More on Brian Jordan's Comments About Chipper Jones

Talking Chop reported last week on some comments that Brian Jordan made about Chipper Jones during an appearance on an XM radio show in which Jordan blasted Chipper for a lack of physical preparation. In today's AJC blog column, a secondary reporter passes along a few conflicting notes about Brian Jordan's apparent apology to Chipper:

Brian Jordan apologized to former teammate Chipper Jones after recent comments he made on a nationally syndicated radio show.

...and then the next sentence contradicts the previous sentence...

Jordan said Friday that didn’t necessarily apologize for his comments – that Jones should train harder and stretch more to avoid injuries – but rather that the Braves third baseman had to deal with the fallout.

So he apologized, but he didn't? Then in the actual Jordan comments he seems to say that he was sorry Chipper had to deal with the comments, and not that they were made in the first place:

"I told him I was sorry he had to deal with all that in New York."

That's almost as confusing as Brian Jordan's on-air analysis. I'm not sure who this Chris Vivlamore is who seems to be filling in for DOB, helping out Carroll Rogers, but I think we need some editorial clarification there AJC. Again, though, maybe that's as clear as he could be with a Brian Jordan comment.

Nice to see the bleeding stop...

I hope the site gets back to normal soon

Did you see the “Thunderdome” post? I think that’s a must for everyone…even if you don’t like the Braves.

I did, and it really was the exact type of thing Mets fans needed last season.

The streak you guys just suffered through was shockingly similar to the last season for Mets fans (without the kick in the nuts of trading for Jeff Francoeur)

Good ‘ol Frenchy. At least he’s having a little more success in NY than he was in Atlanta. I don’t like the guy too much (especially after his jokes about Hanson going to the Yankees in a few years because the Braves wouldn’t pay him), but it’s good to see former players going on to good things, even if it’s with the Mets.

He's a funny case.

I genuinely like the guy, he seems like a good dude. As far as his basebal skill goes, he’s still a pretty shitty player (although somewhat less shitty than he used to be), and he’s currently keeping a better player stuck in AAA. I’ll always hope he’s having some degree of success wherever hes at, but I really hope whomever replaces Omar is smart enough to sell somewhat high and replace him with Fernando Martinez.

I understand 100% of what you’re saying. If Frenchy was still in Atlanta and was keeping Heyward down in AAA, i’d be really pissed and wanna trade him immediately.

You should give Omar a call and tell him to hit up the Royals. They’d probably give you guys Greinke and Soria for Francoeur and Acosta.

If only Omar was a better GM than Moore

He’s made 2 deals with him…Bannister (useful) for Burgos (South American jail) and Keppinger (useful) for Gotay (didn’t we try giving him to the Braves?). Dayton Moore is not on the approved list of GM’s for Omar to trade with.

haha

yeah, Gotay was with the Braves for a little while.

And that’s a shame, because I honestly think Moore would field a team of all ex-Braves players if he had the chance.

Omar tries the same thing,

but I’d take a team of ex-Braves over a team of ex-Expo/Nationals any day.

Hey Mr Jordan

How about talking to Chipper first? Then you would be more respected.

You should've heard BJ on the pre-game show

He was back pedaling like crazy, and in the end, he claims that it was all blown out of proportion because it was in New York, and that they’re still BFFs.

yeah, it was really weak

WHY THE F*CK??

Is everyone sooooo upset about Brians comments??

Chipper has always admited to not working out in thew off-season. His redneck-ass always goes to his acreage in Texas and shoots shit with guns. Thats what he does and says so.

With that said, how many of you nerds have been a MLB player… much less, on the same team with Larry Jones??

Brian Jordan has. And he knows Chipper is a dick.

Its pretty simple. Everyone chillout on Brian Jordan. He’s just being honest. And I respect that.

Just to Follow up...

I want to say this may be the best blog in baseball.
Gondee, Royhobbs… nothing but respect for you boys thoughts and wit. Really is a tremendous blog and everyone does a terific job.

But really guys…. defending someone who has always said he doesnt work out in the off season… that doesnt make you angry? Chippers prideful boasting that he “eats Snicker Bars” till spring. “I worked out that one offseason then got hurt the first month”.

As the “mayor of ponce” (ok, laugh it up) I have many insiders in the organization, and I have never heard a good word about the dude. Honestly, dudes a dick. Chipper cares about Chipper. Thats it.

Wow

I don’t like it when FORMER players decide to call out (future HOF) current players in the media. It’s just not classy.

You know what doesn't garner respect?

When someone with an obvious agenda opens his mouth and spews unfounded rubbish. If we were to clean up your filth, your comments could be whittled down to this: "I don’t like Chipper, I never have. Yet, to show I am a fan, I will defend a former player (Jordan) and claim I know “many” in the organization (to validate my argument/make myself feel important), then take a shot at the “nerds” who peruse this board in order to give their opinions less merit."

Brian Jordan says he and Chipper are good friends, and will always be friends. Why would he be friends with a dick? You inject personal opinion in between manufactured facts in order to make your position stronger. It’s kind of embarrassing.

No one here is “defending someone who has always said he doesn’t work out in the off-season”, we’re defending that first ballot hall-of-famer who cared enough about his team to take home town discount after home town discount to stay a Brave for his entire career. We’re defending Chipper, one of the best switch hitters of all time behind Mickey Mantle and probably in front of Eddie Murray. The guy who has represented this organization for a decade and a half and who we are LUCKY enough to have the pleasure to call a lifetime Brave. So don’t come on this blog that you appreciate so much and try to tell ME that Chipper only cares about Chipper. I think he’s flushed about 20 million down the toilet just caring about himself (if we’re making baseless claims).

Really now.
I have never heard a good word about the dude. Honestly, dudes a dick. Chipper cares about Chipper. Thats it.

Perhaps you don’t know dick.

This post might enlighten some.

I think we're all missing out on an opportunity here..

he has MANY insiders inside the organization. Maybe we can come up with a list of things we want to address, and he can pass them onto his insiders. We can start to be the puppet masters. I think this can work.

You'd think that such a "true" Braves fan

with so many “insiders” in the organization would be able to correctly spell Caray.

Seriously, did Chipper steal your lollipop or something?

Not from Texas but you need to be careful about stereotyping Texans.

You ask how many of us has been an MLB player, yet you say Chipper is a dick. You know this how?

You are an idiot.

I think the article means

Brian is not apologizing for the substance of his comments, but he is sorry Chipper had to deal with the media reaction while on a losing streak in NY. It’s not a contradiction, but it’s certainly a hollow apology. This actually makes what Brian said worse. At first, I didn’t give it much thought and figured he was just running his mouth without thinking to fill airtime. But for him to stand by his baseless accusations after he had a chance to retract and truly apologize is really weak.

I think maybe he’s apologizing for HOW and WHERE he made the comments, but not the content of them. There may be some truth to parts of what he is trying to say from an age perspective, but he really didn’t handle it in the most professional manner….

I thought this in the article said a lot too...
Jones told the AJC this week that he would reserve judgment on Jordan’s comments.
"I would have hated for something to be taken out of context and cause a big to-do over it," Jones said.
"I’m sure that we’ll talk at some point."

That leads me to believe they haven’t talked yet and Chipper is not going to bash Brian publicly in the media.

For the umpteenth time, I wish that Brian Jordan would just shut his mouth.

It's funny how every offseason

Chipper’s talking about something he tried doing this offseason in order to stay healthier, and we still get stories talking about how he doesn’t put in the work in.

In 2006 he said he made drastic changes to his diet and started working on his sides and abs more in the offseason.

In 2007, he hired a personal trainer and worked out three hours a day.

In 2008, he decided that having a personal trainer hadn’t helped and had, in fact, tired him out a lot, so he decided to rest his feet and his obliques more and spend time with his kids.

This past offseason, I remember reading how he was hitting the weights hard in the offseason because he felt worn-down at the end of last year.

I feel like this is a guy who KNOWS VERY WELL he needed to change his offseason routine, and has tried everything reasonable in order to stay healthier. He hasn’t found the right formula of rest and exercise, and the fact that he’s getting older isn’t making it any easier on his muscles. I don’t think Brian Jordan is at all fair to him, unless the various reports I’ve read periodically about Chipper’s offseason routines are complete fabrications.

What Brian Jordan did was wrong

No doubt about it. I don’t think anyone is justifying his first amendment rights. However, what Jordan has done has opened a can of worms. How much does Chipper’s off season regiment effect his play on the field? If we were to take out Brian Jordan’s words and just asked “does Chipper train well enough in the off season to prepare for 162 games?”

Chipper is a sure-fire first ballot HOFer and when that day comes I’ll shed a few tears, surely. However, one thing that I’ve learned over the last few years as a Braves fan is that living on the laurels of the past have grown thin. I want to see a winning team, which means fielding a team that has its best lineup out there. Now, does Chipper’s off season workout program help or hurt those chances of winning?

Maybe Jordan can pull some strings...

Hook Chipper up with a job playing safety for an NFL team in the offseason? That would be epic!

Chipper Jones @ age 37: 143 games, .264 .388 .430 .818
Brian Jordan @ age 37: 61 games, .222 .275 .363 .638

Brian can just STFU and GTFO now.
