They don’t block ESPN (I actually control the firewall) our ISP is not approved under ESPN’s list (we use Internap) so that’s why we can’t use ESPN360). Anyway…
Really would rather discuss some other time than when a game’s on, but um, ok…I really don’t have a particular person or group in mind, since that’s not my field of expertise. I was just voicing my (I thought) brief personal opinion that I’d rather not have opera at a lot of my baseball games. I don’t know that anyone’s voice sounds more “baseball” – again, not my area of expertise. And I didn’t even know that’s what I meant!
As I said, I do appreciate their voices and the good job they do at their craft. He was good, there’s no doubt about that.
Idunno, notsurewhatIdid. I think I’ll go back to the game now. But a little more quietly, I guess.
I come from Riverside CA that has this famous hotel called the Mission Inn that early 20th century elite went too, and Taft came they built him a custom chair that fits like 3 of me, and he was insulted, but then couldnt fit in it…
16 runs, 12 hits, 8 walks (and 8 K’s), one hit batter. Collectively hit for the cycle with 2 HRs.
Cubs got ZERO hits off of the bullpen. Overall, 7K’s, 3 walks.
I opened TC and si.com’s Braves homepage when i got home from school. I got the biggest surprise of my life. WOW!!! What happened?!?!?!?!?! All I know for sure about this game is that Jason Heyward pulled a Jordan Schafer.
to find out about the shot. The link was titled “Heyward adds to legend in first at-bat” The first thing that I thought of was the Schafer bomb, because that’s what the headline was a year ago, Opening Day.
Moylan, Saito, and Wagner looked outstanding. That 83 mph changeup from Wagner was just unfair after a few 97 mph fastballs. If he does that all year long, we’re going to be in awfully good shape.
Cubbies early Christmas wishlist: A reliever who can throw strikes
Dang it, D Lowe
Keep the ball down, please.

El Soro - April 5, 2010
Lizziebeth - April 5, 2010

PenderMania - April 5, 2010
YEAH!!!
Gill_1234 - April 5, 2010
I wanna have Jason Heyward’s babies.
Scott Coleman - April 5, 2010
lol
soup du jour - April 5, 2010
i am his baby.
immaculately conceived.
Jareth Cutestory - April 5, 2010
Born fully-formed from his forehead.
TheLetter2 - April 5, 2010
how did you know?
Jareth Cutestory - April 5, 2010
Yours is a mythology handed down for millennia.
TheLetter2 - April 5, 2010
Heyward hit a rope
TonyAlmeyda - April 5, 2010
The mound exploded!!
CowboyCurtis - April 5, 2010
Heyward nearly kills the pitcher
1B, RBI
Jacob Peterson - April 5, 2010
BANG….

carpengui - April 5, 2010
15- 5
Thanks Jason!
HEYJUDE - April 5, 2010
I wouldnt ever want to pitch against Heyward
not because you could be humiliated for him owning you, but for fear of death from a ball up the middle
Don Draper - April 5, 2010
This is true. Partly because him owning the pitcher is a given
eaheckman10 - April 5, 2010
this is very true
Don Draper - April 5, 2010
I was thinking the same thing!
HEYJUDE - April 5, 2010
#22 gets the 15th
NCChopper - April 5, 2010
I really like this lineup. (might be opening day fever talking)
romone_braves91 - April 5, 2010
I agree
i think there is a tough out at every spot (besides the pitcher)
BravesFanScout - April 5, 2010
Seven Walks
Biggest improvement for Atlanta in 2010. Forcing pitchers to throw a lot of pitches, get them in bad situation, and club them
kalesi - April 5, 2010
+1
PenderMania - April 5, 2010
J-Hey's patience is spreading.....
CowboyCurtis - April 5, 2010
Another!
NCChopper - April 5, 2010
carpengui - April 5, 2010
Sportscenter is next...
We better be the lead story. The World needs to see Heyward’s homer.
Scott Coleman - April 5, 2010
oh they will
Don Draper - April 5, 2010
if they havent already
Don Draper - April 5, 2010
I think Tiger Woods, ChiSox, Pujols, then us.
romone_braves91 - April 5, 2010
probably obama too
Don Draper - April 5, 2010
what a shetty 1st pitch
agree with him politically or not, W’s 1st pitch will always be tops
Jareth Cutestory - April 5, 2010
His
at the allstar game was terrible too, he can dunk though, so i forgive him a little
Don Draper - April 5, 2010
so can I, and I'm a 5'11" white guy
Jareth Cutestory - April 5, 2010
I dunno. Taft had a wicked slider.
!Vive la Francoeur! - April 5, 2010
For a fat guy, anyways.
!Vive la Francoeur! - April 5, 2010
Taft
could barely get up
Don Draper - April 5, 2010
He thought “velocity” was a type of Spanish pastry.
TheLetter2 - April 5, 2010
I come from Riverside CA that has this famous hotel called the Mission Inn that early 20th century elite went too, and Taft came they built him a custom chair that fits like 3 of me, and he was insulted, but then couldnt fit in it…
Don Draper - April 5, 2010
“An abnormally large sitting chair? Why, this is a most insultory manner of action!”
/gets stuck
“The first person who laughs gets eaten.”
TheLetter2 - April 5, 2010
that is also
how i like to imagine how it went down
Don Draper - April 5, 2010
lol
i can’t read the word “wicked” without saying it in a new england accent in my head
Jareth Cutestory - April 5, 2010
and then a recap of the red sox-yankees game last night, then mcnabb, then us w/ 1 min left
BravesFanScout - April 5, 2010
yeah right, you know they will talk about tiger woods interview for an hour
BravesFanScout - April 5, 2010
Tiger was the lead story this morning
over Opening Day with Yanks/Sox, Final Four, and McNabb…ridiculous
Will Shelton - April 5, 2010
Tiger is a billion dollar industry. I mean 50% stop watching a sport b/c of him. Baseball has nothing on that.
romone_braves91 - April 5, 2010
Man, just saw Zambrano’s line…that’s pretty fucking rough. Cubbies are gonna have a hard time this year if he makes that a habit.
soup du jour - April 5, 2010
He has trouble with patient lineups
And we were very patient, from the first batter. Drives him crazy
Jacob Peterson - April 5, 2010
Which makes me very, very, very happy.
soup du jour - April 5, 2010
Plus he was throwing nothing but fastballs. That’s why Heyward cranked that bomb out.
romone_braves91 - April 5, 2010
Yeah I don’t see them getting far this year. Although Zambrano won’t have to face Heyward every game so that’s a little advantage
eaheckman10 - April 5, 2010
8 runs in 1.2 IP, right?
Smoltz's Beard - April 5, 2010
1.1 IP, only 7 ER
though the error was his own
Jacob Peterson - April 5, 2010
The Bears are going to need a touchdown, on-side kick, and quick field goal here if they want to beat the Falcons
Jacob Peterson - April 5, 2010
yes
Don Draper - April 5, 2010
I seriously hope we have the most runs scored for Opening Day game in 2010.
Eat that Phillies.
NCChopper - April 5, 2010
Yeah
Phils can suck it
eaheckman10 - April 5, 2010
i was looking around the SBN blogs
almost every one I went to had big discussions on Heyward’s first AB.
Some guy said “my roommate said he was hitting and i ran in the other room to the TV”
Scott Coleman - April 5, 2010
win
Don Draper - April 5, 2010
That's awesome.
Smoltz's Beard - April 5, 2010
Why
is Wags up
Erihury - April 5, 2010
Same kind of questions we always had about the use of the BP last year, hopefully he won't be used
BravesFanScout - April 5, 2010
McLOUTH

… and walk #8.
carpengui - April 5, 2010
Every time they show Heyward’s parent’s reaction to his HR my eyes start to water.
Smoltz's Beard - April 5, 2010
did you get smashed by a huge beer can?
Don Draper - April 5, 2010
Haha. Men should act like men.
!Vive la Francoeur! - April 5, 2010
we're men...we're men in tights--tight--tights
Jareth Cutestory - April 5, 2010
Wasn’t that Chapelle’s first role? Achoo.
!Vive la Francoeur! - April 5, 2010
probs
Jareth Cutestory - April 5, 2010
lol, nice
Smoltz's Beard - April 5, 2010
OK, so who *doesn't* have a walk?
Jacob Peterson - April 5, 2010
Escobar and Heyward I think. Other than that everyone
eaheckman10 - April 5, 2010
And they've done OK
9 RBI
Jacob Peterson - April 5, 2010
Oh I’m not complaining haha
eaheckman10 - April 5, 2010
haha
Smoltz's Beard - April 5, 2010
Prado
Escobar
Heyward
TonyAlmeyda - April 5, 2010
Prado, Yunel, Heyward, pitcher’s spot.
AllSaintsDay - April 5, 2010
Prado got plunked too, so that’s kind of a walk
eaheckman10 - April 5, 2010
Right. Just doesn't show up on the stats on ESPN3.
AllSaintsDay - April 5, 2010
Prado, Esco and Heyward
Scott Coleman - April 5, 2010
Braves scored 735 runs last year
They already have 15 this year.
Bronn - April 5, 2010
On pace for 2430
Jacob Peterson - April 5, 2010
lol
Smoltz's Beard - April 5, 2010
Why change pitchers again? It's not likely they can come back and score 10 or more runs in the 9th to win?!?
HEYJUDE - April 5, 2010
shhhhhhhh
SuperNewb - April 5, 2010
So this whole day is awesome
SuperNewb - April 5, 2010
yep.
romone_braves91 - April 5, 2010
Man, ABC’s Dan Harris is totally busting some ass on a hidden-camera investigation. I mean, BASEBALL!
TheLetter2 - April 5, 2010
INFANTE… nails his foot for strike one.
carpengui - April 5, 2010
come on big O
give me one.
Jareth Cutestory - April 5, 2010
the double meaning in this is amazing
eaheckman10 - April 5, 2010
glad someone caught it
too bad he was a dud
Jareth Cutestory - April 5, 2010
Home Run in First Career At-Bat
Jason Heyward Atlanta 04-05-2010
Jordan Schafer Atlanta 04-05-2009
Its their density…I mean, destiny….to man 2/3 of our OF for 15 years.
soup du jour - April 5, 2010
I start the hype: Freeman in 2011?
carpengui - April 5, 2010
Can you even imagine
eaheckman10 - April 5, 2010
I’ll vote for him.
TheLetter2 - April 5, 2010
nice back to the future reference =)
Jareth Cutestory - April 5, 2010
You’re as useless as a screen door on a battleship!
!Vive la Francoeur! - April 5, 2010
that's a screen door on a submarine, ya dork
;)
Jareth Cutestory - April 5, 2010
Why don’t you make like a tree…..and get outta here.
bravos1984 - April 5, 2010
you IDIOT
it’s make like a tree, and leave. you sound like a damned fool when you say it.
—All right, then LEAVE!
Jareth Cutestory - April 5, 2010
That sequel was abysmal.
Smoltz's Beard - April 5, 2010
Which one?
!Vive la Francoeur! - April 5, 2010
the problem was Jennifer got in the DeLorean @ the end of the 1st
Jareth Cutestory - April 5, 2010
SILENCE! He had a hoverboard!
Lennox - April 5, 2010
i was so convinced those were real
Jareth Cutestory - April 5, 2010
Ha, I’m an idiot…I was thinking Boondock Saints
Smoltz's Beard - April 5, 2010
You know…Boondock Saints and Back to the Future as sooooo close in plot and character development I can understand the confusion…
mvandonsel - April 5, 2010

carpengui - April 5, 2010

HEYJUDE - April 5, 2010
Please not Wags
Im begging you Bobby. Meds or JoJo are g2g.
Scott Coleman - April 5, 2010
He will to get those first appearance jitters out of the way
bravesforever16 - April 5, 2010
Braves
are averaging 2 runs per inning so far. That’ll work
Jacob Peterson - April 5, 2010
NICE JOB by Theriot to get foul by Melky.
END INNING.
carpengui - April 5, 2010
I believe the 16 runs are more than what we had combined for the 1st half of last year
mad_dog_maddux - April 5, 2010
this has been awesome
TonyAlmeyda - April 5, 2010
So, I'm watching the game with my 5 yr old
who has been to many more G-Braves games than Atlanta Braves games. He says, “When is Chipper going to get into his G-Braves costume?”
He means this one, of course:

You’re a bit confused, son. I think we need to take you to a few more games at Turner field.
calico30 - April 5, 2010
hahahah thats great
Scott Coleman - April 5, 2010
LOL! More briefing needed.
carpengui - April 5, 2010

Scott Coleman - April 5, 2010

Scott Coleman - April 5, 2010
.....and, it's Wagner
El Soro - April 5, 2010
Wagner for the ninth.
carpengui - April 5, 2010
Today has been so good – our A/C went out and we didn’t mind.
Of course we’ll call and bitch at the Heating/AC guys tomorrow – but for today – all is well.
NCChopper - April 5, 2010
My fiancee just said:
“Heyward looks like a truck”
Jacob Peterson - April 5, 2010
accurate
shes a keeper
Don Draper - April 5, 2010
Before everyone jumps off a bridge. This is a good thing that Wags is pitching. He still needs to shake off the TJ rust
eaheckman10 - April 5, 2010
off day tomorrow.
carpengui - April 5, 2010
good point
Jacob Peterson - April 5, 2010
Yeah, I'm Ok with it too....just like another ST inning for him
El Soro - April 5, 2010
I don’t want this game to end
Smoltz's Beard - April 5, 2010
+1
soup du jour - April 5, 2010
I'm okay with Wagner in the game...
Get everyone psyched by showing our best guys.
Jacob Peterson - April 5, 2010
97 mph and he pulls it foul??
carpengui - April 5, 2010
Frank says, "WOW."
soup du jour - April 5, 2010

Scott Coleman - April 5, 2010
Man
what a pitch by Wags
Jacob Peterson - April 5, 2010
… and then whiffs badly on the 83mph curve!!!

carpengui - April 5, 2010
nasty
Will Shelton - April 5, 2010
Every time I think of Billy Wagner, I hear snippets of the Ring Cycle.
TheLetter2 - April 5, 2010
1 more out!
Scott Coleman - April 5, 2010
Skied to Prado.
carpengui - April 5, 2010
So far our bullpen
has been ridiculous. 2.2 IP, 4 SO, 0 H, 0 BB
Jacob Peterson - April 5, 2010
...and 1 H since the 3rd if I heard correctly
El Soro - April 5, 2010
Correct…
mvandonsel - April 5, 2010
First time in a long time (since Smoltz) I felt good about a guy coming in the 9th to close the door.
romone_braves91 - April 5, 2010
Great Job Braves!!!
CowboyCurtis - April 5, 2010
That slider is filthyyyy

I can’t wait for Wed.
HEYJUDE - April 5, 2010

bravos1984 - April 5, 2010
Yes,

Jacob Peterson - April 5, 2010
162?
Don Draper - April 5, 2010
Ok, the PREDICTED wins then.
90 seems a bit low after what we saw today. :-)
bravos1984 - April 5, 2010
Buck Bellue
Had them down for 98. I thought it sounded optimistic as hell.
Bronn - April 5, 2010
After today, I’d say 100+…..but I guess 16 runs will inflate expectations a little bit.
bravos1984 - April 5, 2010
Best Opening Day since '97...amIright?
El Soro - April 5, 2010
Today has that game beat, imho!
HEYJUDE - April 5, 2010

Jareth Cutestory - April 5, 2010

HEYJUDE - April 5, 2010
Why the hell is there an off day tomorrow?
Scott Coleman - April 5, 2010
because MLB scheduling is stupid.
Jareth Cutestory - April 5, 2010
oh god
so we have tomorrow off but then have a game at 7pm thursday night and then fly 6 hours to San Francisco.
/facepalm
Scott Coleman - April 5, 2010
Bud hates fun
Don Draper - April 5, 2010
Supposed to be in case your home opener gets rained out, you can play it the next day.

Will the Cubbies even show up Wed.?!?
HEYJUDE - April 5, 2010
Was that Brian Jordan
Who speculated that wins in April MIGHT JUST BE as important as wins in September?
Bronn - April 5, 2010
Technically,
it isn’t, at least this year. Because of the late start to the season there are fewer games in APR
Jacob Peterson - April 5, 2010
Well
If you’re talking about W-L record. But a win is a win is a win. It doesn’t change.
Bronn - April 5, 2010
Brian Jordan is atrocious. He needs to go STAT.
UMDBHIK - April 5, 2010
Does anyone believe Tiger when he says
He’s never done a drug in his life. I call BS.
Scott Coleman - April 5, 2010
Technically….alcohol is a drug.
bravos1984 - April 5, 2010
awesome win
Lowe is really lucky we scored runz for him.
Erihury - April 5, 2010
Really quick...
I bet Gondeee starts the game recap with either “Wow, Whew, or Man what a day.” U’ll see… lol
nick9314 - April 5, 2010
16 runs, 12 hits, 8 walks (and 8 K’s), one hit batter. Collectively hit for the cycle with 2 HRs.
Cubs got ZERO hits off of the bullpen. Overall, 7K’s, 3 walks.
carpengui - April 5, 2010
We’re good.
Smoltz's Beard - April 5, 2010
I'm disappointed
We only got 8 runs after Zambrano left.
Bronn - April 5, 2010
Yeah…this team blows. lol
bravos1984 - April 5, 2010
“Most runs scored by Atlanta Braves on opening day” (FSS)

Smoltz's Beard - April 5, 2010

carpengui - April 5, 2010
next 48 hours actually...
Scott Coleman - April 5, 2010
Holy (base)balls
I opened TC and si.com’s Braves homepage when i got home from school. I got the biggest surprise of my life. WOW!!! What happened?!?!?!?!?! All I know for sure about this game is that Jason Heyward pulled a Jordan Schafer.
hawves - April 5, 2010
well, there’s around 2100+ posts to review,,, a little much to summarize. ;]
carpengui - April 5, 2010
I went to braves.com
to find out about the shot. The link was titled “Heyward adds to legend in first at-bat” The first thing that I thought of was the Schafer bomb, because that’s what the headline was a year ago, Opening Day.
hawves - April 5, 2010
Heyward shot coming up on Sportscenter in just a minute.
Bronn - April 5, 2010
ill never get tired of watching that highlight.

hawves - April 5, 2010
overall i consider that game a success.
David G. Little - April 5, 2010
Missed most of the game. (Damn job)
