If it's Monday, then it's the Atlanta Braves fan confidence poll. As always, this poll and therefore your confidence level should encompasses several areas of the team. These areas include, but are not limited to, the team’s ownership, current management, talent, minor-league system, and general playing ability on the field. The poll will stay open for 48 hours, and then the results will be posted and graphed against the previous weeks.

back to 7
Winning 5 of 6 earns an upgrade from 6 to 7 from me. Half of the line up and the starting rotation is still underperforming, so I won’t go higher than that yet.

Still a 9
I think the bats are starting to come around, as I suspected they would. I know it was against some of the worst pitching in the league, but IMO that’s just what the doctor ordered. I would still like to see Chipper bat 2nd and Heyward hit 3rd for now. I think Chipper would get better pitches to hit and with either Glaus or McCan batting 4th, Heyward would still get a lot of good pitches to hit also.
The pitching is still above average, even with Lowe and KK. It looks as though Minor might be a 2nd half or stretch run addition, if another starter is needed.

I’d also like the see Chipper and Heyward flip-flopped, but I’m sure Bobby won’t tinker with the lineup as long as it keeps hitting like it has the past week. I was impressed that Chipper was hinting about swapping spots in the AJC. It shows he has a better understanding of how to put together a batting order than Bobby already. I wonder if Chipper has any interest in being a manager in the future.

from 6 to 7
Can’t get back to 8 until the pitching staff gets figured out. I like Medlen a lot, but he’s probably a downgrade from from JJ. Lowe is my favorite, and can be really good, or really bad. I’ve argued for KK, but he is giving up too many hits, HR’s and runs. I get the peripherals and the lack of run support, but teams are hitting nearly .300 against him, and scoring lots of runs. He was a lot better in his last start, but gave up 3 HR the start before that.
Team looking a lot better this week, with Melky and Diaz out, Hinske in. Glaus making Wren look like a genius, Chipper and McCann starting to warm up. Heyward is SO due to go nuts, watch out Mets.
Don’t know what to make of Escobar. Great player, could be one of the best. Why won’t he perform as well as Infante? I’ll probably get slammed for this, but I can see Escobar getting the KJ treatment if he doesn’t get his sh!t together. Infante isn’t much older, 28, and might be cheaper after Esco hits arbitration next year. Esco better get his head out of his arse or he’ll end up bringing us a left fielder.

Still holding at 9 – as I have all season.
justincredubil02 - May 17, 2010
Justin, that probably is the way to go. Looking at the young base of players and pitching prospects, the future is pretty damn bright.
bighop - May 17, 2010
Welcome, my brother. There is room for all.
justincredubil02 - May 17, 2010
Eh...
I vote lower, but I tend to be a bit of a pessimist in a way. Yeah, there’s a lot of young talent, but none of that talent has shown success here and we’ve had quite a few look great in the minors before being awful with the big club. Good team, playing better, with lots of young talent coming up. The future does look bright, but than can change very swiftly depending on injuries, problems off the field as kids grow older, and other potential mishaps. Until they add Damon or Pujols, the correct vote is 1. Maybe a 2 or 3 if they could add Oswalt.
Mr. Sanchez - May 17, 2010
Baseball is the one thing in my life that I’m not pessimistic about.
Smoltz's Beard - May 17, 2010
I'm often overly optimistic with the teams I support...
and players on them. But I try to balance that internal optimism with the knowledge that I tend to see my teams through rose colored glasses, and the fact that the Braves, as much as I wish they didn’t, have flaws.
Mr. Sanchez - May 17, 2010
Not a bad way to look at it, by any means.
Smoltz's Beard - May 17, 2010
I consider McCann, Prado, Escobar, Heyward, Hanson, Jurrjens, Medlen, Kimbrel, O’Fleherty, Chavez and Melky young. 26 is just reaching a players prime, none of those guys are 27 yet. Some may be traded for other needed pieces, but I see them as a solid, young base. Throw in Freeman and the Minor League pitchers and it gets younger.
bighop - May 17, 2010
I voted 8 due to the awesome lineup change and the emergence of Glaus as a good hitter. I still would like to see improvement from Lowe. In the end, can’t really complain about the team at the moment.
romone_braves91 - May 17, 2010
See? There it is. “The emergence of Glaus as a good hitter.” The dude has been hitting all season, but people just haven’t been watching.
justincredubil02 - May 17, 2010
you're going to have a long, difficult, and unenjoyable life...
if after every PERCEIVED mistake your eyes think you say, you have to correct said PERCEIVED mistake and inform the PERCEIVED mistaken party of their incorrectness.
Mr. Sanchez - May 17, 2010
At least it will be a long life.
justincredubil02 - May 17, 2010
With that style of action...
it could only have a few more days, and it’d still seem like forever.
Mr. Sanchez - May 17, 2010
to you? or him?
he seems to have a pretty fun time doing what he wants.
fandave - May 17, 2010
I wouldn't call a .601 OPS in April 'always hitting'.
Sure he turned it around and is hitting well now, but lets not get carried away here.
soup du jour - May 17, 2010
But, (Sanchez, sorry, but you will see it again), he was knocking the ball just as hard as he is now – only right at people, or people would make web-gems against him. He hasn’t really seemed to change anything other than his luck.
justincredubil02 - May 17, 2010
i voted 1 because i’m an idiot.
10-4 - May 17, 2010
figures
Smoltz's Beard - May 17, 2010
I thought you voted 1 because you mistakingly thought the poll was asking for your RAM speed.
justincredubil02 - May 17, 2010
Zing!I got nothing, but thought that was funny.Sparhawk - May 17, 2010
Trying out some optimism this time.
Moving my 7 to an 8.
NCChopper - May 17, 2010
An 8 again pour moi.
UMDBHIK - May 17, 2010
I hope we have a good week so I can vote 8 next time around.
taney71 - May 17, 2010
wow, it is going waaaay up this week
Bravely going forward - May 17, 2010
Bumped it up to a 7 this week
Been playing good ball lately. If there one game under .500 in two weeks it will drop back to a six. Hope we have a great week. Would love to vote an 8 next week. Go Braves!
Frozen Fan - May 17, 2010
What if they are 1 game under .500, but leading in the Wild Card or division?
justincredubil02 - May 17, 2010
Seriously why so many 10s?
That’s just crazy.
taney71 - May 17, 2010
24 10s are less crazy than 14 1s.
