I think if Schafer comes up, McLouth is most likely to leave. His contract is backloaded, and we’re most likely going to want to get some value out of him in a trade before we have to start paying him bigger bucks. Of course, if McLouth starts really hitting well, we could hold onto him.
$6.5 mil next year is OK if he is producing. But it’s expensive on the Braves budget if he’s not. He has trade value with next year under contract and an option for 2012. Just depends on whether Schafer can make it back. Hitting .063 after a week of ST is not that big a deal, like a pitcher with an ERA around 25. But after hearing about his vision correction I was hoping for better than .063.
It’s like I know he’ll turn it around eventually, but I’m not liking how awful he’s looked at the plate so far. He’s been impatient, and he’s been striking out against some AAA scrubs.
In looking at his big league stats… I don’t see where McLouth has the capability to improve and blossom into a solid bat. If we had someone else who could play CF and be a solid hitter, I would love it.
And it looks like Schafer is the only other real option in the organization right now.
Good news
I hope Schafer tears up AAA this year and we bring him up midseason

McLouth – Schafer – Heyward. (Diaz at 4th OF)
That OF can cover a lot of ground out there.
Cannot wait.

Starting to wonder/worry
about McLouth, and starting to feel better about Cabrera. Maybe Diaz, Schafer, Heyward, Cabrera will get a chance.
