Gwinnett 3, Norfolk 6
Freddie Freeman hit his first AAA home run and man it was a bomb shot. He also added a single, raising his average up to the Mendoza line. The team's next best offensive prospect, Brandon Hicks, who's also struggled early, went 0-4 and has just 1 hit in his last 27 at bats. Ryne Reynoso gave up most of his runs on one pitch, a hanging changeup, to Jeff Salazar, who hit it for a 3 run homer.
Mississippi 5, Mobile 4
Randy Gress, who drove in the game winning run for the M-Braves Monday night with a pinch hit single, hit a pinch hit homer in tonight's game to tie the score in the bottom of the 9th. Eric Duncan finished off the win with an RBI double. Scott Diamond didn't fare well in his starts, mostly because of all the walks, but his bullpen did, as Brett Butts, Brandon Beachy, and Steve Marek, who got the win, combined for 4.2 scoreless innings. Cody Johnson didn't strike out, got a hit that wasn't a homer, and walked in this game. It would have been a perfect Anti-CoJo night if not for the error he made.
Myrtle Beach 4, Winston-Salem 11
Yeliar Castro's first start of the year did not go well, as the Warthogs got all over him for 8 runs in just 2 innings. Conversely, Juan Abreu, who's been getting kicked in his appearances, surrendered just 1 run in 4 innings of relief. Gerry Rodriguez extended his hitting streak to 7 games.
Rome 3, Kannapolis 1
Kyle Rose continues his torrid hitting, collecting a few more hits, but he was also caught stealing 2 more times, bringing his season total to 7. In the first inning the opposing catcher was credited with catching Rose stealing, though an error by the shortstop allowed him to remain on base. Several batters later he would steal home as part of a double steal with Cory Harrilchack. Arodys Vizcaino put up his best start of his short Braves' career, intimidating the intimidators for 7 innings.

Good to see next years starting 1B looking better
ATLandUNC - April 22, 2010
Not to down Freeman but
I seriously doubt he’ll be our opening day 1B unless he absolutely tears it up this season and has a really good spring. If I were the Braves I would be trying to pry Luke Scott from the O’s now heck better yet I really like Hinske i’d sign him to an extension. But I really hope Freeman will be ready because i’m tired of the revolving door at 1B and in LF as well.

I still hold hope
That the Braves can have two 21 year old studs in the opening day lineup next year. Sure would make things look a little better.
ATLandUNC - April 22, 2010
Yeah, I write off struggling 20 year olds in AAA too..
bwellnjonesco - April 22, 2010
i mean
i wouldnt write him off however Hinske would be a great back up plan.

When is Gress getting the call up to The Show?
get swoll yunel - April 22, 2010
can’t be long now
VivaLosBravos - April 22, 2010

Good Stuff
I was telling CB last night that it would be cool to see Freddie hit a dinger and lo and behold his next at bat he crushed a ball over the pavillion in right field. I thought Ryne pitched a solid game besides the HR hitting 95 once on the gun. Mitch Jones was hitting the ball hard last night and had a nice assist to the plate as well. Lyman had a pretty rough outing and Martinez had walkitis. I also have to thank CB for saving my life with a backhanded grab on a burner ricochet headed straight for my head. Touche CB, touche!

My short, error-filled career as a first baseman finally paid off.
cbwilk - April 22, 2010
I’m assuming you were in his lap?
bwellnjonesco - April 22, 2010
You know what they say when you assume something right?

Nice to see Vizcaino come back with a strong start.

Those helmets have to be the most dumbest ass looking thing ive ever seen.

most dumbest ass?

Glad to see Cory Harrilchak turning it around too.

I hope Freeman continues to adjust to AAA. It’s clearly a challenge to him, but hopefully he can continue to progress throughout the year. We don’t need him to dominate, only to hold his own (given his age and all).
Great start from Vizcaino. Let’s hope he and Teheran can keep trying to match each other.

Who reaches AA first?...
Milligan or Gerry Rodriguez? I’m thinking GR right now.
Mr. Sanchez - April 22, 2010
I thought Freeman would hold Gerry in A+ until he advanced to AAA, so it shouldn’t be long IMO.
bwellnjonesco - April 22, 2010
He's playing a corner OF spot now...
so I don’t think Freeman matters too much in this, except for the big club doing long term projections and wanting him in the mix for LF with Milligan and CoJo among others, instead of with Freeman and others at 1st.
Mr. Sanchez - April 22, 2010
wuups, I forgot about that, thanks for the reminder.
bwellnjonesco - April 22, 2010
The "Wart Hogs" are the Dash now.
Lame, I know.
parish - April 22, 2010
Oh wow. They are, and have been since the start of last year. I even saw them last year in their ridiculous new unis. Man, good catch.
