Turner Field, Cubs at Braves, 4/5/10, bottom of the first
...I don't know if you realized, but I'm covering this from every angle. Don't get mad if the only posts between today and tomorrow are vids and pics of this homerun.
I saw it on TV but it didn’t do the “noise” justice. Unreal! And seriously, who in the hell could get mad, or even slightly disappointed, at watching this over and over and over and over and over … again???
Damn it! Where can I find some good coverage on the lifetime WAR rating of every single knuckleballer who ever threw? I come here for that and all I can see is some kid hitting a home run!
Check out the guy leaning against the rail for the Cubs...
he looks like he almost wanted to get jacked for that homerun too… or either he did something bad in pants when it happened. He jerks back like “OH SH*T” haha
I have him in one of my leagues. I forgot to bench him last night and wasnt able to get around to it today. Worst part is that he completely negated the excellent work of Johan Santana and Dan Haren.
Man I went and bought a cap before the game, and all these folks were asking about Heyward jerseys and they kept telling everybody he had to play for like 5 minutes before they were technically allowed to bring them out and sell them. I wonder if there were actually any left in the clubhouse store by the time the game ended.
So awesome for his parents. That’s gotta be the best-case scenario for any parent, right? High-fiving random strangers as 53,000 people scream wildly because of something your son just did?
Choose “video” from the red banner that runs across the top. Then, look for the previous day link above the gray bar that heads the table of all games available. When you get to the day of the game, just choose the link for the game that you want to watch.
just like Chip said it was the loudest i’ve ever herd it at the Ted, or any ball game for that matter
when that ball went over… Hollywood couldnt have wrote this story any better, the place when absolutely insane
i loved it, this was by far the best game i’d ever been to
That was absolutely amazing. That is all I can say. I was at work and couldn’t contain my excitement and started jumping up and down holding my mouth so I wouldn’t start hollering.
the guy is an effective reliever. Now health is obviously a question, but that’s true for so many bullpen arms anyway. But if healthy, there are few who can perform as well as he can.
Man I am so excited for more Braves baseball right now. Why the heck do we have an off day today? Thats just cruel.
Anyways, our pen did just look nasty. If Hanson and Jurrjens can hand them the ball in the 8th any combo of two of those three will just shut the game down.
A day night combo, with so many having the next day off, would be a nice way to kick off a season. Pitching staffs would be under less strain with the off day and everyone being fresh, excitement is at it’s highest so you likely double up on sell outs everywhere. Why not?
Seeing this over and over just doesn’t get old. Sitting in the the lower part of the RF upper deck, every one was chanting “Jay! Hey!”, and “Let’s Go Heyward!” It’s like when Griffey was a rookie, Heyward’s already the fan favorite. I lost my mind when he hit that, like there were hugs, and high fives, and i had to bang on the seasts and get mkinda wild for a minute. Actually, I don’t think anyone sat down until the inning ended after that.
I knew he would make a point to get a hit off of Zambrano, because that’s just the kind of talent that he is. Every time he faced a big-name all spring he’d make a point to get a hit off of them. However, I wasn’t expecting him to go yard. It continues to be surreal; especially after touting him so much the last two years.
It’s been a day since the homer, and I still can’t believe it. I haven’t been this happy since the Hawks’ first win over the Magic in their last meeting. Anyone else fell this way?
Is it ok if
i say I felt that homerun coming?

Haha. Ya hear some guy making the smart-ass comment: “Lookit Zambrano’s ERA-81” and then with one swing Heyward made it 162.

One of my buddies has Z on his fantasy team
I tried to tell him to not start Zambrano cause he was gonna get rocked, but he didn’t listen to me. Suckerrrr

The ESPN shots of his folks in the stands were priceless.
I had just finished telling my son to watch closely, Heyward is going to be a special player, and BOOM! There it went.
dawgs144 - April 5, 2010
same here
I was explaining to my girlfriend who he was and the expectations on him. Then a few seconds after the homerun, she’s requested I get her his jersey.

And on top of catching the opening pitch from Hank Aaron?
With the win, I’m not sure just how you top a day like today. Just wow.

Speed of the Heyward Bomb
Somehow, ESPN got the speed of the baseball leaving the bat and just reported it…. 110.5 mph… “fastest of any homer hit today.”
Any more superlatives left??
carpengui - April 5, 2010
120.9 MPH (speed off the bat) by HitTracker…

Jason Heyward couldn’t hear himself think after the homer.

Audio replay/archive?
I was in the car and Powell’s call was insane. It would make a deadly ringtone…
eglenn - April 5, 2010
@eglenn
MLB.TV is where you can find the REPLAY for both audio and video. I have an account for the season.
SportSouth might even replay the game on Tuesday Afternoon. Set your VCR or DVR for that telecast.
Go Braves!!!

What a shot
That was a good try in capturing the moment. The crowd told me the story in great detail. Heyward is gonna be a hell of a ballplayer.
Now I really want to go to some braves games this season. I’m looking to go to Braves/Rockies on Saturday, APR 17 and Sunday, APR 18.
Go Braves!!!!!

ill be at those!

with Gwinnett right now?
Or those claiming Saito is a horrible signing?

And saying we still need KJ lol! But seriously where is Justin?!?! I don’t think he was on the board at all yesterday.

Hate the off day! Hopefully this doesn’t stop the excitement and hot hitting.
And your right our 7,8,9 RP looked super good!

I wonder why they rarely have double headers?...

Mr. Sanchez - April 6, 2010
they purposefully put the day off in this year
bc of rain…they wanted an extra day in case the first one was rained out
