bomb to one of the best players in the American League), and 3 BB. Oh, and six strike outs.
THe only game that can really compete is the game in Arizona.
sag969 - June 26, 2010
Well
The Reds are a great offense, and he shut them out over 6 innings as well. Reds score more than the Tigers, by a fair margin.
Bronn - June 26, 2010
Yup
Regardless, Cox has one hell of a decision to make.

TheBraveDude - June 26, 2010
Anybody else
Feel a horrible since of deja vu to last year’s game where nobody in the bullpen could throw a strike?
I think it was against the Phillies, and we must have walked about five players in a row.
sag969 - June 26, 2010
Yikes
sense of deja vu***
sag969 - June 26, 2010
So I pulled out
My awesome copy of Talking Chop 2010 Annual.
Oh well, at least it didn’t end with a loss today.
sag969 - June 26, 2010
I refuse to feel bad. We have had bad calls go against us that have cost us wins. Getting one in our favor is fine with me.
sleezer1788 - June 26, 2010
i agree…no reason to feel bad, but the next time we get screwed, i’ll definitely think back on this game
