It's always fun to quote the other team's fans, because we've all been there. Here is my favorite comment from Red Reporter after the granny:
Anyone else see that coming, cause I sure did.
Thanks for taking out Rhodes, Dusty.
Might I remind all of the exuberant Braves fans on Talking Chop not to go over to another team's blog and trash them. Even after their team takes a punishing loss on a game that they had in the bag. If you do that and get banned by them, then you'll get banned here too. I've already had to warn one person.
The general feeling at Red Reporter is that Dusty Baker managed the ninth inning terribly, especially, like the comment above alludes to, taking out Rhodes, who had just struck out Heyward and bringing in another pitcher. Why not ride the hot hand. Conrad is hit-less in four at-bats against left-handed pitching this year, and only 2-for-14 lifetime. He hardly ever faces them, and when he does he's not good against them.
Dusty Baker, worst manager in baseball.

Is Dusty Baker worse than Lou Pineilla?
I swear they are the same person.

I don't know
Maybe you should ask Kerry Wood, Aaron Harang, and Jonny Cueto.

Mark Prior is like “What about me? I was the next best thing until I shook hands with Dusty.”
romone_braves91 - May 20, 2010
Eh. Mark Prior did suffer some freak injuries that weren’t Dusty’s fault, like crashing into Mark Giles.
Bronn - May 20, 2010
MarCUS Giles. :)

Chief Noc-A-Homa - May 20, 2010
Since you brought up TP....
In the post game interview it was brought up with Conrad that before he came up to bat he had went over to Chipper to talk to him….yes, about how he should bat against the new guy they brought in…..whoa, hold the bus…I like this 30year old…“Skip the Dip, Go straight to the Chip”…(my quote)
bravestatoo - May 21, 2010
I am infinitely glad that this didn’t happen the other way around. I still remember the 3rd game of the year last year, against Philly. I would not wish that on anyone. As bad as that was, though, this one has to be worse.
Jacob Peterson - May 20, 2010
Man that was bad.

yea
this might help me finally put that game to rest. although last nights bullpen implosion didnt help
drumzalicious - May 20, 2010
I made one comment over there, but it was during the 9th inning, and it was in response to someone complaining about Chip Caray. I essentially agreed that Chip is horrible.
Bronn - May 20, 2010
Skip warped him. lol. What do you expect?
I like Chip, compared to what else is out there right now. GIVE US HICKMAN, DAMNIT!!!!!
Chief Noc-A-Homa - May 20, 2010
Chip’s much better than Hickman or Brian Jordan, I’ll agree. That’s like preferring AIDS to Ebola, though.

Chief Noc-A-Homa - May 20, 2010
lol
Still gleeful about it. Might be because of the beer I chugged right afterward.
Bronn - May 20, 2010
I was surprised
He went with Arthur instead of Cordero in the first place. I know it’s a matchups thing but most managers (for good or ill) go with their designated closer in those situations. I think he felt that Conrad could be overmatched in a way that Heyward was unlikey to be. Don’t know that I would have done it any differently, myself.

AA is a great blog too
With a nice community. They’ve got their own share of idiots, too, but the majority of them are pretty awesome.
Bronn - May 20, 2010
Unexpected from Mets fans…..
MBL1 - May 20, 2010
It’s true, though. Kind of like here-all the other Mets’ communities suck, so the good ones end up on the SBNation blog. Just like there aren’t many other good Braves’ communities. When idiots wander over to AA, they tend to get shouted down by the regulars.
Bronn - May 20, 2010
That still won’t make me like the Mets or their fans. :)
MBL1 - May 20, 2010
I don’t know why Mets fans get such a bad rep. All the ones I know are really, really passionate, but they aren’t assholes like most Philly fans

I’ve said it a million times before but besides this blog, which is the best and my favorite, MetsBlog is actually a fantastic blog. The commenters can be a bit much sometimes but the guys that run it, especially Matt Cerrone, are great at what they do. It’s a great read even for fans of other teams. It’s one of the only things Mets fans have to be proud of, besides Ike Davis.

I’m slightly upset about it. I’m middle of the pack right now. We have a 12 team league. He’s gotta help me out dang it. C.J. Wilson and Jered Weaver didn’t help me much the other night either.
However, my Yahoo Fantasy Sports update thing told me that Tommy had been having flu-like symptoms for a few days. He was pitching light headed and what not. If that’s the case, why didn’t he just skip his start? Geez.
Oh well, I’m happy the Braves won though. Seems like the lesser named guys are showing up more and more here and there in the games recently.
XBEARDX - May 20, 2010
I just went over to RR to look at the comments, and they’re pretty funny. They’re like us in the way that they’re posting funny pictures. One was of a train crash, which i think kind of describes the walk-off on their side.

I was at the last two games...
Game 1 was amazing, because Jason Heyward rules and my friend (from Cincinnati) is a Jay Bruce fan and hates the fact that J-Hey is better than Bruce. So it was nice to see Heyward come through in a big way.
Game 2 was the best ending of a baseball game I have ever seen. My Cincy friend got out of the stadium real fast.
We all have to keep in mind, it is never over until that final out.

Braves = America’s Team
Rhodes = American Dream (in his case his pic is looking a little nightmarish)….yes, I watched him on TV and his act (hate to ruin it for ya CB, that its not real..hee hee) was stolen by the Hulk….(The one where; you can’t hurt me even though you are beating the…bleep…out of me) after shaking like an NFL Def lineman celebratory sack dancer he would stop, his oppenent would stop, after the obligutory stare down he would strike with some type of move and deliver his own knock down blow…in Dusty’s case it was the elbow…(I loved it when he would roll his hands in a circle before it)…..Yes, therapy is going well…why do you ask?

Dear Chase,
I feel like I can call you Chase because you and me are so much alike. I would love to meet you some day. It would be great to have a catch. I know I can’t throw as fast as you, but I think you would be impressed with my speed. I love your hair. You run fast. Do you have a good relationship with your father? Me neither. These are all things we can talk about and more. I know you have not been getting my letters because I know you would write back if you did, and I hope you write back this time and we get to be good friends. I am sure our relationship would be a real home run.

In honor of todays game, a walk-off granny
bravesguy311 - May 20, 2010
I watched this game on Gameday from work (I could watch mlb.tv at work but I’d probably get fired; I have a ridiculous workplace). I was mostly just peeking at it until the bottom of the 9th, where I realized that we had a chance, then a real possibility. I really one of Heyward/Conrad/Infante to reach so that Glausosaur would get a chance to do a walk-off, but Brooksy beat me to it.
Also, Dusty, why do you even have a closer if you’re not going to bring him in to put out the fire? I mean, I’ll take the win, it was one of the best games I’ve ever been around to experience, but I’d have brought Cordero in after Nate’s single to face Ross and Prado. The tying runs was on deck when Ross was up, so it was a save situation, was it not?
Ivan the Great - May 20, 2010
We benefitted BIGTIME from their screwups
3 runs on 3 errors, 7 runs in a horribly mismanaged 9th….we should send a fruit basket to Dusty.
skymuse - May 20, 2010
john maine left the mets game today after 5 pitches due to an injury
their rotation is so screwed. they’ve lost nieve to injury and perez to ineffectiveness, and now their starting five is something like this: Santana / Pelfrey / R.A. Dickey / Takahashi (or TBD) / TBD
atl192485 - May 20, 2010
Sounds good.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - May 20, 2010
Wow
“Prevention and Recovery” strikes again. That’s brutal. And to think, they let Nelson Figueroa go for nothing. They’re probably going to have to put Oliver Perez back in the rotation, the poor sons of guns.
Jacob Peterson - May 20, 2010
Sounds better than good.

Joe Simpson on the walkoff “That’s ridiculous!”
I love Joe.
Seriously. Last I looked the game was 5-0 Reds. So I get home from work and ARE YOU FLIPPING KIDDING ME? 7 run comeback capped by a walkoff grand slam?
BY SHAWSHANK NO LESS?
Wow am I glad I DVR’d the game. I don’t think I’ll be erasing it anytime soon.
Also, the Reds defense was absolutely atrocious today. And Dusty Baker IS the worst manager in baseball. Right now, Rhodes>The rest of the pen.
Finally, Mike Leake is good. If he can get away from Baker, he’s going to be a very good one indeed.
Oh yeah! I FINALLY got to see Kimbrel today. Rusty, but I really liked what I saw.
UMDBHIK - May 20, 2010
Kimbrel is our future closer ~ D. Baker is terrible as are the Reds.
Sorry Reds fans but you are totally pretenders as you have been for a while; that was some of the worst coaching, and playing by a MLB team that I have seen in years. My goodness are you kidding me four errors and you entered the ninth with a six run lead and couldn’t hold it PLEASE ARE YOU FREAKIN KIDDING ME DUSTY BAKER !.
Use your brain stay with the veteran Rhodes would made Heyward look like a total rookie ( which no other MLB pitcher has to this point) and make Conrad face a lefty as well and make him get a hit off Rhodes, no way that happens.
REDS are pretenders and the don’t deserve to have the record they have and be in first place if they are still their which I could care less about.
As for Kimbrel he is going to be a beast for many seasons and help take the sting out of losing J. Devine in the deal that brought Kotsay to ATL for one season or 3/4 of a season that is combined w/ back problems and his being traded at the deadline or after the deadline or whatever the hell ~ who cares.
Kimbrel needs to stay up all season and work with Wagner and learn the mentality of being a MLB closer; he is getting close but just needs more experience and work. Solid middle reliever right now just needs to work and face more live MLB hitters to become a closer. Still though in a year or two fans are going to be cheering for him coming into the game in the bottom of the ninth for sure.
Go Braves.

Honest question here
Do you, you know…actually watch the games?
Scott Coleman - May 21, 2010 via mobile
Doubt it, he strikes me as someone who just reads the boxscores in the morning for most games. Also, Marmol apparently didn’t make Heyward look like a rookie on his strikeout.
Smoltz's Beard - May 21, 2010
Have you watched much Marmol this year Beard?...
I’m not sure how he’s done the past week or two, but for the first month, month and a half, he was making a lot of players “look like a rookie” with that nasty pitch in the dirt. I recall seeing quite a few highlights of him making guys look like idiots on the same pitch Heyward was flailing at.
Mr. Sanchez - May 21, 2010
Yes I have, and he’s on several fantasy teams of mine so I know how well he’s doing. You’re taking my post the wrong way, like I’m trying to insult Heyward or something. I’m just bring it up because HPF said the Rhodes was the first pitcher to make Heyward look like a rookie, which clearly isn’t true.
