Hopefully I can shed some light on the dark day that was.
Durham 4, Gwinnett 2
Gwinnett couldn't deliver a win from what appears to be a pretty shaky offense in the early going, but they had some solid individual performances especially from the bullpen. Mike Dunn chipped in 1.1IP and recorded all 4 outs via the K. Cory Gearrin also has a scoreless 1.1 innings before Craig Kimbrel finished the game out. Scott Proctor got lit up for the second straight appearance allowing 4 runs in less than an inning of work. At this point I would expect Kimbrel (or even Gearrin) to get the call before Proctor.
Tennessee 4, Mississippi 5
Donell Linares is another personal favorite of mine even with my brain knowing he will probably never be a major leaguer. I just like his bat and think that he could tap into some power this year and be a solid infielder for someone if just for a couple of seasons. I am pleased with Richard Sullivan's first start of the season even if it wasn't spectacular. The guy generates groundballs with the best of them and if you pair that with a good defense you have yourself something nice.
Myrtle Beach - Off Day
Rome 5, Greenville 4
Kyle Rose reads this blog, understands what we want and delivers. Just a day after claiming he needs to add some doubles power he manifests it gloriously! Christian Bethancourt continues to make baseballs pay for their impunity and RSF is going to drive in 100 Runs this year just because Harrilchak and Rose will be on base ALL THE FREAKING TIME in front of him. Still undefeated.

Aside from their obvious talent, the Rome team’s chemistry is off the charts. This is going to be a fun summer for those guys.
cbwilk - April 13, 2010
And I have a hard time thinking Rose is switch hitting ....
I’m sure he is, but damn if he isn’t hitting pretty well right out the gates. And I’d assume a lot of those at bats are coming from the new side of the plate since he was a righty last year.

If Rome doesn't win a championship this year
I’ll be stunned. That team is stacked! As long as the entire team doesn’t move up to MB during the summer, they would be incredibly tough to beat.
Scott Coleman - April 13, 2010 via mobile
The guys that get moved up will be replaced by some nice talent from Danville..
bwellnjonesco - April 13, 2010
Or extended spring with...
Salcedo, Devall, Hoover, etc.
Mr. Sanchez - April 13, 2010
Hoover is in MB already
But they have several guys they could slide in if Teheran and Vizcaino were promoted. Stovall, Devall, Perez. Heck they have several SP options on the team now.
Jay212033 - April 13, 2010
Thanks, I tend to mix up Stovall and Hoover
Mr. Sanchez - April 13, 2010
yup...
They already sent Ryan Barba up to MB yesterday……
rbravesfan - April 13, 2010
My question would have to be....
why does Bethancourt bat 6th?
BravesRaleigh - April 13, 2010
Cause he can barely buy cigarettes…
bwellnjonesco - April 13, 2010
lol
Smoltz's Beard - April 13, 2010

Doghnut - April 13, 2010

yondaime4 - April 13, 2010 via mobile
I just finally get to say......
ROME ROCKS !!!! Woooooo-hoooooo!!! (and thanks to KR for not breaking my streak in the MiLB streak game….)
rbravesfan - April 13, 2010
Why can’t it still be the Macon Braves…WHYYYY?!?!?!?!
bwellnjonesco - April 13, 2010

Bravely going forward - April 13, 2010
How freaking killer would it be if Rose brings his skillset successfully up to the majors. As it is probably obvious to most of us who watch/listen to most of the games, a sparkplug type leadoff hitting outfielder is almost more of a need to the team than a sweet swinging middle of the order bat (Heyward will be filling that role soon).
In a few years….
1. Rose LF
2. Prado 2B
3. Heyward RF
4. Salcedo 3B
5. McCann C
6. Freeman 1B
7. Escobar SS
8. Schafer CF
Know its a super long shot but how sweet would that team be if the players meet their projections.
bbxxj - April 13, 2010
That team would be perfect especially if.....
Salcedo turns out to be a Hanley Ramirez clone, minus the attitude of course. But the bigger issue would be how would your rotation shape up? Here’s mine:
Hanson – RHP
Jurrjens – RHP
Teheran – RHP
Minor – LHP
Vizcaino/Delgado/Lopez/Spruill/etc….
Jay212033 - April 13, 2010
I would think...
Milligan or Cody Johnson would be challenging for LF, with Rose or Schafer in CF.
Mr. Sanchez - April 13, 2010
I like Milligan and Johnson but
I’m tired of seeing guys strikeout so much and both Milligan and Johnson have poor plate discipline.
Jay212033 - April 13, 2010
but aren’t you equally tired of the braves not having a 30 hr hitter? Ks come with the territory there and one of those two guys provides us with. Best shot at having. Power hitter granted not in the ideal sense
yondaime4 - April 13, 2010 via mobile
They also have time to work on that...
and get their plate discipline and K (or BB) rates to an acceptable level.
Mr. Sanchez - April 13, 2010
word..
Mighty Healthy - April 13, 2010
Good old Rome
They always make you feel better after an Atlanta loss. I’m not surprised that the pitching has been awesome, but the Rome hitters have thus far been doing better than expected. It’s good to see Rose and Harrilchak hitting, expecially.
Jacob Peterson - April 13, 2010
I’m most happy with Bethancourt so far (and Teheran’s debut). I think they will both fly up the prospect charts this season.

I saw Brent Lillibridge and Tyler Flower playing last night. Both are off to hot starts with Lilli hitting around .500 and T-Flow hitting around .400. The biggest thing I love about T-Flow is just how damn relaxed he is; the guy really doesn’t have a care in the world and he takes that with him to the field. (Just to clarify, I’ve never lamented trading them and I don’t now, I only bring them up because I know folks, like me, still like them around here.)
cbwilk - April 13, 2010
T-Flow would have been sick on our squad..
He would be our everyday 1st Basemen right now and #3 catcher. Allowing us to finally get to pinch-hit with David Ross!
That would have been dope… sigh :(
Mighty Healthy - April 13, 2010
I don’t think he’d be in the Majors for the Braves right now. The White Sox made the right move putting him back in AAA to start the year. He needs at least half a season before he’s ready to try being full time in the show.
Plus, he just looks good in catcher’s gear.
cbwilk - April 13, 2010
Yes, yes he does.
