Don't look now, but here come the Braves.
Yeah, it's only been 2 games, but the offense, defense and pitching have been much improved this weekend.
The Astros got off to a strong start in the 1st inning after back-to-back singles were hit by Michael Bourn and Jeff Keppinger, but Timmy Hudson worked out of it and only allowed 1 run to score courtesy of a Lance Berkman groundout.
The Braves offense came back in a big way after that.
Troy Glaus ripped a 2-run double to RF in the 3rd inning which scored Tim Hudson and Martin Prado. Glausy wasn't done though. He came up to the plate in the 5th and delivered yet again, this time lacing a single up the middle to make the score 3-1. Matty Diaz drove in a run in the 5th with a RBI-groundout and was then driven in by David Ross, who was filling in for Brian McCann. The Braves led 5-1 after the 5th.
Glaus displayed his singles POWAH in the 6th when he scored Omar Infante to make the score 6-1.
Everyone's favorite rookie superstar Jason Heyward came up in the 7th inning and hit his 7th HR of the season, this time blasting one to left center field. That's 3 straight games with a homer. He might be good one day.
The Braves added on in the 7th after the Heyward HR via a RBI single from Omar Infante and then a big 2-RBI double from Nitram Odarp. Braves led 10-1.
Eric O'Flaherty pitched a nice 8th inning and Jonny Venters, despite struggling with his command, worked a scoreless 9th inning to close out the ball game.
Braves win! Braves win! Braves win!
Game MVP: Tim Hudson - Huddy was phenomenal today. He went 6.2 innings (and could've gone more, too) and only allowed 1 run on 5 hits. Tim lowered his ERA to 2.87 and looks like he's getting stronger with every start he makes. He also contributed at the plate going 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Game LVP: The Astros' bullpen - 3IP 5H 5R 4BB 0K 1HR
The Braves and Astros will conclude their 3-game series tomorrow afternoon. Derek Lowe will pitch for the Braves and Bud Norris will go for the Astros. First pitch is at 1:35EST.
GO BRAVES!

atl192485 - May 1, 2010
So glad Braves have Infante
The man is the ultimate utility man. Two games in a row we get a monster night from the leadoff spot. Love it
Frozen Fan - May 1, 2010
Great win!!
Thanks for the recap. Looked great today. Nice to see some deserving pitchers get some run support. Glaus!! He eats hatred and craps RBIs.
Frozen Fan - May 1, 2010
Top 4 Hitters for ATL
9-19 today and that includes and 0-4 day from Chipper. Nice progress…but i’m not sold by any means on the “here comes the Braves” statement although it sounds cool. Call me a grinch but i still have a bad taste in my mouth from the dark ages of the past 12 days.
Nova Scotia Steve - May 1, 2010 via mobile
On the bright side. Braves are 10-5 in games when not being on a 9 game losing streak.
Frozen Fan - May 1, 2010
I'll miss tomorrow's game live...so hope we can get another before leaving for the road trip.
Oh, and an early “Happy Birthday to HeyJude!” tomorrow who will be at the game.
.
NCChopper - May 1, 2010
Great. It’s gonna be a sausage feat in the GT tomorrow.
Jk…Happy B-Day HeyJude!
Scott Coleman - May 1, 2010 via mobile
When is it not a sausage fest on the intertubes?
schlagdawg - May 1, 2010
I had a good feeling that this series would turn us around. The offense is starting to get going. Let’s get the sweep tomorrow.

The Astros:
busting other teams’ slumps since 1964 (or whenever they became the Astros).
Jacob Peterson - May 1, 2010
From the world of AJC comments:
acie4mvp - May 1, 2010
Yikes.
Smoltz's Beard - May 1, 2010
That guy would probably also say
“I think we should shut down Patton’s army to keep them fresh for the inevitable Nazi regime. The Allied Powers are done”
Jacob Peterson - May 1, 2010
Tsk...
Are you going to make me invoke Godwin’s Law?
EricGreggWasPaidOff - May 1, 2010
Patton
“But we haven’t even kick their asses out of Africa yet!”
Bronn - May 1, 2010
wow just reading through the comments on that site just made my brain scramble. Even Bradley seems to have his head up his ass.
yondaime4 - May 1, 2010
This is clearly the work of a brilliant baseball mind.
UMDBHIK - May 2, 2010
What an idiot! Can’t even spell the kids name right, yet calling him done with 5 months left.
FitzFan - May 1, 2010
Anybody realize that
Jason Heyward is now tied for third in the NL with Pujols and Matt Kemp with 7 HRs. And that our old friend Kelly Johnson is leading the NL?
REG233710 - May 1, 2010
For the record
The NL Single season HR record for rookies is 39 by Wally Berger of the Boston Braves in the 30s and the MLB record is 49 set by Mark McGwire. I don’t know if 50 HRs is in reach THIS year but the NL record certaintly is
REG233710 - May 1, 2010
He SHOULD be at 8. Fuckin’ Hunter Pence.
J-Freak - May 1, 2010
If you project him for 155 games
(Might be a tad high, but since he’s only missed one game so far…)
His projected pace is 45. If he keeps going at this pace, he’d hit his 40th homer by his 137th game.
Bronn - May 1, 2010
It's crazy...
watching Heyward because he has flashes of being a star while only being 20 yrs old rookie. I don’t know if words can express how amazing this guy is playing the game. I hope he flirts with 50 HR and 120 RBI with an OPS of 1.000. Go Bravos!
romone_braves91 - May 1, 2010
Rookie of the…Eternity.
justincredubil02 - May 2, 2010
Let’s hope he keeps up this pace.
Kid is insanely good. Yeah, you hear the hype and at the end of the day it’s just people talking. This kid has the talent to not only meet but exceed the expectations. At 20. Just makes me shake my head. When I was 20, my biggest concern was getting into girls’ pants.
UMDBHIK - May 2, 2010
While I'm really pumped that they're winning again
We all have to remember that this is against the Astros. Lets not get too carried away, or when they face the Phillies next weekend we’ll get burned again!
sag969 - May 1, 2010
Not to mention the freaking Nats. A sweep in DC would be kosher.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - May 1, 2010
odd
the natinals pitchers we’re set to face in washington are a combined 7-2
atl192485 - May 1, 2010
lingsched - May 1, 2010
Well
The Nats are actually decent this year. I think we may have our hands full.
sag969 - May 2, 2010
The more important thing to focus on is that we are beating a team that we should be beating.
Smoltz's Beard - May 1, 2010
and not facing the cream of the crop in the league. Our Strength of Schedule thus far is 2nd in baseball.
yondaime4 - May 1, 2010
How many other games have you played already that I want to play?
Smoltz's Beard - May 2, 2010
Though I wasn’t able to join the GDT, I watched most of the game. I was so happy for the guys. Perhaps this is at the least a shot in the arm for their performance.
TheLetter2 - May 1, 2010
Thanks for the support.
Smoltz's Beard - May 1, 2010
Was there live, what a game, got to see my first live Heyward homer
also saw someone wearing a Charles Thomas jersey……
BravesRaleigh - May 1, 2010
Lol say hello to 1/3 of Timmy Hudson!
Scott Coleman - May 1, 2010 via mobile
I saw my first live Heyward homer
on Friday! It was awesome. And I almost saw another (go to hell, Hunter Pence and take your great catch with you!).
Jacob Peterson - May 1, 2010
You know, I loved Joe Simpson on Friday night. He kept picking on the two Astros fan who dropped Heyward’s homerun ball. It was pretty good!
dunnytwogloves - May 2, 2010
I'm gonna guess that
that was a prsonalized jersey and the guy wearing it has the surname “Thomas”. Just a guess though.
J-Turn14 - May 1, 2010
How dare you say that about Chuckie T?
He was a big fan favorite at the time.
Bronn - May 1, 2010
Hrmmm....
I think Hudson and Glaus should’ve been Co-MVPs for today’s game. Glaus was killing the ball – and the Astros’ pitchers’ ERAs.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - May 1, 2010
+1
Glaus has looked great the last several days. Maybe he’s busting out.
John Holton - May 1, 2010
He’s been looking great for about a week and a half now.
justincredubil02 - May 2, 2010
Hi.
Smoltz's Beard - May 2, 2010
indeed
people are so stuck on Averages but they forget he is a career .255 batter. So what if he goes 1-4 every game as long as that one hit plates a run lol
drumzalicious - May 2, 2010
Perfect. I work all day at the Air Show, and my boy, TG, finally shows up in a game.
Oh well. I think we are starting our 15 game win streak now.
justincredubil02 - May 1, 2010
15 games? I like your style.
Smoltz's Beard - May 1, 2010
last time it happened was in ’00, and we made the playoffs
atl192485 - May 1, 2010
Hmmm.....
I would say 20, but 15 actually works better. It gives a short window between the end of the current streak and the start of the 20 game winning streak in June. After all, we don’t want the team burnt out going into June!
EricGreggWasPaidOff - May 1, 2010
True.
If you get too much of a lead in the division, you’re stale for the playoffs.
Jacob Peterson - May 1, 2010
I’ll take a stale playoff team.
Frozen Fan - May 2, 2010
Air Show
Played golf today in Scotsboro AL, they must have been having an airshow too. 8 WW2 era B-25 bombers flew over, real low, real slow and real loud. Saw them again later in formation, doing peel offs, pretty impressive.
bighop - May 1, 2010
B-25s doing peel-offs is rather impressive.
There was a Tora Tora Tora performance today, several heritage flights (like the C47, C130 and the C17 all flying together, and the B1, B25 and B24 all flying together) along with a few world records and finally, the Thunderbirds.
justincredubil02 - May 2, 2010
Another great win.
I knew the bats would come around once we finally won a game. Now if we can just get Mac and Chipper going, we’ll be fierce. Let’s finish off the sweep tomorrow, even if it takes a DLW!
Jacob Peterson - May 1, 2010
D. Lowe's pitching...
You know it will.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - May 1, 2010
It feels like glaus is starting to do what he was doing in ST. just trying to put the pall in play and let the power come on its own.
yondaime4 - May 1, 2010
What is with all these death puns lately?
The Atlanta Graves need to start putting the pall in play. They just have to get the recent skid out of their headstones, or its going to be somebody’s funeral the next time the offense rolls over and dies.
J-Freak - May 1, 2010 via mobile
Reply fail?
justincredubil02 - May 2, 2010
Swing and a miss...
yondaime:
J-Freak - May 2, 2010
nice.
justincredubil02 - May 2, 2010
Hopefully
Derek Lowe throws a good game tomorrow, it would be a giant confidence booster!
ATLforlife - May 1, 2010
I’m confident in D-lowe, he’ll have some games where he gives up 2 HRs, but others, like that last start where he gives up only 1 or two runs in 5 or 6 innings. (Yes I can read a box score, I’m discounting the last few ER he gave up. cox just left him in too long)
in others words hes a number 5 starter.
Braves Biceps - May 1, 2010
Why do I recognize all the names in this thread? What happened to all the people that appeared during the losing streak?
McCann and McWill - May 1, 2010
Excellent point.
justincredubil02 - May 2, 2010
Hey now…watch your mouth, you might get accosted later on for being too optimistic! Or even worse, arguing with the people who are too pessimistic!
Smoltz's Beard - May 2, 2010
rec'd
(im being serious…this isn’t one of those times I say “rec’d” when some dumbass, negative noob starts bitching about the Braves.)
Scott Coleman - May 2, 2010
Hahaha
Lizziebeth - May 2, 2010
Here comes the Pain Train
TradeAndruw - May 1, 2010
You aint goin' NOWHERE.
GeneParmesan - May 1, 2010
Bonesaw's readYYYYYYY!
Jareth Cutestory - May 1, 2010
The Braves have been incredibly frustrating of late.
But this…
This is nice.
RichmondBraves - May 2, 2010
So I realized that Braves victory + Gaslight anthem = great night.
Smoltz's Beard - May 2, 2010
ahhh SB I forgot to tell you my friend opened up for The Dangerous Summer for a couple shows here in the philly area….awesome show
bpk228480 - May 2, 2010
Even Mark Grace
Couldn’t dampen my enjoyment of this win.
Nice to see Timmy hit a career milestone number.
Sam Jethroe - May 2, 2010
Add me to the positives
Again, Sadly I must burden the blame for our nine game skid (in jest). Some how the universe has attached the Brave’s winning seasons to my absense from the states.
As in last year (when I was in Iraq and a good season) my early return from the middle east cursed our team and doomed us to another season w/o post season play. This year I assumed this anomally was behind me and purchased a ticket package from the Braves.
After attending the opening day hit parade I was even more convinced that it was all just a twisted thought. My thoughts had shifted to thoughts of recovering from my injuries, getting some type of employment (here) and coming over once a month to see a game. While this was going on we were on the skid. Then our last two wins have come on the heals of a possible job offer that would return me to the middle east for six months.
Of couse I would disavow the above statements as purley fiction if anyone suggested that I have needs of a padded cell or other type of contraints. So, would it be crazy of me to lengthen the negotiations for the job….say till the end of October?
bravestatoo - May 2, 2010
As long as you hand over your Braves tickets to me!
dunnytwogloves - May 2, 2010
Saturday’s To Do List:

UMDBHIK - May 2, 2010
