Braves Prospect Delgado Out for Season

I'll admit that headline is a bit mean, as the Delgado in question is Dimasther Delgado, not Randall Delgado. According to Braves broadcaster Jim Power, "[Dimasther] suffered serious injuries in an auto accident in the offseason including a broken femur. Should make full recovery by next year."

Like the higher ranked Randall Delgado, Dimasther is a young Panamanian pitcher who is ranked 12th in the Braves system by Baseball America, and 14th by Talking Chop.

The Braves pitching depth at the lower minor league levels is so deep that it will easily tolerate a loss like this. Still, I hope that Delgado is able to return to pro baseball with the same success he's had the last few years.

I didn't realize there was an h in his name

and agree on the depth in the minors to cover it this year, and hope he makes a strong recovery next year. He’s still young, so next year in Rome or Myrtle isn’t out of line with age/level.

But now we have potential starters below AA as Minor, R Delgado, Spruill, Devall, Oberholtzer, Rohrbough, Hale, Rasmus, Stovall, Teheran, Vizcaino, Hoover, Thompson, Lopez, Rodgers, Evarts, Crim, Masters, Avilan, Brewer, Northcraft, Perez (and I think the Dominican lefty gets often overlooked when discussing the system’s potential pitching stars). While it’s not a good thing to see Dimaster sidelined, the starting staffs in Rome, Myrtle, etc shouldn’t be hurting for options.

Evarts isn’t with us anymore :(

where'd he go?

He was released.

cross him off then

Major League…?

Yes...

and on the question at the start: “Dimasther” or Dimaster? I never knew there was an h there, and had always seen it as Dimaster.

I’d always seen Dimaster too. I don’t know, it was Christian Betancourt until I saw from him personally that it was Bethancourt. Who knows, these guys all make their names and birthdays up anyway…

Ah wow, that’s terrible news. Hope he does indeed make a full recovery.

A broken femur?

Shit. That sounds like that would really hurt.

Yeah that sounds pretty nasty

Did it just happen recently or in the offseason meaning like December and were just finding out now? Hopefully he has a full recovery and gets back on track.

IIRC

it happened in early February, but by the time word got to the U.S. writers it was late February. hopefully he’ll be back in time for Spring Training in 2011.

Maybe that will help.

Yeah

I guess I just completely missed that. This was the first I heard about it.

Yea

I bet it did man,it’s one of the bones you don’t want to break,I mean you don’t want to break any bones but that bone what he broke is one of the ones to be avoided.Glad to see he’ll make a full recovery,I’ve known some people not ,baseball players though who have metal rods in their legs because they have broken that bone.

It's the most painful one to break, I've heard.

Yeah man, it’s no fun at all. I broke my femur Easter weekend last year in a car accident too, and definitely the “10” on my pain scale was having to get pulled out of the with that bad boy broken. I’m really glad to be past that now, but on the plus side though, I got to watch Braves baseball for 3 months with my leg in a brace!

But seriously I hope he recovers well. His recovery should go well if he has good doctors taking care of him. Based on what my doctors told me when I broke mine, since he is young and especially because he’s a professional athlete, his recovery time is probably anywhere from 8-12 months. I’m no professional athlete, and I was pretty much back to normal in 8-9 months. Not quite running speed yet, but he’ll be all set I’m sure.

ouch

hope he recovers fully

Soft tossing lefty yet to reach AA

In terms of value, not even something you blink about losing.

Not to be callus, because I do like Delgado a lot (not that I know him, just what I’ve read about/seen) and I hope he does come back and pitch well.

But if he doesn’t the Braves will be just fine.

That really did sound callus.

I love that line...

“not to be rude/disrespectful, [insert rude or disrespectful comment]”

No, we're in the South.

You say “bless his heart,” which allows you to say whatever you want about anyone.

“He’s injured, but bless his heart, we won’t miss him.”

jon reep ftw
Cant wait for him to reach the majors

I’ve already got his nickname picked out Dimasther-bater.
