In case you missed the news this morning, it was officially announced that Jason Heyward will be the opening day right fielder for the Atlanta Braves. Yep, he's won a job at just 20 years of age. He will wear uniform number 22.

If you're in a Braves state of mind this weekend, here is a great way to get your baseball fix right here in Atlanta:
With Opening Day just around the corner, the Atlanta Braves will host a FREE Open House this Saturday, March 27th from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. showcasing the very best seats in the house and incredible ticket values, including a full season ticket packages for as low as $249 ($3 a game). Fans will receive a free premium bonus gift with their purchase: Batting Practice Experience passes, Diamond Dollars good for food or merchandise at the ballpark, or an autograph item form a current Braves player.
Fans can also (from 11am-to-1pm) run the bases, throw in the bullpen, shag fly balls in the outfield, play the interactive hitting and pitching games in Scout's Alley, meet former Braves pitcher Zane Smith, visit the Braves museum and Hall of Fame and tour Turner Field, all for free.
If you haven't seen Zane Smith this off-season, then you're just not trying, because it seems like he was at just about every caravan stop. It's worth stopping by for the free museum and Hall of Fame admission. That ticket special, by the way, is how I got started blogging back in 2006. It's a great deal, as you can get two tickets to every home game for $500. That gets you in the game, and from there you can usually sit wherever, or stand. Remember, Turner Field has some of the best standing room areas right behind home plate on the concourse. That might be the best standing room area in all of baseball. Anyway, just passing along the promos. If you're as excited as I am about number-22, then descend on the Ted.

BOOM!
I am coming from Illinois for Opening Day, and this increases my high excitement exponentially
BraveSaluki - March 26, 2010
Blow up the bridge behind you, so that no one from Chicago comes and mucks up opening day for us.
bravos1984 - March 26, 2010

I just wish I can pay an airplane to travel to the opening day!! :( I want to go
Kobe:The Legend - March 26, 2010

Open House
I am VERY excited about Open House tomorrow. I’ve been waiting since last year since it was canceled because of the rain. Plus this year you get to throw in the bullpen too. How cool!!
McGriff the Crime Dog - March 26, 2010
I haven’t been to a game since 2003. :(
TonyAlmeyda - March 26, 2010

HalleyGator - March 26, 2010
#22 is back!
Dont know why it typed 1.
HalleyGator - March 26, 2010
Sweet. My dad was always #22. I’ve always liked the number, as well. Wasn’t Kelly #22?
Chief Noc-A-Homa - March 26, 2010
Kelly was #2.
Marcus Giles was #22. He also wore #20 for a short period.
BullManUGA - March 26, 2010
He also wore #24 for a while, around 01-02; some reference to his brother Brian (at the time). I just ripped the letters off the jersey this weekend.

Very nice job of photoshopping!
carpengui - March 26, 2010
22 is awesome but for some reason makes me miss the 71…

The White House
Press Secretary Robert Gibbs even tweeted about JayHey!
“@PressSec Can hardly wait to see @jasonheyward play this year for the @braves ”http://bit.ly/bxVnLT" target="_blank">http://bit.ly/bxVnLT"
THATS CRAZY!
MayorofPonce - March 26, 2010
That IS crazy. I wonder if he’s a Braves fan.
gondeee - March 26, 2010
He's probably just a Jason Heyward fan
After all, everybody in the world will be once April 5th rolls around.

Not sure
of Gibbs background, but maybe hes from the south and grew up a Braves fan? … Or a Braves fan because of the Super Station.
Either way, pretty cool. He linked a braves article, then in another tweet told people to follow @braves. Must be a slow day in D.C.!
MayorofPonce - March 26, 2010
and btw-
you turkeys can follow me @mayorofponce
MayorofPonce - March 26, 2010
Gibbs is a native of Auburn, Alabama. He obtained his degree in political science from North Carolina State University. So I’d imagine he has some deep personal ties to Southern culture and sports.
TheLetter2 - March 26, 2010
Born and raised in Auburn, Alabama, maybe a lifer. ;)
bravos1984 - March 26, 2010
Perhaps he’s not as a big of a douche as I thought after all.
musicman - March 26, 2010
he's pretty dope to me
Mighty Healthy - March 27, 2010

I think Brian Jordan is also supposed to be there. We were going to go, but now we have baseball practice and don’t think we can get down and back in time. :-( Boo.
rbravesfan - March 26, 2010
Lizziebeth – will you be there to capture some Javy for those of us who live too far away to make the trip? You have no idea how grateful
some of usI would be. :-)NCChopper - March 27, 2010
Awww, I’m sorry, I couldn’t make it to the one at Gwinnett. Ugh, you know how life happens when you’re making plans…
(for everybody) Sorry for the delay in replying to comments, too (trying to keep at a minimum so nobody has to backtrack)…have been with the g-rents for the past few days. Occasionally got glimmers of a wifi signal at their house, but none lasted long enough to load a single page.
Had a good time at the Open House, mostly seeing some usher/worker friends for the first time this year, but nothing huge to report. May post the few random shots I took later tonight when I get them up on PB.
Lizziebeth - March 30, 2010
22?!? WTFF. I hate that number
17 Would be sexy as fuck on him.
nick9314 - March 26, 2010
Glenn Hubbard would disagree.
BullManUGA - March 26, 2010
If you’re suggesting 17……then just go 71. lol
Chief Noc-A-Homa - March 26, 2010
I heard this morning. It’s great news. I wish I could go to the open house at the Ted — sounds like a blast for sure.
TheLetter2 - March 26, 2010
J-Hey...
had very good plate discipline today.
he’s nearly the same size as Pujols and is only 20.
now is the time to get excited that he doesnt whiff turds like ryan howard.
RipHard - March 26, 2010
hahahahahahahahaha
hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Scott Coleman - March 26, 2010
haha!
If we could only get that pic on the jumbo at The Ted.
MayorofPonce - March 26, 2010
WTH?? He has a kid, so not a virgin.
FitzFan - March 26, 2010
I don’t think anyone was taking that picture literally. Obviously, he has a kid and he’s a filthy rich professional athlete; we all know he’s not a virgin.
Scott Coleman - March 27, 2010
too bad Deunte Heath wasn't filthy rich.. smh
Mighty Healthy - March 27, 2010
Um.
He was… He spent it on hookers.
McCann and McWill - March 27, 2010
haha.
Nice.
MayorofPonce - March 27, 2010
They gave Heyward 22
Because that’s how old he’ll be when he pulls down his first MVP.
Yakker - March 26, 2010
Nice!
secondbass - March 26, 2010
I'm stunned
Given how cheap, relatively speaking, the Braves are, I thought there was zero chance of this happening. Well, I’m gonna have to eat my words on this one. I bow before the superior knowledge of those who said this would happen. There may be some hope for this organization after all.
Zontar - March 27, 2010
Real excited
and new to the blog.
Go Braves!
animalcracker - March 27, 2010
Welcome. Hope you have a good sense of humor (& thick skin like your avatar)!
When I gave up drinking I got addicted to animal crackers. Prob not what you ever meant by your screenname, but wtf, you’ll soon notice that I tend to say random meaningless shit anyway.
Lizziebeth - March 30, 2010
It's exactly what I meant
They’re simple, sweet, and nutrient-empty….perfect
