The difference is that the Royals’ brass is deliberately trying to run the team into the ground, or so it seems. The Braves, on the other hand, are having a player performance deficiency, which is either more or less painful, depending on how you look at it.
I just don’t see Wren showing someone the door, though, if Bobby says no. It may not technically be his call, but for all intents and purposes I think it basically is at this point.
But we are getting to the point where some change is going to be mandatory. Just because it’s Bobby’s last season doesn’t meant the organization should run any differently
That’ll be fun. Cause when the team finally starts to hit all the people on here will attribute it to TP being fired, when in reality it’s just that these hitters finally started breaking out of their slumps.
The success rate of the sacrificial lamb. Like in all sports, someone gets fired, and suddenly there are results. Now sometimes it’s maybe just, but I have to scratch my head a lot of the time.
The manager actually matters somewhat, especially if the team has quit on him (which they obviously had for Hurdle). The hitting coach just doesn’t really matter. Firing him almost certainly won’t improve things.
Maybe it will jolt some of these guys though. I mean, Chipper, Glaus and Heyward are doing their things, but Matty, Melky, Nate and others are clearly in need of a shot to the arm – figuratively.
As I said in a post the other day, my problem with Melky is really the way Bobby is using him. If he was being used like a real 4th outfielder, I wouldn’t hate him. Getting 1 start a week, filling in for an injury, coming in as a defensive replacement, he would be ok.
But he’s getting run out everyday, because he’s the 9th highest paid player on the team, and the 4th highest paid position player. That money should be going to somebody who can at least hit his own weight.
Melky has walked WAY more than Matt. That is why he’s been better. Other than that, they’re about the same. Also, I think Melky has been less brutal defensively.
Diaz and McLouth are losing ABs to Melky, have been from the beginning of the season, because of Melky’s salary. That hurts the team. Had Bobby gone with a solid 3 man outfield with just a 4th outfielder being used like I said above, I’m pretty sure Diaz and McLouth would be hitting much better. But Melky and his 3 million get to play everyday. The 3 million we couldn’t afford to give, oh say…Kelly Johnson, who is making the decision to non-tender him look pretty fucking stupid right about now. I said in a post right after we got stuck with Melky that if he got the 120 starts people were predicting that we would be no better than 3rd in the NL East, and right now it looks like I might have given Atlanta too much credit. Melky is horrible as a starter, and always will be. total waste of money Atlanta can’t afford to throw away.
The only outfielder we have making more than Melky is McLouth.
Diaz is at 2.5 mil, Heyward makes the minimum. Check Cot’s for the numbers. Melky is our 4th highest paid position player behind Chipper, McCann and McLouth. My arguement makes plenty of sense if you spend the 20 seconds to do the research
I don’t get it. What does Milky’s salary have to do with it? Isn’t Nate making more than him? Matty’s barely making less than him. Milky has walked more, but they’ve all been pretty brutal & all have had their fair chance.
I don’t get it. What does Milky’s salary have to do with it? Isn’t Nate making more than him? Matty making about the same? Milky has walked more, but they’ve all been pretty brutal & all have had their fair chance.
Because hitting a baseball is all about timing and adjustments. McLouth can’t make them if he’s been a starter his whole career and now loses 3 starts a week to Melky.
Here’s the thing. Panicking might be a bit much, but there should be alarms going off. It’s not April anymore, we’re approaching the middle of May. And this isn’t just a slump, it’s been this way all season. And if we get swept, which is a real possibility, we will be 8 games behind. That’s a lot to come back from. A whole hell of a lot
Standing at the exit of the clubhouse with some other people waiting on autographs, the only view I got was of the back of his head as he made a bee-line to the bus.
In the last 18 innings… this is just sad. I would gripe about Lowe’s performance but when we’re hitting this terribly it doesn’t seem to matter. 7 runs is like 20 right now.
Well, it was such a long winter without baseball – it’s gonna take a LOT more than this to make me stay away.

Major history alert: No 47-year-old pitcher has ever thrown a CG shutout. But Jamie Moyer has a one-hitter thru 7 against the Braves. (via Stark’s twitter)
and it sounds like the groin isn’t getting better.
With this offense, if Heyward isn’t playing along with BMac and Esco, it’ll be hard to even watch the games. I used to be so excited for Braves games and would even think “Yesss…only 3 more hours until the game!!!” and now, with the lineup we’ve had the last few nights, it’s like “Oh, Braves are on now. Guess I’ll watch.”
“Yes, I can’t wait til the braves start!” and then we start, and suck, and I am holding a pencil to my eyes so I don’t have to watch our production anymore…
Holy shit am I glad I left when I did. I’m sorry guys, I love them, but I couldn’t take it anymore early on. And here… Moyer throws a two hitter. Hooooly fuck. Guess there’s always tomorrow.

I don’t think the no-hitter was necessary for TP to get the axe. I’m calling Monday morning
royhobbs - May 7, 2010
As much as I think that would be unjust
It’s going to happen soon if the team doesn’t start hitting consistently.

I agree
royhobbs - May 7, 2010
what if bobby doesn’t want it to happen?
atl192485 - May 7, 2010

royhobbs - May 7, 2010
if wren wants to fire TP
bobby will probably say no. just sayin’
atl192485 - May 7, 2010
Bobby doesn't have say-so there.
It’s Wren’s call.
Jacob Peterson - May 7, 2010
You honestly think Bobby wouldn’t carry some degree of weight in decisions about his coaching staff?
J-Freak - May 7, 2010
I didn't say "no weight"
I said it wasn’t his call. And it isn’t. Wren is Bobby’s boss. Frank might ask Bobby’s opinion, but Bobby can’t stop him from doing anything.
Jacob Peterson - May 7, 2010
I just don’t see Wren showing someone the door, though, if Bobby says no. It may not technically be his call, but for all intents and purposes I think it basically is at this point.

But we are getting to the point where some change is going to be mandatory. Just because it’s Bobby’s last season doesn’t meant the organization should run any differently
royhobbs - May 7, 2010
I don't think so at all
Wren is a GM. He makes tough calls. Just look at the Glavine thing. I’m sure Bobby didn’t say “dump Glavine”, but Wren did it.
Jacob Peterson - May 7, 2010
That’ll be fun. Cause when the team finally starts to hit all the people on here will attribute it to TP being fired, when in reality it’s just that these hitters finally started breaking out of their slumps.

The success rate of the sacrificial lamb. Like in all sports, someone gets fired, and suddenly there are results. Now sometimes it’s maybe just, but I have to scratch my head a lot of the time.
royhobbs - May 7, 2010
Like the Rockies last year.
justincredubil02 - May 7, 2010
There may be some merit to making that decision though – like the Rockies firing their manager.
justincredubil02 - May 7, 2010
Well there's a difference
The manager actually matters somewhat, especially if the team has quit on him (which they obviously had for Hurdle). The hitting coach just doesn’t really matter. Firing him almost certainly won’t improve things.
Jacob Peterson - May 7, 2010
Maybe it will jolt some of these guys though. I mean, Chipper, Glaus and Heyward are doing their things, but Matty, Melky, Nate and others are clearly in need of a shot to the arm – figuratively.

Jacob Peterson - May 7, 2010
As I said in a post the other day, my problem with Melky is really the way Bobby is using him. If he was being used like a real 4th outfielder, I wouldn’t hate him. Getting 1 start a week, filling in for an injury, coming in as a defensive replacement, he would be ok.

FitzFan - May 7, 2010
Look at OBP
Melky has walked WAY more than Matt. That is why he’s been better. Other than that, they’re about the same. Also, I think Melky has been less brutal defensively.

Jacob Peterson - May 7, 2010
Alrighty
Crew’s all here. Going to go drink and look at art.
Keep your heads up everyone, it is still, just a game. We’ll have a 2-game win streak again one of these days, and it will be glorious.
Also, flag the really trollish stuff and we’ll try to check on things
royhobbs - May 7, 2010
Drink and Art?
Interesting combo
eaheckman10 - May 7, 2010
Ummm theres a masterpiece going on right now on tv

Matty D tried to kill Moyer there
BigG1392 - May 7, 2010

bpk228480 - May 7, 2010
We need a clean up hitter not another Blanco minus the speed
Jay212033 - May 7, 2010
take that, moyer
lingsched - May 7, 2010
They need to change the H column to the T column.

BullManUGA - May 7, 2010
why?
they won that game
lingsched - May 7, 2010
Because it is funny?
BullManUGA - May 7, 2010
So, 5 runs in 6 innings isn't a good start for Moyer
but 7 runs in 5 innings isn’t bad for Lowe? Nice call Chip
kreese555 - May 7, 2010
This x everything
bravos1984 - May 7, 2010
Chip is a buffoon!
FitzFan - May 7, 2010
Have a nice night everyone.
Jacob Peterson - May 7, 2010
Good luck with the recap. It’s certainly a ton easier writing after a win than an emberassing loss.
Scott Coleman - May 7, 2010
Well so much for having the matchups in our favor
bpk228480 - May 7, 2010
Time for a nice tall glass of whiskey.
Smoltz's Beard - May 7, 2010
I’m gonna have about 8 in a few hours. Not too sure if i’ll wake up for the 1:05 start tomorrow
Scott Coleman - May 7, 2010
i was gonna say its 4 but then I realized I’m an idiot and time zones exist
bpk228480 - May 7, 2010
Dangit. I was thinking I could hit a 10 am PDT start.
AllSaintsDay - May 7, 2010
You waited this long?
bravos1984 - May 7, 2010
105 pitch complete game shutout by Moyer
Beyond embarrassing.
NCChopper - May 7, 2010
/still crying in the corner
kreese555 - May 7, 2010
I’ll second that. Sounds like he did with ease too. The old buzzard probably didn’t even break a sweat.
FitzFan - May 7, 2010
Yeah, in 2 nights we’ve made Scott Olsen and Moyer look like Cy Young and Warren Spahn.
Rhyno18 - May 7, 2010
I’m tired of paing pennence. I want my winning streaks NOW.
bravos1984 - May 7, 2010
yeah, i was trying to stay as positive as possible, but that’s slowly fading away…
Scott Coleman - May 7, 2010
i’m leaning to the dark side, its getting tough.
10-4 - May 7, 2010
another year with an outfield that’s a black hole of suck is really wearing on me. Heyward better come back soon
Rhyno18 - May 7, 2010
and it sounds like the groin isn’t getting better.
Fuck.
Scott Coleman - May 7, 2010
I’ve been watching a lot of the D-Backs this year, especially since we’ve been so bad
Rhyno18 - May 7, 2010
same. they’re a fun team. always enjoy watching the Angels too. they play the game the right way
Scott Coleman - May 7, 2010
not so much that, but more
“Yes, I can’t wait til the braves start!” and then we start, and suck, and I am holding a pencil to my eyes so I don’t have to watch our production anymore…
kreese555 - May 7, 2010
I could never be an announcer
I’d be pissed all the time and could never be objective
bpk228480 - May 7, 2010
At least, I should get lucky tonight…this one is over early.
NCChopper - May 7, 2010
lol, awesome
Rhyno18 - May 7, 2010
fantastic. i’m inspired.
10-4 - May 7, 2010
ZERO WALKS
wow
TheBravestWay To Block A Decent Prospect - May 7, 2010
10-4 - May 7, 2010
The Prophets are not with us.
bravos1984 - May 7, 2010
So the last 4 LHP we’ve faced (Moyer, Olsen, Wandy, Garcia)… and the only one we could muster anything against was Wandy?
BraveSaluki - May 7, 2010
wow, nothing is going positive for us, we get no hi, almost no hit by Olsen and a 47 year old threw a CG shotout against us
Kobe:The Legend - May 7, 2010
Just when i think the offense has sunk as low as possible, it gets worse!
FitzFan - May 7, 2010
Kobe:The Legend - May 7, 2010
better go find a triple, cuz even that doesn’t cover this shit
Rhyno18 - May 7, 2010
SSS!
bpk228480 - May 7, 2010
That's all for me.....
.

NCChopper - May 7, 2010
we should've got Marlon Byrd
Kobe:The Legend - May 7, 2010
Holy shit am I glad I left when I did. I’m sorry guys, I love them, but I couldn’t take it anymore early on. And here… Moyer throws a two hitter. Hooooly fuck. Guess there’s always tomorrow.
strider15 - May 7, 2010
What’s Hank Aaron doing these days?
UMDBHIK - May 7, 2010
He need to get a bat and work TP over with it
Rhyno18 - May 7, 2010
Glaus had a helluva game tonight at least.
strider15 - May 7, 2010
Troy’s been swinging the bat awfully well.
UMDBHIK - May 7, 2010
Could someone find and post the pic of Henry Winkler in The Waterboy
talking on a phone that’s not plugged in and wearing high heels?
kreese555 - May 7, 2010
It's going to be a very long year...
It’s seems like a long time ago when I was looking forward to this season.
