…I’m okay with Hamels. Blanton eats innings. Moyer is a bit of a modern miracle, of course. If you ask me who will end up with a better record, probably the Cardinals because they get all of those games against the ’Stros and Buccos. If you ask me who is more likely to win a short playoff series, I say the Phils.

The Phils are the NL champs and the best team until someone can knock them off.

Yeah, if they get far enough ahead and rest Halladay so he can start 2 per series...

then they could be very tough. Blanton and Hamels are good enough to keep them in games where their offense can pick them up.

I still like STL because they have 2 shut down pitchers who can win a series single handedly, but its not clear-cut.

I know that I'd rather the Nats face the Cardinals than the Phils

The Phillies demoralized our pitching. 1-8 those guys can hit. There are no breaks in their lineup and unless you’ve got 3 aces to try to shut them down it’s no fun going against the whole Rollins/Polanco/Utley/Howard/Werth/Ibanez/Victorino/Ruiz lineup. They’ve got somebody better than ours in every spot in their lineup with the exception of wherever Zimmerman is. And they can do that for the whole NL. They only need average pitching to get by.

Contreras was a great pickup for them and gives them the Brad Lidge insurance that they needed to answer some of their bullpen questions. Super smart signing for them at a good price.

Unfortunately, LaRussa is a complete jackbag. It would be much easier to root for them were he not in the picture. Because frankly, watching Albert Pujols hit is a fun thing to do.

I’d say the Cardinals with that pitching. They’re struggling now, but they’re better than the Phillies.

Perhaps statistically so. But last week while he was hitting the ball and with great defense, I didn’t hear many lamenting the absence of Yunel.

I’m not saying give Infante the job as starter, but I just think you should mess with what’s working if it’s winning you ballgames. Then again, I’m no manager, just a chick who likes baseball.
