Conrad Slams The Braves To A Seven Run Ninth Inning Comeback

Photo

Kevin C. Cox - Getty Images

Wow! Wow. This looked like it would be a miserable day for the Braves. Their ace pitcher gave up eight runs and couldn't get the third out in the second inning. They grounded into double plays to kill rallies. Their wunderkind struck out with the bases loaded in the ninth inning, but then pinch hitter Brooks Conrad stepped to the plate. He was batting in Chipper Jones' spot in the lineup, after Chipper had been lifted in a double switch earlier in the game. On a 2-2 pitch, Conrad hit an opposite field grand slam on a fastball from the Reds closer. Braves walk off with the win.

Cincinnati may have been the team coming into this series known for their comeback wins, but the Braves matched their mojo in game one and topped all of their comebacks in game two. A seven-run comeback in the ninth inning! Capped off by a grand slam that went off the glove of the left fielder, as it was stretched over the wall. That is absolutely amazing.

I promise not to post any more Tommy Hanson mullet pictures. That must have been what jinxed him into having the worst outing of his big league career. Hanson couldn't get the third out in the top of the second inning. After a leadoff single, Hanson recorded two quick outs, and then it all fell apart... helped out somewhat by a radically inconsistent strike zone from the home plate umpire. Tommy walked a guy, then gave up a single, and then a grand slam. Hanson then gave up three more hits and was pulled from the game. The damage in that third inning, 7 hits, 2 walks, and 8 earned runs.

Jesse Chavez, Jonny Venters, and Craig Kimbrel did a great job in relief. Chavez was able to record the third out in the second inning, but gave up a solo homerun in the fifth, which was the only run the trio of relievers surrendered in their seven and a third innings of work. Certainly their good work of not letting the score get more out of control allowed the Braves the confidence to come back and win this game.

The improbably hero, Brooks Conrad. This was the Braves third straight walk off win.

I LOVE THIS TEAM.
I LOVE EVERYONE RIGHT NOW

(at least, everyone even remotely related to the Braves, even the trolls!)

Worth noting

this Braves team has already put together 5 or 6 moments that are as great as any moments they’ve had since the 95 WS title. What a flair for the dramatic.

Walkoff GS = Ecstasy (the drug)

I’m in the best mood I’ve been in all day.

Is it just me, or...

… is anyone else dissatisfied that it barely cleared the fence?

Baseball fans.

Hmmm…..to rec or not to rec….

Whether tis nobler to green this comment...

or oppose it and thus end it.

WHO GIVES A FUCK? We won with an improbable hitter doing it. Just be fucking happy.

Impending Major League reference....wait for it...

“Who gives a shit? It’s gone!!”

you're right

we should worry about our bench player barely hitting a homerun and how much power this team doesnt have on the bench . . .

I thought

It was hit too high.

If this doesn’t inspire a team nothing will

HOTLANTA

That was awesome! Got caught watching the game at work :)…..Time to go on a roll boys….sweep the fuckin Pirates and let’s get er goin!

I'm inspired that there's still Quilvio Veras references.
Also inspiring

The Reds game thread
http://www.redreporter.com/2010/5/20/1480723/game-41-thread-3-mike-leake-is-a#comments

Hahaha

reading this, I noticed that the Reds fans are also making lots of “fisted” jokes. Good to see we’re not alone on that.

Yeah, I’ve been going back and reading some of their older OTs. Those guys are pretty cool. Good sense of self-deprecating humor, open minded fanbase. I think I might start posting over there.

I hopped over there

when we started making a 9th inning rally. Some guy named “RedsMasochist” was complaining about the Braves’ announcers. I had to make a comment.

“If you’re listening to Chip Caray, you really are a Masochist.”

Wow...

There’s some comedy gold in there. Reds’ fans talking about suicide, murdering Dusty Baker and my favorite – the bit about how Conrad was going to be an easy out when he came to the plate.

Well, it's funny in hindsight

But I know I wasn’t the only one worried about a GIDP when he was announced.

In fact, I was bummed when he fouled off that first pitch. It was a great pitch and he put a great swing on it, and I was thinking “Well, there goes his best shot.”

Indeed.

You gotta tip your hat to Conrad…that pitch was tailing outside, and he went with it and someone put enough behind it to get it over the fence. Pretty impressive.

"someone" put enough behind it to get it over the fence....

Yep….there were definitely some angels involved in the bottom of the 9th.

LOL

Meant to type somehow. Well played.

Cue the kid waving his arms at the top of the steps.

I love the sudden turn from making jokes…to getting real pissed off….to making fun of heyward after the K….to having their hearts ripped out….I thought we were a roller coaster

I still can't wrap my brain around what just happened.
I saw the line in the 6th...

I thought for sure we were cooked. These 9th inning rallies are what this team needs to get some swagger back! Go Braves!!

Braves did a lot of this come from behind magic back in 1995. Just sayin’.

Oooooh....Pirates for 6 of the next 9 games. YES!
6 of 9 versus

a team known for getting blown out 30-3 in a series on a regular basis? Yes, Please!

Braves are doomed to go 2-4

How can anyone be negative after a win like that? For shame!

More of a joke really. A joke that will probably become reality.

wow

the bullpen kept us in it, that was the most amazing part.

Jonny Venters better be given a chance to start at this pace

how about closer

for Venters?

now

dont go getting ahead of yourself

I’m impressed…we can’t forget the innings he and Chavez threw that kept it within 8…

Its your fault for reminding us of Tommy’s Kerry lightenberg hair

I loved Kerry’s sideburns. Truly the best I’ve seen.

UNBELIEVALE .....................

OH FUCK ME !!!!

After the Braves went down 1-2-3 in the 8th, I went upstairs and shaved off my beard.

Looks like I’m staying clean-shaven for the rest of the season.

I shaved my beard off this morning. No points for me. :(

It was too itchy though.

Odd coincidence....

I shaved my beard today, too. I did it about half an hour before the game started, though.

lol….gotta love superstitions that comes with baseball.

You gotta admit that it adds something, though. :)

It’s just a hair thing, you don’t have to go too…

just watched the celebration again

meds in the middle looked more like a 12 year old then ever before

Un-freaking-believable…..

Wow. Completely nuts. Ridiculous. Crazy. Awesome. Viva los Bravos.

Dear haters,

Go stuff yourselves. Also, you’re welcome.

Love,
Brooksie

Conrad is THE MAN. That is all.

Ginger punks on haters.

I approve of this message...

Conrad rocks.

At work...

Turned off my Gametracker in frustration…Turned in on as Conrad was at the plate…While not as exciting as seeing the hit, watching the Gametracker go to Final was great, especially when I realized it wasn’t a DP…

I did the exact same thing
Bottom of the 9th for me...

has to be the wildest, craziest, and most unexpected baseball inning I have ever seen in my life. No way a team should come back from being down 9-3 and to win a game on two errors, the Golden Boy rookie striking out the bases loaded, and the guy behind him nicknamed “Hobo Conrad” would do the improbable and hit a Grand Slam Homerun for the win (Homerun was a botch catch by the LF that went over the fence). INSANSE!!!! GOD I LOVE THE BRAVES!!!!!

When everyone was hating Brooks Conrad

I kept the faith. And it paid off!

What an awesome win. Utterly ridiculous. I saw the bottom line while watching Sportsnation and I immediately ran to go tell my friend. This has to give us some momentum.

Damn I forgot this game concluded the sweep of the hottest team in baseball and putting us over 500 for the first time since being 8-8. This game was insane.

Above .500! YES!
DAMN YOU PHONECALL

AUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I would pay money to have been able to see the look on my face after he hit that one out. Definition of a jaw dropper.

You still in shock?

yup
still

5:00

Damn, the last hour has flew by…guess that’s what happens when you are completely ignoring work in favor of something you actually care about.

Pretty sure I should have used “flown”, but whatever.

flew is correct

Actually, no, it isn’t. The use of “has” immediately before renders flown correct. Flew by itself works, but has flown does also.

I yelled OH MY GOD! like 30 times and still didn’t really believed it. I was shock and Brooks Conrad did not even know. (that’s the best part of the story. He was piss then went into homerun trot. AMAZING!)

haha

I jumped out of bed and ran around the house screaming. It was silent. No one was there. So I darted to TC.com where my internet friends would appreciate my elation!

Stupid Gamecast

soooo I usually pay attention the to OT at work because the gamecast is always behind peoples comments. Between the OT and my friend texting me I KNEW the GS was coming but still watching the little dots round the bases for the GS was just pure joy.
Atta Boy Brooks

The Pirates will be crushed and driven before us

and well shall hear the lamentations of their women.

would those lameters be...

the “Pirettes”?

I BELIEVE. I BELIEVE.
soooo
i’m gonna go ahead and call another walkoff……

ericgregg,

are you following me? ;)

I creamed.

Enough said.

Photobucket

Hilarious

and soooo filthy at the same time.

He can't win 'em all!!! Go Bravos, Go!!!!
kimbrels first big league win

you think he’ll remember this one?

Gettin Churchillian all up in ya

Any of you who quit on this game (and this team), I hate you.
Props to the bullpen for managing the game for 7.1 innings and making the memorable possible.

Never gonna give u up! Never gonna let u down! Never gonna ruuuun around and desert u!

U just got RickRoll’d (sort of)

Any of you who quit on this game (and this team), I hate you.

Mother F’ing THIS!

This this thisity this this.

anyone got a link to the GS video?

just go to espn

It'll be on about 100 times between SC and BBTN

Ive kept it on MLB network…every 5 minutes they talk about it as possible best game of the year

finally they and espn give us a little love
It's on braves.com now.
Just... wow.

Completely incredible. This is one of those wins that can really turn a season around.

Yeah, love to go up to Pittsburgh, sweep, and put .500 in the rearview from here in out.

Braves had a game like this

Back in 2004. They were scuffling along in the season, mid June, and were down 7-0 on the road. Put together a huge inning late against the Orioles and it really turned the season around, put them back in the playoffs.

I remember when that happened

though I stupidly had turned that game off. Not this time. Hopefully this win spurs us to the playoffs just like that one did.

Good old J.D Drew with the 2 run homer.
Also, Nick Green

Maybe Brooks Conrad is this year’s version of Nick Green.

Great comparison

Brooksy’s got more power, but they’re the same kind of scrappy AAAA-type guy who always help us with clutch hits.

I don’t think Green hit a homerun that season that wasn’t in the 9th inning.

+1

Scrappy players that endear themselves to the fans

Eric Hinske

Is like a super awesome Chuck Thomas.

lol

Those two guys have absolutely nothing in common. But sure, why not? I can’t say no right now!

lol

racist.

Just from this standpoint-back up left handed outfielders that became starters and had lots of success. Also were quickly fan favorites.

But Chucky T

was skinny and had no power, and Hinske is monstrous and has tons of power. Chucky had no real MLB experience, Hisnke is a grizzled vet. And so on.

Hey

Chuck had a decent .157 ISO that year. Don’t hate!

I love Chucky from that year. But he’s done absolutely 0 since. He was a fluke. A fluke I’ll always have fond memories of, but still. He’s not in Hinske’s league at all.

Yes

This is a much more talented team than the one we had in 2004. Especially if Chipper’s luck changes a little bit and he gets his power stroke back.

Still, this is the type of season that could win Bobby another Manager of the Year award. That’d be an awesome way for him to go out.

+1

On all counts.

Are you kidding me? Chucky T is STILL paying dividends even today. John Schuerzholz used his evil warlock magick alchemy and turned Chuck T into Tim H.

Yeah

that was an awesome trade.

Well

The big piece in that deal was a lefty named…had to look it up, it was Dan Meyer.

He's still kicking around

Marlins reliever now. Pretty decent, but not what the A’s hoped he’d be.

That would make sense considering he’s on the Marlins now.

I was telling the bartender about this in the 4th...I still had no idea that this would happen today!!

Glad I learned my lesson from last night’s game. Turned it off top 8 up 4-0 and missed Heyward’s walkoff. Didn’t make the same mistake today. You’re my boy Brooks, and go Bravos!

I still have a glazed look on my face. That was unbelievable. That’s the kind of comeback that you almost never see. You dream about it, sure. “Hey, if we get a few guys on here, get a hit or two, Grand Slam, boom, a win!” But it just doesn’t happen. Major props to all the hitters for not just packing it in. They were still working the count and putting up great at-bats in the 9th.

Special notice goes out to the bullpen for their fantastic work keeping us within 8. At the time, I was just glad that they ate some innings, but they only gave up 1 run, and that enabled the awesome 9th inning.

When that ball bounced off the top of the fence and went over, I just about lost it. So awesome. I really can’t express in words how awesome. Congratulations to the team, and to everyone who didn’t turn the game off!

Damnit Pac

I just wrote my confession below, along with an apology…LOL

My apologies to the TC faithful....

I was one of the people that turned it off after Hanson was pulled, but I did, in fact, tune into Yahoo for the 9th.

Granted, I’m at work, but still, if you wish to fire away, I still deserve it to a certain degree. Oh yee of little faith, I suppose.

I was at work

…so unfortunately I missed the game. It’s pretty depressing……

http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?&c_id=mlbcontent_id=2315272

check out the ump making sure brooksy touches the plate

Yeah, I noticed the ump too

Of cousre, watching it 5 times, I started looking at different things.

he was making sure they all touched the plate
Thanks for the link.

I’m going to watch that on a loop for the rest of the day.

I love watching the fan reactions the second it clears the wall.

Someone needs to make a picture of home plate

with the following words scrawled on it:

BROOKS WAS HERE

Great fucking movie.

I can’t believe someone did that in their own house, that’s awesome.

Best movie ever, btw.

It's funny

Brooks’ nickname is Red.

whoa

my mind = blown

no, to me it meant

Brooks was here (so was Tommy Hanson). haha, just to stick it to us.

Awesome. I might watch the movie now.

You've never seen Shawshank Redemption!?

It’s one of the greatest movies ever made….go watch it NOW!

Yeah I have seen the movie. I meant watching it again.

Ok, good.

Don’t have to ridicule you…

How long has the game been over? I feel like it just ended. I just saw the celebration for the first time. I forgot to watch as it was happening.

? for all haters that showed up only to gloat on a blowout in the game thread

You like bananas? How ya like them bananas? Bitches.

+1
Is that the evil monkey in the closet?

Nope, it's Gunter. He's pretty smart, but only when wearing the hat.

Futurama FTW!

mention the names!

I dont know if I count:

well, I gotta go to study for a final exam tomorrow, here is to hope the braves come back!!
take care everybody

I think

there were some non trolls throwing in the towel as well.

You're clean kid...

not you at all.

I'm throwing in a celebration Grizzly.

Almost threw a rally chew in in the 9th but I didn’t want to anti-rally. Good thing

Heading home to grab a few beers in celebration

Catch up with you all tomorrow…

i think it's safe to say that if any Braves fans have the means, they should get BOMBED.

RIGHT NOW.

going out for my friends bday tonight! yeah something else to celebrate

Everyone has to WOBO tonight!!!!!!!!

(Walk Off Black Out)

About to head ot the liquor store now. I am thinking of making a new shot in honor of Brooksie.

Rumplemintz and Aftershock. I’ll call it Little Red.

That sounds pretty damn good actually.

I’ll let you know how it turns out.
If I remember.

Big fan of rumplemintz

Dude, any alcohol sounds good to you. You were drinking Mad Dog 20/20 while eating pizza in Baltimore last year.

Ehh…I’m still not entirely sure that happened.

Oh it did…you killed that Mad Dog like a 14-year-old girl!

I could have sworn I see a half finished 20/20 in the hallway of my hotel when I was leaving the next morning. Maybe it belonged to someone else…I’d like to meet that classy individual.

Nothin wrong with Mad Dogggin’ it every now and then. Take off the white wig!

I don't think there can be a more satisfying 2 game sweep

This one feels damn good. Can’t imagine how much poontang Brooks is going to get tonight.

He put his hoo-hoo-dilly WHERE?
My first Talking Chop post ever...

…and my two memories from today:

1. Screaming from my seat “Brooks, you gotta run the bases!!!!”
2. Brandon Phillips staying at his position for probably a couple minutes after the ball cleared the fence.

Wow!

Welcome to the team

Great day to jump on board!

in the video...

his eye black makes it look like he’s balling tears.

Thats The Type Of Clutch Hittin We Been Needin

Isnt that 3 Games we won by one run & 2 out the last 4 that we’ve came from behind & won?!?! Man I Love This Freakin Team

Go ATLANTA Braves!!!!

Im still going crazy

AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

I said it in the game thread last night that this years team is different. Last year these guys would have gone out there 1st pitch swinging just to go home.

This is perhaps the most epic regular-season win I’ve ever seen.

Best Comment from Reds fan when Cordero came in:

what is that brown thing??

Shit hitting the fan

I think….I think it’s poo.

I love this graph so much.

We’ve had a lot of awesome graphs this year, but this one takes the cake.

I love

That the Reds were 99.9% to win the game in the 9th inning.

actually

99.8%, but not that big a difference

Check the top of the 9th

After a single by Hernandez, it went to 99.9%

ah

good catch. that means the braves beat 1-1000 odds instead of 1-500 odds. wow.

Braves Country:

Where 1-in-1000 odds just make the inevitable win that much more enjoyable.

Great day

even better game

Brooks on ESPNnews, live!
First walkoff grandslam in baseball

since Dunn in 2006.

Yes. Adam Dunn, who is KNOWN for the long ball.

Just amazingly awesome and incredible. I think there is only 1 other Brave less likely to do that, and that’s our lovable Melkman.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcczT1cHBhg

DL’d. Thanks for the heads up, that’ll be gone by nightfall.

Probably
The best part is the shot of the dejected Reds fans just standing there speechless.

Tied with Phillips looking like he’s gonna cry

Phillips' look is awesome.

For me at least. Dejection is awesome for other teams.

Yep, I’m gonna go taste the Redreporters tears in a second.

I love that solo Natinals blogger

that says we have one of the worst offenses this season so far and were ranked 14th in runs scored…

solodrummer?

he comes here sometimes and is usually pretty cordial. Of course, being a Nats fan all these years is hardly conducive to brash, outlandish behavior…

or souldrummer, whatevs
Yea

He’s alright on here but over there I guess he thought none of us would see.

Typical, being amicable with whatever fan-base he's stalking at the time

Granted, it’s much better than trolling but…And I just finished reading their lamentations. Consider me full, those tears granted sustenance! What a great win. I’m still watching the walk-off. I can’t get over it.

Same here.

I was depressed I had to watch updates on gamecast via phone, but watching the walk-off satisfies a lot.

Yep, I've watched every game but I think 4 now.

What a helluva a week to not pay your DirecTV bill, huh? FML

Well

He was telling the truth at the time.

Even after today, we’re middle of the pack.

top 2 in May, though.

We dug ourselves a huge hole in April but we’ve made good progress already on getting out of it.

Middle of the pack is not one of the worst in the league, and I believe the Natinals are ranked below us. Some nerve.

Did you see

Votto with his hand up, hopping, thinking he caught it? Hilarious!

My favorite part of the whole thing

Votto making the victory sign while Brooks strongly considers spiking his helmet, only to have everything go topsy turvy two seconds later.

someone needs to make his confused trip around the basepaths into a gif

That would be hysterical.
I'd love to see

Someone plot the path on a map of the infield from an aerial view, highlighting like drawing a play up on basketball or something.

Following the turn around first, the u-turn between first and second, then the spin back to second base and the hopping into home plate. That, as a .gif, would make me laugh for years.

That would be amazing.

Don't say I never did anything for you folks

What did you do, record it off the TV screen from in the living room? :)

Let us not make this the new top left graphic on the main page.

I just used the youtube video that Surgeon posted.

Rec’d!!!

Hey, what was the answer to the trivia question today

Last Red to win ROY ?

Scot Williamson, 99 I think

(I wikipedia’d Major League Basball Rookie of the Year)

*baseball

Hard to believe Votto didn't win it

To see him now.

Well, I never said Wikipedia was reliable….

baseball-reference agrees

Just weird. Need to look up Votto’s rookie year.

Ahhh

He was rookie con-currently with Soto. Soto had just as good a rookie year, and did it as a catcher. Makes sense now.

I was having a pretty shit day at the office too and then BAM!!! I love this team!!

I LOVE IT MORE!!!!

CyborgHanson48
GRANDSLAM WALKOFF BY TEAMMATE CONRAD BROOKS ALTERED CPU:: PERHAPS HUMANS AND AUTOMATONS CAN COEXIST IN GAME OF HUMAN BASEBALL

I had to watch updates via my cell phone

But it tastes just as good watching the replay.

IT AINT OVER TILL ITS OVER!!!

Man, I love you guys and gals

you love me the most cuz I’m the special-est.

Hugs all around!

Did you hear....

That JJ’s forbidden from running onto the field and jumping all around because of his hammy? He has to just sit there in the dugout. Wow, that stinks.

Poor JJ....

I’m sure he was celebrating on the inside.

Yeah, I’d be really angry that I couldn’t go out there and celebrate. By the way, Diaz’s thumb surgery was successful, and the best part is that it wasn’t done by Dr. James Andrews. The three words that every athlete fears.

Athletes fear the words

“you’re going to need surgery.” I’m sure they love Dr. Andrews. He’s saved hundreds of careers.

But good to hear about Matty.

More like “You’re going to need surgery and it’s going to be done by Dr. James Andrews”
He must be so freaking rich. It’s true, he’s saved a ton of careers. But when Andrews is called in, you know it’s serious. That’s what I meant, really.

dr. andrews should be inducted into the hall

A bust of him, holding a scalpel.

I agree. Not joking.

this

he should be in MLB, Football, College Football, and maybe Basketball (although I have never heard a b-ball player go to him) HOF.

Nascar?
People get injured a lot in racing.

i’m kidding, of course

Why? He has legitimately altered the course of the sport. How many players owe their careers to him? I really believe he belongs in the HoF.

oh, i just say that because we all know something like that would never happen

I’m sure athletes are more scared of Dr. Bob Gerwin, since he never does any ligament surgeries. They avoid him all the time.

Funny

I visited the game thread and it was 8-0 and half the posts it seems were saying I’m outta here and a lonely voice or 2 saying ya gotta support the team.

Congrats, choppers. Nice comeback.

brooks conrad postgame interview

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etav77ajENM

His narration alongside a .gif would be epic.

Man! Today of all days to miss TC and the game! Great Game Braves! I’m gonna have to find somewhere to see a replay of this game!haha

My brother was driving from Gainesville to Tampa and had the GameCast on his cell phone. He said he almost swerved off of the interstate….

It’s okay, if he crashed Conrad or Heyward could just spit on him and he’d be fine.

Oh my dear sweet god!!!!

I was keeping up with the box score till the top of the 9th. Then I had to do some driving for work. I am soooooo fu**in jealous of those of you who stuck it out and got to watch that comeback. Yesss!!!! Did I read right? Yunel blew a perfect chance to hit into a double play and kill the rally? There’s allways tomorrow buddy. Go braves!!

Didn't you hear?

A home run IS a rally killer.

Just watched Conrad’s journey around the bases. LOL!

Is there some way to get CyborgHanson48’s (I KNOW IT’S SOMEONE HERE!" tweets up on our main page when he makes them? They’re always hilarious.

when I saw that ball being hit I thought it was gone

until he jumped and I thought " ah crap" than the ball bounced right out his glove and then I jumped around the living room like a banshee lol

Awesome

Quick bio that no one cares about but I have to write out anyway so I can tell you how fun this comeback was.

I grew up a Braves fan in AR watching on TBS in the mid 80’s (I’m 31) and when I graduated college from OU (Oklahoma) I moved to Cincy to work. Three years ago my wife and I moved to Charlotte, still a Braves fan but I went to about 100 Reds games and almost every Braves game against the Reds in my five years living there. My wife and her parents are huge Reds fans and my wife’s parents had season tickets 10 rows behind the Reds dugout when we were dating. Now we live in Charlotte, but I happened to be back in my old office in Cincinnati this week working.

Any of you that have ever to been to Cincinnati have heard of Skyline Chili and my co worker and I had a bet for lunch tomorrow on the game today. I’m sitting there through the 2nd inning debacle and gave him cash to buy his own lunch so I didn’t have to order for him. As the 9th inning starts I say “You know, the Reds have been really lucky with all these late game wins. You are due to blow one.” And holy shit did the wheels start turning. I still haven’t seen highlights and can’t wait to watch. But it was awesome watching it all unfold on the gamecast and my co worker being in absolute disbelief when I told him that Conrad hit a walk off grand slam (which I got from you guys on the game thread before it posted to the gamecast).

Sorry for the long post, but this one was too sweet!

That's awesome! Did you get your lunch paid for and your money back?!

Stickittodaman…

Ha! That was the best part and I left it out. So my coworker, who is a big big Reds fan, is all hacked off about the loss and slamming/banging around logging off his computer for the day and I said. “Hey, I need my money back but you can’t give me money, you have to order my lunch”.

Actually the best part was the walk off GS, but you get the point! HA!

THAT

is fantastic.

Hey CharlotteChop,

tell your wife I’ve got a Jonny Bench baseball card and a jonny Bench autographed baseball from the 1994 world series(no I didn’t go, I was just about 1 year old but an old friend of mine gave it to me). She will be impressed

What u selling them for? Her dad is 60 this weekend, would be good brownie points haha

I’m not so sure how much clout a 94 series artifact carries though :)

1994, eh?

That was a good World Series…. :-p

The Washington Senators won that one!

I'm not selling them for a LONG time
Anyone else a little worried

about Tommy? Second crap start in a row.

Tell me about it.

I have him and Hudson on my FBT and Hudson has been far better IMO.

Look at his last four – 17 ER in 22 2/3 IP

10 strikeouts against Arizona is a “crap” start? He got victimized by Nate McLouth losing it in the lights, which lead to 2 of the 5 runs.

And the guy tried to pitch sick today. Both Hanson and Cox told the AJC he was dizzy and light-headed before the game.

“I was feeling dizzy and light-headed in the bullpen before the game,” Hanson said. “But I’m not going to sit here and make excuses. I’ve pitched sick before and did fine.”

damn. Didn’t know dude was ill. He probably should have been taken out if he was about to pass out.

This is amazing

In the past couple of years, games like this there was no know way we were going to come back and win. These are the types of wins that you know that the team is special and can do something big

We are .5 games out of first now. Not sure when or if WAS or MIA play but they’re 4 back and we are down 4.5 games.

Fuck, .5 out of second. Stupid brain.

Braves now 9-6 in one-run games. 12-14 all others.

I still remember that game in the last week of June 2004 against the Orioles where the Braves were down 8-0 in the 7th and came back to win 9-8. After that game, they went on a gigantic run that put the NL East out of reach for every one else.

Make no mistake: the division is a lot better now than it was in 2004. But games like these spark teams for the rest of the season. They’ve won 13 of their last 20 games and 8 of their last 10.

Nate McLouth and Troy Glaus finally emerging along with Eric Hinske’s explosion has unlocked the potential we all knew this team had. And with all of the Phillies injury troubles, now is the time to strike.

After a dismal April, Glaus is hitting almost .300 now – wow. All of us (including me) that were losing patience with his slow April bat are hopefully rejoicing in his patience and steadiness to trust himself to come around – I know I am.

No, all of us weren’t losing patience with his slow April.

This is PRECISELY

why you shouldn’t lose patience with players in April.

Hanson was ill?

Listened to postgame show on 680 and they were talking about how he was lightheaded at the top of the 1st inning and was about to faint at the top of the 2nd.

Not an excuse, but it sure would explain a very uncharacteristic performance today.

Hanson indeed confirmed that he was pitching ill. He said he felt light-headed and dizzy warming up before the game. He said he wasn’t going to make excuses because he’s pitched sick before and did fine.

In fact, Hanson beat the Red Sox last year while suffering flu-like symptoms. He just didn’t have the magic today.

HAHAHAHAHA
"It was a horrible ending," said Reds manager Dusty Baker, who appeared close to breaking down after the game. "Boy, that was a tough one."
schadenfreude +1
Damn IT Dept

This week they decide to block radio feeds. Last week they blocked TC because it is identified as Social Networking..

I was reduced to watching my phone for Text Msgs from TC and AJCBraves and just decided, for the heck of it, to “go on an errand” at the top of the ninth to listen in the car. After last night, I was not leaving anything to chance.

Man, the radio guy was calling for it from the bottom of the ninth. I had to pull over after McLouth and was honking the horn and shouting by the end of it.

Man what a burst of testosterone that was. I’m gonna be a major stallion with the missus tonight ;-)

Bummer

She has a headache.

Hear that? It's called:

I was soo late to my appointment this afternoon – but they just had to DEAL. I could hardly drive, I was so excited about how this one ended. I was supposed to leave around the 8th, but just couldn’t … ya know just in case they found a way. And I’ll be damned if they didn’t!!

Helluva comeback and I’m beyond excited about the upcoming games this weekend.

You made a WISE decision.

Whoever said in the OT...

They score eight runs we score one run…
They score one runs we score eight runs…

Is a complete winner.

What Happened to...

The MVP LVP and all that Gondeee?

to excited to post it? maybe

LETS GO BRAVES! BEAT THE PIRATES!!

Something I don't understand...

Is why fans of many of these teams we have beaten really think the Braves are a bad team. I saw it on the Brewers site, the Reds site, and even hear it from all the Cubs fans where I live. Maybe it’s just sour grapes, but it seems like they think the Braves are the Pirates or something. I mean, they have good starting pitching (that has the potential to be great if Lowe manages to keep us in the game and KK pitches like he is capable of), they have a great bullpen, they have a decent offense (that also has the potential to be very good if guys play up to their career averages). I just don’t get why the Braves don’t get more respect from other teams. If I were a fan of another team, I don’t think I would really feel that confident in winning (unless maybe Lowe was pitching :))

Well, we were a bad team in April. Playing well below our talent level. Most other fans were probably expecting that team to show up, so when we actually come to play they act like it was an accident or something.

Better to just ignore those posters. One guy on RR was acting like Hanson wasn’t an ace anymore just cause he got roughed up. Really?

Can we get the GT up and goin now??
