The Braves have plenty of players ailing; so many it's getting hard to keep track. Here is a quick rundown of the Atlanta injury situation:
Jason Heyward - The all important rookie slugger is suffering from a strained right groin that has kept him out of the starting lineup and prevented him from playing the field for the last five games. The good news is that he's expected to be back in the starting lineup tonight, though it may still be a game-time decision.
Yunel Escobar - Another Braves player with a strained groin, Yuney should be back by this Saturday, the day he is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list. He was just starting to come around offensively when he got hurt, so let's hope he can pick up where he left off.
Jair Jurrjens - He is also eligible to come off the disabled list on Saturday, but while running in the outfield yesterday he "felt something pop in his lower left hamstring" and apparently fell to the ground in pain. This setback means he is unlikely to be activated from the DL anytime soon. He is to be examined by doctors when the team returns to Atlanta. With Kris Medlen filling in nicely in the rotation, there's no reason to rush Jurrjens. He should be allowed all the time he needs to recover.
Chipper Jones - And back to groin injuries... Chipper has been nursing a sore groin for several weeks, and had a slight reaggravation of the injury while legging out an infield hit last night. He was removed from the 7-0 game and likely remains day to day and another game-time decision.
That's a lot of groin pulls to happen on one team at around the same time. In early June 2008 the Braves replaced their strength and conditioning coach Frank Fultz with Phil Falco, whom they promoted from within their organization. The speculation at the time was that it was due to some of the mounting injuries on the team. Perhaps it's time for another change. Or perhaps three groin injuries in the span of a few weeks is just a coincidence.

I think it’s funny that you say Jurrjens “apparently fell to the ground in pain”… they actually showed video footage of it during the game, and I thought it was pretty clear that he did fall and he was in pain. They showed him being helped off the field. It’s hard to argue with video footage of a live event. ;)

Apparently that’s what happened…
gondeee - May 11, 2010
Maybe she just thinks “apparently” is a funny word..
bwellnjonesco - May 11, 2010
No apparently involved..
They showed it right before our rally in yesterday’s game. During batting practice, he was sprinting from the LF line to the CF wall at near full speed and collapsed like he’d been shot or something. Pretty disturbing.
Mighty Healthy - May 11, 2010
Maybe he was shot, and there’s a big cover-up going on!

Dang conspiracy theorists!!
XBEARDX - May 11, 2010
Well, the video was rather grainy, and I “recall” a grassy knoll…

Jordan Schafer
What is up w/ Schafer ? Last I heard he was @ Rome. Seems he fell of the face of the earth the last few days. Anyone know ?
ggotch - May 11, 2010
He’s re-habbing at Rome. He was in extended spring training before that.
DawgB - May 11, 2010
Here's what he's done in Rome
I kind of expect him to re-join Gwinnett when they come back home this weekend…

Nice to see him coming back well...
now time to see what he can do in AAA.
Mr. Sanchez - May 11, 2010
Great news about Jordan. Pretty good numbers after a year off. I look forward to his contribution later this year. It would be awesome to have Melky back where he belongs. 4th outfielder

JJ
My guess is that our best case scenario is we don’t see JJ for six weeks. Leg injuries seem to linger. Or maybe that’s because I’m an Arsenal fan and I’m just used to players missing months due to hamstring issues.
mdhenshaw - May 11, 2010
It could just be a fluke, but if I were Wren, I’d take a hard look at what the conditioning staff is doing.
redwards95 - May 11, 2010
hmmmm
I’d like to check the “extra-curricular” activities of these players…. so many groin pulls in one month? daaaaaaaant….
traphicg - May 11, 2010

Freddie Freeman
Anyone know what’s up with Freddie? He hasn’t played since 5/6 and I’m wondering if he has an injury (groin?) or maybe they just won’t play him when Heyward is out of the lineup. :-)
Anybody know?
Dave_D - May 11, 2010
Like twins...
one gets hurt, and the other is sidelined too.

Smoltz's Beard - May 11, 2010
Haha.....
HEYJUDE - May 11, 2010
He tweaked something the day before they faced Strasburg in Syracuse and hasn’t played since. Its suppossedly minor, and he’s just day-to-day, but I’ve never heard exactly what it was that he hurt.
Rhyno18 - May 11, 2010
What is the deal with McCann? Is his vision fixed? Is this a going to be a serious problem?
TradeAndruw - May 11, 2010
The vision has only been a problem in night games, according to McCann. Hopefully the glasses will solve the issues at night. If he continues to struggle however, we could see another DL trip for him to get adjusted to glasses again, like last year.
Rhyno18 - May 11, 2010
ugh
man this team has so many pesky injuries right now.
drumzalicious - May 11, 2010
Anyone know if Phil Falco had any runs of repeated injuries in the past when he was training at the different levels? Just wondering if there is a trend in there somewhere.
Pavy848 - May 11, 2010
I don’t know about injuries, but he sure tanked that Sugar Bowl that year…
J-Freak - May 11, 2010
Footsteps Falco!
BullManUGA - May 11, 2010
I lost a ton of money on that Sugar Bowl disaster of yours. What a bloody shambles that was. You could smell the stink all the way back in bloody Wales.
copy and paste is my friend. I couldn’t remember that last part.
Sparhawk - May 11, 2010
Ah horse piss. Replay fail.
Sparhawk - May 11, 2010
Didn't anyone have anything better to do that day?
J-Freak - May 11, 2010
The sad thing is, I didn’t even have to look that quote up.
Rhyno18 - May 11, 2010
Don’t sweat it, you’re among friends. I’ve been known to toss off movie quotes that even other movie nerds find obscure.
