List Of Braves Signed Draft Picks

Bill Shanks over at FoxSportsSouth.com (my old job, ha!) has the latest list of draft picks that the Braves have signed:

ROUND - NAME
S – Matt Lipka - SS
2 – Todd Cunningham – 3B
2 – Andrelton Simmons - SS
4 – Dave Filak - RHP
6 – Joey Terdoslavich – 3B
7 – Matt Suschak - RHP
8 – Kurt Fleming - OF
9 – David Rohm – 1B
10 – Matt Lewis - RHP
11 – Chase Shreve - LHP
12 – Barrett Kleinknecht - SS
13 – Brandon Drury - SS
14 – Richie Tate - RHP
15 – Cory Brownsten - C
16 – Dan Winnine – RHP
19 – Tyler Hess - RHP
20 – Jay Mowry - OF
23 – James Gattis - C
25 – Dan Jurik - RHP
26 – Jonathan Burns - RHP
27 – Willie Kempf - RHP
30 – Kenny Fleming - OF
32 – Ryan Delgado – C
36 – Jarred Frierson – 2B
39 – Stephen Foster - LHP
40 – Ian Marshall - RHP

Joe Leonard (3) and Phillip Gosselin (5) are the biggest holdouts so far. The Braves sign both Fleming brothers, and if you'll remember, their dad is the Braves East Coast Crosschecker. I like the last three names on this list a lot. These are three guys I thought would be very interesting signings and could have a better than average chance to come out of nowhere and be solid prospects.

I also like the 25th to 27th pick signings. They are all polished college pitchers, and all have a future as bullpen prospects, with Jurik probably starting out in the rotation. They may not be great, but they seem to be exceptional value for this low in the draft.

If my calculations are correct, we've already signed more players this year (26) than we did last year (24). Obviously the most important player left is Joe Leonard, with Gosselin being second, and the hard signs of Stefan Sabol and Zach Alvord after them. Any three of those players and this draft will be one of the best in recent memory for Atlanta.

Lipka was taken in the S round? Hmmmm

Hey, welcome to the party. It’s almost over, but…

They signed a lot more late picks than usual. I have a feeling that this will turn out to be a very nice draft, if not for impact then certainly for depth. Though I think it will have nice impact too.

Any word on why Leonard’s holding out? I thought he was supposed to be somewhat of an easy sign.

Also, do we have any idea if Sabol of Alvord areleaning one way or the other? I agree with you, either of them would be a major coup.

gosselin just got knocked out of the super regionals a few days ago, so that’ probably why his signing has been delayed

Also, can someone tell me what a crosschecker is? Thanks!

I’d like to know that too

I asked early...

it’s an advanced scout. They come in and double check targets seen by a regional scout.

And as I understand it, they’re really important for establishing the relative values of prospects in a given year. Scouts just evaluate the talent, while crosscheckers have to make comparative analysis.

Any news on Evan Daniel?

Shanks took your job?

They took yur jobbbbb!

Durk A Dur Dur Dur...

So in exchange for Mike Gonzalez, we got Lipka and Cunningham. Looks pretty good-Keith Law thinks that Lipka is immediately the best SS prospect we have in the system.

I'd argue with that

Lipka and Salcedo would be a good smackdown.

I think that Law’s justification was that Salcedo is eventually going to end up at third base. Not sure I agree, from what I know about him. You’re right, it would be a good smackdown.

At the same time

Many scouts are say that Lipka may not stick at SS as well maybe CF/2B but we’ll see.

Having all these guys in line so quickly is great...

we’ve got a little while to play with the budget between the remaining guys and international signings, so I’m interested to see if we can add 3 of those 4 like you say gondee. Plus there’s at least one more singing in the near future with #28 Mertins college career recently ending in the Super Regional.

If that’s the list signed, that means the following are left to get in…
3 Joe Leonard (3B from Pitt)
5 Phil Gosselin (UT from Va who’s season ended recently so he wasn’t really signable until now)
17 Stefan Sabol (C/OF from Cali HS)
18 Zach Alvord (2B from Ga HS)
21 William Beckwith (JUCO 1B)
22 Jordan Buckley (JUCO OF)
24 Evan Danieli (P from Notre Dame)
28 Kyle Mertins (SR P from Cal St Fullerton, whose season just ended so probably will sign soon)
29 Reid Roper (SS from Illinois HS)
31 Jack Reinheimer (SS from NC HS)
33 Albert Minnis (Lefty from Kansas HS)
34 Matthew Fouch (the P from Army, was a SR so I assume the service commit is the delay)
35 Kenneth Swab (C from Va with Gosselin, so may or may not be signing soon with their year recently ending)
37 Kollin Dowdy (OF, HS teammate of #29 Roper)
38 Jacob Wark (1B from Oregon HS, already at Cal for football so extremely doubtful)
41 Spencer Jordan (JUCO P who has said he isn’t signing)
42 Benjamin Waldrip (JUCO 1B)
43 Le’Jon Baker (OF from Cali HS)
44 Ryan Morrow ©
45 Joseph Lucas (JUCO SS)
46 Kendall Logan (JUCO OF, already said he isn’t signing)
47 Francois LaFrenniere (JUCO P)
48 James Mahler (JUCO P)
49 Ryan Turner (JUCO P)
50 Cady Gabella (SS)

You do have to remember that a lot of guys after round 30 or so rarely sign.

Was just listing all the unsigned...

and noted. If we can get between 5-8 more, this will be an awesome draft. I’d assume we get at least 3 more signed (including Mertins, who being a SR and CSF being knocked off by UCLA in the Super Regional, I’d assume signs within the next week).

Cool

Man I was wondering if the Braves had progress in signing more players than the ones I seen some time ago. This clears it up for me good work man, keep it coming.

?????????/

Do any of you guys have any video footage on Leonard I can’t find any on him.

Unsigned notables

Leonard and Gosselin will be signed soon.

Alvord and Sabol will be summer follows.

I was wondering who all had signed.

Great post!
