I’m actually not. You’ll notice I was elated at Matt’s catch, Prado’s hit, etc., but to say that that one hit just turned everything around is way ridiculous.
With nobody out that was completely retarded. BMac had no prayer unless they made a terrible throw. Not scoring that run better not come back to bite us.
Insult him all you want, but if you were Snitker and thought we could get a THIRD… count it THIRD run in this game… you would have been shitting your pants and sending him too. :)
I believe I read somewhere that Kenny Powers is based on John Rocker. I love the show and think it’s one of the funniest shows on TV. He’s so over the top it’s funny as hell. “Yeah I was in rehab…I hurt my nose” lol
giganterous lead, long offensive innning, we guard that arm with our lives, as we should. of course the smart thing would be to let him go at least 7 if he can cruise bc the bullpens been used to death recently but it wont be a 100 pitch night complete like we discussed before the rally
Don’t put words in my mouth. I never even used the word suck in any form. I was just saying that noone would have claimed he was a perfect game pitcher before hand, and now they are all jumping in saying that they werent surprised it happened.
A perfect game isn’t skill in all reality, its luck. Same as a no-hitter. So I dont think this reflects on his skill at all. He only had 6 K’s
than balls hit sharply and fielded by infielders. Hanson has more K’s than Braden yesterday and he doesnt have a perfect game. It’s all about getting lucky.
How unlikely was this performance? Dallas Braden, over the course of his career, had allowed 6.9 hits per 27 batters, 2.0 walks per 27 batters, and 0.2 reached on errors per 27 batters. Overall, that’s 9.1 runners allowed per 27 batters – his numbers for this season alone are similar. According to a basic binomial distribution, the odds of Braden allowing no runners in 27 batters, as he did on Sunday, are .00001517, or 0.001517%. Braden’s perfect game wasn’t quite one-in-a-million. It was more like 15.2 in a million.
7 runs off two terrible pitchers does not mean our offense has been resurrected. I will be a believer when/if we hit and score runs consistently for a couple of weeks
You guys can’t seriously think our offense is suddenly fixed based on one game. I am very glad we are playing well tonight, but 1 game means very little.
You mean, when our guys – who are usually good hitters – are actually hitting, you think that is the abberation and not the norm, when in fact, NOT hitting is the exception?
The offense sucks for 2 months and then we have one solid game. It is completely unreasonable to declare the offense fixed after this game. You guys are being absurd.
The offense was pretty good in teh first week or two, and then it started to suck – but that is called a slump, not a normal expected outcome. The normal expected outcome, based on their career averages, says that this team that we see tonight, is what we should expect to see on a day-in, day-out basis.
If you think our team’s expected production is to be no-hit, then I suggest you change your screename.
I never said I expect us to be no hit every night...
I just said our offense has been horrible of late and I am not prepared to declare it fixed based on 1 good inning like the rest of you guys are apparently.
Some of you guys sunshine pump so hard it really is unbelievable. It was the same stuff after we swept Houston. You guys were all ready to declare that the team was amazing again and would immediately go on an epic an epic tear.
After we swept Houston, I pointed out that they suck and that it was premature to declare the that the ship was righted. I was shouted down by this same crown who are involved in this discussion.
or series. Don’t act like your pessimism is vindicated every time we go on a bad stretch. Did you expect us to win the Philly series, given the injuries and such?
I didn’t expect us to win because we have been playing poorly for a long time. When we swept the shitty astros, I said I was not ready to declare the team back on track and I got the same response that I am getting in this thread right now. When we are winning, any talk of this not being an incredible team is met with extreme hatred. Fun times.
Several people have said that this means the team has turned a corner on offense and that we can now expect to see this type of production every game. I am not making this crap up so I suggest you go re read all of the posts if you don’t believe me.
I’m not concluding that the offense is good based on this game. I’m concluding that it’s good based on many player-seasons worth of evidence. This game is just an example of the type of game we are capable of putting up fairly regularly.
I replied to guy(s) who said the team “turned a corner” tonight. I don’t think you can determine that on one good inning. If you disagree with me, great, you are entitled to your opinion.
If we keep hitting like this for a few games then I will be ready to jump on the bandwaggon. Will you guys save me a seat or kick me in the face when I try to get on because I don’t declare the team ready to win the world series every time we win a game?
I forgot, you aren’t allowed to be a braves fan unless you think we are going to win every game forever. Gondee needs to be kicked in the face also because he agrees with me that this team has serious problems and is in need of a shake up.
I think this conversation is more for a recap of the game. IF people in the recap say we’re suddenly now a contender for the WSeries and all things are well again in Braves Country – then state your case and converse.
But this is simply folks enjoying the night – the game – the win – the amazing performance by Tommy.
No matter how BFF you and gondeee may be – at this point, me thinks you’re just trying to push buttons and state declarations were made whether they were or not – just to get an argument.
I didn’t start this argument. Someone else asked who was hesitant to think this win meant we stopped the bleeding. Several people responded and said yes, this meant we “turned the corner etc.” I disagreed. Chaos ensued.
I would be fine discussing it in the game recap, but if people don’t want to discuss big picture stuff, then they shouldn’t bring it up during the game thread.
based on one inning. I bet you didn’t expect us to lose to the nats and phils after sweeping the astros either?
This team has issues right now. Serious issues that can not be declared resolved after 7 runs against two crap pitchers. If you don’t believe me, go ask gondee.
I didn't bring this up. Someone else asked the question...
I just responded and then defended my position. I can enjoy tonight without declaring that we have turned a corner and now have a good offense again like some others have stated.
I’ve been watching over at my friend’s house tonight… but I had to come on here and say that Chip’s jokes tonight have been especially horrible… worse than normal.
Also I see the thread completely exploded with the GS!
Hanson just happened to be the guy on the bench tonight – I have tons of SP that I just rotate depending on who is starting. I just forgot to set my lineup today.
and this is shocking how? Team had no interior defense. Besides, Hawks won’t be good until they can find a time machine and pick Chris Paul over Marvin Williams.
the Offense still worries the hell out of me. And what is up with this Glaus fella hitting singles. He is supposed to be “POWAH” but all I see is singles. UGH!
The season is still young. At least one of those three is likely to get injured. Another one will probably hit a rough patch. Tommy just needs to stay consistent, and he’ll be a contender for Cy Young.

Manny Parra is not so good.
Fun fact about Parra— he went to JC with perfect game pitcher Dallas Braden. Everyone was there to scout Parra and nobody cared about Braden. Funny.
Jacob Peterson - May 10, 2010
No
whats funny is everyone on baseball tonight hyping up Braden now, when before that game his record was like 17-23 as a starter…haha
Tim Goad - May 10, 2010
Before that game, he was a really good starter…
Dallas Braden is a another young stud in a long line of young studs produced by the A’s.
And if you are using his record to suggest that he sucks, I hope, for your sake, that you are being sarcastic.
justincredubil02 - May 10, 2010
No
Don’t put words in my mouth.
Tim Goad - May 10, 2010
So you’re saying that strikeouts are skill, but getting outs by pitching to contact is all luck? Greg Maddux would like to have a word with you.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - May 10, 2010
K's are more of a controlled element
than balls hit sharply and fielded by infielders. Hanson has more K’s than Braden yesterday and he doesnt have a perfect game. It’s all about getting lucky.
Tim Goad - May 10, 2010
I disagree.
Did you ever watch Greg Maddux pitch?
EricGreggWasPaidOff - May 10, 2010
Maddux was amazing because he never walked anyone and never gave up Home Runs
not because he could magically make batters hit the ball where ever he wanted.
TheBravestWay To Block A Decent Prospect - May 10, 2010
Again, I disagree.
Did you ever watch Greg Maddux pitch?
EricGreggWasPaidOff - May 10, 2010
Sorry, didn’t look at who I was replying, too. Point still stands, though.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - May 10, 2010
His lowest season BABIP
was .253. So even in his prime 1 in 4 balls in play was a hit.
TheBravestWay To Block A Decent Prospect - May 10, 2010
Thats what I was gonna say, beat me to it.
He was a pitcher that had stuff that could gets K’s(evident by his 10th all time standing), but he mostly let his fielders earn their check.
Tim Goad - May 10, 2010
in two hours
traphicg - May 10, 2010
Yes..
I’m a lifelong Braves fan.
Tim Goad - May 10, 2010
Ok, you didn’t say he sucked. But you can’t seriously say that ANYONE in baseball is a “perfect game” pitcher. That is just stupid.
justincredubil02 - May 10, 2010
No but if you asked the analysts
to list the pitchers on every team they thought had the stuff to pitch a perfect game, or even a no hitter, Braden wouldnt have been on those lists.
Tim Goad - May 10, 2010
And those lists would be shit. I don’t care who you put on them. There have only been 19 guys pitch pefect games – 19!!!
Predicting who will throw one is impossible.
justincredubil02 - May 10, 2010
Again
I never said “predict the next perfect game pitchers” I said make a list of the pitchers with the stuff that best allows it to happen.
You must stop making it a habit to put words in people’s mouths, makes your point less valid in my opinion.
Tim Goad - May 10, 2010
Ok, fine then. A list of pitchers “with the stuff” to pitch a perfect game would be a shit list.
Better?
justincredubil02 - May 10, 2010
Much
But it still doesnt change the fact he wouldnt be on it.
Tim Goad - May 10, 2010
That’s the point. He wouldn’t be on it, but he evidently “has the stuff” to do it – whatever that means.
justincredubil02 - May 10, 2010
He had luck on his side is what it means.
Basically, my point was saying I dont think he’s close to a top pitcher in baseball, but he had a perfect game.
Tim Goad - May 10, 2010
He is a very good SP.
justincredubil02 - May 10, 2010
I won't argue

this
UMDBHIK - May 10, 2010
Yes
7 runs off two terrible pitchers does not mean our offense has been resurrected. I will be a believer when/if we hit and score runs consistently for a couple of weeks
letsgobravos - May 10, 2010
green
bighop - May 10, 2010
right
You guys can’t seriously think our offense is suddenly fixed based on one game. I am very glad we are playing well tonight, but 1 game means very little.
letsgobravos - May 10, 2010
I’ll bet you don’t cuddle either.
It really is OK to just enjoy our first GS in forever and the lead on the road for a change.
NCChopper - May 10, 2010
I enjoyed the GS very much...
but I am not going to be delusional and declare our offense fixed based on this offensive outburst.
letsgobravos - May 10, 2010
You mean, when our guys – who are usually good hitters – are actually hitting, you think that is the abberation and not the norm, when in fact, NOT hitting is the exception?
justincredubil02 - May 10, 2010
+1
Glad somebody said this.
It’s no guarantee that the offense is fixed, but it’s not unreasonable at all to think so.
Jacob Peterson - May 10, 2010
Oh come on...
The offense sucks for 2 months and then we have one solid game. It is completely unreasonable to declare the offense fixed after this game. You guys are being absurd.
letsgobravos - May 10, 2010
We’re not 2 months into the season yet….
EricGreggWasPaidOff - May 10, 2010
These players
have been good for anywhere from 1 to a crapton of years. And bad for 5 weeks (not 2 months). Which one should I put more weight in?
Jacob Peterson - May 10, 2010
The offense was pretty good in teh first week or two, and then it started to suck – but that is called a slump, not a normal expected outcome. The normal expected outcome, based on their career averages, says that this team that we see tonight, is what we should expect to see on a day-in, day-out basis.
If you think our team’s expected production is to be no-hit, then I suggest you change your screename.
justincredubil02 - May 10, 2010
I never said I expect us to be no hit every night...
I just said our offense has been horrible of late and I am not prepared to declare it fixed based on 1 good inning like the rest of you guys are apparently.
Some of you guys sunshine pump so hard it really is unbelievable. It was the same stuff after we swept Houston. You guys were all ready to declare that the team was amazing again and would immediately go on an epic an epic tear.
letsgobravos - May 10, 2010
We haven’t been swept since then…
justincredubil02 - May 10, 2010
Could’ve won the Philly series….
EricGreggWasPaidOff - May 10, 2010
And the natinals series, ftm.
justincredubil02 - May 10, 2010
Losing 4/6 = tearing it up.
After we swept Houston, I pointed out that they suck and that it was premature to declare the that the ship was righted. I was shouted down by this same crown who are involved in this discussion.
letsgobravos - May 10, 2010
Nobody said that we'd never lose another game,
or series. Don’t act like your pessimism is vindicated every time we go on a bad stretch. Did you expect us to win the Philly series, given the injuries and such?
Jacob Peterson - May 10, 2010
Of course not...
I didn’t expect us to win because we have been playing poorly for a long time. When we swept the shitty astros, I said I was not ready to declare the team back on track and I got the same response that I am getting in this thread right now. When we are winning, any talk of this not being an incredible team is met with extreme hatred. Fun times.
letsgobravos - May 10, 2010
Celebrating a good night on BOTH sides of the game is all we’re doing. No declarations or buying of World Series tickets being planned.
I’d think you’d relax a bit from busting the balls of all the sunshine pumpers around here to enjoy it a little bit too.
But that would mean stop being a dick for an hour or so. Is it possible?
NCChopper - May 10, 2010
Apparently you can't read...
Several people have said that this means the team has turned a corner on offense and that we can now expect to see this type of production every game. I am not making this crap up so I suggest you go re read all of the posts if you don’t believe me.
letsgobravos - May 10, 2010
Will they score 7 every game? No
But will they threaten to be no-hit every game for the rest of the year? Of course not.
Jacob Peterson - May 10, 2010
When did I say we would threaten to be no hit every game?
My ONLY point was that it is premature to conclude the offense is now good based on this game. You guys are unbelievable.
letsgobravos - May 10, 2010
I didn't put words in your mouth,
you put them in ours.
I’m not concluding that the offense is good based on this game. I’m concluding that it’s good based on many player-seasons worth of evidence. This game is just an example of the type of game we are capable of putting up fairly regularly.
What’s so offensive about that concept?
Jacob Peterson - May 10, 2010
Go back and read ppl's posts...
I replied to guy(s) who said the team “turned a corner” tonight. I don’t think you can determine that on one good inning. If you disagree with me, great, you are entitled to your opinion.
If we keep hitting like this for a few games then I will be ready to jump on the bandwaggon. Will you guys save me a seat or kick me in the face when I try to get on because I don’t declare the team ready to win the world series every time we win a game?
letsgobravos - May 10, 2010
At the rate you’re going, you’re likely to be kicked in the face. Seats on the Winner’s Bandwagon are reserved for the sunshine pumpers.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - May 10, 2010
Haha right
I forgot, you aren’t allowed to be a braves fan unless you think we are going to win every game forever. Gondee needs to be kicked in the face also because he agrees with me that this team has serious problems and is in need of a shake up.
letsgobravos - May 10, 2010
I think this conversation is more for a recap of the game.
NCChopper - May 10, 2010
Again...
I didn’t start this argument. Someone else asked who was hesitant to think this win meant we stopped the bleeding. Several people responded and said yes, this meant we “turned the corner etc.” I disagreed. Chaos ensued.
I would be fine discussing it in the game recap, but if people don’t want to discuss big picture stuff, then they shouldn’t bring it up during the game thread.
letsgobravos - May 10, 2010
Maybe YOU could take a reading lesson too.
Read Pag’s comment.
justincredubil02 - May 10, 2010
You said we turned a corner tonight...
based on one inning. I bet you didn’t expect us to lose to the nats and phils after sweeping the astros either?
This team has issues right now. Serious issues that can not be declared resolved after 7 runs against two crap pitchers. If you don’t believe me, go ask gondee.
letsgobravos - May 10, 2010
I am officially impressed
bighop - May 10, 2010
These are actually good players
So when they play well, I expect them to continue. And when they play poorly, I expect them to improve. That is perfectly logical.
Jacob Peterson - May 10, 2010
Now, now. You know logic has no place around here!
justincredubil02 - May 10, 2010
Sorry
I keep forgetting that.
Jacob Peterson - May 10, 2010
Nobody declared it fixed, but quit throwing water on a good time, Chopper’s right, it’s our 1st GS in nearly 2 yrs, quit bitching
bighop - May 10, 2010
I didn't bring this up. Someone else asked the question...
I just responded and then defended my position. I can enjoy tonight without declaring that we have turned a corner and now have a good offense again like some others have stated.
letsgobravos - May 10, 2010
No. I think this is the proverbial corner. Guys are swinging the bat well, just getting unlucky – until tonight.

Josh Smith disappears too much and acts like he is Kobe with the jump shots
UltimaParadox - May 10, 2010

That was the only time I cared about the Hawks. How can you not root for a dude named Mookie? Also, Steve Smith had a sweet stroke.

romone_braves91 - May 10, 2010
and this is shocking how? Team had no interior defense. Besides, Hawks won’t be good until they can find a time machine and pick Chris Paul over Marvin Williams.
romone_braves91 - May 10, 2010
well
Chris Paul’s knees are already a major problem
UltimaParadox - May 10, 2010
really? I still think he can still play some serious ball.

dc_allday - May 10, 2010
Holy shit...
How do I know which one to choose? There’s like 50.
strider15 - May 10, 2010
if

dc_allday - May 10, 2010

15ks - May 10, 2010

There’sa fight or something going on somewhere. Look at the guy in the front row shooting something in the distance.
royhobbs - May 10, 2010
Maybe it’s Jody Gerut’s dad
BraveSaluki - May 10, 2010
I actually met
Jody Gerut’s father-in-law at PETCO. Loud as hell, screaming for Gerut when he was on the Padres.
royhobbs - May 10, 2010
Nate definetly opening up
He is trying to upper cut like a right hander
UltimaParadox - May 10, 2010
Where are all the trolls and negative nancies tonight? They must’ve gotten lost on their way home.
Scott Coleman - May 10, 2010
this team blows!
Rhyno18 - May 10, 2010
This kind of game is no fun for them
Jacob Peterson - May 10, 2010
I can do some more buzzkilling if you'd like
bpk228480 - May 10, 2010

RAINBOW LLAMASAURUS!
AllSaintsDay - May 10, 2010
Damn straight.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - May 10, 2010
the Offense still worries the hell out of me. And what is up with this Glaus fella hitting singles. He is supposed to be “POWAH” but all I see is singles. UGH!
/sarcasm
romone_braves91 - May 10, 2010
If Escobar keeps this up
we need to get rid of him.
TheBravestWay To Block A Decent Prospect - May 10, 2010
Seriously
he hasn’t had a hit in what, 2 weeks?
Jacob Peterson - May 10, 2010
His boneheaded plays
are killing us.
TheBravestWay To Block A Decent Prospect - May 10, 2010
let him go. We could use the prospects. Can we get Justin Smoak?
/still sarcasm kinda
romone_braves91 - May 10, 2010
Scroll UP, it’s here.
NCChopper - May 10, 2010
No CG for Tommy. Chavez in.
TonyAlmeyda - May 10, 2010
bullshit, Hanson not in
Kobe:The Legend - May 10, 2010
Did we need him to go 9?
No.
Jacob Peterson - May 10, 2010
I can tell you were watching Lakers instead of paying attention to the OT.
romone_braves91 - May 10, 2010
you got that right
Kobe:The Legend - May 10, 2010
Jesse Chavez… now we’re going to lose.
Michael Pesce - May 10, 2010

bpk228480 - May 10, 2010
Thata baby Chavez.
No shutout…
Scott Coleman - May 10, 2010
At least it’s Chavez’s ERA and not Hanson’s…?
EricGreggWasPaidOff - May 10, 2010
what is Hanson’s ERA now anyway?
romone_braves91 - May 10, 2010
2.5ish?
EricGreggWasPaidOff - May 10, 2010
absolute zero
15ks - May 10, 2010
2.30
JasonHeywardisGod - May 10, 2010
Wow…that’s sick.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - May 10, 2010
any other year he would be up for the CY, damn you Halladay, Ublado, and Lincy.
romone_braves91 - May 10, 2010
The season is still young. At least one of those three is likely to get injured. Another one will probably hit a rough patch. Tommy just needs to stay consistent, and he’ll be a contender for Cy Young.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - May 10, 2010
Tim? Likely to get injured?
/faints
TheLetter2 - May 10, 2010
I was thinking more along the lines of Ubaldo….throwing 120-130 pitches in games isn’t good for the arm.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - May 10, 2010
he has a rubber arm. He does that quite often.
romone_braves91 - May 10, 2010
That only makes it worse.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - May 10, 2010
I’m just teasin’. Being the resident Giants fan, I had make a little rabble about it.
TheLetter2 - May 10, 2010
That's how you're supposed to pitch with an 8-run lead
Throw it hard, challenge them to hit it out. You don’t want to mess around and walk people. Of course, you’re not supposed to lose the challenge.
Jacob Peterson - May 10, 2010
Yeah, it's frustrating as hell. And it's annoying that the momentum has shifted a bit for game 2 tomorrow.
But it’s really not that big a deal.
AllSaintsDay - May 10, 2010
Why oh why Bobby?
HEYJUDE - May 10, 2010
that was blasted
UltimaParadox - May 10, 2010
Not the word I used, but all right.
TheLetter2 - May 10, 2010

TheLetter2 - May 10, 2010

kreese555 - May 10, 2010
Best of luck with that. I hope the city springs back stronger than ever.
TheLetter2 - May 10, 2010
Me too, have you seen some of the pictures? Thankfully it didn't affect us but
alot of people have been devastated by it.
kreese555 - May 10, 2010
I work in journalism, so I’ve been keeping up with it as best I can. It’s a terrible scene.
TheLetter2 - May 10, 2010
Hmmm, you are a writer then huh? Me too..me tooooooo……… :-)
kreese555 - May 10, 2010

strider15 - May 10, 2010
How long do hamstring injuries keep u out normally when theres a “pop” involved?
ATLBRVS_19 - May 10, 2010
I think “pop” = 4+ weeks.

Nope. Alabama, baby.
TheLetter2 - May 10, 2010
Oh. Where did the Giants come from?
AllSaintsDay - May 10, 2010
I chose them nearly at random last spring. One of the best decisions of my life.
TheLetter2 - May 11, 2010
Leaving for good now just wanted to share my new siggy.
Too much? :-P
