Braves Help D-Backs Break Losing Streak

Really, there's not too much to say about this game. It kind of sucked (from a Braves persepecitve) on all levels. Tommy Hanson may have struck out a bunch of guys, but he was prone to some run-scoring innings with the help of the lights at Turner Field and Nate McLouth. But we can't just blame McLouth.

He had two leadoff doubles and came around to score on one of them, of course, we could have used one of those doubles when he struck out looking in the second inning with the bases loaded. Basically the Braves couldn't convert anything all night. And when we did finally get to the Arizona bullpen they threw the new guy at us which actually worked. Of course by that point our bullpen had botched the game so bad that it was out of reach.

What you need to know is that Jesse Chavez was so bad that he gave up as many runs in one inning as Tommy Hanson gave up in seven innings. Maybe we should trade Jesse to Arizona.

No really, Rodrigo Lopez was in command all night and kept the Braves hitters in check. And Tommy Hanson didn't have his best game. He was pitching for a DerekLoweWin, but that wasn't in the cards tonight.

Let's try and go get 'em tomorrow. That's about all you can say about this game. Yeah, I started drinking in the fifth inning.

Strange game

How many really hard hit balls did Hanson give up? I can only remember a couple.

On a related note, how many damned bloops are going to fall into that area behind 2B-SS and in front of the CF this year? I’ve seen that movie enough, thanks.

I was looking back through the archives (because I have that little to do thank you very much) and I noticed an interesting little factoid. Last year’s series against the Desert Dwellers went a little something like this:

ATL 4 ARI 3 Game 1
ARI 12 ATL 0 Game 2
Game 3 rained out

So 1 run win by the Braves, followed by huge loss, followed by rainout. Could another rainout be in the works? Stay tuned.

The good thing was that the rain out’s makeup resulted in the Braves hanging nine runs on the Dbacks, with Tommy Hanson delivering a DLW, because he had difficulty slamming the door in the 6th.

I turned this game on late.....

….just in time to see Kimbrel walking lots of batters in the 8th, then Chavez walking to the plate and placing the ball on tees for the batters in the 9th. It was ugly. I don’t want to see another game like this…. :(

For those that care, and that didn't believe my story, here's my proof! I even made her wear my Braves hat. She wasn't too excited.

Photobucket

Time to post the “other” camera-phone pictures you took of her, or we’ll all just think its your sister or something

Actually, I barely saved this one. She deleted the 1st one. The funny thing is, you can see my fantasy baseball score up on my computer. Hahaha

don’t feed the troll…errr

I’m not sure if posting this says more about you – or her.

Oh it definitely says more about me. I’m an ass, and she doesn’t know. But I was told to prove it! I had to…

hahaha I was just messing with ya but yeah she is definitely not fat. She’s actually not that bad looking (maybe b/c of the Braves cap). Props to you for having the cojones to pull it off. Question is does she know she is blasted on a baseball website?

She does not know.

Trust me, the Braves hat is good because it’s hiding her face a little bit and, well, Braves hats on girls make them sexier. Proven fact.

Haha

I’m not even gonna get into this one.

TWHS

AH-hahahahahahahahahahahaha!

first one of these I’ve ever lol’d.

Much better looking than you made her out to be. Please tell me that you prefaced the picture by saying “hey, just put this hat on and hold still for a minute…I got something to prove to my creepy internet friends”.

Haha

I told her she looked sexy and I wanted to take a picture. Then I figured the Braves hat would be a nice touch. She wouldn’t look at the camera directly, but if she would’ve you would know what I’m talking about. Her face is…eh.

the 2010 atlanta braves

making scott olson, jamie moyer and rodrigo lopez look like cy young, tom seaver, and sandy koufax

Actually...

That’s not a new thing. Even the badass mofo teams we had in the mid 90’s were particularly good at making ragamuffin dopes who just got off the bus from Des Moines (i.e., Gil Heredia, Greg Brummett) look like they had invented the art of pitching.

IF we're gonna give them a win, I'd almost rather it be one like this (blowout) than a 1 run loss.

This way, we can chalk it up to just not being our night and some crappy luck – which there was plenty.

Tommy’s line (with his season high 10Ks) looked better than he pitched thanks to their propensity to strike out a lot as a team.

And, the final score looked worse then we actually played. We had men on base all night but just couldn’t get that much needed hit with RISP. Then Chavez took it to the Twilight Zone with his 5 runs after 2 outs in the 9th.

We’ll take the series today.

Rodrigo pitched a heck of a game

This one would have been difficult to win even without shooting ourselves in the foot. Yes, he allowed a few scoring opportunities, but he and the defense did a great job of shutting us down. Nate’s brainfart didn’t cost us the game, and technically his bases-loaded strikeout didn’t either, but if either is removed, this is a closer game and could have been winnable. The game was lost by the end of the 1st inning.

I’m more concerned with 3 offensive patterns that have cropped up over the last few weeks:

1. We get runners to 2nd and/or 3rd with 0 or no outs but don’t get them in.
2. 2-out doubles that get stranded. Also 2-out walks that get stranded.
3. GIDP!!!!!!

Win today and all is forgiven.

Yeah, I started drinking in the fifth inning.

Did you at least get your Tommy Hanson bobblehead?

I decided to stay in Atlanta instead of going to Gwinnett… then I decided to go to the bar to watch the game… then it got ugly.

I hear they’re giving them away in Rome in July (24th). I’m being persuaded to go…but then again I see Sgt. Slaughter is slated to appear at the end of this month. Hmm.

I'm sorry...

but I’m still laughing at the Nate McLouth play. Because man, he looked SO confident that he had that ball tracked, and then all of a sudden you see the ball land on the warning track. haha. It wasn’t one of those where he didn’t know where it was, so covered up…he was there ready to make the catch.

After the 11-1 loss, had to find something to laugh about. He definitely provided it. :)

I was thinking the same thing today.

Seeing Heyward, just at the top periphary of the screen, tearing after the ball like his life depended on it while Nate stood serenely 55 feet in front of it all was, like it or not, pretty damned funny. I’m guessing he’s paying a hefty kangaroo court fine for that escapade.

Chavez is not good.

And I would have started Infante at 3rd, and just let Chipper bat later on.
