Braves Don't Want Edgar Osuna Back

The Kansas City Royals sent lefty Edgar Osuna to the minor leagues today after offering him back to the Atlanta Braves. The Braves however, "declined to the opportunity to accept him back" according to Bob Dutton of Royals Report. Osuna was taken by the Royals in this winter's Rule-5 draft after Atlanta chose to protect guys like Jonny Venters, Jeff Lyman, and Jose Ortegano over Osuna.

He had a terrible spring training, giving up 12 earned runs on 13 hits and 4 walks in 10 innings, so it's no wonder the Braves didn't want him back as just about all of the other young Braves pitchers did better than him this spring. It is interesting why the Braves didn't try and work out a trade, assuming Osuna has any value at this point. Still, giving up on a guy you scouted and developed is a bit weird, but I guess the Braves have their reasons.

Guess we really do have a surplus of arms....

Gunderson, Osuna, Acosta, a lot of teams would probably like those guys in their AA and AAA levels.

I guess there really are more talented arms than roster spots. Man, this could be an awesome year to be a Braves fan.

You said it.

Osuna had at least a small bit of MLB potential. Nothing more than a LOOGY, but if the Braves think they have better options in AA than a guy who has MLB potential, well, we’re sitting pretty pretty.

It almost has to be the case...

as you say, Osuna has potential and is a solid young arm. Maybe a LOOGY, maybe a low end starter, but he has definite potential. Gunderson has LOOGY potential, and Acosta has been up and down the last few years with clearly some quality stuff that has struggled with consistency. I would think 90% of clubs out there would make room for these 3 at the AA and AAA level, but not the Braves. I had been thinking things were tight for space with the arms coming up but this is a bit much. We can’[t find room for any of them? And are so stacked we don’t even want to work a trade for even low level filler with some potential?

The Braves didn’t think he was worth the 25k? Ouch.

His numbers rival mine in MLB10. I thought I was bad at a video game. Those numbers are brutal.

Try rookie mode… I’ve been winning games 15 to 1 and Chipper’s batting a cool .600 lol

What the heck, he was pitching that badly? I read a story on him from KS saying how impressive he was this spring.
